Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today #45 visit with friends...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Learning to send smaller novels so they are not lost in cyberspace..

Judy hope you are feeling better today after your visit to the dentist..painful I'm sure..

Ruby, patiently waiting for photo's as well..sounds as though you've the entire day planned..and yes, I'm excited as much as the two young ones are..lol..Dimmer lives about 20 minutes from Glenview so will try to work a 1/2 hr. visit with her as well..

Marion, don't you think all the headaches are due to weather...from all the threads I've been on of late seems, everyone seems to be dealing with severe heat and storms...

Shar, forgot to say won't it be wonderful to have Ashley back for the summer, will she be working at the same place as last year..is she bringing that 'sweetie' with her for a visit?

Dawn you are so cute, just too much, calling ex and SD re job posibilities! always thinking right?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Liz, love the bowling ball..wow, will be gorgeous in your gardens..couldn't you have slapped on silicone all over the ball and rolled it in the glass? just a thought..lol...as for bowling ball, could buy the colored globs at $$$ store and silicone them randomly, that doesn't take mucht time..

I bould bring my mold and do stepping stones with stained glass?? but, too heavy for you to do one and bring home on the plane..sorry! Pot people idea would be fun..could do lots of projects at same time because half of them take no time, just the drying part..

I will bring the santa faces, patter and beard hair with me so that I won't have to ship it out in the fall...

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Good morning all. I do envy the cooler and wet weather. It is already starting out to be sultry humid day with no rain predicted. Betty how can they pave with all the rain--sems it wouldn't work to me. Then what do I know about paving? Nada!!

I can only imagine all the fun everyone is going to be having with your "girls vacation" do keep us updated on the activities.

Oh my yes, do shop Liz!! Okay maybe you can tell me where to find some bowling balls. Betty, I am not sure the globes would work for what I want to do--make a bumble bee and ladybug for my garden. Wouldn't they be to fragile?

Have a good day Ruby, post the pictures of the party so we all can share.

Marion, right now they are all 11 of them having coffee, standing waiting, guess deciding to go home or not or at least waiting for the boss to call to make the decision..they went homeyesterday..guess they were hoping it would clear, setting up their equipment etc. but not..think 1/2 of them are eating their lunches lol..would imagine they get 4hrs paid for as they've shown up but not the restof their day...with all the kaos it's causing for parking here don't know why it isn't done on weekends but understand, would be time and 1/2 for them right?ah they are all clearing their equpment so guess it's a home day for them...some are smilling others not..lol

The glass on the light fixture balls is quite strong and even stronger once the glass globs and grout is added, not sure what you are trying to achieve..any photo's..

Shar,

What part of Alaska is Ava in?

My sister lives in Homer--a most beautiful small town right at the tip of the Kenai Penninsula. The surrounding area and all these side trips from there are mind-boggling. Plus--there is the famous Homer Spit! Five miles long and full of shanrties and gift shops. At the very end is a wonderful restaurant called "Lands End"....
It also has a Marina

I have been there 3 times--last one in 2006.

Here's a picture of the Homer Spit from a hill-top.

I took the trip because our cousin and her husband FINALLY decided to come visit my sister. Of course--she paid for it all!
This is my sister on the left, with her HUGE Anatolian--Zoe, and my cousin, Nata and her husband Indrikis in my Sister's LR.

YES! There is a beach in Homer--called Bishop's Beach. Our cousins...
And yes! There is Summer there!

Gotta show you this one...

We took a plane ride (4-seater--) over all the Glaciers and mountains....
What an amazing view! You really get to see all the dtails looking down from the top.

This is where one of the largest glaciers meets it's end.....and becomes a lake--which flows out to the sea.

Gita what a beautiful shot of that scenery...God's country..but, we all have a bit of 'God's Country' in our own backyards...

Will be nice for Shar to visit..

Guess you are working hard and are on extended summer hours?
Home Depot flower/shrub dept is getting emptied rather quickly..not a lot to pick from...

It was 'purple'datura's you also sent me right..I planted them and am hoping I've put them in the correct location..all seedling are doing well...looking forward to their growing and flowers..

