Oooh--lovely color--but it is zone 5, & I would have trouble wintering it--that's the only thing that saves me from craziness! I have not bought 1 rose this year, but that may change when I spend my gift certificate from Hollandia Nursery--But I also need to replace a butterfly bush --& maybe some grasses or hydrangeas, so I'm torn.
what have you bought so far? part 4
oh, it means that it will survive zone 5... I am in zone 6... and yes I have the other fairy tale roses and they are hardy... you can grow it.... tons of mulch in the fall and she should be fine... and it's own roots !!!! way better than grafted in terms of being able to survive our NE winters!!!

rain lilies were the freebie
I ordered TB and some median irises. Luckily they won't arrive until July so we can donate iris plants to the ISM sale on July26 and will have spots for them. Have to get it smaller though.
Allison ... lovely order!
the first time I ordered with them.... not bad so far
I got the same Dahlias from them, Allison. Hopefully they bloom half as pretty as the pictures. I also got the Rain Lilies as the freebie. Guess they had an overabundance.
Kassia, I do like own root roses here--grafted ones die. But zone 5 roses, although they may survive the winter, never seem to flourish here--maybe soil, maybe exposure. Down in the center of town we have a rose garden at our church & the roses do so much better. Alison--I love dahlia Vancouver!
Robin, big pots... this way you control the soil...and winter them inside the garage!!!! I do that~~~~~ :) but glad you have some to enjoy!!!!
Anyone grow poppies?I need a good source for Oriental Poppies in the East.
I'v looked at Google and the only suppliers have bad reps. with DG.
Jo Ann
Come to my yard - you can dig 'em up. They are taking over the daffodil bed!
tempting but I have someone else do the digging.
I just buy the plants and do the "plan"
but thanks Jo Ann
Drat! :)
Remember, they should be planted in the fall, so order them at that time.
irisma: are you reffering to Oriental poppies?
We buy the potted plants locally in the spring.
The fall order from Whiteflower Farm all came with two leaves and began dying at once , never put up a crown and there is nothing there now except brown smudges.
On the other hand that may be why I cant find any now at Bluestone or other perennial places.
Jo Ann
I must amend the former statement. I did find "Papaver"
at Bluestone and Dutch Gardens. It sur makes searching easier when you call the plant by it's right name. Dutch G's were all sold out, so Bluestone it is.
I left a beautiful garden behind and moved, as some of you know, I am replacing some of my favorets.
What else are you missing? Maybe some of us have extras of hostas, daylilies or something else you could use.
I live in deer country so hostas are out of the picture, Delphs would be nice, daylilies too.

We are still freezing late April or May Thanks.
This is a plant I always wanted and didn't have enough shade to grow.
Aconitum heterophyllum from Seneca Hill Gardens
Daylilies it will be. I'll send a box next week.
I'm so thrilled pirl, Thanks so much.
You're quite welcome. I'll include tags with the names. You can just keep them damp and outside in sunshine until they can be planted. Many of us who grow daylilies have had them in plastic bags for much longer than we ever want to admit so have no fears about losing them.
I ordered poppies from Bluestone this year. Beauty of Livermore I think is the one. I hope they live, usually vendors send bare roots and they always die off on me, these are supposed to be in pots so fingers crossed they grow up and look as pretty as your pic Jo Ann.
Good grief, that's the tulip plan done in Photoshop.I must be nuts.
The tulips did look a bit odd but then we've all made mistakes with photos so it was actually fun to look at.
Attack of the giant tulips!
: )
Very nice, Jo Ann.
Thanks victor. Pictures in July when its bloomin
Nice Pieris Victor. Is that a pic of how it arrived? Beautiful looking shrub. I have several but I just wish they grew a little bit faster. Can't have everything.
Jo Ann your bulbs look like very nice choices. I am waiting for some canna bulbs too.
Yes, ngam, that's how it arrived yesterday. I love pieris. They grow glacially.
Ok, before I leave an iffy comment on the GWD, how many have you ordered from Dan's Dahlias, and, do they always send just a tuber? I'm used to getting clumps for my dahlia purchases. Please let me know. This is the first time I've ordered with them, I've already called and left a message with them, the 3 "free" dahlias, weren't in the package they sent, and the dahlias that I ordered, one was/is missing. I'm hoping they will rectify this.
Well, the Van Bourgandien order arrived yesterday and I have to say I'm quite pleasantly surprised. Everything looked to be in excellant condition. Nothing was totally dried out or so wet that it was rotted. Some of the Glad and Calla bulbs are even just beginning to sprout in the bags. Of course now I really need to get the yard cleaned up and the beds ready so I can begin planting. I'll post some pictures when I get home tonight.
