I have neither problem, just the lack of that teenager who was supposed to help me.
Today's Weather in Your Garden - 15
I planted sponges to soak up the mud.
33 and cloudy.
36.5 here and an 80% chance of rain for today though right now the skies are bright.
Today started out in the low twenties when I went for coffee but is already pushing 40 degrees with sunshine. Rain showers this pm and snow/rain tomorrow. Milder next week. Have you noticed how quickly it warms up now thanks to the higher sun? Oh yes we are heading in the right direction now. :)
33 and cloudy right now. We're also supposed to have rain later and the forecast for tonight is calling for maybe a wintry mix. I thought March was supposed to come in like a lion and go out like a lamb.
The water table is quite high in my area. When we had a stump removed a few years ago, the hole filled with water! My woods are actually more like bottom lands and the swale is more of a feeder stream to the creek. It's running pretty good right now, too. When we have a good amount of rain and the swale can't drain quickly because the water keeps seeping up, the mallard ducks feed and swim back there. So cute!
I checked the blue bird house yesterday and the little guys have built a nest! At least they claimed the nesting box before the chickadees, swallows and wrens found it. I'll need to find a mirror to see if they've laid any eggs or if it's still too early.

It is 39 & cloudy, rain in the offing. Visited all the roses yesterday & was amazed by how little die-off there was. Had to dig up 2--a 30 year old rugosa that was not blooming much because of increased shade (&also a hazard by the drive) & something the birds planted (or mice) that was taking down a wall & fence with its roots. I have no rose that looks like it---the hip was not true to parent, I guess. Srarted to clean up a little--does anyone know how to get rid of wisteria? It is choking my climbing roses, pulled the screen from the garage window, & was under a shutter. I keep cutting it, but that only makes it grow better!
A DEC person I know once said that if need be, get Round Up or Brush B Gone and paint it on the offending plant - don't spray it. That way you can target exactly the thing you want to eradicate and not everything else. Years ago, Agway used to sell a product called ammate which was effective on poison ivy and you had to do the same thing. I have sumac that comes up in the corner by my garage, and for years I would cut it down or dig it up, only to find it growing again. I got smart and followed the advice but cuting it and then painting the cut with Brush B Gone. Voila! Maybe that would work?
47 and raining lightly. There has been another major jump according to the hummingbird map. All the way to S. Jersey!

I bought two red glass HB feeders a few weeks ago at the flower show and this weekend I got brackets to hang them from. A good thing as they appear to be well on their way. I love this map feature. I would assume they are still 2 weeks away. I have never had them in Nantucket in my yard. So I think it is about time. I am planting more goodies for them, but not yet.
Today was a boring and tiring day of pulling out an old nasty rusty fence and more yard cleaning. I was able to cut out some good sections of the old fence to reuse for cages for all my new shrubs that Victor made me order. I came in and immediately got out the product that Victor recommended to me for PI. Tecnu, I am hopeful. Threatening rain all day, but just overcast and mid 40's. I need a good week of weather to finish up most of my spring list and a cooperative DH to help. Patti
I recommended today's rain for your garden, Patti.
Boy those little guys just keep moving north don't they. Totally overcast now, the rain won't be far behind. Temp got up to 52 but has dropped back to 46 now without the sun.
Victor, So where is it? The rain. Not the PI. Patti
On its way, like the hummers.
I looked at window hummer feeders today, want to pick one up soon.
The weather just said 3-6 inches of snow overnight south of Rochester.
The suns peeking out and 43 now, I'm going out.
It's 45 here and sunny. Snow tonight and tomorrow 3-5" expected.
Snow here tonite and tomorrow. Rats I'll hafta drive in it tomorrow. Patti, more piles in VT!
Cheer up I think the ground is warm enough and the temps return to 40"s The three inches we are supposed to get tonight won't last long.
Boojum--the snow shouldn't stick and you will be driving away from it. Bought cider for meeting today. As a non coffee drinker I feel we should offer an alternate.
I know the snow won't last, I'm just too excited for a few warm, sunny days in a row.
MMMM. Cider!
Love cider!

mmmmmmmmmmmm, do I detect cider and Iris combo? If so, nothing will stop Boojum from the drive. Patti
That's right! Encourage her--she is giving the program.
OK, spell the rhizomes. When, what and where. Patti
Program on Sat. afternoon. Bedford Town Center--Bedford. MA for ISM (Iris Society of Mass) visitors welcome. Starts at noon. Boojum can cover up her ears during the business meeting.
Looking forward to showing pics of my irises and gardens. Hope people are innerested!
Sposta be an 80% chance of 4-6 inches during the day tomorrow and the morning commute is sposta be slick. I'm not up for getting up earlier than 5 AM to water orchids, shovel snow and clean car, and walk and feed the dog. Then slide to work. I sure hope they got it wrong. My DBF is in Philadelphia so no help there. I'm really a lousy single person, I'm finding. Totally spoiled!! I'm not worried about Saturday cause it won't be snowing and I'm getting a ride with Debbie W.
Preview of a pic for the show.
Victor:
Thanks for the link to the hummer map. Looking at last year's map, the little guys should be here in about a month. I usually see the first one around Mother's Day, although last year it was a week before Mother's Day.
I showed the map to hubby since he has become enamored with the little jewels. He has made some fantastic recordings of them at our feeders. I try to keep some real plants nearby to help attract them to his feeders. The problem is, the male hummers are so territorial that they spend a great deal of time chasing each other away! I figure we should see them in about 2 weeks, also.
Currently 44 degrees here and it looks like a lot of nastiness headed our way. Good thing it's been so warm!
Victor - thanks for that great hummingbird link! Jeez......I better start packing in order to beat them home and have their feeders all out by the time they get there!
I like the sound of some of those temps you are having up there (except for Pixie's S.__W) I love sleeping with the windows open, and it's about to be too warm for that here. Also, with the warm temps come the slithering black "good for your garden" creatures. Yikes.......I just hate being surprised by them! That long skinny one I posted a picture of on Thanksgiving met his cruel demise on the sidewalk in front of our house when he ran into "New Midnight" the Cat from across the street. I wanted my DH to give Skinny a proper burial, but he was not willing to do more than provide a bit of a surprise for the garbage guy. I, of course, was not about to be a person of my own convictions. Chicken with a Capitol C!!!
Candyce - your walk with your little companion sounds like fun! It brought a smile when you described the rock inspection. Know it well! And I'm often the one doing the inspecting! Is there a gardener alive who doesn't like unusual stones and rocks??? I really love the ones with the pink veins in them. New England has wonderful stones and rocks to play with. Can you tell I'm missing it?? I will say it again.....Cancers should not be snowbirds!! LOL ....By the way....please ignore the photo that is posted here. It was a mistake and I can't get rid of it......it is a photo of a walking stick my DH made from a length of calomondin citrus wood; I meant to post a different photo. Oh well!
ngam deserves the credit. She was the first to provide the link.
I must have missed ngam's post. sorry
I just got all excited when I see the hummers were spotted in south jersey..... YEAH... almost here
Lucky you!
Let us know when you see them.
Temp 43.5°, Wind ESE 0.0. ☺
We did get 3-4 inches of snow overnight but it's 33 now with a high of 37 today, warmer tomorrow.
39 and cloudy. Had some rain overnight. Supposed to get more.
Hope the snow melts quickly, enough already. It is going to be much milder next week so a lot of melting then for you up north I hope. Not so bad here, rain over night and cloudy with occasional showers. Chilly 34 degrees, dark and dreary.
