Well look at the time, had hoped they'd leave early but NOT..it's ok, one finished her tree plaque, another only has about 2 hrs. left and her lighthouse muskoka chair will be complete, Shawnee is doing a royal dalton ceramic figurine, Rita is doing a fireplace insert..2 others are doing floormats and another came to do prep work..so they had me hopping..lol..

Been a long day..

Best...hmmm...the weather, just went outside to say goodbye and it was still mild out..
Worse...bought the same book twice...
What did I learn today??? difference between ants and termites... (thanks to Gita)...

Been a long day, mighty tired, morning comes soon so night/night...

betty, dh has a question now if you look at the seam at the orange wing..
he is confused do you solder all around the silver tape or just at the joint seams????
seem to be having problems with the wings being bendable after they are soldered :(

Betty----

And--EVERYONE is asking YOU--"How in the World do you find the energy to do all you do????". How do YOU Know so much??? The tools! The projects?.....

It is because what you do is what you LOVE to do!

I LOVE to pass on information--and I DO read gardening articles and books (at work). I subscribe to Martha Stewart magazine and she has some amazing photos in there. I have worked in Greenhouses and for Growers and have listened to Allan Summers go on and on about all kinds of Gardening issues for 125 some years. I just absorb all thislike a sponge----it will all be there when I need it.....
I would rather page through a gardening publication than anything else--BUT--most of my learning has been hands on and me NEVER being shy about asking questions. I "pump" people for information--if I think they know more than I do on something I would like to know more on. Say that 3 times fast......

However--I think maybe my biggest "gift" is retaining all kinds of less-known, trivial information about almost anything. Then--in any given conversation--I can just flip through the "files" in my brain and have an answer--on the spot. That is, probably WHY, my new Manager wants me out in garden holding clinics and answering peoples questions. He sees that in me!

Also, Betty, I have hardly held any jobs that did not have to do with gardening, greenhouses, growing plants, and--most of all-Houseplants, as I have been the Head of the Houseplant Dept. in two very large stores for a total of 10 years.

I have also had termite coverage (but never any termites--so gave it up, as it was starting to cost me too much $$$), so I have seen all the literature on these critters and have retained all this information.....I just seem to remember.....

SO! What else can I dazzle you with????????.........:o)

You made my day, Betty! I so crave to be appreciated and recognized......

Gita--shyly hanging her head.........Yeah, right!

Morning, quick post till I get to work..

Liz, I put the tape all around the edge of the spoon - reason for that is the tape just put where you have has no strength..perhaps it might not look as pretty, but it will sustain the weight..and that way will allow me to put a little coiled piece for the tail..also by instead of them being flat,if you support them when soddering and overlap the wings slightly less pulling on the spoon edge will occur..

hope you can see the angle..doesn't have to be a lot..just slight angle..

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

This is the entire spoon foiled and then I solder around the entire wings giving a little bead of solder at outer edge..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Forgot the photo..

Edited to read:

also liz, you will see I have cut and twisted a piece of wire to create a hanger..both sides of the circle are soldered into the wings, that will also give it strength and then just at the beginning of the tail of the spoon I put another wire circled so that when I want to hang it with clear fishing thread I'll be able to place it at the angle I want it to hang...

Good morning all. I am getting a very late start today. I was up all night nearly just sitting here reading all the forums that I subscribe to. I laid back down about 6 AM and slept a couple of hours. I am having a cup of hot tea and will then get dressed and head outside to enjoy some of the beautiful weather that we are supposed to have today. I am going to finally plants some bare roots that I got last week, plus some caladium that I bought last week. I received 4 pretty healthy Heuchera plants on Tuesday and they need to go in the ground. I did some planting last week, so I want to give them all a good drink of water today. It is not supposed to rain until Saturday and that is no guarantee.

Some of you should be receiving your packets of beans from me. Just think, something from my yard will be planted all around the nation and even across the borders. So cool. Betty, you asked about starting them indoors. Yes, that is fine. Do you have a warm place to sit them? Or a sunny window? I cannot remember anyone giving me particular instructions on planting them and I believe that all I did to get them started was to plant them an inch to two inches in soila nd it wasn't too very long before they started to sprout. If I remember correctly, they come up rather quickly, but I guess that is also dependent on the amount of sun and warmth that they get.

