Scattelogical ramblings and desultory humor - SB - cont'd

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Fascinating Victor!!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

I hardly ever have much cash....just use my debit card for everything, but when I do have some, it's usually crammed into a little zipper pocket in my purse, all smushed together. I hate coins....they make my purse too heavy, so I pass them off to my DH. I do like to hide money from myself somewhere in my wallet - just in case I need it. Then I forget I have some, and it's a great surprise to find it. So.......I guess I'm in the Harper/Sharon camp!

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Whooohooooo, Louise....I knew it!!! Great minds and all that.
I am heading your way March 3, but going to Lauderdale, so I will wave as I go by.....OK?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Just throw out a crumpled up bill - she'll know it was you.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Well, VG....I'm going to Hartford in May....I might be close enough to drop a freshly ironed one to you....OK??

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

You can come see me in New Haven - 40 minutes down the road...
What brings you to Hartford?

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

I fly into Hartford when I come to visit my favorite cousin in Massachusetts.. Hartford is closer to him than is Boston.

Fun idea, maybe we can meet for coffee or something.

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

that would be cool!

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

How far would that put you from Amherst? I have a favorite coffee shop there. I never drive when I visit him, so I don't know my way around very well, but we could probably come up with an idea. Also Northhampton....well, those little towns are so close together, I can hardly tell one from the other.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I wanna come, too !

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Hey....you are gonna be visiting Sebastapol about that time....I wanna come there, too!
Let's just take a tour, JD...how about it??

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Sounds good to me ! You'd love Zuzu's gradens !

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Yep, I already do. She sends me tons of pictures, and I keep them all and dream and drool.

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

i like Northampton, though it is about 2 hours from here. i go up there for concerts - New Haven is sadly lacking on the live music scene.

Yonkers, NY(Zone 5b)

Harper, are we related?
I leave money in my pockets too - sometimes on purpose.
Like I'll leave a couple of dollars in my winter coat and will rediscover it the following December.
Yeah! Money!

Oh - the Chapstick too!
There's one in every pocket of every jacket/coat. The kitchen, bathrooms, bedroom... all have one.
Right now I'm looking at the one next to the PC.
:o)

Nancy

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

i do that with sunglasses. i buy TONS at the dollar store, and stash them everywhere.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Amy, that is my sunglasses strategy too!

Really surprised that so many people are so particular abouy their money storage. I thought I was anal because I often stack them smaller to larger denominations (not always and never with regard to backward, forward or upside down).

How do you keep your socks?
My weirdest anal thing is that all my hangers hook on the poll in the same direction and all my shirts face the same way. My ADD wife is quite different!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Oh yes - me too.Thou shalt not face each other's buttons! never though of myself as anal, though. I'll leave that to you, Dave. Hee hee.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

I think DSM IV describes anal as "a person whose dollars & buttons all face the same way"

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Yes, for the hangers and the way clothes have to face, Dave. Socks in pairs and stacked but dark colors need light colors in between.

Bills go from smallest to largest and always face forward.

Do you file your vegetables in the freezer alpha style? Are beans filed "green beans" or just beans?

Do not ask about garden plans!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No, I stop well short of that. No organization to sock colors, food in the fridge, etc. You people are WEIRD!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Socks & hangers are my only obsessions. I use your sock stacking technique.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Well, I guess I'm part Dave and Victor too! I can't imagine a closet with hangers all askew!! That would drive me wild!! I'm right-handed and my DH is left-handed, and we hang our hangers the opposite way, so when I hang up some of his shirts, I have to "adjust". LOL

Sharon - It's too bad you will be across the state from me.......I won't even be able to catch that dollar when it fies out of your hiding place! LOL I hope you'll head to the Hartford/Northampton area during the summer.....I'd try to join in on a coffee gathering if the timing is right. My son lives in that general area, so we sometimes go to his house. JD can jump on a plane and join in too!

