It's that time of night..went next door to pick up a few things and it was starting to snow and blow..am sure it won't turn out to be a 'snow day' though..I'm worse than the kids aren't I..telephones are switched, JUST in case...
After all the cutting I've done this weekend my fingers are raw..you push the glass into the saw, some edges are sharp so, few cuts here and there..well, just putting everything away for now and what did I see? hmmm a nice new tool one can use to push the glass to avoid cuts and sore fingers..wouldn't you know..guess it was because I organized myself so well before starting, everything in it's place and there it was hanging on the pegboard in plain site..lol
So, craft room is tidy once again, just don't go look under the rec.room couch..glass is hidden till I have time to work on it..not likely during the week nor Saturday..Saturday I've registered to do a mother wolf and her baby in colored pencils..wasting my money and time..oh well..maybe there will be a blizzard and I won't go...sounded good at the time...
You can tell Judy you are younger than some of us..I knew all those artist..probably have a few records-8 track etc. with some of the same..now Judy don't you dare ask what an 8 track is...lol
Well, I'll not sit her long, I'm mega tired tonight so off I go..tomorrow is another day and one that I can rest/play at my leisure..so will gab with you then..
Even the animals are tired tonight..Sailor is laying next to my chair and Missy is almost tucked into her tummy..now Rylie, she goes for bigger thinks..she's propped up on my bed...hope there is room for me..
Best of Today..nice visit with Ann, Call from Darlene, Diane and LIz and Jeff...
Worse..that I didn't complete the project that I so hoped would get framed this week...
What did I learn..that if when you wake during the night, you turn, snuggle in again you can end up sleeping in...
Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today #26 visit with friends...
I must have complained of feeling bad the last time I posted because several of you wished me to feel better soon. Well, I spent most of the day asleep and woke up wide awake about 9 PM. I did the laundry and dishes that had sat around all day today. Have been on computer for a while now and am still wide awake. I will go to doctor tomorrow and see if it is another UTI or if it is my sinuses causing me to feel so blaze.
You ladies put me to shame with all of your craft involvement. When I was financially able a few years ago to purchase things to begin doing some crafts, I bought too much and then just had extra clutter. I belong to our local freecycle group and a bit before Christmas someone was looking for craft items to make gifts with. That was my chance to get rid of some of the things that I would never get around to doing. It turned out that the person wanting these items worked as a case worker with a local mental health agency and she had a group that wanted to spend some time doing crafts together and give the crafts as gifts at Christmas. I was glad to get rid of the the things and the case worker was delighted to have them.
Is everyone here familiar with freecycle? It is a group with localities having groups where if you want to get rid of something and don't want it going to the dump, you run an ad and if someone has a need for what you are getting rid of they contact you through an email about pick up time and such. Same goes for people looking for items. You just run your ad stating what you want and if others have them available they get in touch with you through email.
I have been able to reduce clutter a bit by being a member and also get some really nice things in return. I felt especially good around Christmas when there were people needing gift items for their children and I was able to go through my stash and come up with some goodies.
Just type in Freecycle in your search engine and it should take you to a national page and then show you how to find one locally. Might be an idea for Liz to find ice cream cups. haha I love freecycle.
Let me just take this opportunity to thank each of you who has welcomed me here. I posted one time and you all jumped right in and included me in your postings. I am very appreciative of that. I enjoy reading about everyone's day.
Have a good week everyone.
Ruby
Hi,
This has been a typical January in KY....gray, drizzly and yucky. BUT a great day to just be lazy. And that is what i did.
Some of you asked about Ethan, and he will be here next weekend. I did get a call from him:
Nana, can you come get me????
such a cute call but nearly breaks my heart when he does that. He is 6 hour away. Anyway....he will be here soon. I am hoping that when it gets a little warmer, he will be able to come spend weeks with me at a time. He loves it, and so do I. It is just more fun in the warmer weather because we like to play outside and take long walks and work in the flower gardens. It is amazing what a 3 year old remembers. sometimes for a bedtime story, he tells me about one of our "summertime days", and will talk his way through an entire day that we spent maybe 6 or 8 months ago. He sure has a better memory than I do.
