Yes, great news Robin!
What have you bought so far?? Pt.5
Finally starting to recieve my plant orders. Three asters from Burpee arrived Monday were a bit of a surprise as I cancelled them in Jan. Got to keep them no-charge. Recieved two baby spuces from Song sparrow, Rainbow's end and Daisy white end of last week. I'm sure I'll be old and gray when they grow up. And yesterday recieved asparugus, concord grape, and rasberry plant from Millers. Should have today more asters from Territorial Seed. Now just waiting on a big order from High Country. Will be a busy weekend --as usual.
Wha- 'Shirazz' is on sale at a local nursery for $219. I'm contemplating getting it as soon as my "spend more money from the government" arrives in my checking account.
Here is my most recent DL order that I won on the lilyauction. This order is from Northernlights Daylilies.
The pics are of a DF clump (double fan) and the middle and right pic are SF (single fan) clumps:
L--'Moments Rich in Blessing'
M--'Swan Lake Braid'---bonus!
R--'Lyrical Ballad'
Thom, you're gonna have so much fun this year!!!!
Oh nice! I agree you are going to be a planting fool. The pics of all your hard work are going to be spectacular. :)
I'm running out of pots and deck space...lol.
Still waiting on the soil to be delivered, and the mulch. Over the next few weeks, the other 7 wins from the lilyauction will be arriving, along with my Oake's DL order, and my Ensata order. lol.
Then, that will conclude my orders that I have outstanding.
I might have some nice pots for sale (giveaway) at the end of this season. To date, I have purchased almost 45 of the .88 cent ones from Wal-Mart.
I will be using them until the plants I have in them are up and running, then transplant everything once the soil is in and I have the soaker hoses in, and the mulch is waiting near by.
That's just the bed I'm making. The veggie garden might be on hold until next year :-(
The delivery charges for the mulch and soil jumped A LOT. Last year, it was about $20 for mulch to be delivered, this year, it's $35...It's being delivered in Scranton, by a Scranton place! The soil...lol...that's almost a $70 charge...lol. But that's from about an hour away.
The things we do for our gardens!
The things we do is CRAZY. I don't really have flowers planted outside to speak of. OK I have a veggie garden and sell veggies. I have just about everything seeded or germinating that I am going to sell or use myself for veggies.
I have 14 packages of Beef Steak Seeds left - dumb blonde.
Hemhostaholic I would go get the Shirazz in anticipation of the refund. Mine is starting to leaf out and if it looks like it is suppose to it may not be there. $219 is a good price as well, I spent $260 after MA tax.
Looks great, Pat. I just finished planting my GC order. Bill and Thom, I'm guessing Shirazz will be cheaper by fall and certainly by next spring so I'm holding off. Please post pics of yours throughout the seasons - thanks. Thom, so nice of Lily Auction to throw in the can of corn. With ethanol, corn is so $$ these days! ^_^
I got my email saying my garden crossings order was shipped yesterday... can't wait
I am very excited as I just picked up at our only real nursery on Nantucket a nice 3-4' Acer palmatum var. dissectum 'Inaba Shidare' for the low end of my endless stream and big witch hazel, Hamamelis vernalis - 8' for a spot next to a big stand of clethra.
I would like to have had more to chose from, but many of the J.Maple were huge and with a price to match. I would have needed one of the tree planters and a job to get one. I will order some small ones to add after I do some reading. Victor gave me some good ideas.
Best news is that we found another place that the stream was leaking from, so it is getting better. Still losing a little water, but now I think we can find it. It was along the upper sides so we have not had to dig up much.
Victor, how is your pond pump?
My Chamblee rose order arrived as did a nice order from Avant as well as a coop order of plugs that I have now potted up in cow pots. I hope they moooooove them to make great root systems.

Next week we will be heading off island with the truck to pick up potting soil and other heavy bulky necessities as well as flats of plant goodies that we always get from a few of our fav mainland nurseries in May. But I have so many seedling started that I may not need as much as normal, but I know there won't be an inch in the truck when we come home. We also are taking the truck off for another load up on Memorial day weekend, but that will be mostly staples for the pantry and fire wood. But a few plants no doubt will jump on board.
Thom, I can't wait to see all you plants in situ. It seems like a huge project. Patti
Great new about Grant Douglas.
Back to tag making.
All the talk about Garden Crossing is tempting me, but no I can't do any more mail orders this spring!
Please note the operative word is "mail". Patti
Congrats on the JM, Patti. That's a nice one. Lots of work for you! My pump is no good. I took it out and tested it with an insulation tester and it failed. I just ordered a replacement.
Victor, Dang, you could have bought a couple great shrubs. How about the leak? And what is shirazz? I think I drink a lot of it. Patti
Patti follow the link to Shirazz.