I sent each person ten beans. I would plant some extras in case some of them don't germinate. I will be planting mine in large outdoor pots this year. They will look great on my deck.

Anyway, here is hopeing that everyone has a great day!!!!

Ruby

Well Tractor has been picked up..I hove shovelled several wheelbarrow loads of soil.
Need a quick break.
Gita..Interesting to learn all about your knowledge and how you hold it in your head to use later.
I have a question for you.
If it is possible could you find out if the John Deere riding mowers that Home Depot sells are any good. I have read that they are made with inferior parts..and then I read the the 100 series is exactly the same as the John Deere dealers. Of course Home Depots prices are much less expensive than at the dealer.
Any chance you have picked up info on that?
My little GX75 riding mower is 12 years old..just a 30" cut but small enough to get around trees and through small spaces. I love it..but they don't make them anymore.
I am hoping mine will last after they find out what is wrong with it..but just in case it isn't worth fixing..or..or...

Thanks..
time to get back out there..I am also having a friend come from Montreal today ..and stay overnight on her way back from Toronto...so better get some work done so we can relax later and enjoy this lovely day.

Bye for now..
C.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Starzz,

I really don't know anything about the John Deere tractors. Why would they be made from inferior parts???? HD has a good reputation for selling first class machinery--in my opinion. I can say that--because if something is wrong (within a reasonable time) HD will send it out to be repaired or give you a new one.

If you could give me any specific questions, I will ask the garden man there.

This year, we also sell Cub Cadette Tractors.

I am sure that there may be regional differences as to what stores stock.

It's a beautiful day here today! Getting up into the 70's! Can't wait to play outside!

Wasn't able to get online last night - just too pooped after the hectic day. Kids to the dentist (DD has 2 small cavities - DS, none (which is amazing!!); Took Murphy to the vet. he has allergies and a yeast infection in his left ear. Got ear meds plus giving him Benadryl twice a day. Will probably be taking him in shortley to get his mouth xrayed as one of his big molars is missing. Not sure if it fell out as a pup or if it's lodged down in his jaw. Anyway, if it's stuck down there, we need to get it removed to eliminate any probs in the future. While he's drugged up for that, we're going to get his hips xrayed to be on the safe side. His hips, eyes and heart were all certified thru the breeder but it's good to have a set of xrays if something comes up in the future. We will also get his nails trimmed way down because he does not like having them clipped and it is like fight a bull when that time comes. Hopefully, getting them trimmed way down and cauterized will buy us (and him) some time! Afte vet, went to DS's baseball game. They won 17-3. They finally called the game at 2 hrs. DS pitched for 1 inning and while he threw some great pitches, I know he was very nervous! After 2 games he's batting a 1000 (seriously!).

So didn't get home until around 9:00. Had to wash my hair after being outside in the pollen. Will have to do that each night for the next week or so until it's all gone or pay the price come morning from sleeping on a pollen filled pillow!

We have friends coming over for dinner Saturday and I plan on grilling some beef tenderloins I bought and froze. Hope they are good. Any ideas for side dishes? Something easy but good and not too heavy & fattening. I could just steam or grill some veggies. Hopefully the weather will be good so we can eat on the porch. This whole weekend will be packed: grocery store, hair, baseball & friends for dinner on Sat and have to drive down to Va Beach Sunday to surprise DH's father who is coming into town. Somewhere in there I'll need to get laundry done. UGH!

Hey - I have been told about a "Carnival Cruise to Nowhere" that takes place Oct 11-13. It leaves out of Norfolk, Va and just goes out to sea for 2 days. I'm going to do it with some girlfriends. Anyone else interested? Here's the link:

http://travel.travelocity.com/cruise/CruiseRequest.do?cruiseVendor=9&resSt=&pagerIndex=&resultsIndex=0&lead_price=319.00¤cy=USD>Cty=&cruiseId=5592&promolink=&deckId=&pPc=&action_code=Continue&price=&srRt=

We could do a DG get-together to "nowhere!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

WOW Jeannine, just have to figure out how long it take me to get to your place and hoping there is not snow..of course there wouldn't be snow..now wouldn't that be the greatest... hmmmm

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Yes, it would!!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm off to 'mapquest' to see the mileage...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well Jeannine, it's quite a hike..595 miles sooooo probably about a 12 hr. drive...

