Scattelogical ramblings and desultory humor - SB - cont'd
The ability to know who's calling happens to me, too. It's a blessing not to answer the phone when we're eating.
I wish I had that ability - I always get the telemarketing calls. That's why I usually let DH answer the phone.
Though there are many ways to handle the calls such as just putting the phone down and not even speaking, which ties up their line, or saying, "Hold on a second" and then just not pick up the phone again, the easiest is simply hanging up - especially if it's a recording.
DH likes to turn it around and say - I have 4 tires for sale, would you like to buy them, and try to keep the person on for awhile!
Deb, what did you do about the pink envelope??
I was really bad - I went to the return address and met the "other woman". That way - he couldn't come up with a lie for me! Of course - he just got mad that I illegally looked at his mail!
Deb,
I probably would of done the same thing!
I 'knew' Pirl was about to ask for a new thread! Hee hee. Deb - did you sign up for the Do Not Call list? Of course it doesn't cover charities or places you have already done business with.
Yes, we did - and it is the calls you listed.
I tell them not to call anymore and they usually comply.
I once took a test for extra sensory abilities in a psychology class.
The examiner had a series of cards and he would send me a "telepathic message" and I would write on my corresponding card the answer that I got and also respond verbally. The verbal response was tape recorded.
One of the messages that I remember was a very vivid group of colors -- red, orange, yellow.
My response was that it was a stand of flowers in a market.
The correct answer was that it was a stand of fruit in a market.
Took a nap after work today so now I can't sleep. Looking at recent posts - saw one asking about how to skip to just one posters comments to skip over a lot of posts that get off topic, etc, etc.
Come to our forum - we never get off topic!!
That's what started this thread to begin with!
what thread?
The first scat one.
I wonder what the topic is ???
Ive heard complaints in other Forums also, where the poster used up the whole space with just one or two words.
I guess the alternative would be to fill up the entire space with important information- about the topic, of course.
Is space really wasted with short posts?? By space, I mean server space.
Well I dont know about server space. I was just talking about the white space provided in the message box.
I think some people have less time than us, and want to quickly find out info about gardening!
They can easily do that by going to the thread and using the 'Find in this page' function under Edit in their browser. They can just type the particular word or phrase they are looking for. It's a great tool.
there were lots of instructions on how to do just that
Also, Ctrl + F will give you the Find on this Page Window.
Cool! Didn't know that. I was never a big user of the control key - I am so used to the mouse. Guess I'm not a Ctrl freak!
heeheehee.
Funny, Victor.
How refreshing! Most guys are know are -- I mean Control Freaks.
They don't know about Ctrl either. Just learned myself from Critter in the writers forum.
In my experience, I have not seen a gender difference when it comes to that.
Interesting observation.
At the place where I met my wife (I described it on the Valentine thread), my supervisor was a woman who was an absolute control freak. One of the worst I have ever seen.
i am a stage manager. there are a lot of SMs who are control freaks (along with quite a few directors, and an awful lot of dance company leaders.)
i don't think i am one of them. Though i am really into staying on schedule and making checklists.
I never knew a control freak who admitted it!
I like to be in control - now you make me wonder how much so...
the bad thing about a CF is that you really don't know it until you start to feel squashed. At least I never learned to recognize one on sight -- only after the damage started to show.
On the other hand I don't know that a CF would get very far if the subject didn't comply.
On daytime TV, one of Dr. Phil's favorite lines is, 'You teach people how to treat you.'
If you are wearing a sign that says "Tread on Me" you surely will get tread upon.
True, but not everyone is in a position to 'challenge'.
Very true.
I guess I'm not a control freak after all.
Wow! Words of wisdom from Dr. Phil...
debilu: I think true control freaks don't have "empathy" -- the capability to know how another person feels. It is a component of a number of sociopathic conditions described in the DSM*
*The Diagnositic and Statistical Manual of Psychiatric Diseases.
[or some similar title -- I haven't had cause to read it lately.]
Did you see the title for a Mid-South Gardening thread? "Wintertime Woes and Grunts"!
I peeked at it to see what it's about - mostly about being sick in the winter. But someone was complaining that they could'nt wait until the temp is above 60! Well, they should "walk a mile in our mocassins" before they complain!
