Glenview, IL

And just one last shot just for liz...Isn't this a beautiful hand to hold and dance?

You might just wonder where my lil guy was...busy at the Park center where his art is being displayed.
But he always says his pretty, have good time or ill wrestle you down.

Thank you for reading the story of my day...Good thing it wasn't wedding or we would never sleep!

Hi Celia..

Hello lovely ladies! ^_^

Shar, after finding out you paint well..hmmm...now I'm not too sure about the gift I have for you. So, be patient please...
Ves522, we just finished putting up the trellises. Will take pics for you. There are no fruiting vines, and the veges are grown in strawbales this year. Only tomatoes, cayenne peppers and Japanese eggplants. Pic shows I tucked in a few annuals in there too.
Liz, hope the weather will soon be kinder to you. Are you almost through with your R,W & B box? I'm thinking of starting the swap earlier.
Laura...a brilliant idea on the quilt. I got lots of fabrics and fat quarters that needed to be used up! Will you please let me know whenever you need extras?
Bev, I love your viburnum. The blooms are so full. I do have a Blueberry Muffin Viburnum (I think) whose berries will turn blue. But their white blooms are not as lush as yours. My viburnum is only a foot high and suffered last year from a late frost.
Jeanine, I cried looking at your Mum....Thanks for sharing those precious moments. My parents died young, in their 50's. Didn't have any closure with neither, as I was here...and they were in Singapore. If I can have a moment returned to me, it would be the moment when I had to say goodbye at the airport..I would hug them longer and tell them they are the best parents this daughter could ever have.
Celia, so glad you made your way here. I have a Chihuahua that drinks coffee with me every morning. She'll have exactly 3 tbsp. but one morning she stole some from my cup.
Like Amy described, the inevitable happened...
▲Boing ▲ ..boing▲ ..boing ▲ ..►► Crash!!!
Cathy and Shar, I love the roses. Am now looking for a fragrant yellow climber that's very disease resistant.
Judy, your daughters are gorgeous. Some Kodak moments there.
Betty, you have such a beautiful garden. It shows you put in a lot of hours to make sure all your plans come together. Please don't overdo yourself.
Interesting that you've discovered Hostas. My favorite is Red October, so called because of it's red stems. The only shade I have is made from my 2 oak trees, and one provide shade for the hostas, while the other, hellebores. If only mailing plants to Canada's allowed, you will get some.
Betty, you'll make the best judge. So glad Judy thought of it. I'm sure you won't be easily *ahem* persuaded, not even for the best tea in China!!!

Here it comes..latest on me..
Not a very good visit at the doctor's yesterday. The tests showed I have to prick more often and of course more units of insulin. No more choccies, even the dark ones. Good bye to once a week fried chicken (how can I live in the South?)-----------and worse...bye bye rice, which I only have like once a week! (Oh wait...must be those buffets at the Chinese restaurants)
I've already given up potatoes and bread. But how can I say less red meat. Sniff..sniff.. I have to.. A good juicy NY strip, medium rare and that heavenly piece of Prime Rib.
I know you all will be giving me positive vibes so I can control this killer disease.
Will try to check in daily.
To those that I've missed...I love you too!
Blessings Galore!

Well good morning all, glad I was up early, lots of photo's to view...just did a little more work to my 'red/white/blue' project and have a few minutes until I have to go back to it...there is a light misty rain happening, so no outside for now at least..Will focus on dusting/closet cleaning and of course painting today....

Where to start, where to start..

First of all Shar and Doc, the roses are spectacular and I envy you your gardens...might with permission of Doc paint "Sheer Bliss" so delicate looking...

