ves,
I think one reason I like to remember things like this is that it gives me a chance to "shine"--if someone asks a question, and I have the answer in a flash.
Another thing I always remember is how much I paid for something....like my firsr AM FM console record player I bought in the 50's......................paid $167 for it.
Starzz,
I called my HD and talked to Susan. She is one of our merchandisers. She said it is true (about the tractors and mowers). She had taken her JD push mower in to be serviced and the mechanic there told her that she should buy these from the JD dealer, as those are made better. Same for her FIL's tractor when he needed it serviced....So I guess there's something to all this!
I am going to assume then that this goes for any other place that sells them--like Lowes. NOT just HD!
Will still ask around when I go into work tomorrow.

See - I heard there was an earthquake up in IL last night. I know it was way south from you but did you feel it and is everything ok with you???
Hi, Yes...I am ok, LOL was oblivious until I got the message from Liz.
Thank you for thinking of me. The quake happened around 4:30AM way south of us.
I am in northern IL so was no where close to me.
Shar, are you OK? heard it could be felt through IN and Ky too.
Ok I am really late today so will be back at lunch and post.
Betty, I hope the Doc appt. brings some releif and good news. Winging up my request.
Just a rumble here. I am OK>
Yes, it seems that a lot of us are interested in seeing what the doctor has to say to Betty. I hope that it is just as easy as changing the way a person eats.
It really sounds like a lot of you already have your weekend plans made. I haven't thought that far yet. ha-ha Well, there is one thing that I would like to do. I would like to see my granddaughter. Had a very short visit on Monday, and need more of a fix. I will call her mom and see what is on their agenda for tomorrow.
Since, I got sidetracked this morning, I will most likely be planting the plants tomorrow, that I thought I would do today. I have an appointment for a haircut at 2 and am not sure if I have time to pot anything before I go there or not.
Starzz, I meant to ask my hubby about your John Deere question yesterday and forgot. I just asked him. He was talking about the same topic a few weeks ago, but the item was a Weber grill that was bought at KMart. My husband bought one at a dealer and my son bought one at KMart. He understood someone to say that the Kmart one was of lesser quality. He just called a friend who made a good point about the topic. They are of the same quality, but do not have the same warranties. The ones bought at the dealers will most likely have a better warranty than the ones at other places. He pointed out that it is not cost effective while manufacturing these things to close down an assembly line in order to change rivets, cogs or whatever to make different parts, so you are getting the same product, just a different warranty.
Don't know if this helps or not. It almost seems to be a case of half dozen of one and six of the other. Depends upon who you are talking to as to the answer you will get.
We are having a very beautfiul day here today. I could learn to like this. ha-ha
Have a good one all.

Cross post - Glad to hear that sweet Sharran.

Just got back (and with a full car)..Dr. saw me at 10:30 rather than 10:10 so that was ok..got my shopping in before the Dr.'s and then did some running around afterwards..
Dr. looked at tests taken at the hospital last week and they all show I'm A-ok but he did say my size was not normal at all, says that although the gall bladder was it's proper size that it doesn't mean it's functioning..he also said there could be an obstruction somewhere so, he's making an appt. today with a specialist..Dr. Walc so they will call the office with appt. date, said he'd try to rush things for me..in the meantime he said he wouldn't give me meds, might mask the symptoms but stay away from fatty foods, which I'll do..I've been his patient since he started practice 35 years ago, said I looked marvellous and that we BOTH could loose a little weight but that it was a concern and he'd make sure I'd be in proper hands..asked if I wanted a Toronto specialist or one up here, told him here would be just fine.. so not really more news than I had before but know I'm slowly getting somewhere..thanks for worrying about me...
Now stopped at a re-use it center that just opened in Midland (Habitat) and found a few things..another chandelier (will transform it to an outside treasure...a large glass circular flat bowl type piece, frosted..am sure I can make a little water foundtain out of it and a light fixture that when you turn it in a different position it looks like a globe lamp so I'll figure something out for that..of course got new old fashion table cloths for 5 tables that sit in the yard, the 4x4's for birdhouse, cement and the car was full..lol..
So, am off to spend the rest of the day being creative..wonder how I'll make out?????
Ooops Liz, got the additional wood I needed for the cafe birdhouse..might be on back burner depending how quick I can get the canopy revamped and my other projects done....
Drop in later
Found this hanging in the GH just a bit ago. Had to share with you all. Another one I wintered over. Yes it needs cut back but not yet! It is red madness! So I;m hoping all my little petunia starts are yellow madness!
Vicky, yes that made perfect sense to me. Thank you, I am gonna be alright.
