Diane just called, she boards her 'horse' at a stable that had an equestrian event yesterday and she did most of the b.b.q. ing so she's sore and tired today and won't be coming..so know it sounds horrible, but I am enjoying just puddling around in my workshop and craft room..decided the gazebo would be yellow, now not so sure I like it so will paint white, when completely dry will sand it for an antique look..best of both colors..lol..
So now I'm off web searching to try and find where I found the dragonfly stained glass and tablespoon piece..should have made a note...
Ruby I was just thinking about you..had t.v. on and they had one of the weekly shows (reruns) forget the name but anyway they thought they should have an organizer come in to put them on the right track..so picture this,
in comes the professional with a carrying case, when she opens the case a lifeboat inflates and opens up..probably an 8 man lifeboat, she gets them all inside and tells them there will be a massive flood and they have 10 minutes to take with them their 'true' family heirlooms and/or pride possessions...so cute, one takes a family heirloon clock, thinks of many other things of choice and out goes the clock..then they filter through the entire house and the remainder goes to the outside for garage sale..thought it was so funny..could picture you doing same..
Also Ruby, I used to get migraines where I'd be at the hospital for a shot to put me out..Dr. told me as soon as it started, off to the hospital I was to go...then one year while in Florida I found Excedrine Migraine - over the counter med however we cannot purchase it in Canada as yet, so each and every trip I go on, or friends go on I/they come back with bottles of it..whenever I start to get one, I simply take 1 or 2 tablets, sit for 1/2 hr. and you can actually feel the headache leave...so you might want to try..Kyle (grandson) also gets them and they seem to be the only thing to help him as well...just a thought..
Carol, when the power goes out I often bring in my solar lamps for light instead of candles...funny how so many did not participate and yet many large cities blacked out their primary lit buildings...
So now that I know I'm on my own, what to do, what to do..
Am sure lol I'll find something...
Be back later...
Best/Worse and What did I learn today? Friends pt.37
Betty,
Don't leave the seeds in the paper towels too long! Why? Because the tap-root will grow right into you towels and then it will be very hard to tease it loose. Mine were in the towels maybe 4-5 days--and i already had the problem. I guess that is why some people use coffee filters instead, roll them in a cone-shape and stand them up in a glass, or something, so thee root can grow downwards.
I just potted up all my Tomatoes into 4" pots. They were growing so well and healthy--just had to move them on. Will take a picture when they "regroup" from the trauma...
My little Craft Club is meeting here today. I have a guest teacher to d o this one. She wanted to...She is an art teacher and we will be painting our own greeting cards using acrylics.
OK! Off to the shower...Gita
...Ummmm.....Think Spring!
How much fun is that Gita...you will have to have show and tell...
I do have coffee filters, perhaps I should change them over..do you think it would now do more harm than good?
Liz, couldn't find where I saw that spoon dragonfly so tried to do one from memory, not sure it's the exact but oh well it will do until I can find the proper one..learnt a few things making this one which will help on the next 30 or 40 lol - have to pick up eye hooks in order to hand but this should give you an idea..the spoons on the site I visited had a narrow end to them so guess to get the best results you'd have to look for proper spoons..this one I purchased was 2 for $1.00 at the dollar store..hanging out in the garden, who will know...
Betty! How talented you are, my dear! I love the dragonfly would you be willing to post instructions on how to make them, please?
Thanks,
doc
I love the dragonfly too, Betty...as well as the feeders. Maybe if I ever get my workshop set up.......
Roses not all planted yet, I had to go to the doctor on Friday, so that day was gone pretty quickly. Drizzled rain most of the day yesterday, same for today.....maybe they will just plant themselves, ya think??
So I will spend this afternoon doing some inside stuff....not sure what.
Gita I am anxious to see photos from your afternoon.
Anxious to see GG's photos, too. That is my next big outside project. Stepping stones and hypertufa pots.....if it ever stops raining.
Take care.
Thank you girls..most certainly can tell you what I've done..will try to find the internet photo that I saw it on..lordy that will be a zillion sites to revisit..lol...
Shar, am sure you are still early for planting..have no fear you'll get them in...no rain, no mild temps but the sun is out..can't believe it's just noon..feel like it should be late evening..
