yes dh did drill 4 holes in both sides already, thanks
Best/Worse and What did I learn today? Friends pt.35
Betty, don't order from FURminator - too expensive. Try Amazon.com or eBay.
Liz, now that you and Judy are into woodworking will have to find another project for you...maybe your better halves would rather I didin't..lol
Betty, I went back and copied your directions for the birdfeeder. On the magazine picture it looks like they have plants on top. This looks like a little cottage they had down at the Botanical Gardens in Norfolk. The entire top of the cottage is planted with various succulent ground covers. it looks like moss from a distance. I'll have to post a picture of it tonight when I get home. I would LOVE to do this to my shed but it would be too heavy plus I don't think they'd survive our winters.
Good Morning!
LOL Betty, Don't think he would mind...cuz he gets to "show" me how to use tools. I told him how I used the table saw. Oh goodness, very stearn look. Giggles, he is right got to be very careful.
Well, bummer about those calls...Plus with the time change, you sleep is messed up. Takes me a couple days to get used to it.
Liz, Mine is made of Cedar, another wood I can't bring myself to paint over. So I am going to Sand it and Seal it like we do our Decks. Let it weather naturally and Then I can powerwash wash it and poof, looks brandnew again.
...Your stained glass pieces are nice, now is that everything you need for Windchime? You and Betty can finish those up...waiting anxiously to see them finished!
GG...FURminator...how cute. You all have fun, I remember, used to love brushing the family pup...lots of fur all over, but i guess if you do it often it's not so bad.
OK MUST get coffee, LOL
Enjoy the day!
Jeannine, this feeder cannot be hung just way too big..is meant to be on a 4x4..was thinking that once it's planted with succulents that I may bring the top in (just sits on the base) for the winter and see if I can't keep them alive...hope you got instructions further down the list as there was changes to one of the cuts..was a fun project and I can't wait to install it outside..please let it be spring..
Ruby, thought I'd post some hints seeing you've started the spring cleaning and we're right there behind you thinking of ways to tidy up as well...
10 Spring Cleaning and Organizing Tips
by Maria Gracia
Along with Spring comes thoughts of crisp, fresh air, newly budding flowers, singing birds and a sense of renewal. Getting organized and doing a bit of spring cleaning, helps to bring that wonderful fresh feeling into your home and office.
Here are 10 tips to help you start the season off right.
ASSIGN YOURSELF A DIFFERENT TASK FOR EACH DAY.
Make yourself a schedule that is comprised of one hour and one task each day. Your schedule may look something like this:
Monday: Decluttering
Tuesday: Dusting
Wednesday: Vacuuming
Thursday: Scrubbing
Friday: Organizing and Rearranging
Saturday: Laundering
Sunday: Decorating
Then, spend one hour each day doing your assigned task for each room, throughout your house. You'll be amazed at the difference you can make in your home by following this simple system.
USE THE PROPER TOOLS. When cleaning and organizing, it's important to use tools that help you get the job done as quickly as possible.
For instance, there are now dusting cloths that allow you to dust quickly and easily, without any additional sprays. Just dust and be done with it.
Rubber gloves will help you deep clean, without drying out your hands, exposing them to harsh chemicals, or burning them in hot water.
Racks can hold mops, brooms and other cleaning supplies in one organized place, rather then storing them loose and having them constantly tip over.
An apron with lots of pockets, can help you transport cleaning products from room to room easily, so you don't have to keep running back and forth to get what you need.
BE RUTHLESS WHEN IT COMES TO DECLUTTERING. If you don't love it, and/or you don't use it, it's clutter. It's the perfect time to embrace the Feng Shui art of uncluttered living. Feng Shui teaches that if energy can easily flow through a room, your life will be more harmonious and happy--and clutter is an obstacle to reaching this relaxed and calm state.
Make it a quest of yours to be ruthless when it comes to your decluttering efforts. You'll have less to dust, less clutter to look it, an easier time finding the things you do use and less stress in your life.
