Please wish her happy birthday! (I liked Mirage even more.)

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Happy birthday to Pixie's DGD.

Victor - this is a brand new year. You have every opportunity to behave and I sincerely hope you don't.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I behaved the first few hours. Glad that's out of the way now!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Whew! Careful you don't get carried away with your resolutions.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I've truly only made one New Years resolution in my life. When I turned 30, I resolved to commit to exercising regularly for the rest of my life, and so far so good. At that point I had stopped playing sports regularly and would start and stop gym memberships, etc.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Good job!

There are some people who just resolve to be whiny and complain more than ever before and they usually succeed, much to our despair.

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Celeste, you must be all legs! I'm 5'4" with a 28" inseam.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That's what I meant. Celegggs! Our own Elastigirl!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I always considered my legs short. I do have 4 brothers that are 6 feet or over so that may be where I get my comparision from. I look at their legs, and say "yup, mine are short!"
Now brother Brian is 5'6" and only has a 29" inseam and I am technically 5'3" and 3/4, not 5'4".
I think it has a lot to do with hanging upside down on tree branches from the back of my knee's and acting like a monkey.
You can laugh, but I had to have some way of getting away from 6 older brothers!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Funny! I'm close to brother Brian. 5' 6 1/2" and about a 29 inch inseam. The 'short' legs did not keep me from being a fast runner, however.

Forecast is not funny. High of 20 predicted for tomorrow! Brrrrrr!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Forecast is terrible for tomorrow but then it improves - well, it almost had to improve, didn't it?

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

high of 20 will get you running fast...

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I was out today when it was sunny, 30 degrees and no wind and it was fine. Once the sun goes into hiding I don't want to be outside...not in winter.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

We have gotten approx. 30" of snow in the last month. Sugarloaf USA has recieved 33" in the last 7 days.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

16 and windy here now. Low of around 11 predicted. Good thing the earth is so close to the sun today!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Maybe you better hop over to the sun?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'll let my son.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

It is now:
Fair 9°
Feels Like: -7° w/wcf

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I call 9 degrees UNFAIR.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Well, I learned a new term! "Alberta Clipper" apparently refers to frigid cold weather that arrives from the northwest.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Good one Victor, and so do I!

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Alberta Clipper also carries a short term snow storm with it!! Not a lot of moisture with it cause it comes in over land. Cold outside this morning -3!! Eleanor

Here is a cold pic to go along with the cold temps. Eleanor

3.4 when I took dd to school this a.m. My dh went to MN for a one-day business trip today. So I had to go to the next town over (Bellingham) to take care of his dog.

He has a pit bull, "Baby", that he keeps in a small building on property there. Our town has too strict laws, making it not worth keeping the dog here. So I get there, and the big swing gate key-lock is frozen. He gave me a blow torch in case that happened, but I couldn't get it going. I figured I'd pour some of my coffee on it, which froze on contact!

I walked under the gate and down the drive to the building. Couldn't get the door unlocked! Tried every key on the ring, just in case. Jiggled, banged, etc., but nothing. If it was 30 or 40 out, I would have stayed and tried longer, but today - forget it! My dh will have to deal with the mess when he comes back tonight! And the dog can survive without food for the day, in my opinion.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Ahhh, we finally made it to 0° but the windchill makes it -17°.
Still not going out!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Eleanor - add a few stars and that could be a "Silent Night" poster!

Sue - dogs do survive better than we think. Good luck.

Pixie - isn't it almost amusing when the temperature rises to zero? We're having a heat wave now at 9.2 but it's -7 with WCF.