Jaye, you just go ahead my dear and move that red/white/blue date up a tad..I'm a ready (will be after today)..lol..Were your parents killed in Signapore Jaye? How very sad...what is so tragic these days with the go/go/go, we just don't take the time 'enough' to express our feeling with family and friends..should be on our 'to do' list to tell one person a day what they mean to us...get pencil and paper out, add it to 'your list' TODAY! Jaye, you know when visiting here you'll get the what for if you don't look after yourself...sorry you didn't get a better report yesterday...thank the Lord that I don't live across the border, can imagine how 'swap' crazy' I'd be...as for being the 'judge' I'm taking it all very seriously, no one will have special treatment (lol) have a journal, will monitor 'mommy hood' right from the beginning, will work on a point system..so watch out....be good, be caring and be loving or Judge Betty will rat you out-deduct points etc......

Bet Gita/Ruby are gabbing a mile a minute today..hope weather is good for them..think it's today is it not? know that Ruby won't be home until Sunday..miss her posts..

Judy, what can I can, a princess, date to die for (gorgeous hunk) and proud parents and sibblings...thanks for letting us share some of your memories..bet she (and you..) are tired this morning..guess you didn't get to go with her to take photo's at the prom right? (lol) knowing you, you must have looked for some way to crash the party....

Jeannine, when you do something from a photo that wasn't the clearest, one worries that you don't capture the personality of the 'furry' but by mom's expression, it was her 'loved' one..are you feeling any better..over that flu...was looking at my mold in the back shed yesterday, picked it up, put it down, picked it up..better get a plan in mind before I start digging and cementing right? Haven't forgotten though, it's on one of my weekend 'to do's'..your garden is also spectacular and loved the photo's of the 'blue birds' shucks I'm still mad at 'Missy' a beautiful birds life taken ...

Liz, what is on your agenda for today? going to the in-laws or do you get to play..had thought of going to a few garage sales to look for goodies for our 'trash to treasure' swap but with the light mist of rain doubt there would be many..so I'll not get off-track, I'll stay here and get my matt done, swap trades done and cleaning...

Celia, glad you dropped in...

Lurkers, if you are out there, do enjoy your visit here and all have a nice day!

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

Betty, you go right ahead, I wish you could smell it as well. It is well named! I am just dumbfounded I'm so pleased with this and my Queen E. I use lasanga method on my rose beds last spring to see if I could "renew" them a bit. These are all old established roses and were looking a bit pooped out. An man o man, this is the result, so I will be continuing with the lasanga on these and am building a bigger area for my new rose garden. I have told the DH I have waited long enough, I WILL have that rose garden this year at least the beginning of one..........LOL

Jaye so sorry to hear about your med results, that's no fun :(

Sharran, you got purtie rosies also. :)

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,
Sharon and Doc..love seeing your roses..
Doc..that Sheer Bliss looks like porcelain..lovely. I hope that I can one day say.."I have tons of roses"..But I am seeing nice growth.

Well Judy..that was fun to see your girl get ready for the prom. What a beauty." Making memories" So sweet of her fella to bring her a wrist corsage..Great dad to go to the dance and see his 'princess'

Jaye....ohhh dear....what the heck can you eat..just fruit and veggies? I will be on the look out for Red October.
I have only seen photos of it.
I am going to the garden centre today..need a few white impatiens..and some sweet potato vine.

So far the sun is shining..they called for rain today..but it has changed to tonight..that is wonderful...
More time to play in the garden.

Hi Liz,
Waving back..the heat you describe sounds awful. Enjoy your BBQ with MIL..

Ah Betty, the gardens will benefit from the rain..I love to walk in the garden in the morning after a rain ..
I get some neat pics with the rian drops on the blooms.

Oh..I put my hummingbird feeder out yesterday..and I saw one come about half an hour later.
The wind just kicked up and I can see the petals form the crab apple tree blowing down..so pretty..but the blooms don't last long.

Bye for now
Enjoy your day.
Carol

P.S. Decided to show you the gazebo before the wisteria and clematis starts leafing out. The chairs and table were painted last weekend.