Ruby, where are you in Virginia? I am very familiar with southwestern Virginia, but not sure where Crozet is.
Sure hope you are all well now and not letting the dreary days get to you. these first few weeks of January can be a big downer after the festivities that have been going on since Thanksgiving. It is very different for me to be alone again, especially after having had Ashley wih me since September. But I always enjoy my days by cramming them full of fun things. I have several paintings I am trying to finish this week, and then need to change the gallery soon. I have enough projects to get me through a couple of months then it will be time to work in the yard. In the meantime there are always garden catalogs.
I feel really good now, thanks for asking. The new meds are working, the only problem is that I am having trouble going to sleep, it is 1:11 a.m. and i am still going strong. The doctor tells me it will take some time to adjust...so I will just try to be patient.
Had a good day, talked with a very good friend tonight on the phone, and enjoyed a visit from two former students, both of whom have young families of their own. So i am never alone really, it is a lot like Betty's in this tiny town. I have had everybody in class at one time or another.
Happy Monday to you.
And hugs for everybody.
Shar
Judy- What color are you painting your door?
Liz- Glad you survived the visit with the inlaws. What are you knitting?
Betty- Take care of your hands, glad to hear that you found your tool for that.
Shar- Glad to hear that your back is better. What grade did you teach?
Ruby- I LOVE freecycle! That is where I found Scrappy and many other great things!
Helln- I just started a lasagna bed a few weeks ago, I just keep adding to it. Any secrets to success that you have found?
Starzz- What's new with you?
Laura- Hope that you are enjoying your time off.
Hugs, Rachel
hi Rachel,
I taught high school juniors and seniors, and I taught Humanities and studio art (painting, ceramics, mixed media and photography) .
You are doing much better than I in your mention of everybody in your posts. I think of everybody during the day, and wonder what is going on with everyone, then when I sit down at night, I never remember specifics. That drives me so nuts, but I do it every time. I am going to have to start taking notes, because if I start flipping back and forth to look up at all the postings, I always lose what i am writing. I am as bad as Betty.
And we keep asking Gita because we are all thinking about the color of our bridesmaid dresses. I am thinking something really really bright blue....or maybe fuschia. Let's not go with greens, though, because greens and yellows just are not my colors. (teehee!)
Nite, ladies!
Shar- I like the fuschia! I scroll through the posts as I am writing. As long as I don't open a picture that is attached to a post I don't loose my message, that is unless the cat walks across the keyboard, which happens quite frequently!
Studio Art how fun!
Well off to bed for me as well. Rachel
Rachel, is Scrappy a pet? I always try to say a prayer that the animals being traded on the Freecycle board goes to good homes.
Yeah, I love freecycle too.
Ruby
Doesn't sound like you girls got much sleep last night..lol
I was up at 4:45 am. tidying up..can't have all those painters think my house isn't clean..almost time for me to get my trusty step ladder..and give the once over eye to all the higher areas...with being 5' (maybe 1/2" less) I clean what I see, but there are higher levels..learnt the stepladder thing when I dated a guy for a few months (long ago) he was 6'2" imagine, anyway didn't want him to see dust so I got up to his level... (did that bring a smile?)
It's snowing here this morning and they are calling for much the same all week..we did enjoy the nice weather though while it lasted..
Someone had a brilliant idea when you want to post a long post..go into word perfect (or what you have) do all your writting then copy and paste here..stops the looking at photo's to comment and loose your post...problem is I never think I'm going to gab for long and voila I have an entire novel...
Must leave now..finishing my cup of coffee with you girls..

so everyone have a good day
This is for those of you who were asking about my little sweetheart, Emily Nicole, six months. This picture was taken on Christmas Day of 2007. Check out my new red lounging attire. I also ordered a set in deep purple which is my favorite.
I may not have told you all, but I already know that I will find it hard to ever say NO to this child. My knees go weak when she grins at me. Am I proud? nah!
Thanks for letting me share.
Ruby
Morning everyone,
I can't keep up....LOL
I got Gunner's postcard ready..today it is snowing..so I don't know when I'll get to the post office..