Forgot to tell you all, Suzanne got notification that she passed her 'Paralegal' exam..she's thrilled..

Girls out to the bank and running late so not sure if we'll have an early lunch or late lunch...

Crozet, VA

Jeannine - I would love to do something like this and have some DG'ers join in. What will the cruise do? Just sail around the area for two days or what? I would like to know more. I didn't fill in the questions on the page that link took me to. If I fill them out, will it give me more information then?

Glenview, IL

Hi,
Well day is almost over, whew...can't wait till this project is done. LOL it's simple but a major pain.

Carol, you have been really busy in the gardens. Geeze hope you get your tractor fixed. Oh my gosh you'll probably sleep like a baby.

Ruby, Up all night reading, I have done that a time or two, LOL it's addicting once you get started. Did you all your posting done too? Now, A fantastic idea to decorate the deck. I have a very large deck that could use some plants of a large size, I think I will do the same.

Ves, Woohoo, how exciting you received your seeds...can't wait to see if i have too, my that was pretty quick huh?

GG, Sounds like your day was super busy! So happy for DS, thats great.
Your cruise sounds like it will a load of fun. 2 days to nowhere, cool!
hmmm, maybe if i start walking now, LOL will get there in time. You will have fun.

Liz, You did a fantastic job on the butterfly! Very pretty.

Well got a busy night ahead of me so will say good night.
Hope you all have a great evening. See you tomorrow.

Betty, will be sending up some prayers for you. Will check in all day to hear what doc has to say. Hope it can be treated quickly.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Know it's early but I'm off to bed..do hope that some of you who have the evening ahead of you - enjoy it...

night/night - sweet dreams..

Pacifica, CA

ruby, thank you so much got the seeds today

will be back later

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Guys that sickness that I was fighting a few weeks ago just snatched me up and devoured me so that is why I have not posted. I hope Betty has some news about her status with the surgury thing, I will have to go to the prayer forum and see what is up.

hugs

Crozet, VA

Wow, things are as quiet on here as I have ever seen them. Easy reading this morning.

Yippie, for those who received the beans. Judy, just remember to use large, large pots for the castor beans. The should grow to at the very least, four feet tall and almost as wide.

Everyone will have to take pictures later on in the summer for me so see their baby's did.

We are heading in to the weekend. I hope that everyone will have a good one.

Ruby

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes it is very quiet, guess everyone has a lot on their mind or a lot of yard duty..but some of us will keep plugging keeping the door open till they arrive home..

I'm getting together a few things to go to the post office this morning, a stop at Home Depot and TG Remnants for a zipper for gazebo cover, Doctor's then home I come..

Will be a quiet weekend, Melanie is off to Meaford with the boys for the weekend, she,mom and sister do a spa weekend (compliments of her dad at Christmas) so Kyle and Noah will spend weekend with Grandpa, Greg will be working on the pool and yard but says he'll be over for Sunday supper...as for Jeff the boys joined lacross and will be having a game either tomorrow or Sunday but will try to come up north for a short visit...so the family is all busy (could it be that grandma has a list a mile long for them to do?) lol

I've several things that are on my agenda for the weekend..I accomplish so much more when I put it in writting then if I don't get it done I know I've been lax and wasted my time away...

Must put a finishing coat on the lighthouse, do faux flowers out of the window boxes on it and it's ready to be set at the pond

The gazebo top is difficult to take off and put on in it's present manner so I'll redesign it with a zipper, closure and velcro

Few pieces I made for the garden need to be 'prettied' up and positioned in the garden...

Have the mailbox which will hold my tools sketched out, would love to finish painting it..

Get bases painted for the birdhouses, cement them in the ground and work on my friendship garden - removing the sod so that when top soil arrives it won't be as difficult

Would like to get the old rails cut and set each end of the garden shed so I can set out my climbers...

Want to see if the grape vine is still flexible enough to make 3 or 4 wreaths to make into a trellis

And in the evening when I'm all pooped out, need to design what will be on the wooden windows I've cut for the back shed

So if I accomplish at least 3/4 of what I've posted above by the time Monday morning rolls around, I'll have achieved my 'weekend' goal...

Sometimes I wonder if I'm all there..lol

Gita, here are your babies, still doing well..

I'm here with my coffee..body is very achy this morning LOL
Yesterday was such a great day..and I got lots done.

