UPS just dropped off "Blue Paradise" Phlox.....it looks good!
what have you bought so far? part 4
Me, too, Victor.
Welcome to the Northeast forum, Dulcigarden.
Fabulous blue
Jo Ann
LOL Victor, I think the list is hardy though.
Ayankee have you had sucess with your dhalias after pulling them out and storing them for the winter?
I think I planted a blue phlox last fall.
Thanks for the photo Ngam.. It's very pretty!!
I just got my other order of Dahlias...lol...from Connellys. I hope Al chimes in here...Pirl, not sure if you've tried them or not, Connelly's that is, but OMG...I'm taking a pic now to post here...the things are Huge....especially the one. With the understanding the Dahlias can grow into nice clumps with little root at all, I'm just impressed by the size...the pic I'm posting is 3 from Connelly's vs 5 from Dan's Dahlias.
Nice color on the Penstemon, Jo Ann.
Thom! No size comparisons! It's not important for dahlias. Some varieties just don't make big tubers.
LOL...ok. The really large one, I'm going to have to buy a bigger pot...oye. I just bought 8 more. I know I have other things coming in. Take stock in WalMart everyone...lol.
As long as the tubers are all healthy, and they do their Dahlia thing, I'm gonna be happy :-)
Ugh - just placed another Fairweather order! Itea 'Little Henry' (3), Clethra 'Sixteen Candles' (3), and one more Comptonia - sweet fern.
Then I'm relatively innocent with 8 more dahlias. Now I feel virtuous.
Then shall I order 'Bridal Veil' for you??
I just received a tropical I ordered - Michelia champaca. Supposedly used for Joy perfume. Any of you familiar with that perfume? I am not.
i know it has been made since pre WWII and it was advertised as the most expensive perfume in the world (though i doubt that it is true now).
Wow. Hopefully it smells good!
You'll have to let us know, Victor.
Vic those leaves look like ducks' feet. :~)
I do feed it tree 'quackers'...
Bought my new glasses.
Victor my wallet is very familiar with Joy, it is my wifes favorite perfume. It use to be sold at Macy's and now it can only be found in secondary stores. Perfumia is the store I found it in. The bottle says it is made from gardenias and roses.
Thanks, wha. Do you like the scent?
Nice blue phlox NGam---I love phlox, but have not tried that one---Victor--another nice JM, although I liked the pink feather one even more. Amy---I share your frustration with the seedlings--mine were doing great--then---the tops were EATEN. The only thing they (I'm assuming mice) did not touch were the annual scabious. My sprouts are now upstairs out of the cellar, & a trip to HD today for electronic mouse eliminators--my cousin swears they work, & I hate the traps, so hopefully the mice will leave (I plan to keep the door open so they don't come upstairs). Two years ago, our son had a snapping turtle in his cellar--he had not moved in yet, his cellar windows were open, but it was a long drop to the floor! The leap didnt kill him--my son had to put it in a box & remove it.
LIGladLover, I had to laugh when I saw your closet. I commandeered a guest room closet for mine too. It works great except when I left a box containing some fritillaria in it last fall for a few weeks. Those stink, big time. Now it is full of several hundred lilies waiting for one more order to come so I can plant them all at once. Plus there are a mess of glads in there that I can't put out for a while.
Robin, sorry about your seedlings, mine are growing, but slowly and few seem to be duds. Or is it me?
I was feeling left out of the planting frenzy, but I got a few boxes today. I will be planting this week end. They are all small starter plants so it will be quick. But it is a start. I am printing out the labels tonight. Patti

i found the article about "wintersowing" in the spring, and i think i may try that on Sunday with a couple things. To bad we don't get milk - or anything - in plastic jugs. i have 2 smaller ones from juice and that's it.
When can i dig and divide daylilies, liriopes, dianthus, and coreopsis?
I have a fairly large. mostly shaded area im trying to fill in....can you tell? Any ideas would be appreciated!

Arlene - that bridal veil is beautiful. I want to add more astilbe in my shade garden and that will definitely be joining the others.
I love the "Jack Frost "plant good choice
Jo Ann
I just unpacked my Sooner Plant Farm order. Boy was I amazed at the packaging. Nothing was going to move in that box. Tools necessary to open box include box knife and screwdriver to pry off the staples. The plants were all in good condition and looked very healthy. They even gave a package of fertilizer for planting. They include a planting instructions sheet and give you 48 hours to report any dammage.
guess i bought my hellebores from the wrong place... mine where no where near blooming size... i see a bud on one of yours... everything looks great though
Nice lists of plants from everyone. They all sound very nice. Pixie don't forget the old fashioned fern leaf bleeding heart, they give a nice texture and color contrast in foliage. Hakonechloa is also very nice in a mostly shaded area, the golden color stands out and has a graceful shape, it is hardy to z5 (-20f). The Brunnera just keeps getting better every year here too.
I was also impressed with the Sooner order I received. This was my first order from them this year but not the last, nice packaging and nice sized heathy plants.
I grow these in a mostly shaded area, but I am a tad warmer than you. Poor thing! But I think many of these would be go for you and many of these have tons of cultivars. Patti
