Scattelogical ramblings and desultory humor - do over?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Nice weather we're having.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Yeah, about noon you and Bill should head over there.

North Augusta, ON

foggy, foggy, foggy

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

raining here......

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

It's melting here. Can't see any lawn, but the road is finally clear!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

So beautiful here. NYC expecting 68 degrees today!

Greensboro, AL

This is my "cure" for a cold/flu. Its sort of like ZuZu's except the vehicle is peanut butter instead of vodka. The object is to get as much capsican as possible into you. And sometimes you don't have vodka in the cupboard!

2 sl bread
A whole bunch of peanut butter--your preference creamy or chunky.
Stick on as many jalapeno peppers as will stay in the sandwich.
Eat the jalapeno peanut butter sandwich.

Then jump into bed as Zu says, with all the blankets in the house on top of you. A dog or two on top of that might even help.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

It's not even 68 in my house.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Br-r-r-r-r!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Not that bad.

Such a shame to see Ohio State lose last night.LOL
Was amusing to keep hearing Richard Nixon being called out.

Thanks Zuzu for the "drastic" remedy - but no vodka en casa.
Gloria - that sounds like a sandwich I would like if I wasn't ill.
5 star Thai with homeopathic remedy seemed to do the trick - I am on the mend. Fresh air works wonders too.

Greensboro, AL

Katye: Hope you are recovering and having some beautiful weather like we are to encourage you to get out. 70 degrees here.

5 star Thai? Does it have hot peppers in it?

gloria

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

The star rating is indicative of the "heat": the higher the number, the hotter.
Peppers? you betcha!

I know the effectiveness of capsicum all too well. Long time back I was told that the best way, let me rephrase that - the quickest way to get rid of a headcold/sinus infection is to snort cayenne pepper. Well, yes, it is extremely effective but I felt like I was living a cartoon episode. Not worth the discomfort. What was I thinking? That's the problem...I wasn't!

Greensboro, AL

I don't think I want to snort it. Ow. Ive been making a soup everyday this winter with a handful of japones to start off. I take other antioxidants as well. So far no flu, no cold. But then I hardly have much exposure either.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Katye - you are one brave person! Sounds like a new hobby - snorting cayenne.

Gloria - we use spices and take many supplements and vitamins daily and we haven't had any colds or flu either. (Yes, I cheated and did get a flu shot)

While sitting where you are at your desk in front of your computer, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles.
Now, while doing this, draw the number '6' in the air with your right hand. Your foot will change direction!

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Not brave - just didn't process that one all the way to its logical end.
No more cayenne up the nose - salt water works, though. And it does NOT hurt.

What really made me feel better was repeated doses of fresh air - it felt like I could not get enough, even breathing deeply.
I am so used to being outside (March - November) and I so look forward to zooming through the next couple months - although we won't have any decent sunshine until May or June!

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Deb, I am so glad nobody watched me doing that.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

It is difficult to do but it is do-able: really have to concentrate and go slow.
Gotta try it with the other side & other directions...

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That made the email rounds few years back, Deb. It's hilarious. I can't do it.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Gee Victor, all my emails are old - I'm way behind the times!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

They're always recycled, Deb.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

My cats are sitting here watching me twirl my foot and make 6's in the air...they're not amused...but I am ! I can't do it either, Victor.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I don't know anyone who can. Maybe Gumby.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Along those same lines, here is something to try: For whatever reason, WOMEN can do this, but MEN can't.

Take a dining room chair, or any chair with a back (but no arms) on it, and place the chair with the back against a wall.

Take your foot and go 3 foot sizes out from the wall. (Like when you are pacing off trying to meausre...)

At this point, you need to be standing facing the chair, so it's directly in front of you.
Put your head aginst the wall...so you're pretty much at a right angle, and grab the seat of the chair, using BOTH hands.

WITHOUT removing your hands, try to stand up, while lifting the chair...you have to leave your hands on the chair...no using your arms for pushing etc.

A woman can stand up while grasping the chair.
Men can't. Men fall forward into the wall.

I have yet to see a man who can do this.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

you can do it if you go real slow - concentrate on the clockwise circles your foot is making, not the #6 your RH is making.
This is going to make my right foot unscrew.
OK switched sides & did the opposite (counter-clockwise circles with LF combined with clockwise circles with the LH) but the L foot is not cooperating & has decided to go on strike...

Maybe the foot/hand circles would be easier to do while trying to stand up grasping the chair...

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

No wonder most men can't dance !

Greensboro, AL

Patrick Swayze can.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

JD - is this because men are generally taller/long-waisted (longer torso)/
Have larger feet?

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I don't know...maybe ! Someone told me it has to do with mens center of gravity being different than women's...

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

You had me worried there for a minute JD.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

It's far easier if you do it very fast.

Haven't tried the chair experiment yet.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I can't remember where I read it but women do have a different center of gravity from men. Womens center of gravity is different to accompany the ability to carry children for 9 months.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I remember reading something about that, too. I'll have to Google it and see what I can find. Wasn't it something about "Why don't women fall over when they're pregnant?" or something really close to that?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

LOL Pirl, I found a different one with approx. the same info.

That chair thing was on an episode of All in the Family way back when! I will try the chair thing while rotating my foot and let you know.

I love to dance - got it from mom, along with my brother. My father and sister have two left feet. Maybe they can twirl them and do a 6.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Your memory is incredible Victor...that's where I remember seeing the chair thing, now that you mention it.

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

i think you have to pick up the chair, then stand up.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, that's the way I remember it from the show, Amy. I have to try it.
