For some reason I can't get it to hyperlink. Anyway, look at upcoming shows and it should give you the exact dates.....It is always in April, yes, and it is a huge affair.
You and your mom will love it, and I can show you my gazillion family quilts.
Back later.
Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Pt.29 Visit with Friends
Jeannine, OMG all of that damage in the garden...how dreadful..is there not something to put around it to keep him away...keep checking my e-mail for photo of doggie you were sending and didn't get it..were you able to find it? Maybe with being away off and on for 3 days maybe someone at the office deleted??? let me know...didn't know I should have put burlap around my hydrangeas..I'll have to pick up some seed packets for 4' o'clocks..want to do mega gardening this year..so if I do get B&B guests they'll be impressed with the gardens...maybe not this year, but in a few years at least..got to start somewhere....glad DS is feeling better and back to school...Jeannine, do you remember my posting the cross stitch queen size quilt top mom did for me??? now would a place that does quilting by machine, do they follow their pattern or do they go around the design you have...
Hi Ruby, what you up to today...busy?
Gita, Cardinal Climbing vine is a must..lol..these are all annuals right???
Tree_Climber send me some vine seeds which are heritage seeds a couple of years ago, must say it's the only vines that have done well..I do same with them, put them in wet paper towels and within let's say a few weeks they are ready to plant...
I am so excited about the thought of getting out into my garden..never so relaxed as when I'm there...I have about 4 beautiful places to sit, front/back deck/hidden garden/gazebo and shortly another and I may have sat for about 2 hrs. all of last spring/summer and fall..but lordy it's beautiful to look at...got the itch for sure...
going to lunch be back to talk to you all...
Just back..can you imagine in this big city, they checked the computer system and said the only HomeDepot that had these snow rakes for roofs is in Richmond Hill..far drive from here...so called dear brother, he'll loan me something..save my $$ for better things...
Didn't have a lot of time but they have opened their garden center, few things, the smell is to die for..probably lots of orchids...they had some clearance items, wish I had more time..perhaps I'll drop in before going home tonight...lol...I did end up with a planter - holds 5 clay pots (included) and a stand...it's a 'herb' garden..not sure if seeds are included or if I have to purchase plants..but for $5.00 rather than $19.99 it came home with me..it's cute..could be used for other flowers as well...lots of new gardening books...spring is around the corner all...
Hi Everyone - Well,I am awake after a nice morning nap. For about two weeks now, I have been allowing myself to nap whenever I feel like it vs. keep on pushing through.
Jeannine, I am so sorry that Murphy destroyed so much of your garden. That is a real bummmer!!! I have been lucky that my dogs haven't done more damage to my stuff.
Hubby is going to prepare dinner again tonight. He fixed ham, cheese and onion omelets last evening and is going to do the same today. I don't allow him in the kitchen too often because he tends to leave a real mess.
I don't have much to report, very quiet and slow here, which if fine by me. You all have a good evening and I will check back later on.
Ruby
Oh Betty..good buy on the plant stand with pots.
Jeannine..it must be heartbreaking to see your plants destroyed..hope Murphy gets out of his puppy stage real soon!
Hi Ruby..that is one of the pleasures of being retired..if you are tired..you can just lie down and have a nap. When I talk to my friends that still work, I tell them that is one of the pleasures. Lucky you to have your hubby fix dinner for you.
Gita..your double daturas are beautiful..I have only had the single ones.
I found what I wanted to send to my Secret Pal this afternoon when I went out...I am quite pleased with myself..LOL.
Have a great evening everyone..
Cheers,
Carol
here y'all are...lol...I don't know why I don't watch a new thread when they first come out
finally had some sun today...still cold...I guess it is January
Jeanine that sucks. I talked to another old timer DG lady her name Ma VIE and she said she went in the hospital and when she got out all her garden was dead. Where she lives she had to grow mostly container plants and they all died. She will not do it anymore, she is an expert gardener but she is elderly and it broke her heart.
