Garden Photos - Part 14

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks for the links, Polly - very nice irises! Great shots Sherrie and Thom. Love those EE's, Thom. I only bought one from the Marketplace and it's not doing much yet. I love the dark taros.

Nice pics all. Hey Thom you and I should go into a EE contest to see who has the biggest ears... :-)

Polly thanks for the link....but you should of warned me there would be blues. I'm in heaven and feel the need to iris shop now! LOL

Loved the Josephine clematis---nice & full--other pics also great--can't believe you have dahlias already, Thom!

Hey Victor can you take a full view pic of your garden(s)? I have blossom envy.

I will try to get some tomorrow, Jen.

schicken-You're on! lol. The only rule of thumb that I follow, in regard to EE, is feed and water the heck out of them. I'm up to about 12 different kind now. I only have the one Xanthesoma, I have 3, maybe 4, Alocasia, and the rest are all Calocasias. Love them for their huge obnoxious leaves. The only thing that bumbs me out, unless I build a large heated green house, I'll never see a flower from one!

In regard to the dahlias. I potted them up as soon as I got them...it was either the end of March or the beginning of April. I have a large grooming table that was full of 1 gallon pots with all of the dahlias I bought in them. Plus, I put them out way early. End of April, beginning of May. I was able to obtain a few "bath sheets" from where I work. Bath sheets are basically thick sheets, and I would cover all of the pots with them when the weather dropped below 40 at night time...so, every night, I covered them, and every morning (if the temps were right) I would uncover them. I did that for a few weeks, until about the 3rd week in May. I can't wait to get a grow light area set up in the house!

This pic is of a smaller elephant ear, I believe 'Tea Cups' is the name...I thought it was a gonner...

all breath taking Victor

Victor, fantastic shot of New Dawn and Marmori. I'm not usually a fan of pink, but those or coral enough and look wonderful.

Thom. I agree, Is there a contest for EE's? Yours would definitely be tops.

schicken... Your hard work is paying off, it looks great.

Bill, your pond is lovely... to bad about those snakes! we only have the very occasional rattler sighting around here, and several small non agressive types, so the thought of those snakes just being right there all the the time would freak me out. You wouldn't get me near that water in a ship let alone a canoe! even just knowing that you have to deal with them makes me cringe. Is that the river on the other side of those trees?

Well, the sun was out again today! wahoo, two days in a row, it's so exciting. So, this is what's going on around the yard today (or yesterday as it is now).

Salix hakura nishiki (or some spelling like that). This is one of those shrubs that I just never loose interest with. If I see one in someones yard I have to go look at it, even though I already know what it looks like.

Pixie, you could thin some my way!

Are these Japanese iris? I've got bearded iris; don't know their names, but bright yellow, true blue, peachy orange; made my husband compliment my spring garden. Probably other DGs could identify, if I could get to my pictures with the DG browser. If you're interested, I'll keep trying.

and lastly, another noid iris. For some strange reason it's a slightly different color this year than it was last. Last year it was more purple instead of this smokey dark purple of this year.

Beautiful RC - glad to see that light shining through those shots! I agree with you on the salix blah blah - very interesting.

I can't imagine seeing your whole yard in one sitting, Victor. It would take days to see all there is to see and appreciate!

I don't think my EE's are gonna grow at all. I put the box store ones in months ago and there is no sign of life. :-(

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I managed to get outside with the camera for just a few minutes last evening.

Columbine 'Music Blue & White' bloomed, so I just had to get a photo of it. The bloom looks larger to me this year than it was last year.

And, just so my other Columbines didn't get jealous, I had to photograph them, too.

And, lastly, our McKana 'Giant' Columbine. We call it our 'pygmy'. It's only about two inches tall, but it has a bloom!!

We laugh about it being a 'giant'. Oh well. Maybe next season it will grow up!