Imagine, I ate breakfast, lunch and already I think it's supper time..did make carrot cake muffins, turned out ok..doing much better in my cooking of late (more the baking) so now I've just cut and glued to my glass another 2 sets of wings..might get them all cut out and then when I feel like doing them they'll be waiting..trying to refine it..
Should really be working on my window panel, but for that I'm down to the nitty gritty, little pieces and don't feel like it so I'm moving on..
As for the yellow gazebo, not sure I like it, so will paint it white this aft. let it dry thoroughly and then sand it down to look antiqued, lordy did I tell you that already, or was it somewhere else??? oh well if I did, just put it to old age...lol...
Believe it or not, just cut out another set of wings, having a stained glass saw certainly makes life easier..lol..but as I'm cutting I'm thinking, probably dragonflies just have clear wings no color right???? I'll try a set and see what they look like, might have to be prettend dragonflies...lol
I'm wondering if you could turn that into a butterfly? I've never worked with stained glass, I'd love to, but haven't the room. I have a feeling it would be another Doc addiction.........LOL Just like my ceramics and porcelains.......could never do just 1.........LOL
This is the really cute candle holder set that Rachel sent me, her Secret Pal. Also included was 12 of the tea candles in a box that I have already put away. They smell yummy!!!
Betty, I really liked the yellow gazebo, but think you antiquing idea sounds good too. I loved the dragonfly. Really, really cute. You are so talented. I like doc's idea about possible making a butterfly too.
Haven't done much today. Read a post that further explains why there was a big controversy last week and a member is missing from group. It doesnt answer all of my questions, so I will dmail and ask someone who is more "in the know."
I have a load of laundry washing and then it is off to veg out on couch the rest of the day. Tomorrow brings a new week for all of us and gets us a bit closer to warm weather once again.
You ladies all have a wonderful Sunday and also have a great week coming up.
Ruby
Betty I love the dragonfly! I like the colored wings on yours, the ones that fly around here have black almost see thru wings. You should sell them, I sure would buy a few!
Ruby glad you liked the candle holders, hope they go with your fruit motif :0)
Gita please post a picture of your card(s) when they are done.
Have a great day all. I'm off to spend sometime shopping with my best friend and her two daughters! Hugs, Rachel
Hey, all
I am not expecting any miracles from this woman. Here it is--2:15PM and she is not here yet. She said she would come around 12:30. Then shew called and wanted to know if she could use some of my brushes as she has not had time to get any. and so it goes.
I have seen the cards she does. I am 10x the artist she is! Besides--WHO teaches art in a school somewhere, and has NO easel, NO brushes--nothing at home? We will see! We will see. I have my misgivings about all this. She seems disorganized and scattered. Every time I have called her to update her on how many people are coming--I have woken her up.....I just can't get excited about people like that.....
BUT--I shall give the performance of my life and be sweet--grateful--will listen to whatever she tells us--etc.....Who knows? Might turn out better than we all think...
Betty,
Love your spoon dragonfly!!!! I have been digging in all my drawers to show you what you van do with a fork, but I cannot find IT.
Basically--the fork has 4 tines. You bend 2 of them down on one side and one on the other side (like fingers) and leave the middle one sticking up. Get it????????
It is a hoot!!!! I paid $4 for it at a craft show. it is supposed to be used to get pickles out of the jar....
OK! I need to pace some more. Pretty soon the people will be arriving. It starts at 3PM. Oh well--some of them have met her and share my opinions......
Gita
oops--she is here!!!!
Can't wait to hear how you made out with your group Gita...she does sound pretty scatterbrain but then know from experience, all the knowledge is in the head and just pops out when needed...lol
Liz, hope I did not say 'wooden spoons' if I did, my error and my apology..as well, that's 'came' I think you are showing, mine comes in a roll in different widths, I usually use 7/16ths, you pull off the paper backing and the glue adheres to the glass...I'll take a photo to show you...
Just finished another..Sharon, my sister has her birthday April 1 - April fools day..she hinted that she would like one of the stained glass butterflies I did so I'll throw in one of these..she loves gardening so I'm sure she'll have somewhere to put it...
