Good Night everyone!

Sharran, thank you so much for sharing the lovely pictures of the liles. Gita, I also enjoyed seeing the pictures that you shared too. I always like to hear the stories behind the pictures that a person takes and what made them decide to snap that particular shot.

Sharran, I never thought that I would hear myself saying this to another woman, but you ought to meet my husband. ha-ha He is Day Lily King. Last year his parents closed up their home place where they had lived for almost 50 years. Both his mom and dad were Master Gardeners and spent many years after retirement visiting plant shows around the nation. Their specialty was Day Lilies. His mom sold them at the local Farmer's Market for a few years. They had a medium size greenhouse and their whole basement was set to start plants.

The kids were told to come and get what they wanted before the property was sold. I can't begin to count the hours and hours that John spent at their place digging plants to bring home. To tell the truth I got a bit tired of hearing about the lilies. Now.......of course even more hours were spent back here at home transplanting all of his booty. Actually there are probably still at least a hundred or so that he never got in the ground last year. I hope that they survive the winter.

John found gardening journals that his parents had kept and he counted over 250 different types of Day Lilies that they had planted around their gardens. Having all these plants were not enough for John evidently because he attended a Day Lily Festival that is held nearby last July and split the cost of a $70.00 Lily with our sister in law.

Rest assured that when ours begin to bloom this year, I will try to post some of the pictures that we take. Thank you all for also bringing up the topic of the differences between the Ornamentals, which frankly are my favorite and the Day Lilies. I found the topic very interesting.

Here is hoping that each of you will have a lovely Wednesday.

Morning..just sitting here waiting for another few minutes with coffee in hand and it's time to leave..it's cold/no snow at least for now so not having to shovel this morning was great..

Ruby you'll have to show photo's as well...now watch out, this summer should my new lilies survive I'll take photo's and you can let me know what types they are..read somewhere in a book yesterday I think that there is more than 2,000 different species-know they called it something else but wow how do you keep up..can't believe you all knew the names, now tell me, was it in a journal? are they tagged or do you just have a fantastic memory? I must be failing in that part..lol...

I know I have plants, pretty plants - know some by type but not by name..now that might be a project for summer...

I'm off...

Wonder,

What is your zone? It is not listed under your name here.
Just from reading all these Posts, seems Lilies grow everywhere....

Ruby and others,

The blue poppy was in the Gardens around the Norman Lowell Gallery in outside of Homer. AK. It is in a section called Anchor Point.
He is a very famous painter. You could Google him and see. His Gallery is amazing! It sits in the woods--in the middle of nowhere. He and his wife live there and their original homestead cabin is also there--surrounded by these amazing Gardens that visitors can tour. That is where the Blue Poppies grow....

Lowell's favorite subject seems to be HUGE paintings with the Aurora Borealis on them. Every single painting in there is amazing! He is truly a gifted artist. Many of his paintings are for sale.

There are amazing HB's of mixed flowers all around the Gallery. I think many flowers just love the cool Summers there. If any of you are ever thinking about visiting Alaska, you MUST go to this area around Homer. It is the most beautiful area. Good weather in the Summer as it is right on the sea. I have been there 3 times in June/July and it can get downright hot! My sister lives there--so I have visited. She has a beautiful house on a hillside and is an excellent hostess and tour guide.

Here is a picture of the Gallery.

And--if I won't bore you all, may I post a couple more pictures of the amazing flowers around there?

How does this Petunia basket grab you?

How would you like to have a Garden like this on? It is on the Homer Spit and quite a tourist attraction.
It belongs to an eccentric, secluded woman called "The Eagle Lady". She feeds hundreds of Bald Eagles in the wintertime. All the fisheriess around there save her tons of frozen fish. You can Google her name too and read up on the amazing story of her life.

One more--and then I will quit--I promise......

This is the front fence to her property. Obviously, it is all locked.....

Gita, loved the pics of ALaska. Our family and my DH's family are hoping to take a train/cruise in Alaska next summer. I have a friend who is a travel agent and he went last spring so he'll have lots of info. My DH has been to Alaska - right before we met. He spent 3 weeks on a "camping" tour all around the state and up to the Yukon. I want to try and talk my parents into going to. Again, beautiful pics!