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Carol, That gazebo is very nice. Good place to kick back and have coffee and let the world go by.
Hi! everyone. Here is another Sat already. I wanted to put some Diatomateous Earth arround all my hostas today but it is windy so will have to wait some more. Meanwhile those little buggers just keep eating. I hope they all get a belly ache!!!! Mabe I can move some ferns to the shade garden today.
Hey guys, I moved the birdbath to another spot and it does look better. I will take some pics after I do a couple of more things to it.
LOve you all and have a good day and a wonderful week end. HUGS BEV

Good morning all. I really enjoyed reading about the Prom and the pictures Judy. And all the flower pictures are gorgeous! It's supposed to be nice today so I'm going to try to get lots done outside. Hope you all have a wonderful day

Victoria Harbour, ON

OMG amazing when you can't go out how many corners you can attack and projects you can work on at one time..lol...

Everything is dusted, vaccumed, set pretty..ooops last time I did my nails I dropped some nail polish remover on coffee table, so, just standed the top down, now I'll brush on some paint, let it dry and give it a few coats of varnish..another eye sore dealt with..hidden in my little cafe on the shelving was a cutsy chicken that I put porcelain eggs in so drilled a hole, hung it up and set the eggs..washing all the dished of the faux food, will wash all the upstairs floors and then it's clean/clean...

Carol, you keep showing me that beautiful gazebo and I'll be jumping in the car and coming to see you just so WE can have coffee together..it's not pouring now, just a light mist of rain, so who knows, perhaps later today I can plant some of my seedlings and have about another 30 pkgs. of perennial seeds to plant..

But I'm very content, close your eyes, still in my p.j.'s, why not, I work better when I'm comfortable..

If I finish my red/white/blue project today, I'll d-mail (those of you who aren't in the 'swap' a photo of what I've accomplished, I'm hoping my 'swap buddy' will know it was done with pride for the U.S.A. ha/ha/ha Liz and Jaye, no photo for you guys just incase you let it slip what I was up to..lol..so you'll just have to wait till my swap bud get it in the mail...nope, not even one hint..bet Jaye you'll dish out those names before the deadline right?

just think, yet 2 more days off...ohohoh, this is indeed a productive weekend so far...looked at the Canadian Tire flyer and a few things I wouldn't mind having..might find time tomorrow morning at 8am to make a trip in...

If I'm a good girl, I might even get a chance to create 'treasures' with this floormat runner (front deck) and do the watering can..what you think, think I can do it...

Just teasing...
So back to play...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Cathy, sounds as though you've a project or 2 in mind as well...we're all so busy, but all take a few secs. to drop in to say 'hi'..that's wonderful..no better place for me than to have coffee in hand and good friends to gab with...

Yuk, forgot to tell you today is the day that I add 1cups of flour/sugar and milk to that recipe..omg, it's fermented, smell is enough to put me on a high, but, they tell me that's what it's like at this point..will be doing some baking later next week..it'll be taste, I promise..

Wow. Lots to catch up on this morning.

I plan to go to work this weekend. I have shifts today and tomorrow. Off at five, out to the gardens, eat something, take care of hubby who has a cold. The usual.

And Hi back, Seed!!!

Funny about your pup, Jaye! Vet says it's okay if he has a few coffee beans but no more than two or three. For some reason he likes them. Go figure.

