Winter's here! But having Spring Memories!!

Hillsborough , NC(Zone 7a)

No. No, not me , I was gasping at TM! See what happens from being a slow typist!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

I can't keep up with what thread I am on. Seems as though many of us jump around a lot and I never know where I am...did I just admit that?

Hillsborough , NC(Zone 7a)

Oh Christi, I though it was just me!

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

I know the feeling braveheart. . .only i type fast. . .just slow thoughts

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Wait now heatwave 22* and climbing, this keeps up I'll be swimming by noon!!!LOL
Yes I always kept my brugies in a too small of a pot, just so they wouldn't rot,and waited until they looked like they were about dying of thirst!!!!
You can always tail when a brug doesn't need watering the leaves are always full and nice looking, the minute they start to look wilty, you know they need a drink!

Hillsborough , NC(Zone 7a)

LOL!

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

well I type with one finger from both hands!!!LOL

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

oh and all the proofreading too. . . in case i might hurt someone's feelings.

Hillsborough , NC(Zone 7a)

Maybe that's the secret to not rotting, smaller pots - thanks TM!
How's this for the little brug that tried hard...

Just read today's article by PalmBob. I'm probably the only one here that didn't know all of those plants were palms. I know I'm the only one. Lots of good information for a person like me. I know why a lot of things have died in the past now. I have 5 brugs in pots that I started from seed last summer. And about 10 cuttings that Mitch did. The cuttings are in a big bowl planter and all are leafing out. Hope they survive the winter. They are in the tool shed/barn with flourescent shop lights and a small electric heater. So far, so good.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

cross posted. Is that a cutting, Jenny? How great. The blooms are bigger than the entire thing. Magic.

Hillsborough , NC(Zone 7a)

Yep, a cutting and not doing too well leafwise, but blooming it's little heart out!
See you all later, got to dash...

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

I can hardly get 3 blooms on a huge plant and she can get it 3 on a 6 inch cutting!!!LOL
BH must be green all over!!!LOL

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

WOW Jenny, that is awesome! Maybe just one of my 10 cuttings will do that for me one day!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Whups! Just found out a Sago Palm isn't a palm at all...it is a succulent. PalmBob is another wealth of knowledge. Tman, the two of you can just about cover everything...of course, we need to add RJ, Shari, Carol, Jenny,Jeanne, etc., etc., etc. (hearing Yul Brynner as in the King and I)...etc.,etc.etc.

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

I counted. 8 trees, which I need to take cuttings, and 53 cuttings, most potted and some rooted. NOT THOUSANDS!! lol. Anyway, Only about 20 are named and the rest are NOID, but....I noticed a dear friend of mine who has.....ADELINE!! I am dying for her. That is Teensy's middle name. If you have extra cuttings this spring, dear friend, please let me know. ;^)

Morning or afternoon everyone. Teensy will be brought up every once and a while, so let me introduce you to her. She turned three in Nov. BTW, it's not her real name. Many people have asked that. lol.

Of course..anything for Teensy! It has 5 leaves so far...and I heard that it takes 2 years to bloom...(hope not)!! Think I hear TMan snickering back there!
News to me about the Sago palm, Christi.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

I asked about it on the "Thank You" thread on today's article.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

I read too that it's toxic...anyway, I'm curious and will google it.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Well I have a sago thats shaking outside in this cold, warm 27* now!!!!
It just put out a new flush of leaves in October,so I hope it doesn't lose them to the cold and ice and snow!!!! Yes I know it's not really hardy here!Yet! But I'm working on it to be!!!LOL

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Christi, I read that Bob described it as a succulent conifer. Interesting. Found this link...

Drape that baby with a quilt TMan!

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

It's got a hard plastic over the top of it,for protection to keep the ice and snow from the crown, but no heat source of any kind to keep it warm,I've had this sago about 8 yrs now and don't want to lose it,but yet make it into a hardy palm so to speak ,if possible.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Tman, if anyone can do it, it would be you! :)

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

special prayers for Tman's sago!

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Thought I oughta go take a look at my sago and see how it's doing, looks like there are fine even the sabal minor seems to be still growing despite all the ice and snow!

Still over a foot or more in some places, look I still have leaves on my orange tree, the branch going across the stake,I was going to cover it with hard plastic, but never got around to getting it done!

Leather leaf Mahonia not liking the ice from the storm we had a week ago, still hanging on,hasn't been warm enough to melt yet.

Don, I'm freezing just looking at all the white in your pics. Read that sago's hardy below 20*...so you're on to something there.
Which of your palms are fast growers?

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

This acuba japonica,I think thats what they are called, was completely covered in snow, and it is next to the house,is doing great,so they are quite hardy plant.

Well this is whats in the ground now,Washy Filfilera, and Pindo palm, trachycarpus
fortunei and trachycarpus waggie, sabal minor and the sago, seems all are growing about the same, pretty slow, but hopefully they will take off and grow faster when they have a few years in the ground.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

I've been itching to raise a traveller's palm....what say you?

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

You must have the greenest of green thumbs, Tman!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

He's green all over Tammy!!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

He must be! LOL I wish I had just a teensy weensy bit of that green! :)
