This year and next they'll be growing roots so you will/should have flowers 2010, more each year and a nice clump by 2015.
what have you bought so far? part 2
Ready for sharing by the 2020 RU!!!
You guys are mean!
Just playing!
The prices NE Bonsai puts on the web are for a few special trees. They have 4 or 5 greenhouses full of goodies!!! They have 1 gh just for tropicals... sigh...
I like the look of Bonsai but I don't think I would have the patience to do it. Some are very old and passed down in peoples wills, a great honor I understand to receive one that way. Sounds like a place you could drop a lot of $$$$.
Same with me.
Here's what I bought today: a new hot water heater. Next I need another car. Fun fun fun, so I can GET to the 2008 RU! xx, Carrie
You are way too funny. Sorry Michaela. I'm in the same boat as you. I planted some seed this year and was looking forward to seeing some blooms too.
I've been lurking but JAX you're forcing me to come out! LOVE NE Bonsai!!! Used to attend their spring celebration in May every year. Yes, some of their prices are high for their older Bonsai, but the greenhouses are filled with goodies and lots of great deals in their "pre-Bonsai" section. A few years ago when I was making my annual trek to Maine, I couldn't resist and left the highway for a quick visit. There's no such thing as a "quick visit" at NEB :)
I like the look of Bonsai but I don't think I would have the patience to do it.
ngam, it's actually a very relaxing hobby. The pruning and shaping in the early years is similar to giving someone a haircut, although you have a much more patient "subject".
I bid, again...lol...if I win...BIG IF....
um...I'm going to take the liberty, if y'all don't mind, and start number 3, in this thread...lol.
I hope I do this right.
You're just helping the economy, Anita. More power to you.

So, if I understand you correctly, I should treat the daylilies like ornamental grasses for a few years - then as daylilies.
Wouldn't it be cool if I ended up with some real beauties???? If I do, I promise I will share them at the 2020 RU :-)
What year did you start the seeds? Give them all the sun you can when you plant them outside and maybe they'll surprise you in their second year. Some just might bloom.
Out of all the high end seeds I was gifted with in 2005 only one has bloomed.
Isn't it odd how gifted has become a perfectly acceptable transitive verb? Just strikes me as curious - my mom read about gifted children and I read about what my children are gifted with at their birthdays. . . . When we were taught English, it was as if it were finished changing, but it clearly is still alive and plastic! x, Carrie
Well, the seeds are an experiment . . . someday maybe I will be able to indulge in daylilies, but until I have enough disposable income, I will have to make do. For almost 2 months, they were under lights 16 hours a day. Currently, they are getting 12 hours a day, because I now have to swap flats every 12 hours to let all the seedlings get light.
I can hardly wait until it warms up a bit, so I can set up my mini greenhouses and can move the hardy stuff outside.
Are you still looking for Happy Returns for your project? i rarely have much to offer, but i probably will have a couple clumps of those i'd be glad to share.
I would LOVE Happy Returns! I want those for the east/dawn garden - a nice light yellow to go with the soft pinks and blues of sunrise :-)
Thank you soooooo much!
Whenever it's safe to dig them, i'll grab a clump or two for you!
Thanks, Amy . . . . this is impossibily long - I am going to start a new thread . . . I'll be right back with a new link :-)
someone beat me to it!
Here is the link to part 3 :-)