Sounds like you got a lot done yesterday, I sure hope DS makes it for a visit,
Do you have beautiful weather this weekend? Ours is going to be so I am excited to get out and do some work. Oops you forgot the picture of Red Madness...
Carol, That is one beautiful flower! LOL, I am amazed you even made it through Survivor, with all your hard work. Ahhh, so nice to make such an accomplishment. And now you can sit and visit with your friend. I am so excited for you. Hehehe, you little John Deer isn't that much bigger then Ethans! You can always get the kids size eh? But really, i would think they still have parts for your size. Keep my fingers crossed for you.
Oh, oh, someone called and left a message on my Cell. ROFL, I don’t know how to get them. Gosh I hope whoever it was will call back.
Ruby, yippee, I got my Castor Beans yesterday too! Going to plant them this weekend.
Will they be ok in semi shade?
GG. I hope you enjoy outdoors today, LOL I think everyone will.
Betty,. That is some list you have going. LOL, I don’t dare make a list, because if I do, I’ll just look at it…gosh I hope the specialist also says something you ate. Lets just hope and pray for that as well a speedy appointment. I just hate that you are so uncomfortable.
Oh Goodness Dawn, I am glad your over that bout. Good to see you, so now what are you up to now that health has returned? Are you still going to school?
Gilli, How is your time off. Funny Week just seems to woosh by. So I hope you had fun and was able to get outside…Kids love to puddle jump. And oh yuk, on the ants hope they are all gone now.
So it must be visiting time, My sister Gypsy is coming today for the weekend!! Woohoo, She asked if she could come so it’s all good, lol told her she will have to help in the yard and she is way up for it! I’m thinking Fire tonight. Plus she know about Roses so I will ask her to help me transplant my Joseph’s Coat, pray it still alive.
Gita, so nice you are sharing your knowledge.
Shar, Oh I am so glad you are ok too...Geesh just so weird huh to be having an earthquake around here.
Waving Hello to Wonder, hope you are enjoying weekend.
Hi Cat, Rachel, Tropi, Doc, Amy...and whoever else is reading, jump on in tell us a garden story, or LOL just say hi.
So you all enjoy your company and I’ll see you in a bit.
Oh Betty...Hope you are enjoying the afternoon great finds!
Thanks Gita for the info on the John deere mower/ tractors.
Ruby..interesting about the Weber grills too..
I have a Weber..that round kind that uses real charcoal.
So..a friend called this afternoon and we went to a greenhouse place I had never been to.
They grow hydroponic tomatoes and cukes..and in the spring they have loads of hanging baskets. My friend is after a certain salmon colour double geranium that is hard to find so she wanted to go there and check. They have them but they don't want to sell them till at least May 1st. or later., because of the chance of frost. They did have pansies of course and I bought a couple of four paks.
My friend who is coming today to stay ovenight ...is half an hour away now... she just phoned....she got delayed again. Dinner is on low..but first we will have cocktails.
It was another warm day today..so nice to be outside. I did some more shovelling..little by little..the pile is getting smaller.
More friends coming tomorrow to celebrate one of the girls birthday here....I made a card..with a photo of her with flowers and balloons. Going to be sort of a late lunch early dinner type gathering for the four of us. Outside on the deck hopefully ....a gab fest...should be fun.
Betty..glad to hear nothing serious to report but that the Doctor is digging deeper.
I think about you coming here one day, when things are looking nice, to show you around and just sit and enjoy.
The Secret Garden is a soggy mess still..covered in apples and leaves..
I have to wait till the apples dry up and then when I get my mower back I cut them all up and go round and round and make piles that I can rake up. Sure hope they fix my little riding mower soon.
Have a great weekend everyone..I probably won't be on the computer till Sunday..
Cheers,
Carol
P.S. Vicky..did you forget a photo..your post sounds as if you wanted to show us the red madness. petunia.
Well, I started out with good intentions .. did put in about 4 hrs. of work the rest were visits on and off by friends..nice that they were concerned..Bernice comes over from time to time because she can see me through her upstairs window..says I need a break so I must sit and gab..she stays about 1/2 hr. just enough for me to catch my wind..have the rail fencing corners dug and pieces set in..need help with the 8ft runners so that put a stop to that..took out 2 lawn chair sets, washed them down, put new table cloths on the, set the umbrella's and they are done..then I got a box with solar bulbs for my birthday..you can set them to hand from the umbrella but I decided to put them in the tree near the pond..washed and place the 5 container plants out on back deck, gives me a feeling of summer...emptied about 1/2 of the garden pieces from under the deck, washed them and set them in the garden..sat and looked and it's overwhelming, seems like too much and junky but then as soon as the flowers/shrubs pop up they are truly beautiful...
