Starzz, welcome back! The pictures look great and the water looks so warm!

OMG Laura! How scary! I wonder if it could have been a blood sugar thing. Girl, you take care of yourself!!! Have a wonderful time on your vacation. How long will you be gone?

Well, I'm sitting here at work - in the dark! The power went out all over the campus amost an hour ago. Luckily, our PCs still work as do the phones. I was over in another bldg setting up a video call between a site in NYC and northern VA and the screen showed all 3 sites but ours was dark. You could make out ppl from the glow of their laptops - it looked like a se'ance. I asked anyone if they had a lighter - FREEBIRD!

Well, it's been very windy here and we had some rain last night. I planted all of my lettuces and spinach in my new bed. I put the PVC pipe up so when the wind dies down, I can cover them with plastic and have a mini greenhouse. They will love that! The cucumber seeds I started on Sat have already popped up! These little suckers are eager to get started! Hopefully, they won't grow too much before I can get them in the ground. I don't want them getting leggy.

NEWS BREAK - the power just came back on (dang-it!)

OK, back to work - begrudgingly!

Chat later!

Thanks GG....perfect time to write my favorite line..."Stay in the Light"..LOL

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Starzz what a great vacation. Sounds like you had lots of fun. I can't forget the good food! Lordy I would of been in hog heaven! Welcome back!

GG a good way to start the day at work. I plan on moving some of my seedlings out to the GH today. I can at least do that much.

Liz I bet she is there to spy also. Hope it helps you get rid of that girl and she gets her own store again and not yours!

Sharran your hair looks good. You had fun and that is what counts. Your story yesterday was really good.

Laura take care. That had to be so scary. Have a good vacation.

I had these guys in my backyard yesterday. There were 5 of them and they are so skinny! They can eat any flowers they find. Until they start growing!

Hope you have the day you need.

Good Morning!

Betty...Where are you? Are you ok?? It's almost 10:30!!

Well Hello Carole, Welcome home!
Loved seeing your vacation photos. Especially the Sunrises, What a beautiful vision to behold. Wow, don't you and sister look so nice and Happy and healthy, nice kiss from the sun. hehe, how cute you mimicking the statue…We missed ya, glad you are home.

Now, Laura…gosh, So sorry to hear about your bout of whatever it was. How scarey. Did they clear you on going to you mini vacation?? Did they say what it might have been? Are you eating enough??

Ves, Nice to see the deer come so close…My gosh, you sure had a busy night getting all that stuff unloaded and put away. Nice record.

Liz, Well, you know it will take a bit of time to get used to new phone. My remedy for messages, lol not to get any. Never did set up an inbox, guess I will face that if I ever get any. …That is NOT a hint now either…heheh. Oh man, no decorating, oh well guess you have been way too busy being short handed at the work place.

Shar, It was very weird to not see anyone on last night! I got home and no posts, so thought I’ld keep busy with my project.
Took over 3 hours to remove my pattern…DH watched several times shaking his head. Well anyway, checked in a couple of times, and just figured everyone was busy too..So, you are adorable with your curley “mop”, LOL it’s no wonder officer friendly let you go with a smile like that! Better plant a rose with yellow flowers (friendhip) for him to pass by. Plus it’s nice to know that he recognized the house where flowers grow, keeps me from worrying to much.

Dawn, sounds like you have been working like gangbuster again.

GG…bummer the lights came back on, but well at least things won’t get behind. Oh and were you able to get your mini greenhouse plastic up in time??

Ruby, you ok today?
Gita, Sure hope you have just been busy. Not over doing.

Doc, Oh my…those sounds would make me crazy, do you ever get used to it? How far are you from Academy?

Well today is so boring, Finished up my SP gifts and of they go. Today! So sorry not in time for Easter, but it is still March! Not too behind. Also, ran into major snafu on my fountain. The fairy I wanted to use has acrack in the leg and water drains out, sooo, needless to say i am a bit bummed on that, well see what i can do still have time to play with the idea.

