Thanks, George,
I'll get it up in the first post tomorrow morning.
Garden Party - Orange - Sat, Feb 23rd, 2008
Okay..it's going to be Black Bean Gazpacho Salad.
Sherry
Better bring that recipe to share! Sounds wonderful!
Need to rename this an International Garden Party
Look at the originations of the food:
Middle Eastern (Lamb Kefta in Pita Pockets)
Mediterranean (Roasted Vegetable Stromboli)
American Bistro (Monte Cristo Sandwich)
Portuguese (Collard Green Soup)
American Comfort Food (Potato Salad, Deviled Eggs,Apple Crisp)
Thai (Thai Noodle Salad)
French (appetizers are of French origin - raw vegie tray)
Spanish (Black Bean Gazpacho Salad)
European (Cheesecake)
German (Apple Cake) but prepared by a gentleman of Czech ancestry
Mexican (Salsa, Cerviche)
International (Wine & Champagne)
Panama (Panamanian style tamales)
Philipines (panzit noodles)
I will be sure to have some zip locks available for doggy bags for everyone.

And I am hoping CBernard will bring the pancit noodles (Filipino) that they brought to Don & Pam's last summer. I was lucky enough to take some home; they are delish!
Since this is turning out to have an International flare, I think we should wear costumes and make it a "theme " event ! You would have to dress reflective to the country of the food you bring.
Wouldn't everyone like to see Louise (with her blonde hair ) in a Serape and a sombrero? Or Arlene in a camel driver's outfit?
We could have field day with this !!!
Portuguese Mike! The collard green soup is Portuguese! My MIL told me how to make it years ago. I will not be wearing a serape or a sombrero. I will put on a black dress with a scarf over my head!
Did she teach you to make those little round donuts, too, Louise? And the pinto beans? Yum...
If I mention costumes to DH, he will run screaming from the room! lol
Mike, since your veggie tray is of French origin, I would love to see you wear a Beret and a very thin mustache. Also you will need a long thin cigarette holder.
OH yea, that would be a sight to see!!! lol
Yes I have made those little round donuts and the donuts. I also make the sweet bread, yummy.
I'd like to see Mike in a kilt!
no you wouldn't !
LOL! How about leather!?!?!??
nope !
Ok, jeans and a t-shirt?
That I can do.
People in Iowa think I am "in costume" when I wear my REGULAR clothes.
LOL Arlene!
And let's hope there is soil smudges on the jeans & tshirt from JD digging your brug for you!
Good one, Arlene. We have decided to be "that odd couple that live at the bottom of the hill." I'm often outside in layers of long-sleeved clothes, face mask, hat, safety glasses, surrounded by odd tools and bags.
That would be a sight! LOL
It sure is!
Mike the brug digger. How big is that brug? Do I need to bring a truck?
This conversation reminds me of when my dad would tell us, "I'm taking your mother to the beauty shop". She always did her own hair, so this was quite a shock, and we'd say, "The BEAUTY SHOP ?????????!!!!"
He'd say, "Yes...but just for an ESTIMATE" !!!!!
Yes... you definitley need a truck...it's taller than I am. We can cut it back, but the root ball will be pretty heavy...those things have huge roots.
I hope you realize how huge those things can get...
I do and it will be fine here.
I am Czech from both of my parents. My costume will consist of jeans and a shirt, long sleeves if it is the least bit cool.
I'm part Polish and won't be wearing a babushka!
wanna bet ? I'm bringing you one.
I'm not that Polish or that old yet!!!!
uh...yeah you ARE !!! hee hee
So I guess I was wrong to say it was a German apple cake.
What will we do with you, Mike? A flogging seems appropriate!
Sorry Arlene, for hijacking.
What are you guys smokin'?
The cake is from a German Recipe, I am Czech!
Well if I could dress George, it would be a big cuddly teddy bear-something everyone should have in their life.
I also have some seedlings of perennial linaria / Canon Went (pink flowered form), and plants of geranium incanum if anyone is interested.
Sherry
Sherry, I have to give you a big THANK YOU for listing your linaria. I have this plant and could not remember the name of it to save my life!!! I received it in a trade several years ago and I now have some babies coming up and wanted to know what they were before I gave them to someone.
Phewwww, that's a relief. lol
I would take Canon Went and as much Korean Hyssop as you can spare, Sherry!
I will bring my old standard tabouli, to go with the lamb! Made with Meyer lemon juice from my dwarf tree!
~'spin!~