The muskoka chairs that I painted need staining..the backs that I did country gardens on held up but the sun must have weathered the rest of the chair and they need something done with them..tomorrow's project..gee that wasn't on my lift...
So I had a couple of options, I could sew the gazebo top zipper in or I can have a bath, get up early/early and do things when I'm at my best..so the bath won out...
Would you mind terribly if I respond tomorrow to your threads..overdid a bit this aft. and mentally wouldn't focus properly...so my apologies..gab in the morning..
Best today..beautiful summer day..
Worse..no answers to my pregnancy..lol..if I had more time on my hands I'd go into a maternity shop, look around and ask questions about newborns..wouldn't they flip..they'd surely think this old gal is pregnant...would be fun..or not!
What did I learn today...that I'm not the only one getting old, Dr. Jilesen has aged over the past 3 years as much as I did..lol
Betty,
Were you offended that I said your seedlings were leggy? I presume you want honest feedback. I am not going to say they look great and healthy if they are not and need more light to get to that state.
You have not commented on it--I am sorry if you took it in some wrong way.....
Gita
Oops - y'all went on to a new thread and lost me!
i spent most of the week in technical rehearsals for a show i co-designed the lights for w/my DH, who is in DC now. First time to deal with that much of it alone, but i think it went ok - well considering what a chaotic project it was from every angle. He's going to see it on Sunday, so we'll see how he thinks i did.
There is another show i stage manage and do lighting for, and we do the biggest - and final - performance of that tomorrow at the Shubert Theatre here - we will draw well over 1000, and they are always very loud and fun here - it is the big deal. Except it has been 2 weeks since we did it last, and that is highly unusual - usually it is every weekend for 3 or 4 weeks running. So i am pretty nervous about that.
Then i went to watch a rehearsal of A Midsummer Night's Dream this afternoon. i am assisting DH on that one, but he hasn't seen a run thru yet, today was the 1st, and the lighting plot must be done on Sunday.
Yikes!
i should get off the darn computer, eh?

Amy, I love to hear about your work. I have directed in local community theatre, and have done stage design, and have done a little with the soundboard, but have never done lights.
It is so late now, I will check out your theatre thread tomorrow. I am sure things will go well for you throughout the weekend.
Nite everybody........
So pretty Vicky. Thanks for sharing.
Good to see everyone posting. Betty, good news. I was just thinking that two of the three occasions that you have spoken of blowing up the way that you are, the term barbecued ribs was in the same sentence. Sooo....your doc may just be right about greasy, oily and fatty goods. Bacon and sausage I would think you would need to cut out also. Anything fried wouldn't be good either. I know that those morning bacon and eggs sandwiches are great, but a steady diet of them is not good.
I stopped frying foods years ago. Not because I didn't like them, because I love them, but because of the mess that is left after fixing something in the frying pan. All of our meats and things are baked in the oven.
At my last doctor visit, she said that I am border line for high cholesterol. I will see her sometime in May and have the bloodwork checked again. If it is still high, she said we needed to start looking at taking medication. Oh gee, another pill, I do not need.
Anyway, getting ready to go out and do some planting here in a bit. John tells me that we are supposed to have rain tonight and tomorrow. The plants will love it.
Judy, i was taking some new plant pics for you yesterday and got a message on my camera that I had no more space on the memory stick. I had to order one from Sony Corp. I hope that my tulips are still in bloom when I get it. Anyway, gonna close this and then see if I can get the pictures on here.
I hope that everyone will hve a good day.
Ruby
Oh my gosh Liz Amazing. Our prices are going up steadily but not quite as far as yours. I just don't understand what people are supposed to do in terms of their finances. I heard a person saying a few weeks ago that it is taking them about two hundred dollars a week to keep their vehicle in fuel. Outrageous to say the least.
Ruby, how beautiful..love the photo's, you are so more advanced then we are..but then 4' of snow left only 2 weeks ago so should be thankful..
It's a glorious weekend..managing to accomplish mush of what was on my list (should have it all done by tomorrow mid-morning..sitting here wiping the sweat off my brown..have to go looking for those ice pellet neckbands/forehead bands I make, don't think I gave them all away..they keep you mighty cool on hot days..
It was in the high 70's yesterday and today..just the kind of weekend we've been longing for..
Well my 5 minute break is now over, off to dig the holes for the birdfeeders..
I did post a lengthly novel this morning and then LIz (lol) said 'look at our gas prices' did and voila my post did a cybre space exit...
Gita, not at all offended, I'm learning much..meant should I put them in containers of their own so they can grow more while being inside? know I hear of people saying they've put them in containers so wasn't sure if where they are is suitable enough..
Everyone else, do hope you are enjoying your day...
