Oh, I thought you wanted baby avs, too..............well, you can grow them out better than I can. I was stingy with the streps because my babies are just being potted up the past week , this week and in the weeks to come.........but I will share more streps with you this summer when they are ready.

Rain, when this sale is over on Mother's Day, I want my shelves almost empty so I can enjoy the summer and get to travel a bit. Just remind me after the sale..........Remember that my idea of 'traveling' is going to see my adult kids and play with the grandchildren!

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

WOW, SO much going on today......I can barely keep up with you all *lol*
Nancy, congratulations on your baby strep seeds coming up and WOWZERS would you look at all your new babies? Those are just AWESOME! You are going to have so much fun babying them this summer :)

Brenda....MORE snow? Are you kidding me girlfriend? That is just AWFUL! ICK! But your plants look so gorgeous that it really doesn't matter what it's doing outside does it? You have roses, streps, AV's and LOTS of beauty surrounding you :)
What awesome pictures again today :) I can't wait to have something smiling so I can take it's picture :) I just have the same 'ol same 'ol thangs bloomin' here right now but I will have LOTS and LOTS of babies coming this fall ladies :)

Kim..I just can't even tell you how excited I am about those seeds babies..I keep peeking to see if they are getting bigger even tho I know I shouldn't..LOL..
Oh my gosh..what you said about Gail....No way even Texas is big enough to hold that girls heart..she is truly amazing ... what a sweetheart : )

Grand Prairie, TX

wow, Cedarnest, it looks like you plants all arrived in tip top shape! Gessiegail is totally awesome. She told me she bought her 1st AV a year ago. I can hardly imagine all the lovely plants and blossoms a year from now. I bought scads of outdoor type seeds for the yard besides the AV leaves. I will have all my shelves full for weeks to come with what is going outside when they sprout. I even bought some oregano -the other end of the spectrum were orchid seeds with lots of flowers in the middle! I am trying to tell myself not to even look on E for awile. Talk about addicting...I don't want to end up with the derelicts, clutching my AVs' in a shopping cart...I can picture it now on one of those reallty movies of the week! LOL

You know flattery will get you 'anywhere'! Just teasing. I got an email today and although it is probably not appropriate, I just have to share since we are all gardeners. If you want to subscribe on a daily basis just dmail me.

In light of today's Scripture readings, Fr. Bob's Prayer is:

Great Gardener and Owner of the Vineyard, thank you for caring for us since we were seedlings. Thank you for planting us in your vineyard. As you came among us and planted yourself in the garden of our human experience, you grafted us unto a new life. We are now branches of your vine, stretching out throughout the world. We live in and feed from your divine energy and nurturing presence flowing through us. Prune what does not grow in us. Hoe and fertilize what needs new spurts of growth. Just as your earliest followers struggled with the radical newness of your message and fidelity to the ancient traditions and laws, so we also struggle this day. Your people struggle, not with issues of circumcision, and kosher, but with how to be faithful to tradition and ancient laws, and still be faithful to your Spirit moving us forward to your day of full blossom. Help us not to imprison ourselves or each other in the past. Fertilize us with trust. Smile on us and help us to smile amid the tensions, dyings and risings that are your paschal mystery happening within us. Heal the hurts of your Body, your growing vine.

Gail thank you for sharing that.. It is awesome ..really touches me..I am going to print that to keep right now!!!!

(Zone 1)

LOL, Wildskygal ... you fit in with this group, perfectly!

:( I can see the headlines now:

"NEW ADDICT NEEDS REHAB": Our reporters found this little lady, in the pouring rain, wearing a flowery hat, clutching gardening tools and pushing a shopping cart full of African Violets down the alleyway ... looking for shelter for herself and her plant babies. All rehab shelters are full! If anyone at all can help ... if you have a little space in your shed ... PLEASE, PLEASE reach out and help your neighbor, offer a safe place where she and her violets can find solace from the storm. Whatever you do ... DON'T offer her money, as it will not be spent on food and shelter but on more plant babies to feed her addiction! Just offer her a dry place for the night ... she promises to be on her way at the first light of day ... in search of a permanent home (preferably with a greenhouse).

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

WildskygalL.. I must have missed your post..Yes..Welcome to you!!..you hang around here long enough you will be an addict for sure..LOL

OL..Lin..That is so cute I can picture it..hee hee...

(Zone 1)

Oh, let me say something.

I hope I have not offended anyone with my above post. I do not mean to make light of the homeless. I truly do care that in this country, one of the wealthiest in the world ... we have so many lost souls living on the streets and in the woods around us. I have a member of my own family who is homeless ... a long story and one that has to do with addiction, and I know homelessness is not a joke by any means.

So, please if I have offended anyone ... just know that I in no way meant to make fun of those less fortunate.

(Zone 1)

I was trying to be cute but not at the expense of another human being. I really probably should have read over my little story before I hit send.

Please feel free to comment and if anyone is bothered by my post, I will definitely edit it out.

Grand Prairie, TX

Gosh, me too, I actually feed a homeless person quite a bit of the time and do let him stay occasionally. I was only joking. I thank God everyday for my job, which makes everthing else I do possible. I would never knowingly hurt someone else in thought , word, or deed. However, I did like the story. Now matter how down we get, if we can laugh, then everything is 100% better!