My friend has delayed her time in Toronto..and is supposed to becoming today..so yesterday I just kept at the garden chores. It was so wonderful to be outside all day.
Then I came in had a hot bubble bath and collasped on the couch ..watched Survivor..and fell asleep.

I have to download a couple of photos I took yesterday..

Morning Carol,

Bet your yard looks spiffy..one Friday aft. as I get off at 1pm I'll call and perhaps come over for tea and then make my way home..would be a nice drive and I'm just dying to see your garden...can imagine just how tired you are but it's a nice tired, one of accomplishment..took a little stroll around mine this morning and am amazed with how much growth occured this past week, think it was a plus that I raked the back garden last Sunday although apprehensive about it..

Today you can relax and enjoy your friend visiting...

Well one more photo as per Gita's request..
These Gita are sunflowers, would you think they are big enough to transplant (inside of course) into yet another bigger container??? new at this, need guidance..lol

Gita..
Thank for your reply about the John Deere riding mowers.

The main thing I would like to know is if the JD riding mowers sold by Home Depot are the same quality as the ones sold by the John Deere dealers. I was told by a dealer salesperson that some of the parts that are on the Home Depot ones are plastic..where the ones sold by the Dealer are metal...
hence the lower price on the JD's from Home Depot.

But really I probably will just carry on with my little one. I am sure they will be able to fix it. It is a 30" cut and can get into the small spaces and around trees and such. I sure wish they still made these small ones.

This is a photo of it with a friends daughter on it at apple picking time.

Ok..so here is the Triple mix pile I am working on...I am splitting it with my neighbour...so just have to move half of it.
Part of it is to slope the earth away from the edge of the house so the water runs away. You can see a bit beside the house I have done ...and yesterday I got the back part of the house done where there is no deck in the way. Then I will top up the flower beds.

Betty..isn't it fun to see the seedlings.
I have some growing too.

GG..your schedule sure is busy..
Liz..I had a visit from a raccoon last night too..pot is knocked over...and the night before one was on the deck..but they only come late at night.

Hi Everyone!..another nice day today..

So I have a question for you all.
This flower is in a bouquet from a florist. It is my neighbour's.
Do you know what it is?
Could it be a large Lisianthus?
Anyone know about florist flowers? I told her I would ask you all.
I talk about you all to her..she is not a computer person..but she and I are very close..and especially now in the summer we have coffee together often.

Thanks,
Carol

morning all,

jeannine , been meanning to tell you, omg murphy is so funny!! bet he thought he hit the bonanza... how is he feeling now? how are you doing with your allergies better?

vicki, i know aboth the duck droppings lol they would come in the back door and drop on the hardwood floor yuck! got smart last year i started feeding them on the lawn boy did they ever make a mess seems like i just spent all of my time out there cleanning up after them, how are things with you?

betty, been meaning to tell you the birdhouse dinner is so cute, gosh im so far behind in everything!! guess im getting a stress level right now! cant focus on anything much, well dh is going to start something just awful! but it is a long over due point...
you know that every weekend we go to the inlaws, dh works around the house and does everything for them, well to see this place it is pittiful so much neglect.
dh realizes that he cant do it all himself so he is going to present his case to his sister that she needs to alternate with him and go up there everyother weekend and give up her selfish life!!
betty, now dont get me wrong, love them to death, but why cant she do anything she gets off scott clean not having to do a thing? and then when she go's up there she stays for breakfast, visits for two hours and leaves...
so this will turn into a nasty war can guarantee it, so thats been on my mind just dont know when he will finally say something?
seedlings are comming up nice to see they will be happy in the ground soon
hope the boys can get all on your list done, wow look at all the things to accomplish for you wow you are going to be busy!! how is your tummy doing did the swelling go down?
ruby am going to start the seeds this weekend im so excited!! so know that the castor bean is toxic, but once established it is ok right? this will determine wheather i plant it out frount or out back..

gita, same question for you on dantura??i have the two dogs and i dont want to put anything out back that can harm them.

omg judy, you ok did you feel the quake? know you phone was down left you a message :)

carol, love that picture, that is a cute little mower drive it here i'll take it off your hands lol

shar, how are you doing enjoying the sun
hello to laura, gilli, cat, amy ,doc rachel, tropi,

dawn, hope your feeling better

everyone have a wonderful day

Pacifica, CA

crossed posts carol, did i forget to tell you i sent them out your way lol watch out for the one holding its right paw up lol

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Betty,

Your seedlings look leggy/spindly! Do you have a shop light 2" from their tops? If seedlings don't get good light to them--they grow like that. Are you providing them fluorescent light a couple of inches above the flats? For ALL the seedlings!