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

Quantico and the FBI academy is about 30 miles north. The mortar fire is happening at Dalhgen, about 40 miles south. They are doing "practice" rounds..... It's no fun at all when they and the Marines decide they need to practice together. The windows in the house shake from the sound. sheesh Just such a warm and fuzzy feeling with all this "protection" around.

I just went to see my local bone breaker, feeling much more tuned up. And he's asking for gardening advice, so I had a crowd. I swear I'm going to hit my extension agent up for MG credit hours for doing all this "lecturing" LOL>>

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Worried about Betty........

Glenview, IL

Me Too!! Never ever this late and don't see in Prayer eighther.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

She was not feeling well, stomach was swollen.....this is scaring me.

I am tearing out my bathroom floor cover, putting new in. I have every tool known to man in there. Took me three hours to take up the old junk and get the floor ready for new....geesh. Whatever possessed me to tackle this job myself.

But if I keep working, I won't worry so much about Betty.
Or my sick buddy in Arizona.
Or Gunner who had a bad day yesterday.
So....guess I will check in later.

Glenview, IL

Oh my Shar, Probably best to keep busy.

you just be careful with your project.

Lets just pray everyone is alright...I keep checking too!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Hey--Y'All......

I am fine--semi-busy, but I just have not had anything special to comment on or to write about. In case you haven't noticed it yet--I do not post about trivial stuff--only when I really want to tell you something--answer a question--or respond to one. I DO read 90% of all your Posts and follow everything as best I can, though.

Had my varicose vein surgery last Thursday--came home as if nothing had happened. Still not sure what all he did? Clear mind--no pain--my daughter was just in awe! She should know by now that her Mom is "that way"....semi-invincible....:o)

Next day (Friday) was very mild--I went outside and pruned all my Roses and started raking leaves out of all the beds in the back yard. My Dr. said that walking was the best thing and NOT to be laying in bed! S0--I listened....:o)

Saturday--I went back out and continued. Raked up many a bare spot in the back yard and seeded it--had lots of bare areas where the Fescue grass I seeded last Spring just died out in the heat. Now there is nothing!
This time I bought a more a "Turf" type of grass seed by Pennington. Good seed to buy!!!! It is also coated with something green--containing a fungicide--and, the birds will leave it alone. That alone is worth it!

Yesterday (Wednesday) I went out and started cleaning up the front. So many leaves had blown under everything! If you remember--where i cut down the old, dying Spruce I had? Well--it left a circle about 12' in diameter all bare. So, I tackled that. Raked some of the bigger choips off and smoother the whole area. Put down a bit of fertilizer and seeded it all. Then raked it all again. By now it was raining and I was getting all wet, but I just HAD TO finish this!!!! Then, since I now was all yukky, I had to shower and, quickly, get ready to be at work by 3PM.
Still have the other half of the front--and the East side beds on my house to clean up.

Still to do:

-Prune all the shrubs and evergreens everywhere--TOO MANY to mention!!
-Fertilize my lawn--gonna just do the fertilizing--NOT the crab grass pre-emergence, as I have seeded too many areas of my lawn. You DO know that you CANNOT do both!!!!!!!!! If you do not--I will be glad to enlighten you.....D-mail me!
-Plant a Rose bush I bought (Chicago Peace) to replace one that is barely "there"....
-Dig up and supplement as many of my beds as I can--remember--I have all these tree roots everywhere! Much of this ends up being a very "surface supplementing":..
-Need to read all my notes i wrote from last year on what to do--and what NOT to do any more. Somehow--I always just seem to go with what I want anyway.....
-Keeping track of all my sprouting seeds. Some of them will, soon, need to planted on into bigger pots. Some have not sprouted yet---some are outside in a "faux" winter-sowing situation, etc. And so it goes....................
NO end once the "Season" hits.......