Have fun planting everything - look slike you are very busy!!
I have a question about space for Heleborus niger.
Instructions say part shade part sun.
I would like to put three in front of the Hydrangea space is 12-14 inches deep and 4-5 feet long.
The light requirements are right at this time but when the hyg . leafs out it will be all shade as those forward branches come almost to the black edging.
I would put them somewhere where I could enjoy the foliage.
OK the part sun part shade garden.
Thanks Victor(:-
well my garden crossings order came today... one plant to my surprise doesn't look too good.. eco-friendly plug might not be a good thing

Let them know. I was not hot on that idea.
if it doesn't make it i will.... i know they are good with replacements if they fail... i had ordered three mothers day baskets last year... one flipped over in the box and the plants where a mess... they replaced the whole thing without a problem
I didn't get the decision to do plugs when their whole idea to go into business in the first place was to offer larger sizes! 'Green' peer pressure.
A lot of the companies I deal with are going to the eco friendly plugs, and I'm not crazy about them.
I like the idea, but not the product so far.
I wonder if Garden Crossings didn't go into the smaller pots due to the cost of the larger ones and the people not spending the money for the larger ones.
I just don't see how people can buy a lot of plants at the current prices. especially including shipping. The experts say to plant in threes, but who can afford many plants at 3 for 36.00 or so.
It would sure be hard to fill a garden at those prices.
I thought it was kind of ironic that they shipped eco friendly plugs inside a plastic container
I bought my first plant this week - an echinacea augustifolia, a native variety.
I lost count
Jo Ann
I bought some of my annuals - Geranium and some small plugs for my strawberry pots.
Onewish, I was admiring your mini greenhouse. I would love a real greenhouse, but I make due with my portable coldframe - http://www.littlegreenhouse.com/flowerhouse-starter.shtml - it fits perfectly over my two raised beds http://www.gardeners.com/Grow%20Beds/VegetableGardening_RaisedBeds,34-381RS,default,cp.html . I can start some of my vegetables earlier and also harden off tender annuals.
Nice.
What makes a plug more eco-friendly than a larger plant?
I love "Tinkerbell" Celeste! The azalea is beautiful too. I think I want more azaleas in my yard. Gotta get rid of the black vine weevils first.
Looks like a nice useful cold frame Anita. Thanks for the links.
Two good purchases there I agree Celeste. Very pretty azalea.
received my high country garden order today. everything arrived healthy although I thought the plants would be larger. The purple dome aster is slightly smaller than the three I accidently recieved from Burpee's, it was $1 cheaper.
Kniphofia Caulescens
Aster
Gaillarda Arizona Sun & Fanfair
Lavandula England, sharon roberts, buena vista, hidcote giant
Penstemon Pseudospect burgandy beauty
Salvia Blue & Blue flame
Agasta Ava
Perovskia Atril Blue spires
Nepeta Faassenii Slect blue
All of these are pretty much going into a new bed I'll finish tomorrow. It will be the blue bed with some purple. I'll get pics of these tomorrow morning.
The 20 yards of dirt is down to 7 or so and will be used up to finish the blue bed, build another for the 50 asparagus (did not realize they have to be 18" apart have to do some serious reconstruction), and 15 rasberry plants. If any is left over i'll ammend a bed where I have lilacs that struggle due the dust they live in.
oh and I bought three Rody's Nova Zemba to replace three that died (they were new last year)due to lazy watering habits. And had the first drop of 10 yds. of mulch today. Can't back out of the garage without a 3 or 4 point turn right now. There will be pressure from the wife to clear a path for her side of the driveway.
azlea is pretty Pixie
Busy weekend ahead, Bill! Yes, that azalea is very nice. I've noticed some nibbling damage on my azalea for the first time ever. It's on my white ones, about to bloom in the next few days. I never sprayed them since they were never bothered.
