Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today #26 visit with friends...

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Betty, look at the users folder very carefully and put a finger on each part to get to know which is which. Those blades are fussy to put on, but by going step by step with the manual you should be able to get it back together. Mine is an older model so I can't be of much help.

Glenview, IL

Oh goodness Betty, Do be careful. I hope you get it and running to make the cuts you need.

Well Hello Balvenie.

oh gosh, speaking of cuts...decided to get my mop cut!
Think it might be to short, DH going to have a fit, LOL
Was trying for short and Sassy...got short!

Judy, you tell DH and family that we here on DG LOVE the new haircut..

Well my goodness Balvanie..needed an angel and here you are..earlier I worked on it and got it together..then came off the belt..thank goodness the diamond blade didn't break..as you know, they ARE costly and this one is fairly new..perhaps that's why it didn't break..wasn't brittle...

So was getting tired, thought I'd rest, but oh no, had to get the tools out again, went through the process (had my handy CD called "Everything you wanted to Know but were afrait to ask..it's just sooo funny the way he explains things..so, got it together and have been using it..but, I'll call on Monday and order a new belt..almost think it might have stretched..so, preventive repair right?

You will have to let me know Balvanie how you knew I needed help..someone sent a d-mail..now my little angels who was the 'sweetheart'..I never even thought of d-mailing you and that should have come to me because of just how very talented you are with your stained glass...

Gail at the studio is doing so many wall hanging using odds/ends .. very modern..using nuggets and various other stones added within..one day..

Each time I say I'll use up left overs, I'm off because it doesn't quite seem to be the colors I want and I purchase double what I would use..know you are the same..

So it will be early morning and perhaps I'll get all the cutting done..You will see on the photo I'll attach..little bit of BLOOD on the pattern..lol...

Balvanie..I left sky/grass mounds etc. in their entirety..am thinking perhaps I can cut out the trees and solder them in so they'll be 3D..what do you thing?

Hey everyone..meet Balvanie...

Again, this is much appreciated...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Will show you how far I've gotten this aft...and remember..the bevels that will frame my piece have dychronic in them..they aren't actually the colors that are shown in the photo..they are just piking up colors from their surroundings...

Hey Gita..we'll have to celebrate our birthdays doing something special????

Welcome to a great thread, Balvanie. Stay with us please.

Judy, the haircut is absolutely great! I love it.

OK, I have a request. Remember I told you about Gunner, the little 7 year old with an inoperable brain stem tumor?

Not much has changed with him, I think he has maybe another week of radiation treatments, then it is just a matter of waiting to see when/if the tumor returns or starts growing again,

My request is this:
He loves getting post cards, and has often said he would like to get mail or a post card from every state. I thought it would be fun if you could send him a postcard. It would mean so much to him and to his parents as well.
If you are willing to send one to him, D mail me and I will give you his address. I really don't want to post his address on a website. that might not be a good thing, but I would give it to you in a D mail.
And with Starzz and Betty in Canada, and with Laura in Australia, just think how excited he will be. And no, Laura, I didn't get the shells. Sorry, must have been a customs thing. But I won't give up on them, so don't you either.

thanks so much, I hope you are having a great weekend.
Hugs, Sharon

Victoria Harbour, ON

Shar...would love to have his address...please forward it to me...

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Judy love the haircut!!!

Sharran dmail me his address. Now to go shopping for a postcard from WI. Maybe 2 or 3!

Betty beautiful work. I need to go and check out your other thread.

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Judy..I think your haircut is great....I like the bangs...not what I would call short at all.
Nice pic of you and the family..but I think this new haircut is a nice change for you.

Betty..I just shake my head when I read about all you get up to.....My My..I hope you get your glass cutting saw fixed up ok. You just amaze me.

Sharran..you have D-mail

Cheers,
Carol

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Hi everyone. I'm a football widow this weekend so I figured I check out the thread. DH actually decided to run the cable line thru the kitch, over the sink and out the window so he could put the kitchen TV outside next to the firepit to watch the game. MEN! It made it thru the first game and decided to come in for the Patriots game. He'll be back out tomorrow if it's a pretty day!

