My aim is always wiping out the next generation.
Scattelogical ramblings and desultory humor - SB - cont'd
The biggest slugs I ever saw were eating ivy groundcover when I went to visit friends near Berkley California. In the evening they (the friends) went out with salt shakers and salted the slugs as they came up onto the concrete sidewalk. I don't know how effective that was long term, but slugs do not like salt.
I've used salt with great success but when I'm working in the garden and have scissors nearby, but no salt, it's the scissors that solve the problem.
I used to remove the saucers of drunken/drowned slugs for my neighbor and it wasn't a thrill.
Smells bad, too.
Patti - i will not be discussing food on this thread until the slug/grub topic comes to a close...
But thanks for asking!
: )
Cute graphic, cool! ☺
Thanks, WC.
Amy - we could revert to talking about the stones still in ER.
Pirl, I am with Amy, do you think you could drag your mind up outta the dirt for awhile? Super glue does wonders for recuperating stones and gravel.
Oh, did I tell you the neighborhood kids are bicycling in their shorts and tank tops today.
Hey! Dirt is where its at!
Oh dear, the south has risen again. Right outta the dirt.
Hey! Alabama is souther than I am, so I can say that.
On Sunday I saw the first macho man of the year in shorts. I'll save them for July when I'm spreading the Sluggo.
Ugly is right!
That IS gross. I agree that we've overdone this topic!
Could use some more detail around the head area... ☺
Maybe it was pixellated because he was making a lewd gesture.
There's a link somewhere about their reproduction habits that is hysterical.
Similar to lawyers?
I guess you need a good sense of humor when you look like that...☺
I sent the information via email and dmail lest I spoil the evening for anyone.
I had to protect his identity Victor...the guy has a duplex and a lawyer!
I hear ya!
Pirl - revisiting topic for a necessary warning.
Please consider this a personal PSA:
1. Be aware that slug eruptions are quite predictable when using short-handled tools while slicing as they are under pressure: important to remember to turn the head so as to avoid any projected slug residual.
2. Olive oil removes slime.
3. I speak from personal experience.
4. Long-handled shovel - divot - place - slice - cover - done.
Banana slugs - yes we do have these. Too many and No fun.
In order to identify any projecting residual, can you specify as to color and texture specific only to said slug? If slug is of the banana species, would it's residual be, perhaps a creamy yellow? Please clarify.
They are the same colour inside, no matter the exterior: green, from plant matter.
Residue is identifiable by colour, texture & produces a slight "blap" sound when it lands.
Taste?
It's hard to find a word for that, as my reaction could have been measured in nano-seconds. Vegetable? And it is not a humorous event when it hits one's eye, either.
The bigger the slug the more residual matter. I learned that a while back and it remains with me. Grubs have much greener residual matter than slugs.
Y'all are sick.
But you love us!!!
Isn't there something about birds of a feather flocking.......
Y'all still ain't right.
I'm for a change of subject. Are you still enjoying spring weather, Sharon?
it's a Phish song...
"birds of a feather are flocking outside....."
Better than flocking inside.
72 Victor.....I ordered bare root roses tonight......
Wow! Nice. That must feel heavenly. What kind of roses?
Ordered David Austin's Jude the Obscure, and Don Juan....both climbers.
Going to order Compassion as well, but haven't done so yet.
I am not a rose grower normally, but think I am going to try.
I like the colors on Jude and Compassion.