OK! I am sure I have bored you all to death --once again--talking about nothing but gardening issues. Basically--that is much of what you will be hearing from me about for the next few months.....as I really do not have anything else going on in my life......NO problems! NO work issues! No in-law problems---No trips anywhere!--NOT working on any particular craft project!--NO snow to shovel!-----What on Earth would I have to write about?????.....................Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm????

Y'All have a wonderful day!!!!!

Gita

Is Betty going to the Dr today since she's not feeling well? Betty, I know that your one tough chicky but you do need to take care of yourself too :0)

Gita glad to hear that your surgery went well.

Have a good day all. Hugs, Rachel

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm home, sorry .. just woke up, not feeling very well, so off for another warm bath, cuddle under the blankets and Lord willing I'll feel better tomorrow and can gab..

Nope, Dr. appt. next Friday...

Can't get into any clothing lol..so p.j.'s the best...

Will answer all your lovely posts early morning..

Off to bed..
Don't worry....

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Doesn't sound good. Get thee to a doctor!

Victoria Harbour, ON

HEY you girls, no worrying..Judy just called, got proper HELL from her because I'm not at the dr.'s..would you believe my Dr. is in hospital..just had major surgery and our emergency dept, well I could be there till tomorrow if I went in tonight...but they have a new system, not walk in it's about 20 Dr.'s who all take turns and you cannot book an appt. until the day..office opens at 9am and they take booking for the day/evening..so first thing tomorrow morning I'm calling..promise...

Although they think it's gallbladder, because this has happened a few times of late, Suzanne and Wayne can relate to the fact that I had a 'glass' of milk both times..so
who know, maybe I'm lactose intolerant..I'm going to really watch what I eat and the effect it has on me...

You'll know I'm feeling better when I tell you this story..

Got home only minutes before my class came in, got into sweats because they expand..but, just as I got out of my vehicle it was icy/icy..especially near the back door where everyone come in so looked near the car and saw that the plow had plowed and there was sand from my driveway, so quickly grabbed a shovel, of course my pants were wide open and undies below my enlarged abdomen because of the swelling, so here I am shovel in hand full of sand, walking about 20 ft. to back entrance, slacks slip down to my ankles and I'm waddling, bare legs, tummy exposed, pants making it difficult to walk and I'm waddling like a duck..now you all know I'm fine..still a sense of humour, but,I really truly am off to bed...

Know you've also been ill, Shar/Gita/Ruby/ etc.etc. and want to say I hope you are feeling better..all of you..you are all great friends... but little pooped out, maybe less pressure if I'm tucked into bed...so, I'll be up early I'm sure, looking for someone to gab with...

Big smile, come on, you worry warts!!!

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Hi Betty..that's quite a picture you painted wiht your words....and in this cold!!! LOL

Will think positive thoughts for a quick recovery for you.

Pacifica, CA

um and i put her up to it to!!! betty better phone in to the doctor

(Cathy), MO

Hi everyone. Betty I agree, get to a doctor! The last week and a half drove home the lesson that we never know what can happen when, and there's no guarantee our loved ones will be with us. I am very thankful all turned out well on this end and thanks for the prayers everyone. Now Betty, Please get yourself seen about.

I got a surprise pkg from my secret pal, though it's kind of hard to stay secret when it's from a different country! :-) The most gorgeous homemade bag and beautiful charm. Thanks so much Laura. The charm will go on my mirror in the car tomorrow morning! And the bag will be perfect for several things. Overnight trip, shopping, I can think of a bunch! And I love purple! And the fact that you made it make it even more special. Thank you so much. And YOU also, please take care fo yourself. Did you ever figure out what "the spell" was from?

Hope everyone else is well. I just skimmed, I'm so far behind. Will have to go back and read all the threads trying to catch up.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Oh Cat you blew it, I thought Laura was mine. lol

I am just messing with you. I am glad your mom had the guardian Angels watching her back. How are you doing now after all that stress?

Betty milk has fat and fat is what will trigger a gall bladder attack fast so it could still be that. Just to let you know though is that my dad recovered from the surgury so easy and stayed alone and wanted to, he was even playing his keyboard for a half hour at a time after a couple of days.