Betty, your stained glass project is absolutely beautiful! I would love to make one of those stained glass "windows" with a garden scene. You just don't stop amazing me with your talent!!

Kind of putzed around today. Watched a movie w/ the kids and sewed a rod pocket onto a wall quilt I made so I could hang it up. I was going to try and start on one of the antique star wallhanging kits I have but the directions are in black and white and the picture on the front is of different fabrics so I didn't feel like deciding what to put where. I did finish one of the star squares - see below as well as the hummingbird watercolor wallhanging. I just need to get both quilted (along with 3 other projects).

Has anyone read the book - The Kommandant's Girl by Pam Jenoff? It is AWESOME! I am half way thru and don't want to put it down. It is set in Poland during Hitler's reign. I also read The Reluctant Tuscan by Phil Doran last week - very funny book - especially if you're Italian like me. It's non-fiction.

Well, I'm going over to Pogo to play some games. I'll check back with y'all later.

Almost forgot....Judy - LOVE the hair!!!

Betty, sky/grass look fine and a 3-d effect from soldering the trees on top should add a nice detail.

GG, Very nice quilting.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

GG,

That is an amazingly beautiful quilt!!!!! Did you do all the parts of the picture with pieces of fabric? If you did--I am speechless.....like, the birds? WOW! You should be very proud of that one! I bet you are--as you posted it for the rest of us to see. What will you do with it?

Betty------If you lived closer to me, I would LOVE to go out and get drunk with you on our Birthdays!!! Mine is on the 5th. Bummer--that we all have to live so far from each other.
Like--can one have a cyber party? I sure would love to have a friend to celebrate with, otherwise the day is just a Ho--Hum....Maybe if we call each other and slurp on wine while we are talking, it will be like, almost, having you here. Will this be your BIG 60?

Seed,

You look so CUTE in your haircut! Of course, I have NO idea of what you looked like before you cut your hair, but is sure becomes you. Glad to finally get to see a picture of you.
Remember that song-----"Saturday night and I ain't got nobody--got nobody to ...."
I forget the rest.......That's me.....:o(

Will be able to go to bed soon--then i won't worry about anything....except falling asleep in decent time... Seems as soon as my head hits the pillow. my mind turns on, like the radio, and it just won't stop dialogging....Betty, you said when you think, you think as if you were typing. All my thinking is as if I was having dialogs with someone. Weird! It is like I am talking to a person.

Here is an interesting question I will post.
When you dream, do you ever see YOURSELF in your dreams? I don't think i do. I KNOW I am there, but it is like I am an observer or a moderator....almost like I am filming a movie. Do you remember your dreams? have you ever gotten up in the morning and immediately written your dream down so you won't forget it? I have done that also. Sometimes my dreams are SOOOOO realistic and meaningful I want to remember it in case it "means" something. Let me (us) know!

Gita

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thanks Balvanie..don't want to get too creative..will have to sleep on it! Lord knows what tomorrow will bring..

OMG Jeannine..I love it..doesn't the material match the other watercolor quilt or is it mine..very similar dye lots...problem with my reading is I never want to put the book down either and before you know it an entire weekend has gone by..promise myself, this summer, everything will be as I want it outside and I'll be a lady of leisure, sitting in the gazebo, near the pond, reading and enjoying the day! well part of that might come true..lol..

Well it's cold here tonight..have fireplace in basement going, the one in the living room, furnac eon and I still can't seem to warm up..

With any luck I'll get a good nights' sleep, perhaps sleep in and I'll dream along with the angels...so until tomorrow...sleep tight.. ONLY happy dreams..

Victoria Harbour, ON

HMMM Gita, that's a good question..now I HAVE to go to bed to dream just to check it out...yep it's the big 60..

Maybe Gita you've come up with a good idea..I'll have a cybrespace 60th birthday party..we can all sit at our computers, drink of wine at hand..remember days of old, laugh, cry..just plain old have FUN!!!

Guess Gita that is why I come here from time to time throughout my day...makes you feel like you are not so along...now I've wonderful friends/family but as with all, weekends are busy times so while visiting with each of your from time to time, my day is less lonely...