DONATE OR SELL THE THINGS YOU DON'T USE. If you have items that you don't use, but are in good condition, they are prime candidates to sell or donate. Gather all of these items together in boxes or plastic bags.
Then, decide whether you would prefer to donate them or sell them.
If you choose to donate, consider giving them to your local Salvation Army, or perhaps even a shelter or orphanage in town. Many of these organizations will even pick up your donations for you.
If you choose to sell, you might set a date for a yard sale. Or, take some photos of these items with your digital camera, and put them up for sale at an online auction Web site.
MAKE YOUR SPRING CLEANING AND ORGANIZING FUN. Don't think of it as a chore. Instead, think of it as a 'feel good' exercise--one that will really help you to feel good about yourself and your clean and organized environment.
Play some lively, fun, upbeat music. Dance your way through your home or office with your dust rag or vacuum.
Get the family involved. Give everyone a task, and then do something relaxing afterwards, like watching a movie together or going to the park for a walk.
Set timers and play 'beat the clock.' Give yourself time limits for completing small tasks, and try to complete those tasks before the timer goes off.
Ask a friend to help, or do a swap. You clean her living room if she'll clean your kitchen.
ELIMINATE DISTRACTIONS. Turn off the TV while you're cleaning and organizing, and let your answering machine field your calls.
If a friend stops by while you're working, simply tell him/her that you've scheduled this time for spring cleaning. He or she is free to stay, as long as you could continue working. Perhaps, you might even get some help. If not, tell your friend you'll stop by his or her house later on when you're done.
If you have kids, give them their own jobs to do, or at minimum, be sure they're occupied with something else.
The quickest and best jobs are accomplished when there are no distractions.
MAKE YOURSELF A CHECKLIST. Make a checklist of all springtime jobs that you only do once or twice a year.
Perhaps you might bring your large comforters to the laundromat, bring your drapes, and winter coats, to the dry cleaners, store your winter clothes and bring your warm-weather clothes out of hiding or check the smoke detectors.
If all of these odd jobs are on a list, you won't forget to do them. Then, try to do at least one or two of these odd jobs per week, throughout spring.
DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE INSIDES. It's important to clean and organize things that are in sight all of the time. But, it's also important to remember those items that are out of sight.
Spring is a great season to organize your closets, cabinets, drawers, bins, boxes, pantry and other inside storage areas.
Give yourself that spring feeling, both inside and out!
ENJOY THE WEATHER WHILE YOU'RE WORKING. Do some outside organizing and yard work, so you can be accomplishing something, but also enjoying the nice weather at the same time.
Gather your gardening and planting supplies in one place. Replace old and broken tools. Perhaps you might even get a gardening caddie to store your good gardening tools.
Clean the garage. Keep the garage door open while you're doing so, so that you can enjoy the nice weather.
10. OPEN YOUR WINDOWS. There's nothing like taking in a breath of fresh air. As you're cleaning, open the windows. You'll be removing musty winter odors, protecting yourself from inhaling harsh fumes from cleaning products and the fresh air will keep you going.
While you're at it, let the sun shine in. Open curtains and drapes to give yourself plenty of light, for an energy boost.

I want to add a #11
Or....just sit in your clutter and be happy! Oh and open the windows so all your neighbors can hear you if you call for help!
Sorry....Marcia just sounds too perky for me!! :) LOLOLOL
I'm so laughing Jeannine..
I can get sidetracked so I get her monthly checklist and when the day items pertain to me, I do them, when they don't then I add something in to do..know it's crazy, but it keeps me in tune and fairly organized..I do try to do my daily activity or else I can't play..lol

You go girl!
Me? From reading the March schedule of "events", I picture a perky little Martha Stewart type just flitting thru each room of her house with a feather duster in one hand and a Blackberry in the other.....
hahah, GG. think, I live by your #11.
Dunno, I am lost if things are too organized. Tried to keep a schedual and such, but I find if I have a checklist...I put it off.
LOL, When we want to do a deep clean, we have a Party! Then everything gets done and everyone helps.