If it is that, don't be afraid to do the surgury.

I am overdoing the yard work but like I said before your window to do it is short, late winter, early spring(sometimes) and fall. I started laying those pavers in a pad for a table or chairs or something, but my back is so out right now, I am just a glutton for punishment in this yard. It is for a good cause.

Doc funny how I relate to the thundering under your ground with the military thing so close. Here we have the military aircraft breaking the sound barrier so often and our whole house shakes and the windows shutter. When the space shuttle is landing it is really loud. We use to have stealths flying around here all the time, now they come in once in a while for modifications but other than that we don't see them like before.

We have the base here and there is Boeing, Northrop, Lockheed, NASA, it is an aerospace community.

Crozet, VA

Shoot, I get annoyed when a neighboring dog barks, or a car engine revs up. No way could I live where Dawn and Cathy live. I am really spoiled living here on the mountain side.

Alright now Betty and Laura - you both have strange things going on with your body's and are actling like it is nothing at all. After trips to the doctors, we will expect complete reports. I agree on an ambulance ride to the hospital at the request of a doctor, no less is not "nothing." You must have really scared the doctor who saw you Laura, because most doctors don't do things irrationally.

So sorry to Shar that she came to the room and couldn't find any playmates. Yeah, the weather is warming and I guess that people are getting out and about a bit more. We waited late this year to get taxes done and each day I keep remembering new things that need to be added. I will not put them off like this next year.

I visited granddaughter Emily yesterday. As always she is such a sweet little doll. She is really growing though and is getting big. She will be one year old on May 30. She is just beginning to eat some big peoples food and that is so cute.

My son quit his job last weekend and that has me not too happy with him at the present time. He tells me that he wants to work part time, and my answer to that is....who doesn't? I have made up my mind that I will not go through the sort of stress that I did a couple of years ago with him while he was messing up terribly in high school. I was having major health problems and most of my energy was spent on helping him get out of high school. He is really dissapointing me once again. If he can't be speedy about finding another job or go to college or some further training, I am not willing to let him live here and come and go as he pleases. I haven't given him a deadline yet but even before he quit the job I had told him that of he doesn't have a job, that he also doesn't have a place to live. I refuse to be like some others I have heard say that they are still enabling 30 and 40 year old men to live at home. I don't have the energy needed to momma a grown man. So.....that is bothering me some.

WElcome home Starxx, I enjoyed your photos and hope that you have more to show. Hello to all the other special ladies here. Thanks for special pal reminders. I think I will go dig through my supplies and see what sorts of goodies I can find for mine today. That will make me feel better.

Just wanted to share that my Christmas Cactus is blooming again. It didn't bloom this time last year but I heard others talking about theirs blooming at Christmas and Easter time and I was envious. I love seeing the blooms. I am also enjoying the daffodils, hyacinths and crocus that are in beautiful bloom in my yard too. Such a wonderful time of year.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, Carol loved the photo's..sounds as though the weather was terrific, can see you've got a tan..gives one the air of youth ..golden godess...

Ruby, can imagine how distraught you are with DS..keep to your guns, remember that you are doing what's best for you and for him! A friend of mine got the 1st months rent for her daughter, paid it and said ta/ta..you are on your own...she struggled but in the end managed...saw then just what wonders she had been living at home while complaining...

Gita, so glad you went through your operation without a hitch, but still don't overdo..

Cathy, how's mom doing..better? How lucky an Australian 'Secret Pal' and homemade to boot..lucky you!On Wedns. night at painting my girlfriend Rita's daughter joinedus for the night and she had spend 1 yr. doing Australia and she gave me a little kaola bear with a boomerang...so cute!

Dawn, you know better than that..you've a bad back to start with, you've many more months to accomplish your garden, we can't even start till May, so off your feet and relax..glad to hear your father is back on the mend and the operation went well...you'll have to take photo's of what you've accomplished so far..anxious to see..how is Greg..feeling ok now that he's back to work? he is isn't he?