Be back on my next break...
Hi everyone. I've been working in KS all week and am trying to catch up on everything today. Betty hope your swelling is down and they can find out what's going on and fix it.
It started out cloudy today but is mostly sunny now and low 60's. A nice afternoon and supposed to be better tomorrow.
Ruby I got the seeds this morning when I went to pick up mail. Thanks so much! I will be careful, I promise.
got seeds too...Thanks Ruby!
Hugs to all.
Just came in, worked the entire day and am thrilled with my accomplishments...Bernice and Cliff were over..he gave me a hand to tie some of the cedar railing..doesn't look great now, need to dig up beds and fill with top soil, so now I must wait for topsoil so I can start my friendship flower garden...
Very tired now so I'm going to call it a night and start early in the a.m.
Do hope you've enjoyed today..
Best...heard from a friend whom I've not heard from in over a year, wasn't sure she was even alive..it's the best thing that could have happened today, tomorrow and next week..
Worse..bought a gazebo at HD last summer, had trouble/trouble with the screens, set had long and short panels anyway they said they'd get me a new set but didn't so today, HD manager from a different city gave me a tel.# for customer service..must be really down south because I couldn't understand her speaking, but the darling did call our HD and within an hour I got to go to Midland and pick up new screen set..they said they had problems, suggested I take it appart, bring it in and get my $$$ back..would, but it wakes so much to put them up so I'll try the new screens first..so lots of cursing and sweat to get nowhere..but, tomorrow will be a sunshine day..
What did I learn..not learn just brought again to the surface just how nice you all are..remember you are all special..love you all...
I am so sorry I haven't been posting this week. It s a tough week, but I really am doing fine. And thank you for all the D mails. I know you are there, and I do appreciate you.
I have spent a lot of time writing more articles, that takes me out of myself and into another time, so it is good for me.
I have worked a lot in the yard, but it rained today and so I ahve not done much of anything productive today. My wisteria, both trees are just about to pop they are so full of buds. I will get a photo tomorrow, it is a little dark now.....well, let me try...
OK, got some photos, back with them in a minute...
Sharon the wisteria is gorgeous. I'm envious! I planted 1 on either side of a big arbor year before last and am so hoping they will bloom this year.
This is what you see as you step out of the car , it is right beside the driveway so I don't put many big things there. this is iris, fennel, butterfly bush, ivy in a sort of mound, ornamental grasses and some late blooming hosta peeping up.
that's it for tonight...maybe more tomorrow from the back yard. Cat, i have another wisteria in back, too....same size, lots of blooms.
Y'all take care.
Nothing smells like wisteria. Did you plant them or were they already there? I thought about a tree but my son made me an arbor so I settled for that
I stuck a stick in the ground and it grew. truly, that is how I started. the front one that you see was wrapped around a broom stick for several years then i just kept winding it around itself till it stood alone.
the one in back is very similar. I'll get a photo of it tomorrow.
actually you can see a photo of it in one of my early articles, the one about feeding birds on hand made wreaths.....anyway, it is listed on my home page toward the bottom. It wasn't blooming then, though.
I am enjoying all your articles by the way! :-) You have a real talent for writing!
Thanks, Cath...writing them gives me something to think about besides my todays, you know? I am having to dig into my yesterdays for all that information and it keeps me from worrying about other things.
I have my mom's cedar chest which I had not opened in years, it is just in one of the unused bedrooms and I have a lamp and quilts on top of it. but I got into it to find some of Mother's recipes for the articles, and found a ton of stuff from the past that I had really forgotten.
So that is what I am doing on this dreaded week.
I don't handle things like everybody else, I guess...maybe I should walk around in tears and just cry my heart out, but if I did, I am afraid I wouldn't be able to ever pull myself out of it. So I look for other directions, and the articles are my other direction. As long as I have a goal in front of me, I don't spend too much time looking back.
But thanks for remembering and for caring. with every day, I start my day by thinking of this time last year, this very day last year..I have done that since the 17th, which is the day we got Bob into the hospital. He lasted only 5 days, so I have to get through3 more days of remembering. So far so good. I am OK
I am going to meet Bob's best friend for dinner tomorrow night. It might be harder on him than on me, but I guess we will do what we have to do.
Anyway....really I am fine, thank you for caring. Ruby, my dear, i got the seeds and it sure did brighten my day. You are a sweetheart. Darius and I have been corresponding, and I had forgotten that she had stayed with you recently until she asked me if I knew you, and she told me how gracious you were. I assured her that I know you are a sweetie, and everybody loves you. So thanks for the seeds. I am going to put a couple of mine in a huge pot, the others in the ground.
Nite again ladies, hope your day was good.
