Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Pt.29 Visit with Friends

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thought I'd start a new thread....

(Cathy), MO

Good morning everyone. Betty I'm glad you're home safe. Awful to be out on roads like that!
It's so sad. Such a waste of young life. From the article, it sounds like he was still messed up with the drugs. I've known several people who tried them for kicks and got in over their heads. Christmas Eve in a town 20 miles from here, a guy was high, came up and shot his girlfriend in the back of the head for no reason anyone could see. All kinds of other people in the house. Then he turned the gun on himself. It killed her but he is still in a coma in the hsp. And they were both in their 20's!
Young people have so much more to tempt them today than some of us had when we were growing up.

Victoria Harbour, ON

They sure do..problem is no matter what one tries to do to help, seems they are not willing to accept the help and must do it on their own...

I'm playing with stained glass..only soldering left to do..who knows maybe I'll finish it and tomorrow night can drop it off at the studio for caming...I could do it but the tools and equipment you need for 2 or 3 pieces just isn't worth it when you can pay her a few $$$ and she cuts and solders the frame..

Should know not to eat bacon, tummy upset..it's time to go back out..snowing is easy however the wind is up which is worse...not a good day!

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Ahh, Betty, how sad. I pray for Michelle and the children. It will be difficult for them to accept this, but the little ones might eventually learn something from it, and learn to remember only the good things about him. so sad.

Betty, I don't want to have to come up there in this weather, so BE CAREFUL. Only work a bit at a time, then come in and warm up both your insides and your outside, hear me??? And give everything a good rest before you go back outside again. And keep posting so we know you are ok. Like I said, it is not a good time for us to have to come up there!

Oh, Carol. I want to be there sitting on the ground right beside the hostas. That photo fills me with such peace and comfort. I might have to save it and start a Secret Garden file, what a wonderful place.

Yes, Gita.....seeds would be fun, also some of you are telling me that you would like seeds in your Secret Pal info list, so that might be something you could think about, Gita. Or we could do a seed swap.

There are about 12 or 15 regulars on this thread, give or take. That is a nice easy group to work with, much easier than dealing with tons of people that you don't know, so if we want to do a seed swap, it would be easy and fun, in addition to the secret pal thing. Or along with the secret pal thing.

I just think the number in this group is a very workable number, plus we all already know each other.

I need to work on this painting and get it DONE! Be sure to get your list of info to me by tonight, so that I can send your Secret Pal names to you before the day is over. There are just a few who have not sent me the info list.
Thanks,
Have a good day.

I have to admit that I will miss part #28! It was. sort of, more personal to me this time, as I posted a lot and also my pictures. These posts move so fast! You know, once you change the post to a new one, most of us (I am assuming here..forgive me!) do not go back much to the previous one to read what was there.
How many people do we have here that are on Dial-Up? If you signed up for high speed (IF it is available), you would wonder how you ever lived without it!

I have now finished bagging up small amts. of all my seeds in those little envelopes that I can send out. MAN! I should open a seed store! I bet no one will ever beat Jill (critterologist) in that department, though. We are all getting together on Feb. 23 at her place in Frederick, MD for tea, gabbing, visiting and swapping seeds. She loves holding these things. Other than here--the Mid Atlantic Forum is where I "live".....

Jill is also authoring 3 articles on DG on seeds and starting seeds and setting up the racks/lights to do so. Please read them if you are into this, She is VERY knowledgeable!
If you got the DG Newsletter just now (regular e-mail), it has all the latest articles there--just read them as you have time. If you DO NOT get it--all you have to do is sign up to get it. It is invaluable--AND SOOO educational and interesting! Many of the "biggies" on DG write these articles on there-- regularly.

OK! Now I have to find just where to go to post all the seeds I have--and then I have to BRACE MYSELF!!!! The seed-exchange people are all very "hungry". It does really take a lot of time to keep track of what you sent everyone, their addresses, when you sent it, have they sent you $$ back for postage etc. I do not know WHY I get myself into this every year???? MUST share!!!!! Right, Shar??????

Oh, Shar! Will you please post the painting you are working on right now for all of us to see???? Pretty please!!!!!

OK! Off to make my list.....somewhere....????/

Gita

Oh Gita, chuckling about your seed exchange.
You know i just started to harvest some of my seeds.this past fall. I have them in several dixie cups. Always think I will remeber which seed are to which plant but, now I have forgotten and will just toss (hense my name seedtosser, LOL) them in the gardens on the side of the house. Then i watch them grow and remember..I am a learner of sight mostly.

