Al - please post that photo again on July 29th. Thanks.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Wow Al, nice weather for a game!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Brrrrr!! Please keep that cold up there!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow, poor Giants! 17 here.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Nice to see a decent amount of light left at 5 PM. Only seven weeks to Daylight Savings!!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

I'm watching the Packers game and cannot imagine sitting there in the stands for this game!!! Al, how far are you from Green Bay?? I just came back from taking an elderly neighbor some homemade soup I made for supper, and the full moon is stunning, but the wind is whipping - even here. We have a fire roaring in the fireplace, and it's hard to imagine temps as cold as 17 below! Egads!!!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

About 40 miles south Louise. We ended up bottoming out at -19. Did get up to 0 today, -4 now. I don't do well keeping warm sitting still myself.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Whoa, Nelly, Al!! That's too cold for beasts or humans!!! You need to come down here and move some snow around in Atlanta!! That would be a little bit more user friendly - and you could zip on down and take some awesome bird shots here!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Louise - a fire in S. Fl?!!!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Oh, yes, Victor! Most of the houses here have fireplaces, believe it or not. It's quite crispy here today with a very cold wind........we have a fire often when it is "nippy". It's like fall in the north....no better time for a fire! Others have their heat on here, but we don't go that far! LOL The only time we've turned the heat on was the 28 degree night. We lost power twice during the night last night, and it was a rocky night sleepwise. I think we were both worried that the power outage would cause our security system (we're still learning about it) to go off and wake up the neighborhood. My DH is usually up even earlier than I am, but he actually slept until 9:45 once he actually fell asleep, so we missed church this morning. LOL

The system probably has a battery back=up to rely on when electricity goes out.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

11, with a high of 22. Cold predicted again later in the week.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

10° right now with a high of 20°. Sunny for today with snow shower during the week. This was the first year that I ever had a farmer's almanac. It was a gift for Christmas. I'm amazed that so far they seem to be on track? How is that?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

1° right now, even the dogs hesitate to go out.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

1 above here - first time in days, of course it is warming up to snow today.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Anita - I bought the FA in 1964 and read of a big snow storm on January 16th, 1965 - my due date with my son. He was born two days early and the blizzard arrived exactly on the 16th - no visitors for any of us new moms in the hospital that day.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

That is amazing.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I made it home in time to watch "The Fugitive", the big hit on TV at the time.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Yesterday we went from about 4" of snow, when I went to bed, to over 2 feet when I got up, a period of about 6 hrs. I couldn't even get out my door, until my husband, who had gone out to the garage earlier, came and shovelled me out.

Oh no!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

That's a shocker.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

You okay, pol?

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

We are experiencing a heat wave here by comparison, 21, bright and sunny. Our GH will get hot today, which will really warm up the house today. Which means money not spent on fuel and more for new plants. Patti

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks.

We weren't as bad as some of the places up north, but Hannibal, and Fulton, about 6 miles west of us made the national weather service.

The heavy snow knocked down the furnace pipe from the roof of the garage. Someone is coming today to fix it, but it's a two story garage with a high peak, so I'm not going to watch that.

I took off work today to do some cleanup around the cars.

I hate winter.

But my irises are snuggled toasty in their beds.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Oh, I'm fine, Boojum, thanks, just really POd. We'd had such good weather, I thought maybe we wouldn't get the accumulation this year, and that I would be able to get out in my garden by the end of March, instead of having it under 4 foot of snow.

Your irises would hate trying to exist in Florida so there is the reward of a beautiful spring.

The cat is a pussy cat. Dog #1 is pussier and dog #2 is the pussiest. Big bark no bite as I have to push them out the door.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

EEK, Polly! That is a shocker!! Hope the roof climb goes ok!

Pirl - yes, our system does have a battery backup, but we weren't sure how long that can go when the power is out for a lot of hours. In our case, it was only 7 hours; all in all, I think we are just annoying ourselves as we try to learn the system! LOL

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Fulton NY just made the 10 AM news with their 37" of snow in 24 hours with another foot of snow coming their way.

It does take time to adjust to the system, Louise. The oops events are always exciting.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Well, if the guy falls off the roof, he'll have a soft landing.

Pirl, we actually got more than Fulton, all together. I think we beat them by 3", last I heard. I'm pretty sure they counted us at 40" total. But the sun is shining now, so hopefully not too much more. The roof of Fulton's DPW just collapsed.

I can't imagine all that snow at once.

So who bails out the DPW since they must be the primary bailer outer?

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Pirl, in Vt we got lucky when we bought our house as the head of the local DPW lived up our road and had to plow himself past us to get out to get to the main DPW sheds and so he always took one of the big plows home. So we were always plowed first and last. He retired. But half of the local crew still lives up our road. So all is still good up there. Patti

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I think probably the state is the bailer outer for the county bailer outer for the city bailer outer. Hopefully one will be available to clean up the city, but they are sure hard at work on the county.

Here goes our taxes, bailer outer trickling downhill.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - sorry to hear that Polly. Good luck! That is a lot in a short time!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Wow Polly! Thats alot of snow...making up for lost time?

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

It was 21 degrees out when I woke up at 10am yesterday - by noon it was down to 18 and kept on sinking until it hit 6 degrees early this morning! It was quite brrrr when I got up to this morning, but now it's a tropical 19 degrees out there! And all I want to do is plant tomato seeds! LOL!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

20 and windy here right now.

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

At least the sun is shining brightly! Makes a world of difference to my state of mind!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I agree!