And it's only 2:36pm..this day seems endless..well better get the white paint out and see what mischief I can get into...
Vicki they are beautiful..when you say Dollar Tree you surely don't mean the Dollar Store do you..if so, you got quite a deal and should have certainly bought more..
Because I used a tablespoon and cut the wings quite large they really are quite a size..I've put hooks to hang the two but some of them I think I'll just leave them and purchase a few copper rods and solder them to it so they can go into the garden...
I want to garden so bad..here's still what is outside my back door as we speak...
Betty I do mean the Dollar Tree(store) where everything is a dollar. Yes I am kicking myself now. No I don't put them outside because they would not last out there.
Sorry you have so much snow yet. I am seeing more yard everyday. But that might end tomorrow as we are to get snow.
ves522, those are lovely!
Betty, you poor thing, you need to move south, like to VA! LOL We have both Dollar Tree and a Dollar Store here, but they sure don't have "purties" like that. What a bummer!! YOU are an enabler.......I may have to try my hand at the stained glass. That is just so stunning. We won't mention that to DH just now.........LOL
Still looking for e-mail addies, ladies. Please d-mail me, thanks. ;)
morning all
sorry i havnt been on in a little while but havnt been well, throat infection but all good now.. well almost.
you have all been so busy! love the dragon fly.. sharon love the chair...

Laura, had hoped your time off would give you back your health..sorry you are still not feeling well, guess it's Monday morning for you, start of your day and here we're about ready for bed...we are topsy turvy aren't we, you finishing summer and us only beginning...can't remember Laura, do you get snow?
Well it's that time of night, been a long day but an enjoyable day...just playing around on my own..not accomplishing a whole lot, but accomplishing something...managed to use up some glass that has been sitting around for what seems an eternity..used most of it when I did all the butterflies last month and today managed to use up more odds/sods...
my best of today...leisurely day
worse..can't be a worse if you are all on your own doing what you enjoy
what did I learn..should have taken time today to go get a perm..yuk, hair as straight as a poker..always next week right?
Night everyone..
Ahhhhh, Betty...the red is my favorite!!!!
What a wonderful job you did.
Hi girls, that was a boring hour but if I had taken a nap I would not have been able to sleep till real late last night so I read my homework it Excel by the light of a Salt City Candle and a oil lantern.
My neighbors had some outside lights on but most of the homes seemed dim. My next door neighbors didn't do it though, On either side, I am sure.
I love how the bird houses turned out and I think either color is a clean stand out for something so classic.
One of my coffee filter seedlings just barely sprouted through my coffee filter. I have several sprouted but not enough and I have school tomorrow and it has been too windy to go out and play in the dirt to plant the seelings. My Elm trees are 50% leafed out and my Fruitless Mulberry trees are in the fuzzy stage which I am allergic to both, so I better Zertec up before I transplant them.
Those are so pretty, the colors make me feel peaceful.
Oh yes, Our dirt is that chalky sand color. The wildflowers start now and they go until around June some time. They usually go in July by the time heat has hit for more than a week.
evening all, im so tired i cant respond to much,
betty the stained glass peices are wonderful i had some of that tape and used it up several years ago will have to go get some.

rachel hugs to you
everyone have a good evening
Glad to hear that everyone had a nice relaxing weekend!
Best: Got to spend a few hours in the yard today while the sun was out!
Worst: None
What I learned: That I need more topsoil for the new bed I have been working on. A girl can never have enough good dirt!
Couple of secs. while I sit here waiting for my call, never know where I'm meeting Suzanne or the girls, so sitting here bag at the door (good reading, new edition of backyard living magazine) so thought I'd drop in with coffee in hand to say 'good morning everyone' waky/waky...
Took Sailor out for a walk this morning and it's very mild but starting to rain..newscast is saying watch for ice patches because of the variation in temps..
I live at the bottom on a hill and have the main kitch water drainage is and the water is streaming down...
oooopps , got to go, talk later
Hi all,
Well the big thaw is here..rain..melting snow..water in basement..I'll be playing with the wet vac today..I've already been down there vacuuming ....two canisters full.....and sweeping water toward the sump pump hole..
Just came upsators for a break and more coffee.