Judy my neighbour's grandson did learn the sheet music of Parade of the Wooden soldiers..and played it beautifully for us at an evening get together before Christmas. I was so happy he took the time to learn it. This is his sister singing along with him as he played another song. I'm amazed that you remembered that I had found the sheet music in the antique shop.
Cheers,
Carol
Oh Ruby..adorable..Love the last photo where Emily is waving..Nice to 'Meet" you.
Aren't grandchildren wonderful.
We have Freecycle here in Canada too. I actually signed up for the e-mails..but haven't used it yet.
Betty..you seem to have every tool imaginable..but I know how when you tidy up, and move something..then you can't remember where you moved it to. Now that you have found it..it will be handy for any further work on the stained glass.
Hope the drive in wasn't too messy..
Liz..did the drains keep running alright?
Oh..Judy..congrats to Jacob..
Now, you all know I don't do crafts..but I want to show you a quilt my DIL made for my 60th birthday..is is the first and only one she has ever made.
Photo of my gazebo in the centre..old photo of my three kids when they were little..and photos of my three kids grown with their kids.
Cheers,
Carol
Just got in to work
Carol weather is getting pretty tricky from home to Toronto..they weren't calling for much but seems they've made an error in their readings..ouch, nothing like having cuts at the tips of your fingers...hurts to type..could be good new for you all!!! lol
Love the blanket Carol, with memory photo's included..a treasure indeed...I made a quilt for my grandmother years ago..each block had one of the 8 children, their children, then theirs and theirs..my goodness think I have 4 or 5 generations counting my grandmother...embroidered (by machine of course) all the names..when she passed on they gave it to me..should really get back to finding out all the newborns, and add them to the quilt..lots of work though so probably won't..just read recently that Pisces is lazy...hmmm...maybe I better sit more, do less...what do you think...
Carol, was it you by any chance that showed the gazebo using a 10' satelite dish??? Will be in search for one so I can have my gazebo built in early spring.. if it was..need more photo's..and Carol, you do crafts, I see all the lovely things you do within your garden..beautiful indeed...as for tools, if it's a tool I either want it, buy it or someone treats me to it..so yes, almost every tool for each individual craft sits in my craft room..and woodworking shop and back shed, under the beds, in the cupboards..you get the drift..
Ruby, I can identify with the 'Mrs.Santa' and purchasing all those pretty things...lol keep up the good work! Especially love the photo of Emily Nicole waving..another gardener for DG..you look beautiful dressed in red! Have to call you the 'Lady in Red'...
Judy, wrestling .. hm.. a champion at that..now does he practice on his sisters..
Liz, do you do this each and every Sunday??? Visit in-laws??? sad when they get to the point that they are so uncomfortable being in pain, unable to accomplish things as they did in the past..guess arguing becomes their next 'past time' sorry you get caught in the process..now what does DH do when this happens or is he just content to listen?? Mom goes on Tuesday..then I believe flies back to Florida on the weekend
Better send this before I loose it..lol
betty, dh starts to whistle and look at the celling lol , yes we go just about every sunday, when kennys daughter comes to visit i take a day off from them and of coarse my mom starts oh you up there again so you cant please either side.
thank god im 2hours away from the inlaws and 20 minutes away from my family, funny when the inlaws lived here for years we had to go have dinner with them every night ,that was hard there were times i didnt want to go but out of respect i had to go do what i had to do so when the said they were moving we both rejoiced in the happy dance lol im so bad..
Liz..you have me smilling..been busy this morning, thank goodness..fingers are too sore to type...one of these days, when I get brave enough, I'm going to ask the boys what they truly think of me???
Now that's dangerous territory isn't it..but one wonders .. different points of view..