(Zone 1)

I knew some folks would think it was a cute story but just in case there is someone out there who knows of someone in a tough situation, I did not want to offend. I have a brother who is an alcoholic and living on the streets somewhere on the west coast of Florida the last I heard. He does not keep in contact with family much ... every once in awhile will call my father and the last he told dad was that he was living in a tent in the woods somewhere. It is really sad, the number of homeless people in this country ... some are homeless because of sudden job loss, others because of mental health issues, others because of addictions. Some are perfectly happy living on the streets, others want so badly to have a job and be self sufficient. I have heard that it is a vicious cycle sometimes ... no one will hire you if you have no permanent address ... yet you can't have a permanent address unless you have a job to earn money.

Ok ... on a lighter note: I feel so very blessed to be a part of this Lovely Garden and especially the AV forum! I have met so many kind and generous folks who so willingly share their knowledge, plants and friendship. Just yesterday I received a box of plants from Gessiegail with adamant instructions that she wants nothing in return! No trade, nothing! Today, my mailman came to the door with a package from Susan51 ... the cutest cup and saucer planter I've ever seen! And, it had nothing to do with a trade ... it was just because she is so sweet! I saw her post a photo awhile back on another thread with this planter and mentioned how cute it was ... she went out and bought me one! This garden is so full of very giving and caring people! I am honored to call you all friends!

Thank you Miss Susan!

Triplets!! That is too cute!! Love it^_^

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Lin, there is not a person who would take your really funny story about wildskygal's new addiction and not laugh. You are too kind and we all know it. I thought it was a very vivid description of what happens to african violet lovers!

I have been looking everywhere for cups to hold 4" african violets for the Mother's Day sale. I found a lot at the Dollar Store in Corpus but only for 2 and 3" pots. I still have a while to look.

Grand Prairie, TX

What an artfully awesome idea for a gift! I won't have any little plants but I can do something along those lines. Maybe not AV's but certainly will have SEEDS! =) I just have to start thinking in a NEW way. Although I did just give a plant for a birthday present last weekend. I am so glad I found yo'all! My day goes by and I am so entertained here at work.

(Zone 1)

We're glad you found us too Wildsky! What a great way to pass time at work, huh ... wonder where Dave's Garden was back when I was still working?! Although back then I wouldn't have had time for the internet while working ... too busy every day.

Wouldn't these coffee cup planters just make the cutest gift container for a little AV or other plant? I just stuck a pot of Penta's in mine to take the picture ... the pentas are going in the yard tomorrow!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

WE are glad you 'found us'!

Guess what, friends! I am going to Jo's Violets in Victoria on Friday to choose what I am going to grow for February's show and sale. She has the best selection and I am already just giggling with delight!
http://www.geocities.com/josviolets/
will take you to her long list of what she grows. My Circus Clown, Heinz Unchanged with the giant blue double blooms came from her last February.

Sorry but I can't open the click here to see what is posted before I made this one. This was typed and my sister in law knocked on the door to visit.

********Nancy , that blue Water something is dead ringer for a beauty!!!

Nice selection Diane..need to go look some of them up : )

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

nice strep Nancy! Diane, you went hog wild shopping didn't you....but it is so much fun isn't it!

You will fall in love with Bristol's Very Berry. She stays in bloom more than any other strep I have and her bloom is a double one!!!!
Silver Skies is so special because she stays so prim and proper in her growing with small leaves. That is a great one to always have!

I killed two Chantasprings because the leaves are so small. If you can make her live, I want to know the secret!!!

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

Ok don't scare me Gail! LOL If you can't grow it no one can!
I do better with the mini AVs than the standard ones so hopefully it'll be OK. Just couldn't resist those yellow bell shaped blooms it's suposed to have.

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

Nancy- You're as bad as me- Those names get me very time! LOL
I would have bought Fish Lips no matter what it looked like just because of the name!

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

LOL Diane..I know what you mean..I almost bought Bristol's Moose Stash for that very reason..lol..Fish Lips is one heck of a name but I had to go check out the bloom and it sure is a beauty : )

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

This is causing a lot of pain tonight. I want to order from Rob's sooooo badly. Shall I? Shall I not?
Maybe I should sleep on this one...................
goodnight everyone!

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

Night Gail!
now you're dreaming...dreaming....rob's? what is it ..oh yeah..rob's violet barn.. nice streps...chiritas...petrocosmeas...wow...order?? yes, I think I will! A nice BIG order. ...lot's of good stuff...snooze...

(Zone 1)

LOL ... Y'all are a hoot! I am just getting back to this thread. We've had very, very, very slow computers since late this afternoon. We have high speed cable internet service but something is definitely going on! Very slow loading pages and sometimes losing internet connection all together! VERY frustrating! I tried sending a d-mail three times and it would disappear never to be seen again. I finally got it typed and sent hopefully without any more problems.

I can't even see the pictures everyone is posting. It shows a little blue question mark. Computer just not connecting for some reason. Sure makes me realize how much I rely on the computer!

Diane: Love your selection from Rob's. I had AV Chantaspring awhile back but I think it's one that died. I must check in the morning and see if that's one I saved a leaf from to root. Seems like I saw a little pot with a leaf and that name on the pot. I have Chirita Aiko and love those yellow blooms! I also have Chirita's tamiana and vietnam.

Will have to go look up those Episcia's you ordered! I love episcias. I sent my only Petrocosmea to RainGazer today in a trade. I just don't feel any particular attachment to that plant ... it did grow but slowly and never bloomed for me. I know it will do much better in her household.

Well ... it's getting late ... Basketball is still on but I'm getting very sleepy so I think I will hit the hay!

Nite everyone - if any of y'all are still up! ^_^

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

WhooHoo!!!! I finally got a sinningia leaf root and put up growth!!!!!! I'm so darn proud.LOL.

Leo B baby.