Betty I would love to see a stained glass of angels. My family has a thing for angels. We all seem to have had an unexplainable encounter that we believe was an angel encounter so it is something we hold dear to our hearts. I'd love to see it if you do one.
Guys I have to put my baby down Sat. at noon. I dug a grave already and am loving him up. I will make a memorial garden to him. My last dog I did that for made a weeping Mulberry go nuts. He will live in that. I am a basket case and part numb. Keep us in your prayers or good thoughts.
Laura CONGRATULATIONS GRANNY GOOSE, YOU HAVE A GRAND DAUGHTER! We will both be grandma's this year but a few months apart, my dd will be due in Sept or Oct.
congrats Laura!!!!! taking awhile to catch up
Hi everyone. Another busy day here. I think I'm ready for a vacation! LOL
Sorry about your dog Dawn. They are like family to alot of us
Just got in.. drove to Barrie and weather was excellent..good going..stopped in Barrie at Canadian Tire and managed to get the extended snow rake, then looked at all the bargoons which were many..they did have a nice set of scissors..they were 80% off so for a set of 3 it was $4.98..should go back and pick up a couple of sets to put in Christmas stockings...only 11 months away you guys...then I made the mistake of going to Michaels..well, they had the most adorable box gift sets..included a memo pad, two shopping lists, a photo album that holds 36 photo's, 20 note cards and matching envelopes, an agency and a pen in a reusable storage box..very pretty..re. $29.99 for 9.00 so bought 5 but think I might drop in on my way home tomorrow and purchase another 5..they'd make lovely gifts..they also had a tombstone wreath..very pretty..regular $79.99 for $15.00 and it was done in Christmas fashion..I always put a wreath for father's day on Rogers' grave..notand I also purchased the wool to finish Kyle's dickie..was pleased as punch with my shopping day..left Barrie and about 5 miles down the road I hit that snowbelt...blizzard conditions..because I was driving on my own I took the least travelled roads so I wouldn't worry about traffic behind me wanting to pass..dislike being the lead driver..decided to take a break mid-point picked up soup, sandwhich and coffee and a muffin, so here I am having supper while gabbing...
As I have to drive in the morning, I'm going to go to bed, relax and worry about tomorrow come tomorrow morning..how's that for a change..
Best of today..just as I started to type a friend of mine and Roger called..he's a trucker and always phones a few times a year..so spent 1/2 hr. gabbing to him...
Worse of the day...thought a lot about Michelle and the service today..difficult times for all her family and Shawn's family..looked over at Bernice's and no lights on so they must have stayed at a hotel..
What did I learn...that one shouldn't let me alone in stores that have mega sales...not only did I shop today, but think I'll repeat it tomorrow...lol
So night all..
Hi...
Oh gosh, Dawn very sorry about your Baby...A very touch decision to make and follow through.
I will be holding your hand.
Gilli, forgot to say Congratulations to your DH...How proud you must be! Now I loved seeing you grandfather ahd hearing a bit of his journal, What a wonderful legacy to have....a little frightning in the time change.
Gita, my gosh, you have aspendid array of flowers...Just love the double Dantura, so pretty.
Welcome to you Bhaugh! glad you decided to post.
I am so sorry but I need to keep this really short...
I have had to say goodbye to many, many co-workers today. I still have a job for the time being but I have to say watching the people I have walked the halls, and sided by side working really has done me in today. We expected it, still so very sad when you still have job and your friend(s) don't.
Then, I am having a very serious issue at home that I am just a wreck over...but we will work this out.
To top my day, MIL fell and cracked her head open. DH still at hospital...she will be ok but that doesn't ease my worry. . I tried to call my sister..and well she is not available, so I am going to have a good cry and wait for some news.
Thanks for listening.
Dawn, that is such a hard decision to make..sometimes we keep our furry friends alive only for our own benefit..time to let go .. know it will be like loosing one of your own..heartbreaking..will be saying a prayer for you..who knows, maybe death will come naturally before Sat. ..Dawn, I haven't been in the hospital but all my indoor plants have died..so picked up a couple of artificial ones tonight that look real..lol..I can't possibly kill those...
