What do you miss during the winter? Part 2

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Thanks. Lots of what is considered blue is more a shade of lavender but I like it anyhow.

(Zone 4a)

I know I always get confused - I see the captions say blue flower but to me it looks purple LOL Oh well!!!!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

You guys are killing me here!!! Great shots everyone. Oh, it's all so beautiful. Nice compositions Anita.

...sigh... guess I'll go get my coffee now...

Oh my gosh. These pictures are beyond. I want some!

cool victor!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks. I was trying to get that hellebore against an overcast sky. Came out blurry but I loved the kaleidoscope effect.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Cutting into my blurry pics now are ya!

So you were laying on your back for that shot Victor?

I love that bee Al.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No I took that with my old Coolpix 995 which could swivel, so I could look down at the display as the lens was pointed up.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Lots of nice shots that would look great in a calendar!! Winter's not so bad when we get to look at each other's flowers here!

We planted two "Yellow Wing" hibiscus in our new peanut shaped bed in the front yard, along with 3 magenta periwinkles today. Then I moved 8 big orange impatiens plants and replaced them with hot pink impatiens in the front of the house to pick up the hot pink in the red ti plants. The orange had become too dominant, so they got moved to a place that needs some color. HD had a great sale yesterday on their hibiscus......really healthy, good size plants with lots of buds for $3.88 each. Yippee! I bought another Painted Lady and the two Yellow Wings. Photos to come at some point soon.

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Gorgeous, everyone! I love Love In A Mist - I just let them self-sow around the yard. They're so pretty, I don't mind them being anywhere particular!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Pixie I don't think I did buy that one... I will have to go search through my stash and let you know

Wow, that's one nasty looking beetle, WC! Look at those antennae.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

It was 2½" long not including the antennae.

- I think it would have eaten this predator at only ¼" in my cold frame/ shade frame. (wolf spider) ☺

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Wide field, just got up close... like my lens got wet when he sneezed! ☺

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

He must have liked you!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

... It's totally understandable, after all, I grow the flowers he eats! lol! ☺

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

wow WC, those bugs are what i don't miss about warm weather!
someday, i'll tell y'all the story of the giant spider in my house, and how it got me arrested.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Don't miss these guys!

Victor, where do you think the little froggy goes during the winter?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Can't blame you there, I don't miss them either. Reminds me to update the epi-pen before they awaken!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Harper - they stay around and slow their metabolism to nothing. They'll find some shelter - a log, a rock or something. Frogs are amazing. They can actually freeze solid and survive. They have an anti-freeze-like compound in their blood.

Celeste - me too! I have a two-pack.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Eeeew, get out! Really? So if I got a pet frog and couldn't take care of him while I went on vacation, I could just let the freezer babysit?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Not sure about that! I don't think all species have that ability.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Nope you'd need an a Alaskan or Nor'Easter Frog for that.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

A giant spider got you arrested?? - boy I got to hear this one! LOL! ☺

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I agree, WC. Come on, Amy, give us the details.