Funny you should ask about reading back threads...I do sometimes. Mostly, i like to remenice through the photos.

Betty, You still shoveling...come in and take a hot chocolate break.

Well it's Grandmas birthday today, so getting ready for her little party. DD # 2 going to make a cake now.
Hope everyone is staying warm.

Hello..

I put together the new garden clock..the thing I couldn't forget that I saw on sale at the hardware store on Sat.
I went back and bought it yesterday.

It stands about 5ft to the top of the post and has a little LED solar light at the top that is supposed to come on for five hours at dusk.

Kind of funky looking....an unusual conversation piece.

hey there trop, i hear ya! an amazing man that gave so much.. brilliant, gentle, loving, intuative, spiritual, self possesed of amazing truths. one could go on. he did so much with his time here that we are forever changed becuase of him. quite a legacy and a life missed but not wasted. i feel your pain baby.

tired this morning. slept terribly.. it happens as you all know.

work was hectic yesterday, served the highest amount of people breaking our previous record of 1008 and hitting 1021! its a busy place.

Sure, Gita...this is the background.....not ready to show what's happening now, but will when/as I progress.

You know, earlier you asked me about posting seeds, etc....and I didn't answer, I was thinking at the time that Critter is the best to talk to about all that. As you already know, she is full of knowledge. Then I forgot to post that answer, but you probably found out for yourself. I don't do seed trading much on DG, I have so little room for more. I do have some left over from last year when i did trade, then Bob died and i never got around to planting them.

OK, back to work. Yes, I do go back to the threads from time to time. The last one was great.

I AM STILL WAITING ON INFO FROM SOME OF YOU FOR OUR SPS. DON'T FORGET. TONIGHT IS WHEN I DRAW YOUR NAMES OUT OF THE HAT (WELL, CUP, IN THIS INSTANCE)

ok..here's the background, but it is only the painted sketch that I always do before I start, not the real thing. However, the real thing is nearly identical, just tremendously bigger. And divided into 3 sections, hence the triptych.

OK! I just posted all my seeds! I had 17 entries.

I have more seeds of stuff, but not enough to post as "available". Some I harvested last year that i am not even sure if the seeds would germinate. I thought I would try and see.
Please go look in my "haves" and if you want any, I will be happy to send you all you want.

At least--you must grow the 2 Daturas!!!! And the Grandpa Otts MG! I am sure (if you paid attention) that I posted pictures of these two somewhere in the past posts. However, if you are interested in any of the seeds in particular, i will be more than happy to post the pictures again! MY ultimate pleasure!!!! Gotta see what it looks like, right?

Gita

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Carol, that is a great clock, I don't think I have ever seen one for the garden, but I love it.
think I will look for one next time I am out.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Shar,

OK........looks interesting.......I'll wait and see the "real thing".

Re my seeds!!!! EVERYONE! IF you want any--I am not interested in anything in return--just postage! I do not have the place, lights or equipment to grow seeds. Besides--I have plenty that I want to try and grow already!

Shar--We cross posted. I mentioned Critter in my Post.

Gita

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Glad you like the Garden clock Sharon..seems strange to have a clock in the garden but time has a way of getting away on you when you start playing out there.

Gita..thanks for the offer..but I don't grow many plants from seed.
Yes..#28 was a real good thread..lots of thoughts and feelings came out..

I sure hope Betty has come inside and stopped shovelling!

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Do so want to post to each and everyone of you, but I am so very/very tired..might even go have a hot bath and then a nap...these old bones don't work like they used to...lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Carol, Wanted to come back and tell you how much I love your Clock...Think I would have gone back for it too.
Reminds me of being antique..I think it will very pretty in your secret garden.

Betty glad you are done shoveling.
Gee, I thought the frame you have the stain glass is great too, Gosh I am excited to see it all finished.

Angels come in small packages..last year Kyle got a snowblower for Christmas .. one that is just the right size..anyway, his dad just got home and Kyle said he'd been waiting all day to go to Grandma's to do her yard..so, he's out there taking down the snow banks, clearing the front and the back..such a sweetheart....will give him a few $$ for his pocket although he won't want to take it and Greg will have a fit..but that's ok..cause I'm GRANDMA!!

A drunk man in an Oldsmobile

They said had run the light

That caused the six-car pileup

On 109 that night.

When broken bodies lay about

And blood was everywhere,

The sirens screamed out eulogies,

For death was in the air.

A mother, trapped inside her car,

Was heard above the noise;

Her plaintive plea near split the air:

Oh, God, please spare my boys!

She fought to loose her pinned hands;

She struggled to get free,

But mangled metal held her fast

In grim captivity.