Trop..would you have weather in the 50's...how's the greenhouse coming...
Cat/Ruby/Shar/Carol...will gab with you all tomorrow..
Oh must add my 'treasures' of today!
Sorry about your day Judy. And the work situation. The job I have has had the "outsourcing" threat hanging over it's head for over 2 years now. If it happens, it will be all of us. I have just been trying to quietly plan to get out of as much debt as possible, just in case, and not worry about it.
Hope your MIL isn't hurt too bad.
Hi All,
Dawn, I am so sorry about your baby. I was there a year ago and I know it is a hard decision to make. I was always afraid I wouldn't know if the time was right but our girl told us and for that I am so thankful. It helped my heart heal knowing she was out of pain and running across that rainbow bridge to wait for us. I will send the poem to you. Let it help ease your pain. You are in my prayers...
Sharon, I had no more logged off of DG and I was already on the AQS site getting all the info. It's an 11 hr drive from here or $400 flight to Nashville. I told my DM about it and she knew all about it. We decided to maybe try and go next year because she and DD are taking a trip in March. If we do get there, you bet I will hook up with you and see all your quilts!! Thank you for all the info!
Betty, I sent a picture of a cat instead with the explanation that I totally forgot (great DD, huh?), my DM had to have her beloved Calico put to sleep 2 weeks ago. I just sent you a d-mail to verify the addy I had. I'll resend it - from my home email. On the quilt, machine quilters usually have software they have purchased the license to that has tons of patterns - some more detailed then others. They usually charge based on the detail because of the amt of thread used. I would think any of the quilt shops near you would have the cards/names of people that quilt. That's how I found mine.
OK, so here are the quilting projects I am working on and ready to be quilted.
This first pic is of the stars I am making now for the "His" quilt I'm making. I only have THREE more to make!!! The next picture will show what the quilt will look like. The only difference is since mine is the "his" quilt, it is smaller. It will be 62" x 80".
Beautiful GG.
Betty..Thank you for calling! I can't even express enough your thoughtfulness...
Cat..thank you.
Update: MIL overnight for observation. Thank God, her cat scan came clean.
She had 4 staples placed in her head and will go home tomorrow.
Children are all good with the news..and I am relieved she is being watch over.
Quite the scare...but all seems to be ok.
So I am going to say goodnight.
GG,
WOW!!!!! Double WOW/WOW!!!!!! Those quilts are all so beautiful! Thank you for sharing them.
I especially love the two from the watercolor kits. They must have taken you forever to do.....They are so colorful and realistic! I have never done quilting. I have a short attention span and quilting would try my patience. I like doing little things that I can just put down and start another one.
Betty, I have had to make a conscious effort NOT to shop like I used to. It is hard--as sometimes I stand there for 10 minutes and have to talk myself out of buying something. Lots of thoughts like, "You don't need it!" I do that at food stores too. Always want to buy something that is on sale. It is such a waste of money! Then these things just accumulate and sit around the house.
Be honest now!!!! All those things you buy for gifts--do you actually end up giving them to someone or are they collecting somewhere? I ask this, because it is one of my greatest, irrational flaws! Then, when i need a gift for someone--nothing seems just right. Aaagh!!
Dawn, I could scroll back up and look, but did you post a picture of this beloved dog of yours? Please do! How is he doing? I have never owned a dog. Just a bunch of cats.
OK! Thass all, Folks! Gita
I will post a picture when I load them, but I am in picture mode and need to recharge the batteries so I can take a movie of him too. How many diapers can a dog go through in a day when you spoil him with taquitos and dog treats by the tens????? Bad idea?
Thanks all of you. Thanks. Garden that is such a great idea, the quilt is the bomb too. Another talent to make me feel talentless.
Betty I know what you mean about Michaels.
Man I am hoping for snow, it has been many years since it snowed in Rosamond and not since I moved here. We have 4 degrees to go and the rain is slowing. Darn!