Thumbnail by kwanjin
TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Morning my dears. A full day ahead of me. It's the Blue Crab Fest at the beach, and of course I'll be heading straight for the crafts' booths!
Carol I'll be right there for that cup of coffee in your beautiful gazebo. Kel promised me one this year, but with so much going on, the back porch will do :(
Could you believe that I was once a vegeterian. Did it for about 6 months..got my sugars under control until steaks drew me back! I have to divide the Red October, so you'll get a piece Carol.
Cathy, I made lasagna beds too!! That's the way to go for my clay soil. Couldn't wait for gypsum to do its' work. Also I found the roses that are mulched at least 1 foot, and hence kept the roots cooler, are much healthier. But, I'm taking your advice, future roses will be the antique ones.
Bev, give those snails a party!! Serve them beer.
Liz, there's a new DGer just joined the swap and her hubby is a 4th of July baby too. Imagine having a birthday that the whole country celebrates!
Betty, my parents died of health issues. First my Dad, kidney failure, then my Mum not too long later, lung cancer. When Mum was first diagnosed with cancer, docs said that she had a year left. I was making plans to have someone trained to relieve me, get things in order at home...and precisely 3 weeks later, she went meet Our Maker. You are so right, NOW is the time to tell those you love how important they are to you.
Good news! My blood glucose reading today is 87!!! Never had it that low in the morning. Normally it will be around 230. Hence the seriousness of this matter. I woke up this morning and feeling the presence of loving thoughts...thank you my ladies. Not going to be too casual on taking care of myself.
And Betty, I had moved the swap day closer. So you can dust off that box now!! Lol!!
Don't you have enough chores and projects that you'd be wanting to do more? Gosh, anything you chose to do will turn out as wonderful as you, Betty.
Y'all have a great sunny weekend, and play safe!
Blessings Galore!
Jaye

Morning, y'all..
Just stopped by to say that, and to tell you that I love that reddish iris...also,
Carol, can I come live in your gazebo?
Be back later.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Jaye, my son was born 'New Years Day'..everyone around to party with him (he doesn't drink) but I always felt badly as a child he missed out on his birthdays..parents were usually always too busy for the kids to attend his party..then years later his dad died on the same day, so this year he'll be turning '40' and I thought late Aug.early Sept. I'd have a family 'b.b.q.' to celebrate...

still busy, working along, Diane telephoned and we'll get together on Monday here and finish our flower floormats...sister just called, wanted me to go to her house and do rhubbarb leaves tomorrow or Monday..Monday's off and not so sure I want to travel 100 miles one way on a long weekend...

Police are patrolling our highways in great numbers..people drive terribly on long weekends..they said there were 96 accidents on our regional highways yesterday..so place for me is 'home'...

Ahhhh Jaye, only 1 day sooner..you are teasing...

(Cathy), MO

I keep hearing everyone talk about lasagna beds. I asked a few questions earlier, but really don't know how to go about it. You just layer newspapers???

Victoria Harbour, ON

we should get the girls who have done them to explain them in words that (I) can understand..would like to try it, but sounds so sophisticated even though I'm sure it's not..there is a thread on 'lasagna' bed and I've gone there qute a few times but all 'greek' to me...

(Cathy), MO

We need someone to tell us in "simple" language! LOL

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

I just layer, starting with cardboard to kill the weeds, or newspaper all watered down, then a layer of maybe manure or compost, then some topsoil, maybe grass clippings, leaves, etc. sorta like a compost bin. It needs to be started in the fall so it will all mush in together for spring planting. Just keep layering as you have things to put in, and after awhile it all turns to rich dirt. Probably Doccat or someone else has other ideas, but it is not hard to do, just takes a long time to work well. It is the way I started my daylily bed, and I should have done that for the roses as well.
I was too much in a hurry for the roses though.

OK, back outside now.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Will try it..think what confuses me (and it doesn't take much) is if you put grass cuttings etc. wouldn't it encourage grass growth???

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Only if the grass is in seed.

Use leaves then, instead of grass if you rake this fall.

I had cut my iris and brought them inside to a vase when the storm got so many of them. This morning I took them all outside and laid them on the bed I am working on. Next I will sprinkle some compost over, maybe a bit of topsoil. I won't plant in it till way later, maybe bulbs in fall. I haven't decided yet.
maybe transplants.

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

Sharran is right on the money with the suggestions for a lasanga bed, but you can plant in it if necessary. It's just a fancy term for sheet composting, so you use anything you would in a regular compost bed, including kitchen scraps, Egg shells, spent coffee grounds and leftover coffee. The worms love it!