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

We went to the Exit Glacier--as it is the only one you can get to by road--and then another 1/2 mile walk and you are there--touching it! That's me!
This was a kind of melt-hole on the side of the Glacier. The ice is so blue because of the immense compression from the weight of the Glacier....

Oh my, what nice pictures. That is one place I hope to go while I am still able to travel. I love the one of the glacier--guess that comes from having been the wife of a geologist! Did have the chance to hike via lifts to a glacier's snout in Austria. What an experience.

Betty, I will have to scan the picture in from my magazine. It was featured in Backyard Living. Do you get that magazine in Canada. Has some awesome ideas every now and then. Being a ladybug "freak" and a granddaughter who likes "Bumglebees" I wanted to try my hand at making them. It says to use bowling balls. Willl get the mag out and see if I can scan picture in to show you. Globes just might work--not sure.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I do get that magazine, 'young Kyle' ordered the subscription for me..1 more edition to come...is it in the latest, the edition I just got is in my car..think I joined their site, tell me which edition and I'll see if I can pull it up...

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Let me check and will get back to you. My Mom gave me the subscription and I love it!!!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

It is the January/February 2008 issue. Titled "Bowling Ball Bugs"--imagine that! LOL
Let me know if you find it or come up with it on the website--if not will send copy. That is why I am not sure about the globe? What do you think?

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Gita, Seward is also on the Kenai Peninsula, on the Bering Sea, about 2 hours directly south of Anchorage. Not sure where Homer is from there, but I can check it out on MapQuest I think.

Victoria Harbour, ON

won't let me go back..I think the light fixtures would work, you don't have mega sports going on in your yard do you..seem to remember the article..yep, you could purchase different sizes of them..will take a photo of the one I'm working on with glass globs..nothing special, just random use of glass globs...if I remember correctly they were painted black right, well the glass come white but at any Walmart or Home Depot store you can purchase spray paint for glass, that would work..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Are you feeling better today Shar?

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Gita, Homer and Seward are about 170 miles apart, so same area.

Pacifica, CA

marion, thrift stores, garage sales,
and if you hit it up just right, at your bowling alley they do throw away balls you could ask them if they have any damaged balls they want to discard or a nominal fee i dont pay more than 5.00 ive gotten them even cheaper when i tell them its for a project good luck!

betty, for any other kind of glass probably yes, but this has to be placed so its all the same thickness so its all flush when you run your hand over. quite a project.

gita, nice pictures

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Sure am, Betty...Good looking doc upped my meds from 2.5 to 5 mgs. and made a big difference. Thanks.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

No I don't have any sports going on in my yard. Unless you call the squirrels running wild a sport. The bowling balls would be painted according to the bug . Will check out the globes next time I go into town. Thanks for your thoughts.
I really want to try this!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Do they make you ill/queazy and such? Nothing like a good looking doc. the new specialist I have must be under 30 (at least he looks it) and seems to have all the time in the world for you..think that's because he's just starting out, when he gets burn out am sure it will be 5 min. in and out you go..lol

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Thanks Sharran. Hadn't thought of going to the bowling alley. Duh!! Have been checking garage sales, misc. ads , telling my friends I want one (boy you should see their looks). I can't believe when I moved I throw my out--state of zombie still from DH's death I guess.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Pills don't make me feel any different, I have just never been one to take pills. But had to have these combined with the injections that I get, along with an antiinflammatory...so they all work together. He gives me a choice on the dosage, mgs, and I always start with the lowest. So if I get hurt or do to much, it is easy to increase them. It is a very controlled program....geared to your weight, lifestyle, etc. It works for me, but with the mega flight hours, and having just done something stupid to hurt it again, the meds had to be readjusted.
Alternative is surgery.

