College Station Spring Roundup-TRADES

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh, Ceejay, you're a doll! Thanks so much. Please let me know if there's anything else I can bring for you.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Got you too, book. Cross your fingers and hope this works. I'll know soon enough. Will get going on that right away.

I'm not going to list it up on my site - don't want to get in the business. LOL! If it works, I'll let everybody know.

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks for the advice on the Coral Nymph....I've taken them into the greenhouse during past winters...(and mine have reseeded a well)..but I thought I'd see if they were hardy as some of the other salvias...whew!!
I wasn't feelin' too good about promising somethin' and not being able to
follow up with them! Much relief now! :)

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Silverfluter, please let me know what I can bring for you. You wanted one of the Flamenco brugs, right?
Is there anything else on my list you want?
Charlene

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Charlene, what is alocasia cuculata?

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

The Alocasia cuculatta is a dwarf ele ear. It gets about 5 ft. high by 4 ft.wide. I don't have a nice photo of it fully grown, but the attached photos of it will help. Here in zone 8a it dies down to the ground and comes up fairly early in the spring. It is very dependable on returning even when neglected. It likes some sun, but will grow in shade. The leaves get up to 12" wide. It is a beautiful green plant with elf hat shaped leaves.

Wow! Five feet is a pretty big dwarf, but it sounds really great. I think I've got a spot for it. Thanks Charlene.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

I added night blooming jasmin cuttings, and confederate jasmin cuttings to my list.

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Silverfluter, I have you down for Alocasia Cuculatta. Your confederate jasmine reminded me of something I have been wanting.

Looking for cuttings from Confederate Rose tree.

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

Patrob - Patricia,...I perused your have list and would like to ask...may I have
1 each of your Torch Aloe & Dune Aloe and a couple of that beautiful Jessie's Song Bearded Iris...if they're availble still Thanks so much!

I'm adding Herbertia lahue (Prairie Nymph) to my have list....a few mature bulbs and numerous seedlings...I also added some King Alfred daff's.

I'll be adding various things as we get closer

Lee

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

Charlene - I have this type available...not a close up pic - it's a dbl ruffle pink
tell me how many....I think I have one or two rooted already...but they're so easy to start...I can cut a bunch of new cuttings, as well,... if you'd like!

pat....I'd love to try your iris Jessie's Song as well if you have more.

willis....I'd love some king alfred daffodils and some prairie nymph.

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Kim, I have you down for 'Jesse's Song' irises.

Lee, I have you down for both aloes and 'Jesse's Song' irises. Would you start a couple of your confederate roses for me too? Thanks!

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Willis, I would love some cuttings from that wonderful tree. It is so amazing when half of the flowers are white and half pink. I think they come on pink and turn white or is it the opposite. I would love to have about three of them if you have plenty. That probably means six cuttings to be sure I get three. I can share any extras that take root at the Oct. RU.

Thank you, so much!!
Charlene

Lee, I marked you down for the Texas Green-Eyes....but only if you know it can be a bit invasive. Doesn't need good soil and seldom needs watering once established. I meant to post this, but was interrupted and forgot.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

Several of the daturas that Xeramtheum, as I remember they are yellow, are up. I planted about 15 of them and about 8 are already up. As are several of the mix burgundy/white scabiosa. I planted red hot poker seeds last night and will plant some Limelight 4 o'clocks this evening.

Anne

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

Linda- Thanks for the heads up/info on the Green Eyes - I'm not too concerned about it being invasive as long as I know - I learned a valuable lesson about invasiveness when I thought I'd let some beautiful (and fragrant) 4 o'clocks go to seed after I'd planted in ground.....needless to say,....I have PLENTY of them as they easily can take over...they produce so many seeds and they seem to have 100% germination rate! (I still like to cross them!) Thanks for the GE's too!

Charlene- will put you down for the CR's...they start out a deep reddish pink and lighten up in color as they "age"....very easy to propagate by cuttings & seed. My pleasure to share them!!

Patricia - glad to start some CR for you too! I do appreciate the "new" additions Thanks a bunch!

Kim - will put you down for the KA daffs and the Prairie Nymphs - each beautiful in their own way...the KA's bloom each year reliably,...and multiply vigorously in good soil...these are (I don't want to say heirloom) an older strain - unlike the kind being offered today commercially (which, according to Ogden,...are another type...passed off as KA's...and don't do well in our clime.) The PN's are a Tx native and prolific. You'll enjoy!

Thanks again, everyone! Lee

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Charlene for the alocasia.:)

Willis, would you have a few of those prairie nymphs still? Would they get tall enough to mix well with Texas betony or cedar sage?