I remember once we were at a function and everyone was talking about parenthood and time they spent with their children when they were young..I remember how proud I was..everything we did on a weekly basis, entertainment, sports, with me all the time so I spoke us to say I felt great about their upbringing..well, one of the boys said, mom you didn't do a whole lot with us..my heart almost stopped beating..my goodness where did that come from..so, they went on to say that although they were well entertained, each time they went out with me there were 30-40 others kids...so when I was doing my job as Recreation Co-ordinator taking them all over, here they were thinking they were being ignored because I dragged them along to everything and here I was thinking just how wonderful it was to have them with me..quite a difference of opinion..still think they had it pretty good..but they say I should have done more with them alone..needless to say they were 12 and had ski-doos/boats/went skiing etc. none of which I could participate in..should tell them perhaps they didn't give ME much of their time..lol
morning everyone... had no internet for a couple of days... argghhh
welcome and hello ruby!
back to work... yuk! oh well another day another dollar.
nothing to report here, still havnt seen my grand kids for more than two weeks now, breaks my heart...
never mind, there are some things you can do nothing about.
must get ready for work
have a good day all.
x
lol..Carol doubt we need forms...it's almost turning into rain..must be getting warmer outside...I've been busy/busy..Paul's and Suzanne write exams at the law society on Thursday and are trying to study..clients coming in without appt. and Paul's just lost his cool...no one in particular, just stressed..came in to apologize to me because he almost bit my head off .. think he was embarrased because he said some swear words..so I was in doing the manual for the law society as a guideline and he apologized...so it's been a nice, something to keep me occupied, didn't even do crafts..will have to put in a grievance won't I...another 5 minutes and it's home I go..think I might just relax..take out all my garden books, well not all, have a few hundred of those, just look at the pretty pictures, take some notes, ideas etc. and relax...
I had steak for lunch so doubt I'll need supper..perhaps yams and balogna will do...Monday is over with, that's a good thing..
Once I sent my first post so I wouldn't loose it, wanted to get back to everyone then got busy, so haven't forgotten some of you, I'll try and catch up tonight...
Ruby- Emily is beautiful! It won't be long before she's out helping Gram in the garden. I love the red outfit, I bet the purple will look just as lovely on you!
Liz- Sorry to hear about the sewer problems that's always a pain in the buttt (hehehe!)
Carol- What a gorgeous quilt! I love that the neighbors children learned the song, how sweet. Your snowman made me smile :0)
Laura- We've missed you! Glad to hear your back online.
Just got in..weather is turning nasty - not a nice ride home..traffic was dead stopped not far from work..apparently a woman had a baby in the backseat of her car, went to the sitters to pick up another of her children, when she went into the house, someone stole the car with the baby in it.. anyway there was an accident..baby ok, caught the thief and the roads were closed so took a little longer to get home..imagine the horror the mom went through..guess in these times one has to consider every possibility..thank goodness baby is ok..
I was pleasantly surprised..I picked up linoleum at Home Depot last Sunday and from the piece we got 6 floormats..now I'll post the photo of how much they got accomplished today..these are seniors..George is in late 70's are are most of the women..6 decided to do the same piece...the project is about 1/2 done..there will be loons and trees painted next Monday..they are so very excited about the projects they bring home..they amaze themselves.. so thought I'd post their partially finished project..
Must be picture night..got an e-mail asking me post photo's of some sewing..coats/vest...so found a few..
for those of you not interested please just skip the next 5 or 6 posts..know it must get boring to see me post/post/post photo's..just trying to pass on some ideas that a few were interested in seeing...again, my apologies..
This one is called trapunda..
Free hand quilting with machine..some overlays, some double sewing needle work..made the vests but never feel comfortable wearing something I've made, except for the jackets..I've about 10 of them..lol..
Jeannine, know how much you love applique..will have to search for my Georgian Bay jacket..all different types of jeans are used..scenes are made i.e. lake, pine trees, deer/moose etc. all cut from jeans...beautiful..did one for my DIL's, gave it to them only to find out it wasn't the type of garment they enjoy wearing..sure wish I'd know before I spent weeks taking seams out of jeans..lol
This one is done in 2 pieces only...front and then the back..sews together and clipped edges for form the braiding...taught this one to beginners..they loved it..
Hi everyone. Sounds like you are all busy.
I ran across the link below and sat there smiling the entire time. It's a couple of weeks late but I wanted to share. Think I'll post it on Carols thread too. He's so cute!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sUL0KCIc48&feature=related
No more, promise..