Shar, is Ethan visiting this weekend..sounds as though you are playing outside tending to the roses...

Judy, waiting for the 9:00am chime..promise! Hope you enjoyed your outing with DS last night...

Liz,Rachel,Trop,Doc what have you all planned for the day..

It is suppose to be sunny here although cold..all the stores are closed so can't go and spend my weekly allowance..but there is always tomorrow...

Just wanted to let you know I'm fine, had a good nights sleep, tummy burning so I'm off for porridge and coffee..
As Dawn said, and I believe, if it is gallbladder it's just acting up..so I'll just puddle around the house today, not doing much...Bernie (DB) and (SIL) Charlene are dropping by this morning so have a few chores, get all the gardening books out for the 100th time and enjoy the day!

Will drop in from time to time..

Morning all,
GG..what a gorgeous picture.

Betty..glad to hear you got some sleep.
The comment about "Golden Goddess" made me smile..don't I wish..LOL..but thanks...

This is a pic I took for you gals..The title of the book really intrigued me..and I asked my sister to order it for me and it arrived in time for me to read it there. But actually the letters are a bit dry and formal.

Yeah Betty, moving out won't be easy for Tucker either. Having lived all of the years that I have, I know some of the things that he will face on his own. I ask very little from him and the request to hold on to a job, shouldn't be too much. Oh well, I am feeling better about it than I did earlier in the week. Thank god that time does heal.

Thanks for caring.

Betty, when are you scheduled to get that blasted gallbladder removed. Mine acted like your for off and on for about 3 years. Made me so sick, and then it went acute! Not an experience I want to repeat, I woke up with burning chest pain in the middle of the night. I thought I was having a heart attack, it hurt so bad. Grabbed a baby aspirin and got that down and started to call 911. My oh my the aspirin and my toenails came right back up. I called DH at work and told him to get home, went back to dialing 911. That was an "interesting" experience as the dispatcher was asking me all kind of questions as I am still throwing up to beat the band. At one point she asked me if I was sure I was having a problem.........what a goober! My answer was do you think I'm making throwing up like this, is there something wrong with your hearing???? I was not in the mood for 20 questions, by that time DH was home and took over the phone. He cut thru the bull in about a minute. When they finally got me to the ER, found out it was my gallbladder. They wanted me in for surgery that weekend, so I hustled and located my old surgeon. It was a one day procedure and took me about 8 weeks to fully recover. He did the laproscopy going thru the navel. The gall bladder was loaded with stones and other gunk. But the real kicker was the hernia I didn't know I had under the navel. He fixed that while he was in there. That extended my recovery time. I've got 3 tiny scars right under the area of the gallbladder as he had to go that way because of the hernia.
I feel so much better, since my gallbladder and I have parted company. I can't eat certain fatty foods, for example mayo, just can't digest it properly. But very little else.
Get it done, gurl!!

Ruby, hang tough with your DS. Been there with the oldest one and it was not much fun for either of us, but he finally got it together. I knew we had succeeded when he turned to his younger brother (who was a pain in the tush teen at the time) and said, you better listen! When mom says the older you get the smarter she's gonna be! LOL

Thanks Cathy. I just know that I don't have it in me to be stressed by the frustration of watching him make such poor choices. With him living elsewhere at least I won't be subjected to it each and every day. I too have hopes that he will get himself turned around at some point. It is really hard watching them be miserable too.

Ya'll have a good day.

Ruby

(Cathy), MO

Good morning everyone. Sorry Dawn, I got Laura! :-) Better luck next time!

Ruby, I agree with the others. There comes a time when they have to learn to stand on their own two feet. We aren't doing them any favors by allowing them to be dependent on us. What will they do when we are gone? It may seem mean or cruel, but I believe it's part of a parents responsibilities, to teach your kids how to survive on their own. And they can't learn that living at home until they are 40.