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Oh, yeah..I forgot the eggshells and coffee. But the reason I don't plant in it for awhile is because I usually use cardboard so I want to wait for it to deteriorate.
Cath, I knew you could explain it better than I can. I like it for raised beds.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Hello Ladies. Just got back from the Crab Fest, and quite a disappointment. Had to walk a long, long, way to the venue as there were no shuttle buses where we had to park, due to a last minute change of plans by the organizer.
With my bad right foot, three fourths of a mile feel like 4 miles.
Plenty of craft booths, only 2 pottery booths. Got a few 'stuffs' just to validate our attendance. Ha!!
This is supposed to be a celebration and promotion of blue crabs, yet there were only 2 food stalls selling them. One's Phillips Seafood and the other a local restaurant...guess you all got the idea.
Like Shar, in November, my lasagna beds are spread out first with refrigerator cardboard boxes. Then pine straws, and layered after with top soil, compost and repeat with compost and top soil until I get the desired height. The wonderful thing was I did the beds by myself. Didn't have to wait on muscle man to do any digging!! These beds are for my Asiatic lilies and dahlias.

Betty, my younger sister's birthday is also on the first of Jan. Ours is a large family of 8 kids and birthdays are just another day, so she didn't miss much.
Betty, the swap name exchange has been moved to the 23rd of May instead of 6th of June. Mailing date is 2nd of June, but you can mail yours out on the 26th of May, so it will give yours plenty of time to get to your buddy! So there...lol! :P

Blessings Galore!

Well I am tired!!! We went out to the camper this morning and I did a little work out there. Came back and have been pulling weeds most of this afternoon. I would like to know where they come from. I have a couple of pics from the campground I think all will like. BEV

He was going to the bog across the road from our camper. We always have a pair of canada geese stop at the first pond and have thier babies and this year there is 5 pair. They are pretty. Getting all kinds of pics of them. BEV

Jaye, mailed you a photo....

Bev, you have a bit of Canada there..used to love sitting by the water at home early morning and watching them swim by stopping for 'bread treat' along with the swans but they became a nuissance and had to give up...

Cleaning up..finished a 'swap' project all but a few finishing touches, must wait to get feedback from you all, not quite you all...Liz and Jaye...no/no/no...

(Cathy), MO

Well, I am completely and totally exhausted! But it's a good tired. Not the mental junk I get all week long. I went in to the office and worked this morning, but have been outside from early afternoon on until dark. Potting up brugs, hellebores, seperating a big huge clump of root bound ginger. Pulling weeds. Burning brush, Sweating and dodging bumble bees! Wonderful afternoon and evening! I'll sleep tonight!

Hope you all had a wonderful day. It was beautiful here & I feel like I actually got something productive done.

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

morning all

jaye any fat quarters or suitable material you dont want, just send it down. the quilt will be pastel pink and lemon... maybe pastel blues?

liz, i wanted to make a friendship quilt using fabric from my DG friends and myself. i thought anyone that wants to post some can, if they want to and i will make one.. then i have a hug from all of you when i need it!! make sure you give it a hug before you send it tho!

(Cathy), MO

Good morning. What kinds of fabric are you using? I have bunches I need to do something with!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, looks like a sunshine day, perhaps I'll get out of my jammies today..

Must go outside and see if the B&B sign is still wet or if I can sand off remnants of old paint, then give it a few coats of white and another project done..I've cleaned every room upstairs (imagine - even the dustbunnies under the bed) spotless up there, now for downhere, rec. room is ok except for dusting and my craft room, well we won't go there..I clean it up one minute and in the next all of the 8 tables are full of projects...will wash the floor though..and that will about put in today..quiet weekend, boys in the city - soccer/lacross, boys here gone to the islands, might be back later so it's just me and I'm quite liking it...maybe I'll be a recluse...

Went outside on back deck, put out all my pretty hummingbird feeders now to wait for their arrival..have my 2 stained glass butterflies to put up, isn't it funny how the power of suggestion changes things, boys said my yard was a bit 'junky' imagine, now I'm thinking where to put them and every place I look I'm thinking, no better not!

