DG Names.....What's your real name??

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Hiya Cyndie!

You asked: Do they still have folk concerts in the Nelson Town Hall?

No. Unfortunately they don't any longer. We have lived here just a little over three years, and the Town Hall is usually used for large school functions and large town functions.

It's nice to see you on this thread!
Welcome!

Hello Everyone!
I am from the northeast coast of Maine. It's called DownEast Maine. Sometimes zone 5a, 5b, or even 4 (depends on the wind and the sea).

Hello people - especially those of you who are new to me, and the other way around. I'm including a link to an article I wrote a few months ago that was supposed to be an introduction to Dave's Garden, for those of you (and sometimes that's all of us) still feeling your way around. xx (blowing kisses), Carrie

More newcomers - welcome! This is a great forum with lots of fun and interesting threads. The people are great and so helpful, too. In fact, there are many excellent forums on DG that you'll find something to be involved with all the time. Hope to see you posting. - Lynn

Victor - how do I make just the list a sticky? Eleanor

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Eleanor - start a new thread and paste the list as the post. Then ask admin to make it a sticky and to un-stick this one. hanks for all your effort!!

You two should have an act of your own!

BTW, when I'm answering posts OFF the North East forum, please don't be offended if I don't use your "real" name, even if i know what it is and you know perfectly well I know what it is, and I know perfectly well you know I know what it is. Like Michaela, when you posted on my article today, I a) didn't want to blow your cover and b) more importantly, don't want to confuse newer-than-newbies who might be reading the articles. So if I DON'T use your name in a more public setting, it's not meant as an insult, it's just that I'm trying to be kind to newcomers who might not yet even be members, let alone subscribers. xx, Carrie

Central, ME(Zone 5a)

Hi Everyone! It's great to have everyone in one place. Sort of like a roll call.

Candyce, Sorry to hear that there are no longer any concerts. The Peterborough Folk organization used to have them. I really liked that part of the country.

Pixie- My greenhouse made it- It spent the winter in the garage. ;) Time to get it up and in use. Do you have anything in yours yet?

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Hello All!

Just returned from 10 days in Upstate NY - weather was great, rain, cold, sun and heat -- ya gotta love it! I wish I was still there!

Was able to fit in some bed cleaning, pruning of dead branches, etc., not as much as I wanted, but a limited amount of time to spend in garden.....

Carrie, I might need medication to understand that name post thingy. Does this mean we are incognito here? What will happen if someone leaks our names? Eleanor might be sitting on a goldmine here!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hi Audrey. Beautiful shot!

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Hi Victor! Its a beautiful place - miles of trails, canoeing in the summer, snowshoes and cross-country skiing in the winter, all varities of plants and animals......

I'm already homesick...............

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

What would anyone do with a list of first names?

Southern Dutchess Co, NY(Zone 5b)

Good question!

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I only mean that (using Michaela as an example) i presume that if she wanted to be Michaela she would have had her DG name be Michaela too, not Seandor.

Why doesn't everyone use their "real" names? I used mine because I had a few different screen names at different sites and kept getting confused as to who I was at which site. So the day I became a member here, I said shove this and signed up with my ordinary name.

But people who aren't subscribers, I believe, cannot see this forum. So if Pleasedon'tcallmefred answered a post and i said Oh, hi Fred and he said "I asked you not to call me that" and I only knew his name was Fred from this Forum, I would feel bad. It mostly comes up when people are posting to the quizzes/polls, or posting to articles I've written. Maybe ABigSlob doesn't know Sofonisba is Harper. I don't want to be the one to tell the world that she's Harper; I guess that's for her to do. Maybe others feel differently. I'm only saying - don't be offended.

Also, those other spots, the quizzes and the articles, are where we draw in a lot of new folks who might post in a conversational way. I don't want to confuse them further by using different names than what they see posted.

People like me, and Al, Victor, David, ROBIN, Sue, are easy enough. But Celeste/Pixie, Arlene/Pirl, Dulcigarden/Soris are really an upper level course! Don't worry if I left you out - I had to refer to the list just to come up with those eight names!!!!

Ah, maybe know what to the next baby? Perhaps write a definitive text called, "First Names of the Mostly From N.E."? Be esoteric and compile a list of popular gardening names by state? I'm seeing a number of million dollar opportunities here in the down turn.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

LOL LOL

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

What to name the next baby.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

DAVE

Southern Dutchess Co, NY(Zone 5b)

I have found that when applying for a screen name, very often that name has already been taken, therefore we are stuck trying to come up with something appropriate with who we really are. If it's frustrating for you, it's doubly frustrating for those of us who must choose something on the fly. It isn't always our fault that we can't register with our own first names! And how many Kathys or Daves or Johns can there be?

- Lynn

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

See I'm being cross posted here, but I agree. I tried to register as just plain Laurel and all the variants. Terry was great about responding, but it was a no can do.

Name the next baby Dave? I'm done with that naming thing although Dave was my very favorite always "if I had a boy what would I name him" name. I still melt when I hear the name David. We have two boys and didn't name either David. We have Adam, which means "first son" and Seth who was the third son of Adam and Eve until Cain slew Abel. Seth then became the second son as our Seth did. So Seth means second son, or compensation. He's been a great compensation :).

Audrey, that's a lovely photo.....I can feel the serenity!! Glad you enjoyed your 10 days....I would have too!!

Laurel - you are cracking me up again......LOL

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

Actually, having two babies in one year was great compensation, according to our accountant. He was the only one with an ear to ear grin!!! My OB called them our Irish twins! Our parents did not see the humor as they were liberals=WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!!! Oh, reminds me, must check in on primaries. Hope all you PA folks went out and voted today (for the right stuff).

Laurel,
had baby #1 Jan. 1978
#2 July 1979
#3 July 1980
#4 July 1982
#5 Oct. 1987

My Mother who had 7 live births and 2 miscarriages thought I was nuts!!! Excuse me...where did I get THAT FROM??????

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No big - as I've said before, my grandmother had 15 - had 18 pregnancies!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Laurel - I once worked with a woman who had two sets of twins during the same calender year AND school year so all four were in the same class. I get tired just thinking about what her days must have been like.

My sister had 6 in 7 years. Thank God I didn't inherit that ability.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Isn't it odd the first 5 - 10 times they say how many pregnancies and write it down and then look up and say and how many live births? Then you get used to it. My mother was 4/4, so I was totally unprepared to be 4/2. (Four pregnancies, four births. Four pregnancies, two births.) xx, Carrie

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

After the 3rd one it's all the same.....you just say "What's one more?"
Back in the old days it was common to have huge families...especially if they were Catholic.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

My mom was 13/4. (Catholic)