No Ashley's sweetie is no longer. He asked her to marry him and she put him on the road. Her pattern, she does it every time, and I had warned him. she likes not having to deal with somebody's elses whims, she enjoys living alone. It was over by the time she went back in December. She will stay here till classes start again in the fall. When the guy gets serious, Ashley backs away. She was never fond of his Jewish family differences, either...my best friend who died was Jewish, and she and Ashley had a long talk about it last fall, but the guy's family was very intolerant, and Ash knew it would never work easily especially if children were involved. His parents got mad when he bought Ashley a Christmas tree and put it up in his condo for her. Parents saw it, and hit the ceiling. No respect for others' beliefs.
Ash handled it in her own way....told them she was very tolerant and acceptant of their beliefs, but that they were not her own. And that was the end of that. So they dated a few times following Christmas, but she totally ended it when her classes ended and she decided to come home. she is fine with it, happy to be on her way.
Not sure where she will work, but she will find a fun place, she knows everybody around here, so there will be not a problem with that.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Wow, better that she realizes it now - sooner than later..sometimes we fall in love and forget the differences thinking they don't matter, but they do BIG time...he musn't have been the one...HE will come one day!!!

You've a lot to look forward to over the coming months, with Ashley coming home, going to Alaska, how wonderful for you....busy lady, but maybe you need to be busy right now...time sure is passing by, to think of it is overwhelming, we've just had spring and before you know it, the fall and winter will be upon us..not looking forward to that...

OMG I AM LOSING it....

Talk show on, speaking of what, oh yes STRESS..the specialist they had on told everyone to get a piece of paper and make 2 columns, first column to read Can Control and second column Cannot Control and to think of our lives and what's going on and put as many of our stress situations on the list..then we must find a balance..find the largest issue in the CANNOT CHANGE column and know that we have to accept this stressful situation as we cannot change it, we have to say "so what" and let it go..then he told everyone to put the paper on the floor, stand up, and stomp it, with anger if you want, keep stomping and MOVE ON!

kind of interesting...

Well not sure why, it's a light rain and the paving guys are back..

Liz we are having the same weather. I am ok with it because more time for my newer plants to get established before the hot hot weather. I am so tired of the wind though it is like a hurricane every other week.

I think the bowling ball is great. I found a tile guy that said he will give me more scraps anytime I want them of his granite and tile etc. since they are unusable for him. I got some and need to buy the T1-11 siding to make my fountain backsplash. I saw bowling ball planters somewhere too.

Shar that is some view of Alaska.

Gita is that the breed type? Anatolian or the name, he is huge. You seem close to your family, Are you?

We are waiting for this lady to call me that we are buying a Toyota Corolla from, it is a 96 with 80k miles for $4800 which is nothing for a Toyota. We need a car fast and this one seems like a great deal. Praying it is.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Now he has everyone wearing garbage bags for the day, to show you can wear your garbage, move on and look wonderful and continue to function in the real world...odd...but can see his points to get back in line with living..

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

I need to do that sometimes, but I would stomp on the paper and put it in the drawer and have to repeat periodically until I get it or get tired of stomping and storing it!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Had a Toyota Corolla Dawn a few years back, forget what year, but loved it...that is a good price..good luck..talk about changes in the weather...something up there is going on, guess maybe we shouldn't be sending things through the atmosphere, either that, or the good Lord is trying to tell us it's time to behave, be kind...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Guess it's just excersices to show you how futile it is to keep re-hashing..at some point we have to let go, look at the future and really do say..'so what'..can't move forward before we let go of the 'backwards' right?

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Or chase our tails

Victoria Harbour, ON

That's about it..the be all and end all is that we each have the ability to change our lives, can live with the past or move on..not an easy thing to do for sure, but I make an active action each time I start 'falling backwards' to get up, do something, read something positive, smile, and I get back to being positive...

Lordy another major accident on 400 Highway North..closed all lanes and southbound has 1 lane closed..a couple of tractor trailers and not sure what else..will be a fun ride home, but that's ok, just think of those poor people who might lose loved ones..

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

I always pray when I see an accident or see ambulances and Police and Fire trucks w/lights and sirens

Victoria Harbour, ON

I know, was with Suzanne one day, got stuck in an accident and her appt. had to be changed..told her, 'just think of how his appts. have to be changed'...it was the trucker that got killed trying to avoid hitting many cars..hero I would say..all caused by street racing, infact watch his 'widow' talk yesterday after 1 of the 3 young men was sentenced...he got 200 days I believe 'house arrest' and NO driving for LIFE!...the other 2 still have to get their sentences...but if they are trying to send out a clear message that street racing will not be tolerated, then they've not done it..should have been 'vehicular homicide' in my mind..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Getting long, thought I'd move us over..more comfortable..
