Tropical garden
Rj. It is so nice to get a compliment from you. you are right about my plants. I have been reading and looking at your pictures for some time now. Thank you for posting your picture.
You have? my goodness, your garden is superfantabulistic! You have some very cool plants.. LOL, it's never enough...I see new and interesting plants, I start making a mental wish list right off!
I don't grow much fruit Candela, I do have a mango tree, and several Papayas. Propagating some orange trees and plan some lemons and limes at some point. Looks like you have a wonderful tropical garden too!
Rita, I am on dsl so I am personally just fine. However, it is suggested by Admin. that when a thread goes over 175-200 posts that a link be made to #2 for those that are on dial-up. Don't intend to be minding your business but this is way over 300 posts at this point.

Your Papaya trees are in pots and producing fruit? that's pretty good! Were they always in pots? I noticed that Papayas this time of year aren't so sweet..
Where is Red Oak TX? I don't see a zone on your posts.
That is what i've been thinking too. Jerry
Texasbigleaves,
Shoot, I thought those 2 large variegated plants were variegated crinums. I was excited because I have a baby variegated crinum and I was hoping as they matured they would look like the plants in you pictures.
I am sure my crinum will still turn out nice.
Great pictures!

Oh boy, Randy. May have found the perfect way to lure you to my house. Red Oak is less than 10 miles south of me. Makes them about 24 miles south of downtown Dallas. To my way of thinkin', we are next-door neighbors.

In order to accomodate those on dial-up, follow our link to the next thread.

I had 6 hours of below freezing weather, ouch! But many had it worse than me.
I covered up my hard to replace and more expensive things, put my potted plants in the garage and took some cuttings.
I am glad I took the precautions that I did because I was not able to cover as much as I would have liked and parts of my yard look really sad. I think most of it will grow back in spring, but only time will tell.
I will try to post pictures later.

Here are a few links to my online albums and you can see the difference.
I only had a few minutes to take pictures. Later I will try and get some better photos.
While taking the pictures I removed my frost blankets and was very sad to see that it appears they didn't help protect my plants at all.
So it looks like I may have lost ,more plants than I originally thought.
I have been told it takes 10 days to know the real damage so I will let you all know the real damage in 10 days.

i am so sad for you! This was really a blow to the state of Florida. We were really lucky in that it only lasted for a few hours as opposed to what they predictted of 8 hours of below freezing.

Ariel~ It got us hard- huh??! My yard was much worse than I thought it would get. I certainly don't need to be getting anything from you right now! Let's wait a bit and see how everything turns out, then we'll talk again. Maybe by then I will have a few plants accumulated and we can both share.
Hi All, I really had fun sharing my pictures. I am very sad to say that the winter has claimed two victems already. My beautiful Lauterbachiana is mush, and my alocasia Lutea had surgery to remove her rotten parts, then sprinkled with cinnamon and is now in the intensive care hope she makes it.
Rita, inquiring minds want to know...sprinkled with cinnamon?
Christi
I was told to put cinnamon on my african violets which had some rust on them........??????????
Excerpted from Brian Williams (sticky) on overingwintering elephant ears.
I clean cut the tuber and remove infected parts rinse with diluted clorox, then dry. I was supposed to place sulfur on it but didn't have any. They recommended cinnamon as a substitue. I had lots of it, so that is my story. hope that it works.
The one tropical I do have in multiples is EE. I'm so glad to know that. I have been cutting off the frozen areas and just leaving them to whatever. Sure takes them a long time to come back in the spring.
Sorry to say the cinnamon did'nt work or help on my Robusta. It's gone to EE heaven,i'am so sad. Come on SPRING TIME !!!!! Jerry