I went to a garden centre yesterday and bought 4 new oriental lily roots.
Then I went to Winners and found a wonderful iron crane for the garden..and a mesatl planter box..which I have inside for now. I wasn't expecting to find garden things at Winners..I went looking for two matching photos frames which I didn't find.
Betty your dragon flies are lovely. I like the red one too..it will really stand out in your garden.
Ves..you got a real deal on your dragon flies. I got some at a flea market in the U.S. a few years ago on copper rods. 3 for $5.00.
Better get back down to the basement..have a great day all.
These are from last year..hope they come back again soon.
morning all,
running late will chat later lol but saturday dh and went to go visit my mom and in shopping center where she works, there was a sidewalk show some nice artists, well a few doors up there is this wonderful pet store, dh said i had to get this metal sign for the backyard.... not that my two will listen lol
Carol, hate to go home tonight incase same has happened at my house..I've taken every precaution.. i.e. sump pump, if it doesnt work then a battery operated sump pump and also a water alarm to notify when water is coming in, but I'd have to be home for the warning..with 14 degrees and rain tomorrow, yuk..I'd try to make trenches tonight but the ground is frozen..
How are you making out???
Love the sign, can't get over those lemons..you should be selling them to the stores...
Hi all - totally vegged out yesterday and didn't even get on the PC. Woke up at 9 and came downstairs, read the paper and fell back to sleep on the couch till noon. UGH! The only thing I did was sew together the backs to my last 2 quilts so they are ready to take to the quilters when she calls. It was a cold yucky day. It was actually sleeting yesterday morning!! It was over 80 degrees on Friday! Watched a PPV movie w/ DD - August Rush. Very good movie!
Murphy is still going thru the door but had 1 set back. We let him out last night and about 15 mins later I heard him barking. I told DH, he's on the outside and doesn't want to come thru - so he went out there and that dumb dog was halfway out the door and wouldn't move cause the flap was on his back. He had been like that for the whole 15 mins! What a goober! I think he was easing thru the door and the flap layed on his back and he was afraid to go anymore. So now he flies thru!
Back to work today. Was very ahrd to get up this morning and I'm looking at the clock and it's only 11:30am. UGH! I go back to school tonight so today will be a long day. I have to send some seeds out to Chantell tonight for a trade, so I'll try to pop back on before going to bed tonight.
Hugs!
jeannine
Jeannine, always nice to have those kind of days from time to time..80 degrees, think we Canadian gals should pay you a visit and come back when it's at least 50 here..could help you with your gardening and quilting..promise, that is after I get up from lounging...
Finally, found the stained glass dragonfly photo that I first seen my project on..must say, think mine took nicer..not a nice thing to say right?
Betty, it might not be nice, but it's true!! Yours are much nicer!
Raining to be the band here today and has been since early, this morning. We need it, but it's damp chilly, so I'm all wrapped in my throw around and keep mom warm thingy I got for Christmas. LOL Fighting off dogs.........
I have a late appt with the local bone breaker again, my knee is better, but not 100 percent as yet. And letting me know it's raining outside.......my very own and very accurate forecasting system. LOL
Not doing much, did set up some seed trays, have the 2 orchids I bought off the clearance rack stuck in the kitchen sink soaking up a good drink. They are so pretty, I hope I don't kill the things. I've been reading up on caring for them both on the thread here and on the web. Lord, so much knowledge at your finger tips.......I never fails to awe and amaze me.
Good Day to all!
We got back yesterday early evening. But LOL a house full of everyone checking on there mails held me till today. Not to mention our sump pump went out sometime while we were gone so had to clean up an inch of water. It's dry now so we can bleach mop tonight. Then oodles of laundry to do!
Well, now I'm certain you didn't want to hear that bit of news sooo, Our trip to the house was wonderful. We left on Thursday by 1ish. As we left, it was raining turning to snow in Illinois, yuck was glad to be hitting the road. Well the rain/snow coming down pretty hard so DH, told me to keep my eyes in my book...LOL, was a nervous wreck until we got to the second highway, then it was pretty smooth ride.