Do have a good nights rest...

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Betty,

Do you realize that on the address exchange your birthday is lister as 3/11?
Or--were you born twice???? Go check it out....

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Oh, GG....I meant to tell you, some time ago I ordered the catalog where you get your quilt kits, just got it in , and was looking at this very kit. I love them, love all of them, that is my problem. I think I will start on the cat series, but was going to ask you if the sticky backing comes in the kits, or do you have to order it separately?

Yours is amazing, and I do appreciate your mentioning the source earlier, because I can't wait to make one.

Shar- How's the back feeling?

Crozet, VA

Thanks for checking on me Rachel. I am having a quiet and peaceful weekend. I need these from time to time. I don't have much going on. Need to make a trip to Walmart and Lowe's later today. I was in town on Friday and had hoped to shop then, but was at the bank longer than I expected, so just came on home.

I didn't get much done yesterday either. Maybe the upcoming week will be more productive for me. I am wondering if I might need to make a trip to the doctor on Monday and see if she thinks I am having a sinus infection. Many times when I am having an infection going on, I get tired before I get the usual symptoms. My head feels tight and a shooting pain whizzes by every now and then. I also am having a different sounding cough too. As I write this, I am convincing myself that I do need to get it checked out. Yep, need to do it.

I always find it very interesting whenever I am writing here and come up with solutions to whatever issues I have going on at any given time. For me, I keep so busy usually that my sitting down here at the desk and computer and writing to someone helps me to quiet my mind long enough in order to examine what I have going on. So ladies, thanks to each of you for being here. We all need a safe place to go and breathe and let our hair down. ha-ha

I hope that everyone will have a good Sunday.

Ruby

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all...I'm here in my jammies coffee in hand, ready to start my day..slept in till 8am..did wake a few times but talked myself right back into sleep..now I'm downstairs, viewing the mess on every table..now everything was clean yesterday, I'm the only one in the house, so guess it will up to me to clean..leave that until I'm finished tonight..that's one thing about letting all the girls/guy come to paint here on Mondays/Wednesdays it make me have to clean it..

Well I had better change that birthday...Don't know where that came from..mine is March 2nd and yes I will hit the big 60..can't believe how the years are flying by...so Gita, guess we're not just a few days apart..doesn't mean we can't have a cybre celebration though..staying in your jammies will be a must...lol

Rachel, lucky lucky you, to be able to get out with your DG friends...now what did you learn or what did you buy..you know, even on computers you can feel the excitement of spring soon to be and gardening wants/needs an dove..just coming in on every post/thread..lol

Rudy, off you go to the Doctors' tomorrow or at least make an appointment..I've only parts of my kidneys' and first sign of illness is my wanting to sleep all the time, tired/tired..so it's off to the doctors then...sounds as though you know your body as well..why do we fight these appts. when they are for our best.. and I fully agree this is such a good medium for all of us to sound off how things are going each day..here we know we have support...safe heaven for sure..

Shar/Jeannine you'll have to post the name again, I'll have to visit their site or order their catalogue..was just saying on a d-mail to Kiska in Alaska - she's now doing glass sagging and jewelery..NOT to show me any more of her works of art as I'm envious and couldn't take on another craft..we'll maybe I could and look what lovely Christmas gifts they'd be...all kidding aside, I love to look at all your treasures..doesn't have to be a craft..your treasure could be the helping others, the cooking (which is really a craft)..

Liz, will have to go back to Balvanie's site..think he's a gentleman..now wouldn't that be wonderful..we could get a 'he' perspective and could learn at the same time...I do want to try and drill the glasses I have but it's time consuming and with my noticing the difference not sure I want to put the time in until I find the correct glass..now we have a restaurant supplier about 1/2 hr. drive from here..maybe I'll call them and if it sounds as though they would be the correct ones then I'll drive over to get a box...

Dawn what's on your agendy today..?

Breaks over..at least for now..for anyone I haven't posted to, perhaps on my next break we'll have a visit..

Glenview, IL

Good Morning Everyone!

Thank you all for the compliments on my new look.

GG, Ohhing ahhing here. Your quilts are grand!

