Oh my gosh!
It's already 25° here! This is amazing! Remember when we thought 25° was COLD? Now, to me, it means that the spring bulbs are sprouting!
Whoo Hoo!
Today's Weather in Your Garden - 15
Pixie - I clearly remember when your sunset was 3:59. Yipee for 6:58!!!!
Now 34 degrees means time to shower and get dressed to go out when it hits 40. It's great without any wind or strong breezes.
Pirl, I love the extra daylight hours! It's so nice to start a project and not have to hurry to finish because of the dark.
I bet you do! Who wouldn't?
39 and sunny. Hope to do something in the garden this PM if my kids cooperate.
It is sunny & 40--DavidPaul, I live up in NW Ct & have many clumps of tulips up, & 1 clump of hyacinths--quite a few daffs & 2 crocus bloomed yesterday--they'll all be fine! There must be antifreeze in them, just like skunk cabbage!
Welcome to DG and the Northeast forum, the best of all forums.
Welcome ge!
Welcome ge and the photo is very encouraging! I'm still waiting to see more of the earth than snow, it's a slow process here.
Welcome ge!! You'll love it here.
Welcome ge to our little corner of DG. Windows open at night, oh what a wonderful thought. Looks like spring is pushing winter away there too. :)
Mid 40's and sunny. About to get outside and do my first bit of cleaning up.
Robindog....you're ahead of me on daffs and hyacinths. Are yours repeats? First year I've planted them so I'm wondering if that is why I'm behind. We're near the shore so its a little microclimate here, most things are slightly earlier than just 5 miles north. Species crocus, a few c. flavus Yellow Mammoth, snowdrops and just two days ago, muscari are in bloom but still waiting on the big vernus crocus and scilla.
The first year just might lag a little bit behind the rest, DP.
Hi ge and welcome! Where in NY is Pittsford? I'm In the mid-Hudson region about 12 miles south of Poughkeepsie and just a couple of miles north of I-84.
Currently 45 degrees and sunny. After such a cold start this AM, it certainly turned into a nice day. Too bad I had to spend it doing a Wal-Mart run! Did stop into the gardening section (not much of anything yet) and also a Home Depot (dismal offerings there, too) to get some more orchid medium. The warmer weather always gets me going with re-potting. The forecast is fro rain/snow tonight but I'm not expecting any type of accumulation. How about those of you north of me? Just when you begin to see some green.... - Lynn
Think it's not too far from Rochester. 47 and sunny here. Did about 1 1/2 hrs of cleanup today. First of many days.
Welcome ge.
You're not too awfully far from where I live. Pittsford is in the Rochester area, Victor. There are a lot of gorgeous homes up there, and people from the Rochester area keep their lawns and gardens lovely. Flower City.
they have a lilac festival in May!
Yes, they do, and it's wonderful.
Have you been mrsj? How about you ge?
We go at least every other year, and I've been going to the festival since I was a child.
And I buy a new lilac each time I go.
Polly - I used to go every few years with Mom until I moved out here! She was born in Rochester.....it was an annual tradition!
It's a great tradition! My daughter and grandkids go with us, too. Great entertainment, great food, and best of all great lilacs. I did miss Martha Stewart, there, last year, though, shucks.
Welcome ge!!
Harper
Hi ge - I'm not far from you in Henrietta, and yes the lilac festival starts May 9th I think.
Yes, here's a link
http://www.lilacfestival.com/
I actually like to go outside the festival time when there are fewer crowds.

We like to go a few times a year, to see what's in bloom. I love the Louisiana Iris gardens. And they are not in bloom during the festival.
I usually go at least 4x year too, to see everything. Now I need to look up Hannibal.
Sounds wonderful! I've always wanted to hit the orchid shows in NYC. Missed the local one in spring this year due to a mini-reunion. I'm trying to make up for it by ordering from some of my favorite on-line retailers!
There are so many beautiful areas in NYS, I wish I had enough time to visit them all! I am very curious whether anyone here knows anything about Fishs Eddy in Delaware County? (Sorry to be off topic for our non-NY friends!) Perhaps you can Dmail me so as not to bore others. Thanks!) - Lynn
The orchid show in the Bronx botanical is very nice & very big, lots of hard to find orchids for sale. ☺
Temp 38.6°, Wind S 8.7mph, Wchill 29.5°, ☺
Whaaaa, it's not over yet, either. I gotta go! I gotta go!
Goes through sometime in April. I hope to get there too. Then there is the biggie in Rocky Ctr.
Rocky Ctr?
Oops - just checked and for some reason there will not be a Greater NY Orchid Society Show this year. First time in 27 years. Bummer. I'll have to email my friend and find out why.
Tease!
Sorry! It was always spectacular. I went to a number of the preview parties.
La, la, la... not listening...
40 and cloudy. Sun breaking through.
Not a chance of any sun here if the forecast is correct. Rats. Earlier this week I heard this afternoon would be in the 50's but now we'll have rain. Of course, I do have an old raincoat I could wear outside as I continue to clean up. It's so great to see the new plants emerging from the soil.
Rain showers this am. Temp is already mid thirties so starting out about 10 degrees higher than the last few days. Should hit 50 if the sun comes back this afternoon. Not much a breeze.
I woke up to snow.
Oh, no! Pixie said the "S" word!!!!
It's 42 here with sun. I don't think there was any rain here last night or this AM. The radar shows some stuff out to the west, but there's nothing in our forecast. Woo hoo! I'm gonna do some yard work this afternoon.