GG, we'll talk when it gets closer to next April of course, but I would love to take you to the quilt show. It is quite the event! Tons of vendors, not to mention the quilt show and contest. I am 20 miles from Paducah and every room is taken from Paducah all the way to the lakes which is at most 10 miles on the other side of me me. But of course, you and your Mom could stay with me.
I can also pick you up in Nashville, though we can make those arrangements as you go along. And yes, your quilts are wonderful.
Seed, I am so sorry that you have had such a rough day. will be thinking of you and yours.
Ahhhh, Dawn. It has been about 3 years since I had to say good bye to my 17 year old kitty. And she let me know it was time. I am sorry you have to go through this, but am glad that you had this time with him. You are doing this for him, not so much for you.
Fun having a secret pal, isn't it Carol? And it will be real fun when you show us what you get from yours and everybody starts guessing who belongs to who. Should perk us all up.
Betty, you did the same thing I did...went to Michaels and stocked up on stuff for ME....nothing for anybody else, just ME. Then I stopped at Lowe's and bought paint for the interior of my house. Geesh, as if I don't have anything else to do . I got a good rebate on the paint, though, so it can wait for awhile if it has to. gotta get the big one finished first.
Gita, isn't face painting fun. The last time I did it was at a Halloween event....it was fun. You have more cute things that I did. Most of the kids here wanted their entire faces painted so that they looked like Batman, or Spiderman, or a cat or a bunny....took me forever to do one little squirmy face.
Liz, Hi....painting not done yet, too sick this week to pick up a brush!! and too yucky to care.
Grandma Laura....good for you1
hi Tropi..Ruby, Bhaugh.....
Rach, where are you?
Gilli....
Isn't it funny, I visualize a map of the US and Canada, then I tack Australia on somewhere, then I bounce back and forth trying to make sure I don't forget to mention someone. No doubt I will anyway, but I surely don't mean to.
You all have a good night...Seed, you and Dawn especially take care.
S
hey everybody! can't sleep..or type well so bear with
Best: I actually vacuumed the house today. Y'all can laugh, you probably do that a lot. Planned the daughter's 7th birthday party (wow) at the skating rink. It's always funny when we go because I remember skating being much easier as a kid
Worst: For some dumb reason I keep thinking I can root cuttings this time of year. A few worked but today I had to throw out a bunch that didn't make it
What I learned: well, clearly I need to wait for warmer weather with the cuttings even in the GH...read a bunch about winter sowing, which we're trying for the first time this year. we have about 12 containers out, kinda exciting
rambling off...take care
Hi to everyone - No too much going on here either, though the day has hardly started. I do know that it is cold here this morning. I am undecided whether to go out to Walmart today or not. I have been making a list for two weeks and keep adding things.
Betty, Sharran, Gita and any others who also have shopping bugs, join the club. I thought that Joanne's and Michael's were "my" problems. I don't feel so badly now that I know others who sound as though they shop very much like myself. I have several stashes around that have new items that I buy on a whim. Most of them I end up giving away, but some just sit around and take up space.
That is one thing that is on my list for today. I need to straighten a little corner in my spare bedroom where I put the bootie from my last Dollar Tree trip. Some of it is for my older son and his family, so at least those things will be out of here soon. I need to find a home for the rest of it today.
Anyway, I am enjoying reading about everyone's days. Dawn, I wished you well on another thread, but want to take the opportunity to do so again. As I said, you have a lot of support in these rooms and many who have had to do the same thing and know how tough it is. We are here for you.
So, we are going in to the weekend. I hope that everyone will have a good one.
