Winter's here! But having Spring Memories!!

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Jayne it would have to be a container travelers palm, like mine, only hardy to about zone 10,cannot take a freeze at all!
I started one from seed, about a foot tall now, which is about a year old,so not really a fast grower yet!!!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

I just look it up and the nursery I'd like to order from says it's part of the banana family...go figure!
Over here, it will be container grown.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Jaye they look a lot like white big bird of paradise until they really get big, before you see the big change in the leaves!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Darn..reality sets in!! Now I know I have to say goodbye to that idea. I killed a BOP here! Back to more manageable plants.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Hi everyone!!! Boy....this is a strange conversation...tropicals and snow all in the same sentence! Hiya Traci! Aloha and Yokwe!!! Sorry I'm so slow on that welcome, but my time differences make for a lot of catch-up!

I have a Queen Sago that falls over from the wind a lot...and everytime I think she has had it, she puts out a whole new flush of fronds! I just love her to pieces.

I am just getting into brugs...Thanks to Jennydear!!! But I can tell, it will be an obsession to match all my others...Ixora, orchids, bougies and my darlin hibs...but then, aren't we all a wee bit obsessed?

The Traveler's Palm is related to the banana...and gets mighty large! There are a few here on island that are well over 20 ft. Very cool looking, but also tend to get the BOP brown and scraggily appearance if not tended constantly. I'm still on the lookout for a Mexican BOP, it doesn't seem to get that "chewed" look to it as easily.

Now, I bet you are all getting ready for bed, right? Well, except Jenny...Aloha my friend!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Shari I bet it is tough to try and keep up with the threads with the differences between here and there! More of us should be there, then it wouldn't be so hard to do! :)

South Venice, FL(Zone 9b)

Shari, you are the Queen of Understatement:
"but then, aren't we all a wee bit obsessed?"

I've never seen a Mexican BOP, have to look that up.
Cathy

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Hey, I think we have the best obsession anyone could ever have! ☺

South Venice, FL(Zone 9b)

Yes, it's the best OCD anyone could wish for!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Me obsessed......noooooooo
Ooops, that reminds me...got to check on the repotted bruggies!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

AMEN sista!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Nope, Jaye could NEVER have OCD! LOL

South Venice, FL(Zone 9b)

Jaye, I must have checked the poor little brugs 3 times a day for roots. All that looking worked- they all have roots popping out the bottom now. Not to mention the seed trays I inspect every time I walk past. Something must have sprouted within the last 2 minutes!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Amen Tammy!!

South Venice, FL(Zone 9b)

Good night all, I'll be dreaming of bruggy babies!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

LOL Jaye! Is there a trick to getting brug seeds to germinate???????? Mine have been planted for well over a month now and nuttin! :(

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Cathy...you can never check them enough. Besides the neem, I also talk to the resident frog to stand guard over them.
In fact I have two cuttings in the house that Kel dutifully checks on them! That's family bonding.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Nighty night, and thanks for the pics for me to drool over till Spring! :)

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Tammy and Cathy...nite nite!

Somebody has a birthday! ♥

Gosh just look at this after a few days missing and we have lots of new tropical dreamers! hi everyone so great to meet you ...now if you think it has been confusing so far ...it is almost 11 pm Sunday night, Summertime down Australia way, that means it is only an hour to New year's eve ...sheesh more food ha ha ha ...am I dreaming or was someone frying breakfast cereal (cheerios?) with bacon or some heart stopping stuff like that! Not that I can blame anyone coping with all that snow for needing fuel to keep warm.
The Sago palm is a cycad you know ...the dinosaurs used to chomp on them and the ginkos thousands of years ago. whew the hot weather is finally here although much cooler than usual it is about 78F right now but will sit around the mid 80's in the next few days.Christmas was lovely and cool only about 62F so great!.
After weeks of rain we have actually had two days of sunshine.
There is way too much for me to catch up on so I will say goodnight
how wonderful to see new friends on board ...Angel lovers at that :)
how about that dear little Brug (angel) blooming it's little heart out.
My little ones are full of seed pods ...and if you think I am beside myself with excitement ...you would be right!
dream on dear dreamers and rock on you tropic kids!
2008 is a knocking and about to enter! are you ready?

Chrissy, I am amazed at those seed pods, WOW. I've never seen one so of course when my baby cuttings start blooming next summer (I hope) I will be stalking them for seed pods. Obsessive is good!

Happy New Year to you!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Soooo glad to see you, Chrissy. You have really been missed.

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

Chrissy, nice to meet you. You have such great energy. . .I'm all excited to enter into 2008 by just reading your post. Those seed pods look so plump! I have yet to see a bloom on mine. . .but lots of hope for 2008.

Morning everyone.

South Venice, FL(Zone 9b)

Morning Lana!
I waited for the teleporter to beep last night, but the timer never went off!
Hope all is well in the northern gardens and greenhouses today. Anybody have big project they are trying to accomplish today?
Cathy

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

Hi everyone! Chrissy...meant to say good to see you again on the "other" thread! Wow...love those seed pods! I have never had any on mine!

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes, Misty, Thank You!!!!!

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Chrissy, you have any idea with brug it was pollinated with?

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Chrissy, I have been lurking on your Austrailian thread and loving it. Thanks for the play by play. I have seed pods too and this is my first brug, so it has been very helpful.

Texasgal77, how many candles?

Hey Lana!!

Hi to ya'll too, Marcy and svplantingfool. I am Traci and one of the party crashers. Just can't get enough of these tropics!!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Traci, "crasher"? I don't think so. We all belong to Dave's and have permission to visit any and everywhere you want to. And I do.

South Venice, FL(Zone 9b)

Hop, skip and jump! So many forums, such slow typing fingers I have!
Hi Traci, congrats on the seed pods, you'll have to keep us posted on progress.
Christi, your dreams on the other thread just cracked me up! No matter what you wear, I bet you'll have a great time in Hawaii. You'll be on "island time" and won't have a care in the world.
Cathy

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

58 candles, Traci!! I'm a Grandma with three beautiful granchildren. My youngest is here now spending the day. We just opened my gift from her. I'll spend this evening with my Mom. We are going to celebrate on Tuesday with my oldest granddaughter, born Jan 1st and SIL's is Jan 6th. So we combine all three!
It will be a very nice restful day! The sun is shining! It is beautiful out!

Christi, you will look fine in anything you wear! Just relax and have a good time!