Laura, glad you are back up and running..don't you worry, daughter will see the error in her way and will come round..
How IS work going..you haven't mentioned much about it since boss was being ever so nice...sounds like you are enjoying your summer...
What are you up to Rachel? guess you've lots to keep you out of mischiel..
Rudy, how kind to donate the craft and gift items...I'm sure you will get the urge to do a few more projects..sometimes its wonderful to take a break from them...
My best of today...feeling as though I earned my paycheck today
Worse..Paul's bad humour or at least it was for the last 2 hours..nothing staff did..just clients...he explains things 10 times and they still get it wrong..
What did I learn...that I'd better start clearing some of my closest..now how can a woman fill 6 closets??? thank goodness no one else lives here..
Cat, how wonderful...thanks...put it on my favorites so I can use it next year..doesn't it just want to make you smile...
I was sitting here smiling as I watched him. He was having a ball! Just sheer pleasure from something so simple. We could all learn from animals.
Talk about fluffy snow...
Just called my mom she had the minor operation this morning..they had cancellation so they worked her in..she won't get biopsy for a week or so, she's leaving on Sat. and Jim is leaving the week after..
Mom got worried today when she called Aunt Muriel to see if she's been giving mom's dog her eye drops..think it might have been when Aunt Muriel asked if the eye's had to be open...lol...that would do it..
Now I'm on my 2nd breath, getting my gardening books out and off to bed I go...
Sleep well my friends
Betty - BEAUTIFUL jackets and vests! OMG!!! Don't you dare give them away. Sell them on eBay!!!!! I LOVE the cream vest with the quilting. You did that ALL freehand????
And now onto the floormats - OH MY GOSH! AWESOME!!! I wouldn't want to put that on my floor!!!! Absolutely wonderful!!!!
Laura, I've heard you've had extremely hot temps down there. I hope you're keeping cool!
Now on to a more serious subject. I rec'd an email from a dear friend today that I hadn't spoken to in a couple of months. She used to work with me but has moved on to another company. I emailed her to just catch up and have found out that her 87 year old father passed away on 1/1. I have met both of her parents and they were wonderful people. Had been married for 63 years and dated for 6 before that. Her 87 yr old mother is a wonderful artist of Faberge' style eggs. She made one for me to give my mother last year. Her mother has had a very hard time with her DH passing. It was a shock as he wasn't really ill and she was the one to find him. Please keep my friend and her mother and family in your thoughts & prayers.
I'll chat back ya tomorrow!
Jeannine
Betty- I'm with Jeannine, don't you dare take those beauties to the Goodwill! I love the vest with all of the little quilt squares, it is darling! Why don't you wear them they are beautiful! The "floor mats" should be hung on the wall, they are magnificent! More paint, hehe, you won't run out anytime soon!
Cat - The video is darling.
cat, that is the greatest video. How absolutely happy he is. Beautiful.
ms Betty....the vests are wonderful, as is everything that you do. I am with GG and Rach, don't you dare discard those vests. Save them for us, we might need them for our bridesmaids dresses....or maybe for the pre wedding shower.
Jeannine, I love those quilt kits. I got the catalog and sit and drool. I can't decide what I want to make. I would love to make one of the full bed sized ones, but wouldn't want to spend that much for the kit...now if I just looked through my fabrics, (like Betty's paints) and if I had that fusible stuff, I'll bet I could do one without the kit. BUT, GG, don't you think that in order to do a full sized quilt, it would have to be done in blocks? I guess I need to order a kit in order to work through the entire process before I tried to tackle it on my own. Yours are so beautiful.
Wouldn't it be fun if we were close enough that we could get together like maybe two or three times a year? I was thinking that everybody could come to my house for a long weekend when the weather is a little less treacherous....well, I have 4 bedrooms, a den, a living room, a game room....a big deck, a fairly large yard....no family here, just my 2 cats and me......we could have a slumber party that lasted a loooooong weekend. I just think that would be so fun. The only expense would be travel.
Just thinking....fun thoughts.
You all have a good night and a sunshiny tomorrow.
