Hiya Lana!!! Lana's a sweetheart, ladies, Don and RJ! She has this incredible talent with flower arrangements.
Can't y'all tell I love my baby Stoogette! (that's the endearing term we gave her at MidSouth)!!
Yessir, a wonderful group of people here! :)
Thank you Don, what a warm welcome! It's almost customary in my family to take off shoes when entering my or someone else's home. . .so my shoes were at the front door the moment I said hello! You are too generous. Thank you. . .I don't have a list yet. . .sort of new to tropicals. What I have are a few bougies, a couple of plumies, ixora, thryallis, mandevillas, and a couple of allamandas. I just bought a cheapo greenhouse to protect them. Perhaps you can help me build my list? Oh, and my dad has some guava seedlings if he'd let me use to trade for some cool tropicals. Well, nice to meet you Don.
Hiya back Jaye. . .you are too sweet. I don't know what I did to deserve you????
Hi Misty! Did you ever find your Pupil?
HIYA!!! You have way more tropicals than I do then! You lucky thing you! :) TM is the one who will get ya started for sure! He is awesome with his tropicals and his knowledge of them, wait til you see his pics, WOWZA!!!!!!!!!!!
Nope, no pupil yet, but distant said she had heard from her, just waiting to hear back! The little stinker pupil is! :)
Lana look at these links,to get a idea what you might be interested in.

BEWARE Lana, his pics are mind blowing! :)
Don, you are the Man! Wow, are you sure you live in Wichita, KS? I do believe it when I saw that snowed in picture. I've scanned through them and a few things jumped out at me. Is that a night blooming cereus? I remember my sister calling me late one night to check hers out! It was a beautiful sight. She moved since then and left that huge pot behind. She said she loves it but can only enjoy it at night. She offered it to me, but it was so heavy, I couldn't lift it. Forgot to get dh, and then the house was sold.
I haven't gotten through all your pics yet. Pc is a little slow at the moment because I clicked "view all". From what I've seen so far, you have a beautiful tropical paradise there. Love all the varieties of hibiscus and passifloras you have. But the one that I think I love is the silvery (?) foliage with the white outline. What is that? And also the foliage with the fall colors at the tip? Beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing your pics. . .will be back. Have to go view more of them.
Lana..I'll send you some cuttings of the white cereus, if you want.
Yes, we all "borrow" Don's greenhouses...I can't imagine the hours he puts into his gh!
I feel bad asking for something I left behind. Okay, I would like them, but only if I pay postage or if I have something you want.
Lana
Ok...I'll take Peyton!
:=D
Good one! But what will u do with Lola??
LOL Gave the cereus away this fall, but the plant your referring to is a weed called snow on the mountain, grows in the pastures and ditches here, well out in the country.
It reseeds it self like mad,I have to pull hundreds of small seedlings up late spring.
Glad you are enjoying the pictures, just finished planting a couple hundred palm seeds
today, easy work, but my back is killing me,and when people ask you if you exercise, you say no but I garden they say thats not exercise, don't have a clue how back breaking it can be!!!LOL
Hi Lana, nice to meet you! :)
I have a Payton grandaughter. So who is Peyton?
Welcome Lana! Aloha and Yokwe, and Chao Chi!! When you get your list put together, just sort of give a holler...some of us have one thing, some another and we are all pretty willing to enable another tropickid. Or as Tammy calls us tropicaholics. ☺ We have a lot of fun in this forum, and we almost always end up barefoot and talkin bout food! Glad to have you join us!
Hi Lana, welcome to the tropical madness, grab a snack!
Cathy
Tropicman, who says gardening isn't exercise. Here's a calorie count for what you burn when you garden. Send them here if they continue to talk trash! http://www.calorie-count.com/calories/activities/8.html
Speaking of exercise. . . . . .Food??? Did someone say food? If you like Vietnamese food, I have some to share! Nice to meet you Marcy, Islandshari, and svplantingfool. I shouldn't be hijacking Tropicman's thread with all the wonderful welcomes. LouC, Peyton is my 19 month old son. Seems like there are lots of girl Paytons lately. Didn't think of that when dh suggested Peyton. . . . as in Peyton Manning!
Okay back to the subject. Here is my strange bougie that put out so much foliage without one colorful bract throughout the summer, but is putting out color now when it's cold. A lot of the foliage has fallen off and looks shriveled up. It's stressed out, isn't it? And that's why it's "blooming" now huh? Should I be worried?
Jumping in here - and I am no expert - but we do absolutely nothing for our bougies, except that they are in full sun. It seems they do better on neglect and little water!
Same here in FL. We just ignore them and they grow like weeds. Fertilizing usually gives lots of leaves, but no flowers.
Hi and welcome karma!!
It may be blooming now because it is getting sun and less water. They tend to bloom most when they are on the dry side. Not to worry about stealing a thread, we all to it to each other all the time. We are experts at off topic!
You got that right!! If we don't get off topic there is something wrong with us. lol
What's the topic again Pepper?
Well, there issomething wrong with us, but that is neither here nor there...eh Pep?
Here I find that if we ever get off topic. Just redirect ourselves back to food then all's forgiven.
Right Tman!! Lolol!
How about chocolate covered macadamia nuts? They're both tropicals...
Speaking of food , well we would have soon or later...I'm off (yea, yea, I know) to help my daughter make lasagne for my Son in Law's birthday. You kids have a great night, and I'll catch ya on the flip side.
Yokwe all!
Shari
Cathy now you're talking yummy....
Nite Shari.
I'm off too. Gotta go to Iowa tomorrow early morning.
Nighty night Shari!
Pepper, the chapel and the snow are beautiful!
Tropicman, forgot to say. . .snow on the mountain is the best looking weed I've ever seen. I must be weird. . .'cause from all of your beautiful tropicals, I have your weed on the top of my list. Thanks for the advice on my bougie. . .wait, did I get any advice? LOL. . .I got an overwhelming "IGNORE IT". Thanks! Nice to meet you Pepper. And good to know off-topics are welcomed. Gotta go to bed. . .good nite everyone. . .I'm so glad I worked up the courage to introduce myself. Y'all have been great!
Lana
Goodness, I am a slow typer. 10 posts while I was typing 3 sentences!
Welcome Lana! We all love food....any kind. I love oriental food. Chocolate covered macadamias are goooood! We've just about finnished off that spoon fudge! It was yummy!
Thought I was the early bird of the bunch.
Well, it is that time.
Night, night, Jeanne
Didn't mean to leave you. Long day today and another tomorrow.
Cold tonight and supposed to get colder. Under freezing by morning.
Not to worry. I plan to call it a "night" early as well!
Night Christi!
Kicking off my shoes, putting on my shades, listening to Jimmy play and enjoying this tropical drink in my hand.
Hi Karma, Heaven, Misty, and LouC. Thanks, I think, for the link.
Tropicman, I want to move into your yard and greenhouse please. Unbelieveable!!
Hi everyone. I am Traci, newbie to gardening.....drumroll.....5 months and guess what my passion is?? I have a few brugs and can't wait to get some plumeria, but after looking at the photo's I realize I have much to learn!! Sooo many beauties without names. Why don't the tropicals grow everywhere?? Earth would be much lovelier and smell better.
Off to relax in the photo's and dream. See ya'll soon.
Traci
