Game Predictions

Amherst, NH

Sue and Dave, sorry for the confusion on website. Turns out there's a Euro football site by the same name. Just do a search
of Mercury Morris and you'll satisfy your Miamiarrhia in no time.
By the way, I am not really a doctor, but I play one in the garden.
Am expecting great success in Winter Sowing. Does Michael
Dirr know about this?
The Pats let the Giants think they were within reach of a win on
week 17, just to play with their heads. Belichek is a master
psychologist when it comes to game planning. He has set the
Giants up for a major fall in SB42.
Go Patriots!!!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I'd love it if the Pats won, but I keep thinking of two things ... their very first SB appearance (who remembers that fiasco?) ... and the difficulty that trying to be humble brings.

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

I remember that, Candyce. I've heard some compare the Giants to what the Pats were that first SB year.

I don't think the Pats have difficulty being humble. I don't think they flaunt it, either. Belichick is a realist, and knows that the team is vulnerable always, and the players are not perfect, even if their record is this year. They appear to have a healthy respect for the other teams, even if it's a last-place team.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Get this...the Giants arrived at airport yesterday and police shut down the freeway to all traffic just so they could get from airport to their hotel in the 4-5 big white buses (the hotel by the way is part of Indian Casino complex, I hope they behave this week!)

Things are going nutty here...you'd think it was the 2nd coming, not the 2nd superbowl we've hosted......

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm sure the city will enjoy all the extra revenue!

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

I'm sure! I can't remember what the figure was when the last one was here, but it was a staggering number!!!

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

--now, back to our regularly scheduled superbowl commercials---

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Does look interesting, though anything about Yoko Ono would scare me off in a hurry.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

lol Victor, me too, never had much use for her.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Victor, Great line!! (clapper)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks Dave.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

So what are everyones predictions for the SB?

Pats 33 Giants (17 )

I am just staying home with DH for a quiet evening. There is a great local story here aside from that Belichick lives here in the summer and is a quiet normal guy, who does things for the local events. There are three sisters who have been going to all the home games since 1995 are going ti AZ compliments of the owner. One was the ladies, Jeanne Dooley, who back in the mid 70's as the only women on the board at the Bank where she was the head teller insisted that they break their old policy of giving unsecured loans to women only when co-signed by a father or husband. She has been my hero ever since. She said that she was putting her foot down for me at the weekly meeting , as she said she had seen me working harder than any of them for years to get my business going and that it was "Time". It is the Pats time too.

Very nice article and in honor of their dad I'll be rooting for the Giants and their win!
Giants 34, that "other" team 21

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

I'm guessing a closer score, with the Pats winning, of course. Besides the fact that they're my home team, I hope they win just to complete their undefeated season. If the Giants were the undefeated team, they would most certainly deserve the win. I love my team, but I'm also fair!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Good one Pirl, too funny. Patti for the Pats

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

bb, good morning, thank you for telling us this very interesting story, Ms. Dooley would be my hero too and of course, so is her brother, Mr. Belichick.

About Nantucket, one of my most favorite place. I remember the time when a Nantucket basket sold for $15.00 made by only one man, wish I could remember his name.

Maria

Maine, United States(Zone 5b)

Sue, that's how I feel. It's like when I watch the Olympics, I love to see records broken. Even if the Patriots weren't "my" team, and assuming the Giants weren't my team either, I think I'd want to see the Pats win just to accomplish something historic and exciting. It kind of surprises me how many people in the rest of the country (judging by some of the articles I've been reading) want to see them fail, JUST to see them fail. Like my sister in OH, lol.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Patti - ala your hero, Jeanne Dooley, back in the 60's and 70's a woman's salary couldn't be considered when applying for a mortgage "because she could get pregnant". Being in the business we had to request "child care letters", generally from the mother or mother-in-law in order for the wife's income to even be considered or a letter from her doctor that she was incapable of getting pregnant again.

Thank God times have changed!

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

I know - you'd think if a team has won every game in the season (no matter the sport), they should automatically be declared champs. I have some disagreement with playoffs - if you end the season in first place, you should be the winner.

But - I love watching the playoffs!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I agree that the Patriots are the champs!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Pirl, The bank loan officer said the money I made waitressing full time, while working at my store full time too, couldn't be counted as it wasn't a salaried job. I went to the Pres of the bank, who everyone lovingly called "Hank the Bank" that if it didn't count, would he care that I drop his next dinner on his head when serving him? He laughed and said he would listen to Jeanne. When he gave me the money for that spring loan to better stock the bookstore, he asked if it meant I would be leaving my waitress job, and I said only if he doubled up on the amount. I was able to stop waitressing in another year. From then on, he always asked how much and nothing more, all done with a handshake, yep a women's to boot. But now that Bank is part of a big blob bank and so I use the other which is more locally controlled.

What is strange as this was not always the case here, women pretty much ran everything historically.Men where at sea. I think this was something that had crept back into the banking business after WWII when more men started running the town shops. But since the 70's the women now run a huge number of the local retail businesses again.

Maria, The basket maker you are referring to is Jose Reyes. There is a really nice basket museum here now too. The new ones are so over the top. It has gotten to the point where there is so much ivory that you can't see the basket. Patti

Sue, I know....but the playoffs are often the most exciting games to watch of the whole year! But yeah, if a lesser team in any sport ends up winning the last game over the team with the better record (especially if it's a dramatically better record!) it does sort of beg the question whether or not they are really the champions, huh? Oh well- that's sports for ya!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Giants 24-21.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Women's rights and football. Interesting combination!

I will need about 9 more hours to finalize my prediction.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Suffra - Jets??

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

New York Amazons?
(Victor- that was a perfect line!)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks for setting it up!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

We both know about the Suffer-Jets

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Don't remind me.

That Pats are going to win...................... 27 to 17

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Still rooting for the Pats to win and shut those Dolphins up. Of course they could loose all their games next year and quiet those cocky '76 Bucs ;)

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Ya know, I don't think that would bother them as much as most people would think.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Funny Al! I remember that year for the Bucs. I saw them lose to the Jets at Shea.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

About the only team the Packers could beat at that time too.

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

victor - did you know that jose reyes made baskets? hard to picture him sitting still that long!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

I went to one of my granddaughters' birthday party today and there were three generations of Pats fans there. Even the two year olds know how to say "Go Patriots"! The rest of the country roots for the underdog, but where were they when we were the underdogs for years and years. So New England enjoy what we have now, it will not last forever, Pats win 35-24. Also I would like to congratulate the Giants for the great games they had down the stretch. Enjoy the game every one! :)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Are you serious, Amy?! I did not know that. He is so fidgety I can't imagine him staying still for anything. I think Ricky Henderson has been a terrible influence on him. His season (and attitude) went downhill when RH joined the coaching staff.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

New England - 31
NY Giants - 27

Not what I want to see, I'd much rather the Giants win......
