Spring Blooms - Part 9

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Nice shots, Candyce. Nice to see everyone is blooming now!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Yes, Victor. It is a relief to see things blooming now. I know that I, for one, got a bit impatient with the snow cover and the long winter season. Still, I am being rewarded every day now!

Dyane - congrats on the baby and the spring blooms!!

Candyce - the garden you and Anna put in in the fall came out really nice! Love all those spring blooms!

Victor........what a wonderful collection of nice pics! I love the contrast colors of the ferns!

Oh my gosh, it's 102 deg. out. I had hoped to get some other things done outside today, but all i'm getting around to doing is cooling of the young new growth of plants that are wilting, even the Lavender!! I also thought that going down to the river today would be great, but it's melting the snow above so fast that it's back at January levels. Unfortunately not suitable for wading/swimming because it's loaded with undertows. Yuk!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Very nice Weeze - congrats on the surviving JM! More great ones, Bill. I love kerria and will probably get more for a new shady area.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

102?!!

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

everyones yards a looking fantastic!

I bet if I were to go back up to 4th falls again today that it would look a whole lot different, more like a river instead of a falls.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

To paraphrase Victor.......102?!

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Yep, 102 victor!!! I'll put up a picture of the thermometer in a minute. It said 104 earlier, so I moved it to a spot where I thought it wouldn't get reflective heat. As early as monday this week they were saying, without a doubt, that we would break records by quite a bit. yesterday some coastal towns were in the mid 90's, and they're on the beach!

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Here's a link to a weather.com page. About half way down the page there's a link to a video titled something like "historic heat in the west" or something like that. If anyone is curious. I'd link directly to the video, but my computer is a bit bogged down since I'm loading some pictures.

the thermometer

Ouch! That is in the sun though, right? That usually adds about 15-20 degrees. In any event, it's too hot, too early! That's the Pacific Northwest I dream about.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

It was in full sun, it's in filtered light there, depends on which way the wind has the trees going whether or not it's in the sun. I agree, I still like it here.... just spoiled. I've never denied that.

I've had this lavander bush for 11 years, this is the first time I've ever seen IT wilt.

The river, loaded with heavy snow melt runoff crud. You know for certain that it wasn't taken during typical flood season due to the leaves on the trees!

in the thermometer picture, you can sort of see the shady spots around it. I can stick it more shade and see how it comes out? As a kid I would've died with boredom listening to people talking about the weather, it's thoroughly entertaining now.

Must be tempting, as you said.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Very!!!! However the head must win the battle. None of the locals touch "The River" when it's that high (many stories of drownings). But it sure looks good!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Very nice.

Aquebogue, NY(Zone 6a)

Thank you. I was showing my husband all the beautiful photos, as I do when he is actually home and he commented, of course on the 102 degree weather in Oregon. We're getting rain on the weekend, again.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No complaints about the rain - just the temps!

Aquebogue, NY(Zone 6a)

Yeah, we need the rain.
Could be warmer so we could go out and play.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

I'll give you 20 deg. and a couple days of rain!!! (actually, we're under where we want to be, but not going to talk about that). By Sunday we're supposed to be back to spring temps again. Looking forward to that!!!!!

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Nice tulips and black tulip!!

Aquebogue, NY(Zone 6a)

Thank you, redchick.

Yeah, we need the rain, just wish it would act like May. We aren't warming up much. It was warm for a day or two, then it got cooler. Or I'm just aging.

Maine, United States(Zone 5b)

Wow, some amazing pictures in there, guys!

redchic, I envy where you live, I really do. The trees, the moss, the ferns, the waterfalls...that's heaven to me. Oh, except for the ginormous slugs you guys have out there!! ;) Seriously, I do love the Pacific Northwest.

Still no real blooms here, but this caught my eye today...water droplets looking peculiar on the rubbery leaves of hosta 'Thunderbolt'. All hosta should have leaves this thick!

I agree! I think that the PNW is a beautiful place. With the exception of the slugs.... and bears, and mountain lions. But, they're pretty shy. It has it's downsides here, but I never want to leave. Love to visit more places, but always want to return! That's a great picture.

Dyane, I love what you've done with the forsythia area and the picture of the deutzia. I agree you would look funny in the yard. If I were you're neighbor.... I would have to take a picture!

Venu, i always love your description of Schuberti. cracks me up every time.

Well, a pic of the finishing temp before I went inside at around 8 pm. It is in the shade. So the warmest in the nation today was Death Valley, ca at 107 deg. Second in the nation...... Roseburg, OR at 105! I am i hour north east of there. I only work in Eugene, don't live there. I think I really did top out at 101/102 somewhere.

Since all I did was water today, I had time for some pictures. I try to no let them be too boring!

I guess i'm starting from the back yard and working around.

the cercis are sooo confused by the weather. the late snow set them back in leafing out and something has stalled the flower buds (they've stopped at only half open). Yesterday they were revolting and wilting in the heat. I thought that today would do them in, but for some reason they are doing a little better than yesterday although you can tell in the pic that they are still wilting to some degree.
