I just looked at the dahlia milk carton thing...that's pretty inventive...lol. I also clicked onto the hyper link, on the hyperlink...lol, to view the easy to make indoor greenhouse...that's something I can actually handle!

Since this is my first year really ordering from some different places...do these companies that everyone is posting on always ship this well, or is this a recent trend? The Sooner order, the Fairweather order, my personal Forest Farm order, have all been shipped beyond anything I've ever received before. Just wondering if this is a new thing, or something that these companies are improving on from listening to customer input, or is it possible that this site is actually having a direct impact on them? It's a good think, I'm not knocking it...just thinking out loud.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Fairweather always shipped like that, Thom. Large staples, strings, tape, hefty boxes, etc. Very nice, Anita! Don't think I ordered from them yet. Those hellebores look amazing! Hope you have better success with Corydalis than I have.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

It took me a while to catch up, but I LOVE to see what everyone's getting! Just wish I had room to get one of everything.

My blueberries came yesterday from St. Lawrence Nurseries. All budded out. I hope to plant them tomorrow. I had planned to attempt to acidify the soil last fall... at least mulch it with pine needles. but of course I didn't get to it. So, per their instructions, I will add a small amount of sulphur around each plant. they suggest not to add too much peat.
2 Northsky, 2 Northland, 2 North Country (can you tell I live in the North LOL). I bought from a NY grower to keep the seasonal problems to a minimum.

I have 30 tall phlox from the co-op that I took out of my garage fridge that I need to plant, too. Before the other stuff starts pouring in. How did it get to be April already?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

That's exactly what I said this morning, Jan. I made 47 coleus cuttings and then the doorbell rang and it's my tree rose and another one from J & P who promised "mid April" delivery. I have to wonder what would have happened if we'd been away on vacation.

Edited to correct the name: my blunder. Sorry!

That's one amazing tree rose! Able to ring the doorbell...

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

They truly are amazingly talented, Victor. Now if they could just prune themselves and put themselves in the garage each December and get out into the courtyard by themselves each March it would be grand.

Hi, pirl, it's me jan. Eleanor is the other grammy ;0). What tree rose did you get?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I really am sorry and I really am brain dead.

Peace is the tree rose and the other is Purple Tiger. No leaf budding on either one. J & P isn't the same since being taken over by Wayside. I have them both soaking but I'm quite annoyed at J & P.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I didn't know they were taken over. Too bad.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Here's the rose ringing the doorbell, Victor.

Patti I have some that is on your list, i'll look into the others, thank you!

Pirl, I ordered a Tree Rose too but it has not come yet and it hadn't better! I also ordered JI 'Light at Dawn' and it's all your fault! (grin)

Jan, I think you will be very happy with that selection of Blueberry bushes! I have 2 out of 3 that you picked and I love them.

Lowell, MA(Zone 6a)

Onewish, that video is so funny! Poor things, but i must admit it must be entertaining to watch.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I like that pirl... the tree rose ringing the doorbell !!! - Too funny! ☺☺

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

J & P did the same here, sent me 2 roses which I had to plant 2 weeks ago because they came 3 weeks ago when we had 27-29° at night!

- last week they sent me 3 more, (the last of my order) - I'll have to plant them this weekend or early this week or risk loosing them. They look great, but it was a little early, the soil is still a bit cold...☺

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I was thinking it might be entertaining ... but i think after a while they would just give up... i have a squirrel feeder that you put 4 ears of corn on and the thing spins around on a post... amazing how acrobatic they can be... but still fun to watch

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I had heard J&P and Wayside were owned by Smith Hawkin. There is a place on DG that gives the "who owns who" and who is in business with who.Guess thats where quality goes, they get too big.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

About the squirril feeders--I owned the type that held a lot of seed and had a weighted pirch so when heavier critters stood on it ,it would slam shut. The water would get in and ruine seed I even found a small critter trapped in the hopper.
I also owned a Dunncraft "Yankee Flipper" the down side of it was I had to recharge the battery in the dead of winter and squirrls gorged themselves anyway."There's no free lunch" where feeders are concirned.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

RE: Pirl and others who have offered plants.Sunny yesterday, Took pictures of two of five gardens that boast one or two iris and four seedums each, maybe a half eaten chrysanthemum.
I have four mailorder nurseries sending plants and we will buy localy, just wanted you to see where your generosity was going.

Pirl, I got 3 Mother's Rose from J&P last year (after the takeover). I only ordered from them because I really wanted this rose and they are the sole vendor. They sent them way early then. I kept them cold for a couple of weeks (per their instructions... I called and complained), but they broke dormancy so I had to plant them. One of them died. Out of 70+ roses that I planted last summer, it was the only one that died after planting. I had a couple that showed up in bad shape that we promptly replaced. I won't buy from them again.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

You guys have left me breathless with all that you have ordered, and all the work you are doing to get your gardens ready for planting!! It's no wonder I am tired all the time, just from reading your posts! (LOL! Kidding. Really!!)

The snowpiles are just now beginning to recede from our gardens, so Anna, Taelar, and I can at least walk outside and see something happening every day. And the seedlings in the upstairs room are taking off like little bandits!!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

How I wish all these companies would just listen when we ask for specific shipping dates but they don't. Last year J & P sent my rose order much too early. In a vain attempt to plant I started to try to plant but ice chips flew out of the soil. They offered free replacement but I kept them in the garage for a week and then planted them with great success. I hope these two arrivals will turn out to be winners but I have serious doubts and will tell J & P today, by email.

Today I received two emails from Dutch Gardens telling me my two orders will arrive between 2 and 5 days. I could scream. Normally they arrive the third week in April and that's what I was counting on. I am definitely not ready for these two boxes.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I would email them now and call first thing tomorrow morning. Maybe you can stop it before it ships.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

The emails said they have been shipped. I'll put all the lilies in the outside refrigerator and hold the rest until I clear each garden. None of them go in the gardens that have been cleaned.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

What a nice list! I have some.....want the rest! LOL

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Clematis from Debbie, Pirl??

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

All from Dutch Gardens, Victor. Their plants always grow for me though the clematis won't be the size Debbie sells. For the price I'm happy with them.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

That's a super list, there, pirl.
Do we ever stop wishing for the 'new' plants each year?
I sincerely hope NOT!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

That's just Dutch Gardens. There are others...

Why should we stop wishing and planning? That would take all the fun out of gardening.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

'When your heart is in your dream
there is no wish too extreme'
right, pirl?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I like crickets...

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I wouldn't dare argue with that. "When you wish upon a star", right?

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Yep.
But Victor hates crickets.