I think most of us either have kids who needed a little push, or still do. I think you are doing the right thing. Just hang on

Glenview, IL

Good Morning, and Happy Spring!!

GG...Thank you for a lovely photo to see.

Wahhhhh, it's snowing in my neck of woods! Ves, How about you??
Awe man suppose to get maybe 10", I am soo hoping it is the last squeeze.

Liz, what a bummer about the new x mgr. Yow, thought she was the answer to situation! Text away..phone is on. Well I do hope your day is a good one, don't let what she or anyone else does upset you...There ARE other ways to handle Stress...so get your fingers moving. Oh my gosh thought about you last night, having late night chat and I hear all this banging around outside...So sneak over to door and look out and couple of raccoons playing in the garbage container!!
O these tow just had a field day as, we had salmon for dinner the other night. I could n't see because it was dark...even ran to get camera, but in the end Mrs. "chicken head" here decided to let them have at it. Finally they were done and went on to the next house. LOL, this morning my neighbor was out cleaning his garbage area, boy the coons really had a feast over there, and they weren't too neat a bout it either, YUK.

Carol, That Bed and Breakfast place is gorgeous! Love the vine growing, Do you know if it flowers. Nice book, maybe I will check the library for it...shhh, I owe about 100 dollars in library fees, so better get that paid up so I can get that book...LOL I am terrible about returning on time. Anyway, Are you getting caught up with things, Bet your birds are glad your home.

Ruby, So sweet to hear about Emily. I am glad you got to visit her. Just love watching those little ones discover what they can do.
Yep, I agree with your decision, will be making one similar in not too far future.
Hang in there, things will turn out good. All in the learning of letting go, I think.
So nice to hear about what sprouting in your gardens, makes one just smile at renewal of life…Oh I just can’t wait!! Afraid I have to though.

Cat, How wonderful about your SP gift from Laura!! Sounds like our Wonder did a beautiful job with her sewing machine!

Dawn, tsk, tsk, told you not to over do it. Now I hope you, get what needs to be done, but
You know if you hurt yourself all is going to stop. Then what? So please take care in all that heavy work…now, do you have a jaccuzzi you can soak in?
LOL, I gave up trying to guess but who ever she is, loves ya just the same.

Wonder, I hope you are enjoying a vacation…

Eegads, I’ve turned into MIL—LOL talking to someone who is not going to answer.
My thought is if you read backwards, I am thinking about ya!

Shar, Hoping you are having a good day, How’s the bathroom going?
Hi Rachie, How are you doing sweetie. Is your weather allowing any time in the gardens yet? If not, whatchya been up to?

Gilli…Hello, how are you doing? Any signs of thawing out for you? I hope you and family are well.

Oh, Doc…You probably get use to the noise after a while. Now do these practices go on spuratically (sp) or do you notice a schedual. Geesh, I think I would go crazy myself…LOL but then you are talking to someone who still jumps when cell phone rings,
ROFL…Anyway, wondering if you were able to locate new heat and lights for your winter sowing. I read your article on the Larry the Peacock. Very nice writing and I did learn a few things. They are magnificent birds. Got to see some very close up at a camp ground. One even opened his tail span. Wow, was that a treat.
How incredibly cool, your are finishing up Master Gardening. LOL, I am but a novice, but I do love talking garden. We’ll have to have a big celebration when your done in Nov.?

Gita, what can I say….glad to hear your ok!

Betty, Betty…it is after 11:00. I hope you are at the Docs. We are concerned for your wellbeing. You know this, everyone has given some great advice because we love you.
I too am waiting anxiously to here what the doc says….

Well, ladies, I am in a whirlwind of emotions. Lots going on at the work front and the home front…Mostly I am having some very intense reflections on people I have lost, all anniversaries and birthdays are at the same time. My moms birthday is tomorrow and as always I will devote my day to her.

So, you my friends can help by taking care of yourselves. I care very much about each of your wellbeings.

So, You all have a great day, and enjoy the beauty of nature on this first day of spring

Smile and armwrap to all.