Would you believe a paint brush in one hand and a hammer in the other..lol
Judy, lol, isn't that the truth..Roger couldn't understand it..he always said why don't you wait till AFTER the party and then you save one cleaning..men..how could you invite guests into your home and not tidy/tidy up...I'm great with the surface..you walk in (other than my craft room) and everything is in it's place..however, I wouldn't open the odd closet door...
Must tell you a story, I was 17 when we married - Roger 22..he'd been living on his own since he was 16, me, I moved in the day we married with no cooking/cleaning experience..why Grandma did everything for me, I wouldn't even make my bed..she just wanted me to study and have things easy..well, it was great, but, I didn't learn any life skills that way, so really it was so hard when I first got married...
We rented a 2 bedroom apartment and it was spotless (should be because everything was put in the closets) anyway, had company coming over, I was so proud of my cleaning endeavours...guess to teach me a lesson when the guests arrived and rang the bell to access the building, he opened the closet and let everything fall out...&*&%
I wasn't impressed, guests weren't impressed and he found out that's not the way to get things done..but he and I both learnt a lesson that day..big oaff..
hahah, Betty
What a funny story. LOL and a way to learn something.
...Good gosh, I love when everything has a place, LOL when I was home in the summer...Was a wonderful thing unitl I start getting anel about placement and order of things. The family justs laughs and tells me it is time to go back to work!
I have a phobia I'm sure, I check everything in the morning just to make sure allis in place so that if anything happened to me, it would be clean..I make my bed as one foot hits the floor..I think that if I didn't make my bed I couldn't function knowing it was unmade and would have to go home and make it..funny how we all have something unusual we do..what's yours??? could be the question for today..lol
Liz, found this on drilling glass..not much info, but could help..have a damp sponge underneath, probably one of the shammies that you wash car with, has a bit of give and keeps the water so that the glass won't break...
http://www.nickates.com/pages/Drilling_Glass_Video.html
Socks!! They have to be matched perfectly,
This is how bad it is....I go by the foot print on bottom of sock.
LOL, and just to prove how insane I am I really actually have a picture!!
I only match socks when every one is completely out of them
hahha, I call the sock bragade. Takes several hours to undertake this
lol..now that's a pile of socks..I have a girlfriend who makes a a stitch or two in different colors on each sock for each family member..says it helps her out tremendously...
I once heard a poem on lost socks, thought it was the funniest thing I'd ever heard..it was about the washing machine/dryer eating them up..never to be found again...
Suzanne in with client till 1:30 and then another client came in without appt. so we're running late for lunch..but that's ok..if we leave at 2:30 until 3:30 that will only leave us 1 1/4 hrs. till home time..will be nice getting home and still having some daylight..
Betty,
That article about the lost socks was by Erma Bombeck. I have it cut out--somewhere.....Since i save everything......It was sooo funny!
I bet if you Google Erma Bombeck--or--just google "lost socks" you might find it. Maybe I will do it as soon as I send this off.....Now I feel all challenged!!!!
She was one amazing writer! Many of her things ran in the "Readers Digest". SO funny!
Gita
morning all.
had a rotten nights sleep, sont know why, lots of nightmares. dont oyu hate that??
no parcels yet betty, you kow how the post is....... sorry
going to craft class this week. thinking of trying to make some bibs and also some burp blankets for my youngest daughter.
we went out for dinner last night, DH, DD (youngest) and her partner and he proposed!! so she has a nice ting on her finger now which i am happy about.
My DH is talking about us renewing our wedding vows on my 50th in july!! wont that be nice?
betty those phone calls sound aweful!! gosh....
the birdfeeders look amazing.. what tallent!
as for spring cleaning... the mind is willing but the flesh is week! lol needs it tho,
i need to strip the kitchen and wash the walls.... they are just getting yuk!!
well you all have a good day...
xxx
Hi gang! Sorry that I haven't been around for a few weeks. Life has been extremely busy and I just have not had the time to be on DG that I would like. Thanks to Judy and Betty for dropping me a dmail to make sure that I was o.k.