Guess what I found in one of the nooks and crannies of my pocketbook today??!! A TEN!!! Now, that is hider's heaven!! I drove straight to Lowes for a plant and some birdseed! My DH and I are going to do the Audubon backyard count of different birds coming up soon. We've had a Baltimore Oriole in our Weeping Bottlebrush Tree the last few days....He is so pretty!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Why not hang your socks then??

Greensboro, AL

Socks. I have a bin for single socks in the laundry room, and a drawer for pairs in the bedroom. I call it organized just to find the other one.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, I'm waiting for gps chips for socks so they're not separated any longer!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Mallory wears mis-matched socks since i've known her, it drives me nuts! Last year while Christmas shopping I came across a pair of pink & green(her colors) purposely mis-matched. They sold them as one green with a pink heel and toe area and the other was pink with a green heel and toe area. I bought them and wrapped them up, she had a good laugh X-Mas morning. I had a better laugh a week later when she had them mis-matched. On her feet was a black and orange sock on one foot and a pink and green on the other foot!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Funny! I could never do that one.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

OK...here's a weird one for ya: I hang my t-Shirts on hangers. (I know, I know) and yes they are separated by solid colors or with designs on them. Nothing else has any rhyme or reason to it in my closet or my drawers.

Greensboro, AL

Maybe that's profound J.D. Maybe it says you are a T shirt kind a guy?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Towels have to folded a certain way and stacked solid, striped, solid, striped. Socks HAVE to match, bills go in order from lowest to highest.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Pretty much, Gloria. People are often shocked when they see me wearing a shirt with a collar.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

You all are nuts. My mismatched socks live in a tote bag. Matched socks in a basket. Matching colors? No, but hangers must be turned the same way. One side of walk in closet is dress clothes, the other side is fun and casual, AND JD, I do hang my Tshirts!!!! But not in matching order.

And I love to find money that I hid from my self last year in winter jackets and coats.

My all time motto is: Clutter is the sign of a creative mind.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

JD - you're a surfer priest?

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

AYC...not THAT kind of a collar !

Yonkers, NY(Zone 5b)

Any single socks stay on the top of the dryer until it decides to belch up the mate.

All the hangers face the same way, but not necessarilly the clothes. However I find that the shirts/blouses generally face with the fronts to the left. (I had to go look).
It's probably because I usually hold the hanger in my right hand & when putting the shirt on it the front is facing me. Therefore when hung, the fronts are facing left.
Not done on purpose, that's just the way it works out.
If I happen to be holding the hanger the opposite way, or in my left hand, the fronts will end up facing to the right.
Nothing is arranged by style, color, etc.

Money is shoved into change purse every which way - often with receits in between.
Every once in a while I straighten them out. Usually just to see how much I have. Then they'll get seperated by denomination - but not always arranged in order.
I just use a change purse so they are always folded - usually in thirds. Folding into fourths is too bulky (unless I'm broke).
It gets heavy if there's too much change so I'll take most of it out & put it in a plastic bank on my desk.
There's now over $60 in it - coins and some singles.
I always check the pockets of anything going into the hamper. Any money found goes into the bank as well.

The only real thing I'm anal about is that the screws on the switchplates are lined up the same. It doesn't matter if the slot is horizontal or vertical, they both just have to be the same.
LOL!
I know.... weird.

Nancy

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I think I do the shirts for the same reason, Nancy. And yes, you reminded me of another - the screws. At work we had panels for all the instruments and I made the technician always have the screws horizontal. Any deviation was grounds for electrocution, which was easy with 13,000 volts all around us.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

And just how do all of you store your Xmas decorations? The lights are always an "issue" as far as how you either roll them, put them back in the box they came in, or use one of those platic gadgets that keeps them from being tangled, etc....or they can just be dumped into a box where they become this huge tangled mess !

Greensboro, AL

Some people here just leave them on the building all year round.

I know somepeople who even leave their lights strung on their fake trees and just take the tree out of the attic every year. I guess the extra cobwebs just add to the decoration!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I roll my lights.