Ruby
morning all
carol, that white dantura has me confused my granny has one in her back yard that is just huge almost tree like she called it a trumpet plant now im wondering if there from the same family oh boy something else to investigate lol how has the weather been your way.
shar, glad to hear your on the mend have you done alot of quilts? how exciting if you and jeannine could meet at the show, do you still have snow or did it dispear? we have rain, rain hate it miss the sun!
judy, sorry to hear about work im with you know that feeling all to well
hope mil is doing better now how did this happen? you have mail
jeannine those are just beautiful i love the hummingbirds and the one with the lab is terrifc now are you sewing thease peice by peice or fusing them i just might try one
gita, those are beautiful flowers the face painting love the halloween! so all of those you have started indoors or put directly in the ground omg im so excited to start
ok i can confess by the time im ready to give it away half of them i think about and say now that was stupid to buy that many.
cat, what kind of work are you in that you have that hanging over you to? i was in retail but it was a receiving and checking they let 15 of us go because they went to a outside warehouse out of state.
ruby, its nice when they take over the kitchen but i dont like the mess to much either lol
tropicanna send me the sun!!!
laura waving to you
hi gilli, hope your doing good
hi rachel, have you got the rain to lol
dawn, will be sending you lots of hugs so hard to do just know baby will be with the angels
betty, oh there you go again you must have a extra room to store everything and you have found some good bargains, poor bernice that is sad have to watch bacon with flavoring its hard to tell sometimes if its still good or not, well here we go finally slept through the night and im late late so everyone have a wonderful day
still sorta trying to catch up, hard to focus without sleep and prob. going to have to take something to knock me out awhile cause we have visitors this evening.
Seedtosser I just read about your MIL, so sorry, I know that type of thing can be stressful on the family, will be thinking about you
hellnz--aww...we lost one of our cats a couple months ago (had 2), and the other (Alice Cooper, who was the most fearless lil female I've ever seen) has een hiding inside from the neighbor's cat ever since. The other cat started coming over the fence to expand her territory right after the boy was gone. we decided this morning the daughter's getting a kitten for her birthday
liz--SUN! yeah we finally have some but it was in the teens this morning, been below freezing every night for over a week now. Not much I can do in the GH except hope the plants dry fast if I give them a little water
*****I missed the bacon thing...and I can't find it so not sure I understand, but I think I finally have figured out the closest vegetarian flavor combination ---McCormick makes a kind of bac'n bits out of soy, add those and a little mesquite smoke flavor, plenty of salt of vegetable broth...it works. But if you're talking about fake bacon itself--not the real thing, but doesn't bother me
Thank you everyone!
Liz, for the watercolor quilts, you lay the tiny blocks all over this fusing fabric (that is divided into tiny squares too) and you just keep moving the colors around based on the directions saying to put a light, dark, medium, dark, etc. Once you have everything where you want it, you iron it. The squares stay in place while you sew them which is basically sewing each row side to side and then each column top to bottom. Once that's done, you cut out the applique pieces (which is the hardest part cause they can be teeny!). You attach these with double sided fusing. Once that's done, you sew the borders on then quilt it. These are actually the easiest project to do. I can piece the squares and sew them together in one sitting. The border are a little slower because I miter the corners.
Gita, I get bored easily with some of this stuff too, that's why I don't "quilt" my own projects. Just too tedious! I'm getting tired of doing the stars for the one I'm working on now. Only 3 left to make.
Sharon, you are just too sweet! We will definitely look at coming to the show next year.
Well, I've got a busy weekend planned. One of DD little friends is staying with us starting tonight to Sunday night. Her mom is going to NYC and her Dad (they are divorced) is out of town too) so I said I'd watch her. (ulterior motive: DH and I want to get away for a couple days, now I have someone to watch DD!). Then I'm driving my parents down to Va Beach to pick up some furniture from my DM's brother's house (he's the uncle that passed away a few weeks ago). So that will take much of the day. Sunday, I think I will just veg - and do laundry!
Well, back to work. Chat later!!
Jeannine
Liz..
check out this link..
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/2097/
lots of different ones in the Brugmansia/datura family
I wonder if this is the type your Granny has.
There is a whole forum here at DG just for brugmansias..also cllled Angel's Trumpet.
the kind I had is called Devil's trumpet....or Jimson weed..and some people just call them a moon flower as a common name.
This is the datura I had.
