Mike, is yours FIOS, or just DSL? We have FIOS. My sister, next town over, has just DSL and her Verizon seems to go down every week or so.
Scattelogical ramblings and desultory humor - do over?
I don't know what FIOS is, so I assume I don't have it. Everything here is about 20 years behind the times as far as technology goes. My service is interrupted daily.
We just got indoor plumbing.
Not going to Verizon FIOS either.
Fast 5 Mbps download
2 Mbps upload 1st month FREE
$32.99 months 2-7
$42.99 thereafter
I was on Adelphia which became Comcast for like 10 years. I switched last Nov. with a contract for a year (to keep it or get charged). At first it was OK but as time has gone on it has slowed tremendously.
I pay approx. 167 a month for tv, comp and tele. So if I change all to Comcast for 99 bucks a month - OK with taxes say 130 a month, I save approx. 37 bucks a month.
I CAN SPEND 37 BUCKS A MONTH MORE ON PLANTS :-)
5Mbps is not very fast. My cable is faster than that - usually between 7 and 12 when I test it.
How do we test the speed?
Just Google 'broadband speed test' and many sites will come up.
schickenlady: This should make you feel better.
download: 37 kbps
upload: 126 kbps
Faster upload??! That is very strange.
Thanks. I'll do it now.
schickenlady: You are going to be faster than a speeding bullet compared to me!
Schick - I assume you have a direct (wire) connection to your computer and not a wireless (wifi), correct?
Okay - because the wifi can sometimes slow things down.
Okay. Since the tests were free I did two of them:
11,149
1857
and
10,882
1841
Is that good or bad?
Very good!
Great! This morning I also followed the directions to defrag and the system analyzed and then said it didn't need it. Whew!
I'm on cable
I got:
Down 6905
Up 490
I guess what I have is dregs. Is this a consequence of living in rural America?
That's not bad, Al. It varies throughout the day of course.
I have 9.09 Mbps on Verizon FIOS.
Since you folks seem to know computers and I don't, can someone please tell me what I do go get back the capability of clicking on links and having them appear? I lost it some time today and haven't a clue. I did post the question in the Computer forum but don't yet have an answer. Thanks.
Do you mean posting links or clicking on posted links?
Clicking on posted links.
I tried three and got three different results:
3763 kbps down
263 kbps up
1219 kbps down
512 kbps up
1279.8 didn't indicate up or down but I assume down.
So what the heck does all this mean??
Somehow you owe me $91
Pirl, I had that problem and I had to "allow pop-ups" to get that capability back.
Pirl - you click on a link and nothing happens? Weeze, they do vary from one to another and from time to time.
I'll try it, Louise. Then, after I get a link to work I'll put the pop up blocker back on again and give it another try. Thank you for your help.
Yes, Victor - nothing happens.
What browser do you use, Pirl?
IE.
I tried to get links with the pop-up blocker off and it didn't work.
Ooh - I use Firefox. I assume the problem is everywhere, not just DG.
I rarely go anywhere that I find links to click on but I can try the other garden site to test it.
I like Firefox - not only is it faster, I can put up my Patriots skin!
Try a news site.
Will do. No luck at the other place.
I went to CBS and couldn't get any of their stories to come up for me.
Not even the Man eating dog one?