In Wisconsin, still alot of snow mounded from plows and just not melted as yet. The lake is still ice, makes for such a pretty serene look. So, Our eagles are still away, most likely they will be returning Sometime next month. The weather though was pretty nice, sunny, cool, crisp 40's...just beautiful. We ran around in hoodies and spring jackets. So no go on any kind of gardening at this time.
Well, Our house is coming together quite nicely. DH and his crew have really accomplished quite a bit. Most all of the trim work has been done, all on the top level which is the bedroom area. Pretty new doors on all the rooms and fixtures have been installed. Also, the bathroom up there has been plumbed in, so next will be the walls and installation of bathroom items, woohoo! Once that is complete we then can install carpeting. Then at last will be able to decorate. We have decided to put up mini blinds and I will also make curtains for each room. So will be planning a trip to JoAnnes soon.
On the main level, all the trim work has been done done on windows and ceiling and, fan and light fixtureshave been installed in the great room (living room) Still needs to go around patio doors, but ran out of materials inside, LOL the wood outside was buried under snow and frozen. So in meantime ran around a put all the covers on outets, etc. And the kitchen has been flip flopped. I love it!! In the sitting area, I can see everywhere, and am certainly thrilled with that. A larger window has been installed where the sink once was and now has the table. So this is where I spent a great deal of time. Here I can watch the birds at the feeder. LOL, Patients is definatley a virtue, as I waited for 1.5 hours just to catch the cardinal on film. He never went to the feeder but he was definatley interested! We had these tiny little birds that are just "flighty" but did manage to catch them on film! So I was in my glory with that.
In the basement area, the only work they did was install a new and improved hot water tank. However still kept tripping the fuse so, dh replaced the circut breaker and hopefully will do the trick. At least i was able to do dished and get showers in.
So the first day was trying to get some sort of order in to be comfortable with the new setup. Kitchen needs drywall and flooring and of course cabinets and appliances. We have basic stuff to survive there but will be splended once it's done. But, anyway dusted and swept, then kicked back to take it all in.
So for fun, The kids played this insanely crazy card game, and laughter rang throughout the house by all! I was completely lost after the first three hands, but it is fast paced and hysterically fun to watch.
Then Friday we surprised the kids with a Dish TV network...waited around all day and the guy didn't even show up until almost 8! But it's there so they were happy.
Saturday, We went bowling at the smallest alley I have ever seen, I think there were 12 lanes! While we waited enjoyed watching them shoot pool. So I haven't bowled in years, but it was fun. And man, I am paying for it as far as different muscles being used! Oh gosh, the kids decided they didn't like to bowl, as well, they don't very often and got upset because they couldn't get the hang of it immediatley. Oh well. like everything else it takes practice, so they cheered for eachothers gutter balls! too funny.
On Saturday, Dh took Jacob to the dump! OH good gooly, He kept busy all morning smashing cans and cutting up the spent copper, His hard work paid off with all the scrap and such he made a total of 56 bucks!! So now I know he'll be busy scavanging junk for cash, LOL. He found these four copper candle holders and bought them for for 50 cents. So cute, he said mom look, trash to treasure stuff.
So I cleaned them up and will find a dish for underneath and replace the glass, they will be great on the deck! While they were gone i just relaxed and did my stitching and enjoy the total peace. The only noise I was hearing were the chattering of the birds! My kind of peace and quiet.
Each Morning, I awoke at 5:30 just to greet the daybreak and watch for animals.
Was lovely, I didn't see anything, but i sure can here quiet the array of birds. We have a Very big woodpecker, right in our little section of woods, but I didn't venture in as it was still icy. Also heard, cardinal, crows, some Jays, and Turkeys! So...just enjoyed the fresh air and the on goming day. LOL, by noon I was pretty tired, don't know how you all rise so early everyday!
Each night we had was gorgeous!!...So many stars filling the sky and lighting the earth. We were able to see big and little dipper, some constellations which I cannot name but wow, what a sight to behold!
So, on Sunday packed and cleaned up for next time...Came home and here I am.
I had a ton of reading and my next post will greet each of you, I missed chatting with you all, but did think of you throughout my weekend.
P.S. I did take photo’s will show you later, they are at home computer.
Here is the house when We first bought it 3 years ago.
