Tree rats (squirrels) will eat roses, especially if they've been warming up on other opportunities in the vicinity. They debud or deflower them and eat them from the base up. Sometimes they're gracious enough to leave you a sprinkling of chewed up petals from the fully opened blossoms.

Garden Photos - Part 14
Jo Ann - the good websites and nurseries will tell you. It's easy to look it up on the web.
What gorgeous blooms everyone has!!! I just love looking at this thread!!!
I am going to have some clematis photo's soon! My nelly moser has one flower open and The President is just beginning to bloom now!!! I am excited!!
Well, I don' t know. Maybe victor did invent the system, and now most of the nursery's/plant books are using it! I can see that!
My Prez is opened. I have to get a shot tomorrow. I was about to start a new thread and see Thom has started one:

Jo Ann, go to the Clematis forum. I think there's a sticky at the top that explains the different types of clematis for pruning.
Okay. I was wrong. There is no sticky there. Hmmm...
No sweat,I think I understand the principle.
The clems are better on a Vibernum than a Spirea
Depends on the habit of the spirea. They're great on Spirea thunbergii. Tough with things like barberry with a tight habit. Same for something like arborvitae. You would have to keep tucking it in. Just want to mention that I have Viburnum nudum 'Winterthur' in full bloom now. That makes a good two months with at least one type of viburnum in bloom for me.
Your the champ
Hee hee - thanks, Jo Ann. Viburnum or clematis champ?
I'm affraid I don't keep very good track of the timing of blooming things. It's an art like everything else.
Your ability to have vibs blooming for months is a testiment to your champnes.
Thanks - do I get a trophy? ^_^
an apots-trophy?
Too funny!
Why is the hibiscus stupid?
Thanks for the Gromore tip Deb I'm there today.
So it's not hardy? too bad. I have 2 hardy.
And 1 tropical, that I have been bringing in for the past 2 years, I cut it back a lot last fall, and it looks great today.