So can someone give me the quick and dirty of what I have missed? You have all been in my daily thoughts and prayers. I have missed chatting, I just can't keep up with the thread sometimes. Hope you don't mind if I have to pop in and out from time to time. I am still participating in the secret pal exchange. Miss you. Love and hugs, Rachel
Rachel..you pop in when you get the change and if there's a big 'to do' we'll d-mail you..lol...just don't want to loose touch with you..it would be like a member of the family missing...
Came home and it's wonderful to travel with the roads bare, sunshine and it still being light outside..
I found a surprise left for me today by June, must go call her..a lovely pair of slippers...did need a new pair so it was much appreciated...
She is working on a floormat, not yet finished but I'll give you a preview, as well, a couple of girls are painting butterfly houses and a large butterfly will grace the painting next week..talented bunch..
Had salad for lunch, trying to get to know what I can eat or not..guess salad wasn't anything I should have had either..called Greg to come pick up the stew (made enough for 10) and now that I can't eat it - will go to waste, but Kyle and Noah are in Meaford till Wednesday for March Break, Greg working late and Mel going out with the girls....so warming it up and will try to freeze some of it..if it's not gallbladder then it will be there for me to eat..
Suzanne and I were gabbing on the way home, she said she knew of no use for 'appendix' any idea why it's in our body..lol
Laura, how wonderful, sewing, doing Grandma things for the baby and how happy you must be that DD got engaged and you were there for the event...so, when will the wedding be???? spring??? hopefully they are allowing time to prepare...
Gita went and checked the site..read what she had to say about socks, was similar to the one I had heard, don't think it's the same though..think we all have that in common right, a zillion socks that don't match...know as soon as I throw them all out I'll find the matches...
Best..sunny day, no worries about travelling...
Worse..Paul being ill - flu/cold and his arm is bothering him..he must spend 3 days in hospital starting Wedn. morning so they can assess how much permanent damage has been done re his accident of last year...
What did I learn..friends that went away with Paul/Wilena to Jamaica were going because there is mega marriage difficulties since Jason their son hung himself last fall ..thought if they were away maybe talking with Paul that things might start to improve..I always laugh, when Roger was alive, all went to him for help, now Paul has taken over..we call him the 'GODFATHER' and they are not far wrong..he looks after everyones needs in the family and circle of friends...good guy!
Yucky tummy, tired old lady..already bathed and ready for bed..no sleep last night so lets hope I have a good nights rest tonight.. if not, I'll be back..lol..
I am tired today! Did not sleep well last night. Then had to get up at 7:15AM...had a Dr.s appointment at 10AM. Then home--and off to another appointment with my Insurance Company. Changing my car insurance over....
Tomorrow--the same thing! 2 Appointments and then I have to work 3-10PM. There goes the whole day!
Plugging away translating my Aunt's Diary. Slow going--can't always read her hand-writing! These paged are dingy copies of the Steno pad she used to write in. I can do about 2 pages (both sides--so 4 pages) at one sitting.
Have 36 done----100 more to go!!! No hurry!
I find it slightly obsessive to do this, as it is a window in her life i did not know all the facts about either. I liked my Aunt a lot! She was always a free spirit and the greatest optimist I have ever known. He (my Uncle) milked every drop of life out of her with his neediness and dependency and demands and jealousy.....UGH! I know he was sick--but he was so very manipulative! She almost wasted away to skin and bones catering to his every, ungrateful need. After he died (1991) she slowly recovered, only to die a year later after she got hit by a car.
I always believed "HE" could not even live without her "up there" (I think he was more, like--DOWN there!)--even in death, and took her to be with him.....Just a psycho belief......
Don't get me started!!!!!! Gita
Hi Rachel. So good to see you! You know you just pop in to say hi when you can. You know us chatter all day if we could, LOL.

Gita, I am sure you are tired. Sounds pretty busy. I hope the traslation goes well considering what you have to work with.