Ruby, Glad you are getting to relax this weekend. I do look forward to seeing photo's of your grandchild.

Gita, Most of the time I don't remember dreams. a few that I do remember are either nighmares, that I am very much in or they are absolutley hysterical with no ryme or reason, which I am an observer. Once, not very long ago, had very lovely dream where I was definatley there along with many others but couldn't see them only hear them...Betty was in that one-she remined me to pray.

Liz, What are you doing today? I went out to the flattened pumpin yesterday with a stick and poked arournd...um very mooshy! LOL and there are seeds all around the ground, but they are broken in half, lots have been shelled. So will go and poke around some more today and see if I can find any that are still together.

Thank you Shar for sending Gunners address...adding post cards to my list.

Well now...did I read we are having a Cyber party? How cool is that. And two birthdays at one time...even better. Smiles will be here to toast you both.

Well, DH and DS are off to a Wresting tournement. First one so I hope it goes well for Jake...You all should see this kid wrestling the air or giant stuffed animals, it's hysterical!

Me, still got that door to paint so guess I will go do the first coat.

Betty, Hows the cutting going?

Oh Rachie, Do you have a GH too?

Dawn and Liz, I have a basement. LOL it serves as one big giant mess! Sigh

Better get a move on here, Have a good day all.

Pacifica, CA

morning all,

quick post dh is warming up the car uh oh off to inlaws so dont know what could be on the agenda but will post later everyone have a great day

(Cathy), MO

Good morning everyone. It's cool again here. No snow in the forecast until mid week but colder temps. I think everyone is getting tired of winter! Hope you all have a wonderful day

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Re the "cyber party".......Wouldn't it be great if we could all CONFERENCE? It would be such a hoot!!! 10 people yakking at he same time--from every corner of the country--getting all wined up...:o)

Betty--I think I may have an idea how you ended up having your B-Day date listed as 3-11.
Maybe you wrote the "2" as a Roman numeral (3-II) and so it looks like an 11. Do you remember? Are you in a habit of writing dates in Romans?

I got new glasses Friday! My old ones were held together by Superglue and I had it all over the lenses too. They broke almost 2 months ago and the lens fell out. Been making do for over a month--even was wering my old-old ones that have those huge, plastic frames and are 10 years old! YUK!
My new ones are smaller, narrower--the ones with only the frames at the top. Everyone says I look really nice in them. For me--I am just glad everything is in focus again.
Signed up for a higher level of insurance and so they covered everything, but I had to wait until the 1st of the Year. My glasses can run a bit of money as they are tri-focal. blended (no lines) and progressive (self-darkening).

OK! Time to get going. Still sitting here in my nightie....Back to straightening the storage area again. Been listening to my old LP's as I work--they are not even stereo! LOVE them!!! Went through all 4 records of "The Kingston Trio", the sound track from "Never on Sunday", and some old German ones I like. I have SO many!!! Now--that was REAL music!!! ...showing my age here......

Gita

(Cathy), MO

Gita, I'm still watching to get the news of your friend! :-) Be sure you post as soon as you hear from him. I think everyone on here is more excited about this than YOU are! LOL

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Morning all,
Gita..I am listening to an "oldies' radio station I just discovered." Smoke Gets in your eyes" is on now.

GG..wow!... those quilts are wonderful

I've been playing with all my photos..resizing them to free up space on my Hard Drive. Fun to see the garden in bloom in the phtos..yes Betty..I am dreaming of the garden too.

They are calling for some snow flurries later today..it has turned cold again..-1c.

Have a good one
Cheers,
Carol

Victoria Harbour, ON

It's break time..the xowk blade jumped off the rubber belt so know it's the belt..if only it last until I can finish this piece I'll replace the belt..

Spent an hour outside, burning branches/debris and christmas wrap that I had under the deck..making things clean for spring..couldn't get over just how many plants are bright green..hate to see that snow come again, but, I want to be back in season so the remainding 3 will be as they should..even attempted to put a lock on the basement door..did manage..it has to be sided come spring when they do the underneath of the back deck roof with white metal..

