We can't leave ours out even in zone 9 unless we want to start from the root system up in the spring. Mine are on the front porch with poly wrapped around the entire porch and a heater on.
Tropical garden
Tropicman in the Tropical Gardening Forum is in Wichita Ka. You will not believe what he goes through. Man, that is really wanting tropicals. Very interesting reading.
gessiegail, do you have any tropical fruit trees, I thought oranges and grapefruit would grow very well in zone 9, I have a orange ,lime, grapefruit ,papaya and guava, that is doing well so far , but I have to put them in the greenhouse, guava was fun, my grandkids took turns getting the ripe fruits. one pineapple
And beautiful brush it is LOL!!
Hello everyone... :*)
I am trying to get RJ to come down and tell me what and where to put plants in the ground. Have only been out on the farm for 11/2 years and still deciding what i want the most. I did plant a fig tree on the north of the house when I first moved! RJ is great with vines which I do love!
We can grow a great tangerine tree in our environment but the others really require a greenhouse and i am too old for that much work!
I am loving everyone's pictures of their love for tropical plants!
Randy, you are just going to have to quit work and go on a garden tour. Sooo in demand. Having been to his garden I can testify he has the magic touch.

Mine too... I am still working on the Latin names... very hard to learn but very rewarding.
Ya'll are gonna' make me feel bad. The truth of it is I'm just too lazy to go to all that work. However, in the future, every new plant introduced into my garden will be labeled from the beginning and then I will have no choice but to use my brain. Really appreciate those of you who know what you have and where to put it in the garden.

LouC - you are getting there - it will happen with time. One day a new gardner will be in your your garden and it will just start coming to you - just like it was second nature.
Happy New Year To All !!!!
Kim
to you also, Kim!
WOW, Jerry I do not remember seeing those bloom before, very nice. I have to go check my greenhouses for damages from last nights' fireworks.
Happy New Year!!!!!!!
I am feeling sorry for myself that i don't have a greenhouse *lol*
Whats the name of that variegated leaf plant above if ya don't mind? I love the look.
Right? Just stunning....
IT is supposed to be a " philodendron giganteum variegata " but?????? BUT for the PRICE it better be! It's still small. My green giga. has leaves about 2ft. by 3ft.long. Hope this one gets that big! I like leaves B- I- G, green or VARIEGATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just ask Placenciarita. Jerry
MitchF, I found the info on that garden club it is the OVILLA GARDEN CLUB. Placenciarita and i went on their Garden Tour 2007. Great gardens, one after another. We had a great time! Jerry
I know a few of them - they used to have a plant swap at the home with all the Iris and crinums. There is a home seller there - Sylvia Gorden I think who used to trade me a lot of plants up to a year or two ago. Great lady and nice gardens. They were both on the tour. Went to their plant swaps several years in a row. The home with all the roses - and creek... really nice place - well they had me come and clean out half of those roses just a year ago, took them all to the school and they are doing great - killed my arms with all the thorns. I tried to join at one point but they would have nothing with it - I am just outside Ovilia and they dont want anyone outside Ovilia.
I am all electric and have 2 electric going on the front porch right now for the freeze tonight and tomorrow night! I have a small house and my electricity in the winter (zone 9) runs about 240.00 a month and much more in the summer for air conditioning.
I have never received any bill for 36.00 (lol)
WOW - huge... just huge... WOW>....