I am sorry for your loss. She sounds like a remarkable woman.
Betty, Those are really cool Slippers! Hope you get a good nights sleep.
Well, MIL went home this eve. Came home from work and her and Dh were at differences of opinion. All i can say is I should have stayed home. he is not going to be awarded good nurse of the day. But I do know he tried his best to make her comfortable. And well, she is not liking that the kids won't drop their routine because she is here. So it's best she decided to go home. We'll adjust so we can go help her with stuff, shopping etc... I am ok with this she was cruising pretty well and able to hop much better then when she arrived.
So i haven't slept to well in last couple of days with her here, so I hope I will tonight.
Hi to all...Still working on my project. So will see you all later.
I love that building at the garden Gita. I want it in my yard.

I was winter sowing again yesterday.
Too much to comment on guys so I will just say hi.
Laura ya know I am sorry that I never did tell you I am so sorry about the baby. I heard it after the fact but never gave my condolenses. I am sure that is even tougher during this hard time with all the other stuff to boot. We always grieve more for our kids.
Cool bird houses. I want to make one too. Really.
Judy- Thanks a million for catching me up to speed.
Shar- Read you article about "recycled books" and loved it! Cute pics of Ethan as well. You take care and follow doctors orders.

Way too much to read this morning. Busy morning and day here. No organizing for me today. I see a doctor at 8 AM and have a funeral of childhood friend at 10. Back home for a bit and then to take son to get his taxes prepared at 2 PM today.
I will check in later if I have time. I hope that you all will have a great day.
Ruby
Should be having a slumber party as we are all having difficulties sleeping lol..just went out and started the car, not quite as cold today, calling for sunshine and some snow but not until later in the day..Carol sure knew when to leave the country, she's bathing in sunshine..hope her visit brings much joy!
Judy thanks for updating Rachel..wow, you have our lives all down pat..always nice to be back to normal..when another person joins the group it can be very disruptive..sounds as though you are back on track..you should have given her your load of socks to match, that may have kept her busy..
Jejannine, love those buildings, wow, that's a lot of plants..must have a metal roof underneath the soal otherwise it wouldn't take much with rain rotting the upper roof..must be amazing in full color!
Ours are not that elaborate, but we'll enjoy them when planted..I'll be scrounging succulents and maybe some alpines from friends..thanks for sharring!
Dawn, will have to make a point of checking out what penstomon flowers are..yes the birdfeeder would look lovely in the new garden area you are creating, so get those tools out..
Gita, your cousin will be so thrilled to get the pages translated..know its a difficult process both emotionally and of course trying to figure out the meaning and the writting..can hear the love you have for your dear Aunt..hope your Dr. appts. are just routine and you are not ill???
Laura, some times when the pressure changes migraines come full force..do hope you daughter is feeling better today and you'll get to visit....sure sounds as though you are enjoying sewing...had so hoped it would arrive, sent it out same say as Shar and she received hers awhile back...hope somebody as post office didn't take a liking to them..lol
Ruby, all the painting done?? must look amazing..photo's please..did enjoy the one you posted of kitchen..
Sitting here waiting for my call from Suzanne, not sure where I'm meeting her today...got the garbage to the roadside..still tired out..of course got a call at 10:30 cancelling a 3:00pm appt. today..not their fault they just think they'll get the office and leave a message and are surprised by a human answering their call..another 2 or 3 weeks and I'll no longer switch it here..it's only done as a precaution incase of bad weather..it's just once you are awaken, sometimes you just cannot fall asleep..
Liz, found another beautiful stained glass windchime..I'll post it this morning..it's on work computer..posting the acrylic ice cream soda glasses...if you have trouble with the glass ones, I'll send you a couple..bought a few boxes of them just in case I got energetic...also bought 12 of those large cups/saucers...I've glued them together, need to purchase some large spoons and glue them inside the cup, make the underneath holder and there you go, another birdfeeder....