My girlfriend Liz from Ireland..we've been friends for 30 years or more called to say she's ok...been terribly ill since early Dec. don't like the sounds of her cough but she promises to rest and go back and insist on further test..my first Christmas alone after Roger died Liz came over and we travelled to Florida..spent Christmas Day and New Years Day at Disney so that it would ease the hurt..she's a party girl..she's in her late 60's but she has personality +++++....love her to death!

Nope, never use Roman Numerals..guess I better try to change it..not sure, but thought a long time ago I had noticed that and updated the date..??? will check it out...

Sounds like you are all busy...must get back to my project..had hoped to have it cut/foiled and soldered but looking grim..we'll see..I'll keep you posted...lol..am sure you want to hear all these minor details of my life but what to xlsx - I enjoy hearing yours...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hmmm very strange..checked it out under my photo..it says March 2nd..went to birthday list and under March 2nd it shows my date...maybe some little Angel helped me get organized..

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Betty,

I saw it when I went to the Address Exchange. Above your address information, it showed your birth date as 3-11. I will check again--right now....

Gita

Still there! Birthday--3-11. G.

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

HI All,

Thanks so much for the comments on my quilts. The hummingbird one is from a kit by Whims Watercolors. I bought my first one at a quilt show last year. This one, I bought off of eBay. Gita, the kit comes with light, medium and dark fabric squares and you have to lay them out based on the directions telling you to put 'light' here, 'dark' there, etc. The flowers, leaves and birds I cut out using a stencils and fabric in the kit. This is the hardest part because the pieces are so teeny and you have to have really sharp small scissors. Sharon, I bought the Quilt Fuse from eBay too. Much cheaper. I purchased the border fabrics separately after I finished the picture.

The star square was a kit I bought at a tiny quilt store we passed in Madison, Va when we went up to the mountains a couple of weeks ago. I'd love to take my Mom there.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Went to church today and may do some stuff outdoors in the yard if it warms up like they say it is going to do. This is the time to get stuff done in the soil prep area if it's not too cold because the clay is wet from the recent rains and not frozen. I need to prune my roses soon.

I paid my neighbor to bait my gopher devil yesterday and do not see a new pile of dirt today so my fingers are crossed. It is headed toward my lasagna bed that I am going to plant in this year. Any of you doing a lasagna bed? Bale garden?
Garden ditto to the great quilts.

Gita no superglue glasses or you will be the group nerd. giggle.

Seed, I have a bitter spirit toward you and your basement, if you have a stand up attic too, I can not talk to you for a while until I pray for forgiveness for my envy.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Dawn, you are too cute...read some on the bale bed and thought it might be a novel idea for tomatoes...lasagna bed??? not so sure..have you tried either?

Well off to tape some of the glass pieces..had company, had to run into the bank so got behind..we'll see what the end of the day brings...know it won't be a finsihed project but hopefully it will be fully cut and tacked...

Don't know, when I view both I see March 2..will have to send update to Dave's Garden for them to fix I guess, or I can leave it as same and enjoy all the belated birthday messages..lol
Talk later

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Sometimes a person has to log out and log back in for them to see changes.
That may be why Gita is seeing the wrong Birthday date..just a guess.

Dawn..where do people store all their "stuff' if you don't have basements?

Cheers,
Carol

Glenview, IL

No need for confession Dawn..I do not have an attic, good thing or that would be another giant mess. you are too cute.

Well today was a productive day! Got the door half painted. Getting ready to paint the other side.
Also, got a little shopping done. Went to library with DD and picked out a few books. I like Romance novels. Now, I am watching Figure Skating. This is probably one sport I can watch for hours and hours. Just something so magical to watch people dance and glide across ice, I am just in Awe of the skaters art...plus hear some incredible music/lyrics....Use to skate on the lake when I was young...hahha always pretended I was an ice princess when no one was looking. Well anyway today i discovered as I am watching a group called Celtic Women, wow like listening to angels, think I will have to buy a CD so lovely their voices are.

Well guys just came home so will see you in a bit!

Other then that..nothing bad, I learned that there are so many choices in everything and, well I am not crazy about the choices...LOL must mean I don't need to buy anything! LOL that could be a good thing.