So off I go to work on a 'b' lol

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

hi there!

well for the friendship quilt i thought pastel pink florals... pale lemon maybe pale baby blue florals.... soft... gentle...like you guys!
the one i am doing at the moments is all country patterns and he main theme colour is green.. like a moss green, not bright....

i have a blue and lemon on or some material waiting to be made up..

but if anyone has material they dont want and u can afford to send it then feel free! it will go to good use.. otherwise just a half yard of the above is fine and dont forget the hugs!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

You are so cute Dawn...

Did some tidy up on a project and now it MUST be breakfast time right?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Still to cold to work outside, so will continue my floormat journey..need one for outside front deck...won't do anything elaborate, so should be done by tonight..if I'm a good girl and can stay awake, hopefully I'll get both '10 coats' of finish and mine can be place at front door tomorrow...

Have no idea what I'll do with the floral mat Diane and I will be finishing tomorrow..but am sure I'll find somewhere...lol

(Cathy), MO

Good morning everyone. It's going to be another gorgeous day here. I'm going to hit the ground running and try to get a bunch accomplished today. Going to try to get the rest of the cone flowers put in the little bed I'm trying to make. Still need to get something for the border but I can get it started at least, and get them in the ground and out of cow pots.

Laura, are you using mostly cotton or cotton/polyester for the friendship quilt? I will go thru my stack of fabric and see what's in there. I also have pieces of fleece left if you think you could use those.

Betty, anything you make, that you can't find a use for.....I know where they could find a really good home! LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

lol Cathy, had also meant to say "so cute Laura" not Dawn..of course Dawn's cute too...lol..she's vacationing...

Well what I thought was going to be a 'sunshine' day has turned rather cool and overcast..not so sure I'll get to paint that B&B sign after all..

On Friday I spray painted metal primer on the few pieces I had purchased at garage sale the week before, had some black left so thought I'd touch up the faded metal arbour, got about 1/4 done and ran out of spray..did spray some of my vines though..not as pretty when in black..got another can yesterday but now I'm trying to figure out how to spray it when vines are growing on it..lol..so, will have to do the upper half and wait till fall...

It's chilly enough here this morning that I've got a micro heater on the table to warm the area so my paint will dry quicker..want that big piece DONE...

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Morning!

I see we are clouding up also. Was nice and sunny a bit ago. But I think it might call for a jacket and earmuffs today.I have enough to do either inside or out. I kind of took yesterday off.

Laura the idea of the quilt is great. I will see what I have. I did get rid of a bunch of material but do have some left. Keeping my fingers crossed. I know I had some blue stuff. Don't know about the soft and gentle pertaining to me! LOL Soft yes!

Bev great pictures. We get a pair of geese in the pond and sometimes a pair of ducks. I think they think of it as their private spa!

Jaye sorry your outting wasn't what you expected. That is such a bummer.

DH and I went shopping yesterday. Even tho he didn't say anything I think he noticed how high the prices were getting. He didn't say much about most things I wanted to get. Now if he had done the shopping monday like I asked he would of been much happier with what was spent!

Have to go and get my day started. Have whites soaking so far!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Oh happy days...looked high and low and under the beds for the stained glass piece I hang on my back deck..a few pieces of glass had fallen because they were just glued and grouted so I thought well I must have thrown it away, lo and behold, because it doesn't look as though I'll be outside today and you have to wait so long for paint to dry a thought came to me while doing these floormats...think about 3 years ago I started ones with garden theme and then just gave up, so went to get it out, oh oh bed roller must be on it so had to move the bed, there leaning against the wall was the glass piece...soooo until I make a proper one it can go outside, I just glued a few pieces to replace the missing ones...

Should be called after a tornado, boy when I have energy I can sure can turn rooms upside down..if it isn't bad enough downstairs I've graduated to the dining room table lol to put patio paints on some of my flower pots...now don't laugh take a look at these tables...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

and now repairs to the glass piece..

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

oops, almost showed you the 3rd table, can't do that, 2 of my swap gifts are on it....
