What do you miss during the winter? Part 2

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Wow.....wonder whats up? Maybe the winds is effecting everything!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

See my post on the scat thread too - dmails have been weird as well!

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Al - my best wishes to your FIL
I worked on my gardening blues by taking cuttings of my coleus, begonia and fuschia today from the cuttings I rooted in the fall.
I got the Oakes catalogue yesterday and read it over coffee this am.......boy oh boy....

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Same here Al - sorry I missed that earlier in the thread.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I have a Hyacinth I forced in bloom next to me now, and it smells oh so good. And the first forced tulip has opened. Makes today's 6 degrees feel better.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I forced the paperwhites this year. I won't do that again. They stunk and flopped over real fast. I do have a primrose that greats me every time I go into the living room.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I only did Paperwhites once....they were to strong to be in the house.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Same experience (long ago) with those paperwhites. They were just mentioned on the Fragrant Flowers thread in the NE forum. I think everyone is tempted the first time and only those who can take the "scent" do it again.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I knew I would not like it so I never tried them inside.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I did them last year too, and they did stink.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Missed this thread somehow. I also am sorry to hear of your FIL Al. Best wishes from here. On this maybe coldest day of the winter I just miss growing things poking out of the ground. Here is one for Pixie, 'Sunset Pride'. It was supposed to be a spider but I grabbed a fan from the wrong side of the bed at local DL farm Tranquil Lake.

Things do seem to be taking a long time to load today. Here is a pic from DL farm. Can't wait to walk around there again with warm sun beating down on all the colors and temptations all around.

251 views and lots of photos.

Gorgeous picture ngam, would love to walk through those DL's right now! It looks so warm!!

I do have some blue in the house to watch during the winter....this is 'Blue Fish'.

Louise, I tried growing kitchen herbs, but they kept getting spider mite. I especially tried to keep the rosemary healthy because it smelled soooo good. No such luck.

Sue, nope, don't order take-out all winter. Why?

Victor, I put 'blue billow' on my wish list. It's gorgeous! Love the blue fish Celeste!

The Blue fish is a male Betta. The males fight each other to death. The females are less colorful and smaller. They do breath some air. They blow bubbles and make a nest, then spawn and put their eggs into the nest, that floats.

:-)

To let you know. I have had a aquarium all my life. As of now I have a 144 gallon DAS tank, all wood and glass from Holland. I have mostly tetras which are egg bearing fish. Then some algea eaters and catfish. Here is MR. P. a Placoustamous.

Cool! Wow - that's a big tank.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I had one of those once!! Tetra's too, but kitty got into the tank one night. Funny, he leaves my Betta alone.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

We have two of those Sherrie. One weighs about a pound and the other sleeps upside down on top of the water, but it is not dead!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Maybe originally from the southern hemisphere??

Belly up don't mean dead?

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

No, you poke it and it wakes up. Maybe it has problems, but it's done this for a while now.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That's pretty funny. I'd like to see a video of that.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

My videos aren't great - I'll get a before and after pic tomorrow.

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

on "skip to new", Al's 5:36 post was the 1st.
i had to scroll up to remember what was being discussed...

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Hey, Amy! Get your mind outta da gutter! LOL

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Makes my post right after it pretty funny too.

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Did I miss something? What does "skip to new" mean?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

It brings you to the first post after the one you last saw in the thread.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

That is funny!

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

still waiting for the before and after pics?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

For the projection class?? Always helpful to look bigger.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Not true with mirrors at home though.

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

hahahaha.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

OK - slow day here guess.

Here is was on top sleeping

I woke it up and it swam over by the giant - it's on the side now

That is weird! Freak him out and hold a mirror over him.

Has he got his mouth sucked on a glass lip or something?? If that is the case that is not abnormal as they suck on things and stay straight up , upside down, sideways and kitty whompas. What ever direction they are pointed.
