Anita, Sweet Autumn?
What do you miss during the winter? Part 2
Good one, Amy!
Lovely clematis, Anita.
Nice shots, Anita! Love that PM face!
We have an announcement of the first crocus blooms of the season each year in the newspaper. My earliest ones never win, last year the first one was on April 5. But my snowdrops are really trying to open enough to be officially in my mind "blooming". Another sunny day today. Hopeful, always. Patti
Sigh ....
Aren't they just gorgeous?
I'll bet we could start a 'progression of Spring', if everyone posted photos of their crocus when they bloomed. We'd be watching Spring march northward!
I planted about 200 in my front lawn last year... can't wait for spring
Allison ~
That's going to look mahvelous!!!!
I never saw anything like that Patti
I think it was a fluke early blooming last year, but it is a strange little gem that is always our first real bloom besides our dear snow drops. Patti
I miss those little Irises - haven't had them for years. New house construction plowed them under. Had them right outside my kitchen door - very cheerful!
Patti, how many years have you had yours?
I have had them since 2005 in this garden, but have had some in Vt. much longer which I sometimes see if I am up there at the right time. I didn't know what they were until I joined DG because I always threw away the labels. I would be sad if they didn't appear this year. I planted other histrioides this year, 'George' & 'Frank Elder', which I am excited about. Patti
So Kathryn needed some male companionship, huh?
I've never seen anything like that one, Patti.
It IS ghostly and strange-looking, but VERY beautiful.
Yes, I think that whoever is growing crocus this year should post when they get the first open blooms. It will be fun to watch!! So, the game is on, my fellow DGers. Be the first to post a crocus sighting!!!
I know it won't be me, as I live too far north, and our elevation is rather ... well, as they say on TV ... 'more snow in the higher elevations'!
But it will be fun to see just who has the first crocus blossoming. Will it be Thom, do you think?
Songsofjoy, I can see why you miss it, it's lovely and very peaceful looking!
that's so beautiful, Songs ...
So restful. It must be the perfect place to relax after a long day.
Very peaceful Songs.
No doubt winter can provide you with the quietest times of the year(because no one else wants to go outside.LOL)
Lovely setting, Songs.
Songs, that is just perfect! I assume you made that, even though it looks natural. A stream, or water feature, would be the perfect addition to my yard!
Thanks all. Yes, it is man-made (or should I say woman-made). I shut it down for the winter though as I don't want to risk frozen pipes.
Sue - you should do it if you think you'd like a water feature!! I love all types of gardens, but my water garden surpasses them all (in terms of enjoyment). There's nothing like the sound of a babbling brook or gushing waterfall in your yard to relax by after a long day.
My 10-yr.-old is enough of a babbling brook for me, thanks!
Songs - love the stream and your surrounding garden!! I love sitting here and just looking at it! Eleanor
Oh I could so park my rear there for a long time, Songs!
Very very nice.
Very nice Songs and I agree. It's my favorite part of my garden.
Victor - I'd love to see what a "manly" watergarden looks like ;o) Do post a picture please!!!
Very, Very nice! I don't see any cacti or thorns though! What is the plant on the lower left corner? Looks like it could be a JM, but not sure...love the JM overhanging the stream. I have two by my stream too, but they are not as established as yours yet.
Yes, that is a JM - 'Washi no o', to be exact. Thorns are elsewhere!
Victor, are there any plants that you DON'T have???
Plenty - wish I had acres.
Beautiful victor!! But where do you keep your pitch fork, you devil! LOL I didn't write that - the devil made me do it.
Thanks. I need to trim that viburnum to the left of the red JM. And I will remove the miscanthus to the right.
SongsOfJoy and Victor those shots of your water are just beautiful - how nice and relaxing that must be....Good job folks!
Songs and Victor - those are both beautiful ponds!! I so want to have one at our NH farm. We have the perfect spot.....but there are so many deferred projects we are still catching up on. Both of you did a great job of selecting terrific plants to put around the ponds. There's nothing like the sound of fountains, babbling brooks and waterfalls.