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/355/
Morning, it's sunshine in the city..how wonderful..the radio announcer said thanks goodness January 24th is behind us..apparently Jan.24th is the most depressing day of the year...wonder how they came about that?
Soon it will be 'groundhog' day, that always gives us a boost thinking winter is either weeks away or just around the corner...lol
Gita, I never have 'treasures' around for very long..always someone I think deserves a treat...Gave one to Suzanne this morning...I'll also be counting the days till my seeds arrive..tonight I'll plant those herb pots that will at least make me feel as though I' gardening..
Jeannine, love the quilt tops...could you ask what they charge to do a queen size..might have to ship mine down to you..not sure anyone around here does machine quilting..I have quilting on my sewing machine ok for lap top type projects but not quilts...I'd appreciate it...the e-mail address is my home computer so will check it out tonight..
Dawn, your hoping for snow, and, I'm hoping that it stops..lol..come visit, I'll get you shovelling, snowmobiling, out on snowshoes, ice fishing..will be fun but after a few days you will have had your share of the white stuff...might even get a chance to experience a 'blizzard'..lol You go ahead and spoilt your 'loved one' no matter how many diapers you must use...as for the bacon Dawn, I froze some before I went away, not sure if the date had expired..seems I've been ill since I've eaten it a few times..so just wondered if it was bad...
Ruby, it's just that we stop for '1 little thing' and come out with bags full..my downfall is Joanne Fabrics..spent a few days there at Christmas oooo ing and aw ing...and some made it to my car...
Trop..you'll have fun this year learning all about winter sowing...don't be too anxious...spring is still awhile away..sorry to hear about your kitty...won't your daughter love getting a kitten..when is her birthday???
Ice skating..when we lived on the bay, I always had a large rink cleared..do miss it..think my pond is a little small to use as a rink..maybe not...just might try it..you know, I noticed it glowing the other night..just under the snow..here I left the solar ball floating lights in it..AND they are still working..great test of endurance for them..
Got an e-mail from Canadian Tire..always send out e-mail flyer information..sale starts tomorrow...they have a router and 8 bits reg. $199. for $99.00 and they also have a box of 16 bits only (no router) reg. $129.00 for $29.00..need one for me and one for the SF...there are about 10 items I'd love to have..let's hope my car doesn't start tomorrow morning...lol
Carol, was that the flower that I mentioned in the summer that only opened late at night and died early morning??? must visit that site...
What are you up to today..I for one am enjoying looking out the office window at the blue sky and sun...dreaming of my garden..
Hello to all ..
Judy..great to hear you MIL is doing ok now.
Dawn..you must have a heavy heart..but it is great you have some time to say your goodbyes to Mushi.
GG..lovely quilts..you do have a passion..and it is wonderful that you and your Mum share it.
Betty..great buys on the stationary sets..I have done the same thing..and sometimes I am like Gita..doesn't seem like the right gift when the time comes..and I end up trying to use it myself..not always though...I have a Present shelf..I guess like Ruby has her Dollar Tree stash..LOL I am trying to stop that though..but sometimes it is just so much fun getting a bargain you can't help yourself.
I'm rambling here..better get my day started..look at the time..
Waving.........
This is from 2005 garden..
Betty..the one that does that is the Moonflower Vine..
I had one of those a few years ago too..and took pics of it as it went threw its opening and dying.
This was 2003 I think.
Yes I am dreaming of the garden too..especially when I go back and look at all the photos..and I am dreaming of what I want to plant this year...and I am wondering which of the roses will still be alive. I left them on their own..no cover..only the strongest will survive this year. I am through babying them.
I also did not cover my Nikko Blue hydrangea this year. I have never covered the other 3 kinds I have..Annabelle, Pee Gee and Limelight. But I did cover it last year, and it bloomed beautifully..so it will be interesting to see how it does this year. Gardening is so many times, an experiment..but it takes along time to see what the results will be.
So here is the timing of a moonflower vine bloom..all in one evening and in the morning when the bugs got it.