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

Mary Lee - the Prairie Nymph's flower stem grows only about 6-7 inches tall...blooming in the spring (middle of May around here) The bloom opens in the AM and closes up in the PM. They're fairly easy to propagate from seed
( I've at least 75-80 seedlings started from last year's seed that I collected from a large group growing wild on the acreage of a good friend in the Huntsville area) The bulbs are small, easy to transplant.
Probably best to grow in a pot or an open area in a bed...and yes, I have enough for you if you'd like some!! Just LMK!
I've attached a photo of one I dug..a little damage to one petal but a good enough representation.....if you've never seen one

Linda and Josephine...do you have any of these? Lee

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

No I don't have them Lee, and I sure would love to have some if you have enough.
Josephine.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

OK Willis I'll figure out somewhere to put them then, but yes I would like to have some, thanks.

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

Ooh, me too...since you seem to have that many! I've only seen them growing a couple of places. One of my books says they like sand or clay soils. They remind me of the Celestials, Nemastylis geminiflora, same family of plants. Thanks!

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

I am now looking for some plants to add that have the name 'Jean' or grandma in them. I have potted up a bunch of seedlings and will be adding them to the list shortly. Offhand I know I have 8 white tx star hibiscus and I will have a number of morning glories.

Kim

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

Silver, Linda & Jo - I've got y'all down for some Prairie Nymphs

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Willis.:)

Kim do you mean you want plants that have Jean or grandma to add to your list of wants? Sorry if I'm being dense. I have a shrub antique rose named Granny Grimmits that I might be able to get a cutting off of. It's still very small, but I think it's probably just supposed to be a small shrub. It might even be fine in a large pot, so you could take it with you when you move. The flower is a rich dark red with an awsome lemon rose scent.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Yes Mary Lee....that's is what I meant. I would like to find plants that I can add to the garden to remember my grandmother. The rose sounds lovely, and I would love to try it if you think you can cut from it.

In fact I'd like to remember both my grandmothers since they are both now gone to heaven. However, my other grandmother's name was Twila so I am doubting too many plants will be out there with that in the name. Her favorite color was yellow, and so I make sure to have a few yellow flowers in the garden for her.

As for the name, my mom's mother's name was Jean, my dad's mother's middle name was Jean, and my middle name is Jean. So in a way I carry them both with me always.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

If anyone is interested I have a bunch of castor bean seedlings sprouting in my flower bed now. If people want some I will dig them up.

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

This morning a pleasant surprise opened up...I thought I'd show what the Narcissus "King Alfred" looked like...pretty good size too! Lee

Iola, TX(Zone 8b)

I will be adding my list in a few days...
Trishann

Iola, TX(Zone 8b)

Hey Kim,
Can I swap for these plants? I will add my list later.

hibiscus acetosella cuttings-rooted
coleus cuttings-rooted
apple mint
passiflora incarnata
passiflora lady lavender
passiflora incense
coral nymph salvia
salvia madrensis
shrimp plants-rooted

Thanks a million,
Trishann

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Gotcha down Trish!

I will have more seedlings to add after this week. Veggies and flowers. Also will have two very large passiflora incense I would like to replace with something else, simply because somehow I ended up with three of them and would like some variety on the fences. They probably won't be up by the roundup, but I know where they are. I can either dig them for the RU or you can come get them later once they are up. Just let me know.

Kim

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Kim - I asked for one of those earlier. Did you put me down?

Iola, TX(Zone 8b)

Charlene,
I would love to have

Trees:
Cedar Elm
Sweet gum
Water oak

Tropicanna Phaison

Aloe Vera

I think I seen tall pink mexican petunia on your wish list I have these. Not sure what else I will have but will let you know.
Trishann

Trishann

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

ceejay....I didn't realize you wanted one of the big ones, I'll make a note. Do you want me to dig it up for the RU or later on?

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Trishan, got you down for your requests.
Charlene

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Kim - I just wanted one. I don't understand. Do they come in large and small?

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Kim, I'll do my best to get a cutting of Granny Grimmits.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks Mary Lee!

ceejay....there are smaller pots of runners I pulled up in the fall and potted up, and there are a couple large ones that are still in the ground. I am offering both, but the large ones may not poke out of the ground until after the RU.

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

Anyone interested in a Senna bicapsularis (Christmas Senna) I have a few small ones I can dig. Not surprisingly,...the Sulphur butterflies like to visit this one. I have one large one that grows next to the grennhouse and blooms into Dec. another one that you can just stick a cutting into the ground and expect it to take root without any preparation at all!

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Lee, that is just gorgeous! I would love to try it.
