Not me, got my eyes closed tight...can't bear to read my own confessions, especially since the list keeps growing.
what have you bought so far? part 2
Victor- LMAO...I just read your article...I have tears in my eyes...I think you could have just dmailed me and said, "Dear Thom....(insert article)....From Victor"
LOL.
It's so true. so so so true.
My stomach hurts. I just, for s and g's, looked at all of my e-receipts...lol. When these deliveries do come...oye. That's not even including the rocks that are being delivered, the renting of the sod cutter, the concrete that is being poured, the fence that needs to go up, or the soil that is being delivered....
Reality sucks...lol.
Confession time again: Got hooked by the Ensata closeout daylilies and ordered:
4 Designer Gold (two for my mom)
2 Yazoo Wedding Petticoat
1 Double Phelan
1 American Original (last one they had!)
1 Canadian Border Patrol
1 Yazoo Wild Violet
I just discovered The Dread Lily Auction via this thread - thanks, no really, thanks a lot! Dangerous!
Oh dear- I found Koi Gardens w/a great sale on Clems, so I ordered C. 'Pink Flamingo', C. 'Freckles', C. 'Allanah' and C. x fargesioides. Theeeennnnn, I found C. flammula at Brushwood, and Akebia quinata 'Alba', which I've never seen here, and Actinidia kolomikta, which oddly enough no nurseries had this year. I'm turning into a preferred customer at Lazy S's, and Annie's annuals. That's all I'll admit to for now!
Thanks Thom!
Do any of you terrors happen to have a photo of your booty last year at delivery time? (Got an article in the works... but I didn't have a digital camera yet when this happened to me!)
x, Carrie
Goodies, bounty, orders, treasures, and don't call yourself that. x, Carrie
Wasn't Victor asking for a picture of someone's big booty recently also? (i think he said he didn't have any pictures of his own...)
You could, but I might not want a picture of it, at least not for the article I'm thinking of. :)
I'm speaking to the lady over there who's slurring in her drink.

LOL we're having Pork Chops. But we have schicken frequently. x, Carrie
Carrie, I read your request too quickly and thought you asked for a body picture at delivery (of a baby) so you really had me thinking what is she writing?!
Right, I'm writing a 500 - 1000 word article for a gardening website (The Gardening Website) with pictures about how a baby is planted, fertilized, watered, fed, and deadheaded! LOL! xx, Carrie
My mail lady (who unfortunately retired in Dec.) would sneak my plant pkgs to me knowing how my Hubby felt about them--so I try to destroy the evidence, not take pictures of it! Don't know who I can bribe this yr. to get my plants into the garden unseen! And speaking of plants, am ordering just 1 from Ensata----HaHa.
Maybe she could toot her horn and you could meet her around the block and unload the plants when you send hubby to the store?
Robin, just one? Boy you have some great control!!!!!!!!
Well, i finally spent a little money - about $13 at WalMart last night.
i bought seeds:
Summer Dreams cosmos (my favourites from last year - i haven't found them anywhere else) ($1.50/pk)
Sensation mix cosmos ($.97)
Disco Mix marigolds - the same kind that grew like crazy for me last year ($1.50)
Victoriana mix dahlias - the single kind, worth a try ($1.50)
Viscaria - couldn't get a single one to come up last year, apparently i am also a masochistic gardener ($1.50)
Sweet basil ($.97)
Mixed heirloom tomatoes - for DH, he's always tried plants before, i figure for $1.50 it's worth trying
and
a 36 peat pellet "mini greenhouse" for starting seeds. The kind with a plastic lid. ($4.36)
Good deal. Now I'll just have to make the 20 mile trek to see what they have here.
Those mini-greenhouse things worked well for me outdoors, Amy, as I guess you'd call it a cold frame. I know you don't have a lot of outdoors, but I was going crazy with winter sowing. Not for the tomatoes or anything very tender though, but you could start the dahlias. I guess the only advantage would be that the plants would be stronger and wouldn't need "hardening off". Wait a while (if you can!). xxx, Carrie
i don't plan on starting anything until mid/late March...
Dahlias want soil temperatures of at least 50 degrees.
So do I!
LOL, Victor! You got it, and then 55, and then 60 and then 65 and then 70 etc...
x, Carrie
but i can start the dahlia seeds inside, right?
Yes, but avoid cold window sills, etc. No drafts.
I need to make a slight correction...lol...I won all 4 of these DL's that I posted pics of, there is a DL that I'm currently bidding on, but that is 4 days out...which, at this rate, I doubt if I'm going to bid anymore...4 days left, and it's up to $50 already :-/
Thom is hooked on the L.A.! Boy that didn't take long. You did get some very pretty ones Thom!! I Love 'Moments Rich in Blessing".
They are all beautiful - 'Circle Upon Circle' looks like a litmus test They way the color bleeds into the next. Enjoy
Oh a bunch of beauties there Thom. I think you need to rest up, after all you are going to have to open lots and lots of packages soon. You picked some good one alright. :)
Such pretty choices, Thom. Enjoy your addiction - not that I have to say that, I guess.
Loved all the daylilies, but especially Circle Upon Circle--where is this auction? Is it on Dave'sGarden, or someplace like E-Bay? And do the plants come from growers, or someone's garden? And--do they cost a lot? If something is up to &50, I would assume so.
I wouldn't mind 'Circle Upon Circle' either!
And I just bought three Rhododendron from Girard Nurseries. : o
Here ya go Robin...it's a dangerous place!
http://daylily.com/cgi-bin/auction.cgi?cultivarsaiunten
Robin, navigating the site is pretty straight forward. There is a section for new varieties, newer ones, and price ranges...also, like on eBay, you can BUYNOW before the auction/bid happens.
On average...if memory is serving correctly (also I had a few "bid wars" going on)...Westbourne Wild as a Buck, was roughly $70, with s/h...'Circle Upon Circle' was roughly $60 with s/h, the other 2 that I won were being sold by the same person, so, with combined shipping, that was a little less than $50 for both of them...
Some of them are sold by hybridizers who do have their own page, 'Westbourne Wild as a Buck'...the hybridizer for that one has her own website...I believe this particular DL from her website sells for $100...not sure of fan size though.
When bidding on any of the DL's, in the description of the DL, the lister should state whether or not it is a single fan (SF) or a double fan (DF)...If they aren't the original hybridizer, they should also list the person who introduced it.
When you get into the newer intros, especially the Stamile ones, even the Stamile DL's from last year, and from '06, starting bids are sometimes in the low to mid $40's, and I have seen some selling, with 1 day left, for $120
The "newer DL's" are where I purchased the 2 purple beauties I have posted above.
It's fun, I always like winning...lol.
Be forewarned though, it is definitely addicting, and very alluring...lol.
Good luck...also, for the Lily Auction site, I had to register my name and stuff, and wait for the person running that part of the site to get back to me, click here, jump through this hoop, etc...before I could bid...have patience with this part of the Lily Auction, from signing up to being able to bid took about 3 days...
GOOD LUCK!!!!
