i am absolutely loving these pictures. Rangoon Creeper is my favorite plant. Because my car was packed with hoyas and avs i couldn't find any room for these giant hanging baskets of Rangoon Creeper at Green Gate Nursery in Seguin, Texas on the south loop 123.
If you don't grow them in a basket you must tie them on something and they are gorgeous but a ton of work tying them to something.
Tropical garden
kimarj, I live only about 10 miles or less and I had no idea. Please help me to know how to have such beautiful tropicals. My fondest dreams.
Christi
wow - I would have tried them a long time ago if I would of had any idea at all you could do that.
Talk about dreaming...LouC I live in Philadelphia Zone6 lol.
My one stick looks the same.
I loved my stick to death :(
You never know how wonderful and hardy some plants really are
Placenciarita, What picture the flower or tree???
It's a DWARF P. PINK. you can'nt see the new green leaves coming on. Will be green and full of leaves in another month. Jerry
While you are traveling to see Seguin Green Gate, I wish you could come down here to Ingleside (Aransas Pass area to see the tropicals at Johnson's Nursery). I don't know whether I posted those but will find them and post them here (I have company from out of town right now).........Johnson's is all tropicals!
You are welcome to stay at my house.....I am only 20 minutes from Johnson's Nursery.
Peggy yours is beautful as well. :)
Kim
I may be in zone 9 but there are no pretty tropicals happening right now as we wait for our first hard hard freeze Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
This thread is just too wonderful!
Placenciarita, we really do have some good nurseries on the coast. Please do dmail me as I love to plant shop.
I just turned on the two electric heaters I bought for the front screened in porch that has poly wrapped around it. You may be hearing me scream when i get my electric bill next month. We are anticipating some very cold freezing days this next week.........
I have done dumber things (LOL). That is a senior moment for sure!!
Where is Red Oak?
I am down in south Texas and yet they are predicting freezing temps starting in the middle of the night Monday night with Tuesday and Wednesday nights freezing, too. We are not used to this much cold as we have already had one hard freeze and weren't even warned of it.
I am too afraid to leave the heaters going at night when I go to bed. They are on now but when I go to sleep I turn them off until I get up in the am.
***edited to say 'WOW' to the hibiscus.

Spent part of today cutting off the EE's and bananas. Looked just like yours. My duranta is covered really good but still not looking very good. Rita, your home is beautiful. Still cannot believe we three are so close and I had not found you before.
Christi
LouC, Her pictures do'nt do justice to the real beauty of her garden of paradise! Jerry
gessiegail, Red Oak is just south of Dallas, north of Waxahachie in northern Ellis County.
Gail, we are probably less than 10 miles apart. I am 14 miles from downtown Dallas and 14 miles from downtown Waxahachie.
Red Oak is about 1/2 between my home and Waxahachie.

placenciarita LOL the pool is my excuse to run around in bathing suit all summer... I get in the pool and cool off when I take a break... Yup sometimes its hard to get the initative to get back to work... In the summer afternoons all my neighbors' kids wanna come swim and hang out...
My new addition this next spring/summer will be extenting the pavers out to the south and building a tiki bar where the smoker is now...that is my Japanese Red Maple in the back.... I have a clematis growing up in ...very compatible together...it reached the outside of the maple this past summer barely...I look forward to it getting to the outside and putting on a show this next year...
Peggy
Peggy , that is realy a big japanese maple, I bet it is beautiful when the clematis are blooming. Remember to take lots of pictures to tide us over next winter. A tiki bar sounds great with a margarita machine. I would never want to leave my backyard. I gave up on getting a pool. We were always in the process of moving. We've been here for over 30 yrs. I have a hammock.
Everyone's pics are fantastic! I have only been out here on the farm for over a year and lots of catching up to do!
That is amazing that you grow tropicals near Dallas!
tex is that picture today? I'm just gonna die if it is...
Rita, we also have always "been gonna" move. 41 years in Feb.
Can't leave my garden now..or my neighbors, or my children, or my grandchildren, or my friends. Has given us enormous pleasure right here all this time. See no reason to start over now.