Shar, how are you feeling today
Ruby, sorry to hear about your childhood friend..was it a long illness....hope your appt. with the Dr. goes well..is this where you are asking for the tatoo? I'm sure you need a break from painting, cleaning and organizing..guess you would say the organizer you hired proved to be successful in as much as she got your mojo working? Thoughts and prayers are with you today...
Still waiting for Suzanne's call..maybe she slept in..I'll wait a few more minutes and give her a call...

my boss had to take register readings every so many hours, well my boss told me that we would be staying till close so a hour and a half of overtime.
well 30 minutes from closing this he/she comes in now dont get me wrong i just love them to death there alot of fun and most of my customers tell me of their personal lives.
but this one had a horrible degrating attitude,he insisted on all thease products for 6 students to do nails on clients we did not have alot of what he wanted,
but he snipped at us and said look get me started with only what i need for tomorrow.
as we helped him it was going on 6.15 so he is now on our time, our district mgr needed the final reading, so we asked him to please pay, he flipped and told my co worker to tell the district mgr to f.off and that he was more importaint that the reading and thats why he hates to go into stores. well i hope we never see him again, and to think he represents one of the largest professional hair co and he is a instructor for one of the school academys. but the best part of the day is our district mgr told us that we won in the district with our sales for the day at 10.000 and that is alot of hair products!!!
hello, cat, tropicanna gilli, and carol having a good time
ooooh show me pictures im so excited forgot how tired i am cool
judy, for goodness sake wake up!!!!! another project look how much fun this will be!!!!
Gita, think they have to get a lawn mower up there to mow the roof? LOL! Our family is hoping to do a cruisetour up to Alaska next summer. Not sure if we will be able to afford it for 4. If not, we're going to go down to St. John! How was Alaska in the summer? Did it stay light all the time? What time of the summer did you go?
Betty, I'm not sure what the roof is made of but the plants are in individual black plastic trays like the ones at the garden centers. They are filled with crushed paver stone so I know each tray weighs a lot.
Well I'm here. Judy you did a bang up job on our llives. LOL Sat. My sinuses started to kicki in. NOt a good time for that to happen. But they weren't too bad yet. The kids got here around supper time. So they were running late. My mood wasn't the best by then. But she seems real nice and they are happy and will be up again on sunday and hopefully my sinuses will behave. She loves apple pie so I know what a good treat is for her. She grew up mostly with cats but wants a Chiwowow! I know spelling is a tad off.
I just hope she decides to move up here and not go to S. Carolina permanently. She quit her job so has no job to go back to. Keeping fingers crossed.
Now I have read all and didn't remember much because of my head hurting so much. But the birdfeeders are beautiful and I know I had cut out a picture of one before.
Laure hope your DD is better soon and you can go to your class. Sounds as if you are enjoying it so much.
Liz what a day you had yesterday! Don't know if it was a good ending or a bad ending to it. I willchoose the good. Good job on the sales. That's a verrrry busy day! Can you feel your feet?
Betty are you feeling better today? Have you found much you can eat?
Ruby I didn't get my stuff done I wanted because of the dumb head, So now I feel behind.
Love the building with the plants on it. Thanks for posting those.
Did get most of my seeds started saturday. Had to move the big plant upstairs to get them under the lights. Now I have to move some more stuff. Oh lordy I am not ready for this. Doing it yes but not where everything has to go.
Well will work on it today. Head seems okay! Later am going to check out another dog. Then will tell DH about it and if it is still available will look thurs. night.
I'd better go and get things set up properly. Here's 3 of the 4 big plants I moved. They will spend the summer outside.
Just checking in quickly again. I attached a picture of me with the first pike of the day.
We set up the inflatable pool in the basement yesterday so the kids could have a little 'swim'. It's nice to have them here but I have been kept fairly busy. We're planning on going to the store today and maybe getting out with the snowshoes. We're looking forward to a nice fish dinner tonight.
Rach - It's nice to hear that you're doing okay, if very busy. I've been hoping all was well.
I think he would of liked to eat my goldfish! LOL