No. Your Sunflowers are not ready to put outside. From what I can tell in the picture, they don't even have their true leaves yet. Need about 2-3 sets of true leaves before they can go outside. What is your frost-free date there? Ours is May 10th and you are 2 zones colder than we--so I will guess maybe end of May?

Starzz--
I will print out your Post and take it with me to work and ask the garden Supervisor about the tractors. I am not holding my breath that anyone would actually know the answer.....

As for the Daturas (and all Morning Glories, Moon Vines, and such)---ALL parts of these are toxic IF ingested. I always wash my hands after I handle the leaves and ESPECIALLY when you start collecting seeds from the mushy seed-pods. Is your dog likely to eat plants? The Daturas have somewhat of a foul odor if you crush a leaf. maybe animals would smell that and stay away?

I cannot ID the flower in the arrangement. It is beautiful, though! Most flowers Florists get come from South America--so who knows what that is???? Could your neighbor call the Florist and ask? Let me know if you find out.

82 degrees coming up today. I'll be back out in the Garden plugging away....
I think we are all busy in the gardens at his time, Betty. Just so many Spring chores to do--Reading your list, I think you know all about that.

Betty--I will resend the "Two years old" attachment to your home e-mail. Look for it! It contains a video--maybe that is why you could not open it at work.

Good Morning!!! The weekend is almost here!!! YEAH - although mine will be busy, busy, busy! It's going to be another beautiful day here today - high in the 80's!

Liz, Murphy survived the cupcake escapde and had no ill effects. I have been diligent in taking my Zyrtec and wash my hair each night so my head has been fine (sinuses, that is!).

Hopefully, work will be slow today and I can leave early and work from home. It's too pretty to be inside! Funny thing is, on days like this, everybody goes to lunch and no one comes back!

Well, I will try and check back in later. Betty - you take care of yourself and let us know what the doc says!!

Hugs to all,
Jeannine

Pacifica, CA

judy, must be a california news thing they got you people out there in in a panic glad your ok and didnt feel a thing! you didnt miss anything just a big rush of" omg what just happened" lol

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

I stopped in yesterday. Not much going on so read all. Went shopping yesterday and stocked up on some of the sales. Have to make the money go as far as it can.

Will be busy this weekend. Son and his SO might be up. Maybe get them to help with a couple of things? LOL

Betty that is quite a busy weekend planned. Just don't forget to post pictures of it all. Will be waiting to see how the appointment goes.

Liz I keep putting some stuff off. For some reason things keep multiplying. So it should be a busy weekend for me. We got some rain yesterday and last night. Things should start greening up here. Just let your DH handle the situation. But back him up as needed. Family is not always fun!

Carol nice mower. DH wants a JD but of course he needs a big one. Which will have to wait now that we are getting the wood stove. That's alot of dirt to move. I mean soil! LOL We should do that around our house. Right now there are to many other projects.

Judy hope your thoughts are getting where you want to be. Does that make sense? If not I hope you get a good chuckle out of it.

Jeannine I haven't checked our weather yet. But I would be happy with 65 degrees again but on my day off! I keep asking if I can leave work and they say NO! A person has to try! LOL Hope you get everything done this weekend. LOve Murphy!

Gita Love your memory. My DB could read something and would always remember what he read. Gosh he was smart. Whenever you mention you can do that it reminds me of him. Thank you. I can remember some things I read or hear but not to that extent. It is quite the gift.

Dawn hope you are feeling better and have a good weekend.

Got to go. Plenty to do before I go to work.

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Hi all,
Gita...
I am sure it is a lisianthus now..
I pulled up images from florist sites and they use them quite a bit and saw pics exactly as this looks.
Funny when something just niggles at your mind wondering..the computer is a marvelouss things.

Thanks so much for thinking about my J Deere question.

LOL Liz..you can have your raccoons back..he knocked over the little pump in the pond too..will have to anchor it with rocks..
so I am off to play..