Her frightened eyes then focused

On where the back seat once had been,

But all she saw was broken glass and

Two children's seats crushed in.

Her twins were nowhere to be seen;

She did not hear them cry,

And then she prayed they'd been thrown

free,

Oh, God, don't let them die!

Then firemen came and cut her loose,

But when they searched the back,

They found therein no little boys,

But the seat belts were intact.

They thought the woman had gone mad

And was traveling alone,

But when they turned to question her,

They discovered she was gone.

Policemen saw her running wild

And screaming above the noise

In beseeching supplication,

Please help me find my boys!

They're four years old and wear blue

shirts;

Their jeans are blue to match.

One

cop spoke up, They're in my car,

And they don't have a scratch.

They said their daddy put them there

And gave them each a cone,

Then told them both to wait for Mom

To come and take them home.

I've searched the area high and low,

But I can't find their dad.

He must have fled the scene,

I guess, and that is very bad.

The mother hugged the twins and said,

While wiping at a tear,

He could not flee the scene, you see,

For he's been dead a year.

The cop just looked confused and asked,

Now, how can that be true?

The boys said, Mommy, Daddy came

And left a kiss for you.

He told us not to worry

And that you would be all right,

And then he put us in this car with

The pretty, flashing light.

We wanted him to stay with us,

Because we miss him so,

But Mommy, he just hugged us tight

And said he had

to go.

He said someday we'd understand

And told us not to fuss,

And he said to tell you, Mommy,

He's watching over us.

The mother knew without a doubt

That what they spoke was true,

For she recalled their dad's last words,

I will watch over you.

The firemen's notes could not explain

The twisted, mangled car,

And how the three of them escaped

Without a single scar.

But on the cop's report was scribed,

In print so very fine,

An angel walked the beat tonight on

Highway 109.

I guess you got the snow day B?

Julia is very talented. She is beautiful as well, thanks to you ha?

Seed man I would have taken your seeds, labeled or not and tried to sow them straight in my lasagna.

Gita I will take seeds if any are able to grow in my zone 8b. or maight grow in a microclimate? Let me know.

Gillian congrats to the Big Man too from me, you should feel proud of him.

Dawn, wow that brought shivers down my spine...I am a true believer that angels walk this earth! Thank you so much for sharing the poem..will pass it along..

(Cathy), MO

Got chills reading that Dawn.

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

I've seen that poem before but it still brought a tear when I read it again..thanks Dawn.

Betty you are indeed lucky to have your 'little angel' there to help you. Imagine a young boy having his own snowblower..LOL

I got a nice phone call from my 93 year old aunt..I only see her about once a year..she phoned and aksed if there was some reason why she would be thinking of me today...you know ..like an anniversary of someone's birthday..(nope)....anyway..she told me a couple of stories of my Dad when he was a teenager. She lives alone in an apt..has help come in..but still has a bright mind and wonderful sense of humour.

Be back..Gosh... I am stuck at this computer today....can't seem to get interested in anything else..LOL..this is much too addicting.

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Ok..here we go with the art..I edited the colour and contrast so you can see them better.

shar, are you tapping your fingers? is that what im hearing lol

have a good evening

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

I did get all my seeds listed on my "haves". I guess you click on my name and then go down to my list. I have never done this part of DG, so I am not sure.

If you want any, please D-mail me with details and your address (or tell me if you are in the Exchange).

I finally got the hang of scanning the pictures into MY Documents. My daughter dropped by after work and got me going. I have now scanned and "refreshed" many of the paintings from my little "Brag Book". It is amazing how much the photos had "dulled", but they all are almost 30 years old. Colors just don't hold and I do not have the paintings themselves to copy from. They look so much better tweaked a bit in brightness and contrast. Will blow you all away with pictures of some of them tomorrow.

Night! Gita

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Ladies,
Judy.....love the artwork, but I also especially like the photo of Julia, did she take that of herself? I didn't quite understand...and then did she play with colors in a draw program?

I have been really sick this afternoon and evening...one of those viral bugs that has you on your knees in the bathroom.....

I have all the names drawn, am waiting on 2 little pieces of info, then I will send them to you. It might be midnight because of our time differences, but in any case you should have the names by tomorrow.

I am going back to bed...this has been a nightmare of an afternoon, and not better yet.
S

Pacifica, CA

shar take care of yourself

(Cathy), MO

Hope you feel better. Take care of yourself. The names can wait if they need to.
Back to work for me tomorrow. These 4 day weekends are rough! Makes a person not want to go back.
Hve a good night everyone
