Best/Worse and What did I learn today-a visit with friends
ooo pecan bars.
how do yu make those?
im going to get my mind off things and do some baking.
im going to make a caramel sponge.
the filling is a can of sweetened condensed milk that you boil in the can for 4 hours and it makes caramel, its better than store bought, and then you whip cream and mix them both together when they are chilled and fill your sponge! cool huh?
can i have the recepe for pecan bars please!
I would like it too, my grandma used to have one but my mom has it and I have no access to it anymore.
I have a great recipe for almond brittle that tastes like almond rocca minus the chocholate. I am in a fight with Greg and feel like making stuff but I know I will eat it and have not been eating good like I was before and I can not gain any more weight or I will be very unhappy if I go back into my 14's.
Man I so want to drink tonight. It iritates me that He is an alcoholic so I can not drink ever if he is around.
Shar I am so glad you will be with your family for Christmas.
Funny how, no matter where we all are we are all so crazy busy till the last minute
Morning all.
Great to read about Betty's adventures..I laughed when mentioned the three gentlement in the library at the computers.
Not a bad place to meet someone..better than a bar LOL. I hope things settle down for you and Aunt Muriel..and that you all have good health insurance. Is Aunt Muriel ok now? The weather has warmed a bit ..it is calling for rain and 7c today...light snow and 0c tomorrow.
I got some cooking done yesterday..more to do today. I made a big pot of chilli for tonight when the Montreal family arrive. Baked brownies, cookies, and a date loaf from a mix. Big pot of chicken veg soup for lunch tomorrow with Grilled cheese sandwiches for when the London ON family arrive..I am going to haul out the old machine that belonged to my mother to cook the grilled cheese...and then my brother will arrive from Barbados. Then tomorrow evening all my kids and grandkids will arrive and the party is on..21 of us! Loads of food of all kinds..everyone brings an appetizer type thing..we eat drink and laugh and open presents.
You are all so talented and busy busy...all your recipes sound great..I am not much of a baker..my sister brings fancy baked things..but I can makes great drinks! LOL I was a bartender.
Hug your loved ones and have a wonderful day!
Cheers,
Carol
Liz,
Those fortune cookie favors are so cute! How big a circle do you cut from the fabric? How big are they-finished? Is it a single layer of fabric, or do you line them? Do I see some beads around the edge? What are they used for? Tree ornaments? Thanks....
helln,
I just noticed you live in Rosamond! Is the Rosamond Brugmansia named after your town?
Do you have any--Are you a gardener?
I am off to NJ this afternoon. Probably won't be back until Thursday. It is so foggy here today. Real soup! The drive is 3 hours if there are no delays. More if there is any congestion or bad weather. Once you are on the NJ Turnpike--you are trapped! Nowhere to escape. I suppose the locals might know of side roads, but I do not.
I sure will have a lot to catch up on when I get home!
You all be good and enjoy all the Christmas gluttony!!!!....:O)

Here's a brand new Poinsettia that we saw at the Conservatory last weekend. If you want to see all the pictures, go to the Mid Atlantic Forum and check out the Post from the Rawlings Conservatory Holiday Displays. There re a lot of pictures there.......
This Conservatory is one of only THREE remaining, active ones in the USA!!!
Here are the 5 of us! We started out with 12, then it went down to 7 and then, because they were predicting flurries, only 4 showed up--besides ME.
This picture is taken by the Poinsettia Tree in the Orchid Room.

Good Morning everyone. I am feeling much better today. Got my nails done yesterday afternoon then had to hit Target for one last gift (UGH!). Then came home and made sugar cookies with DD and her friend. I took it easy the whole time and actually felt like my old self. I actually stayed up past midnight watching TV. The bad news: DH now has a sore throat! He told me this last night as he was getting into bed so I made him go back down stairs to get an Airborne and a Ziacam nose thingy. I made him do it all again this morning so hopefully if he does have a cold coming on, it will be short.
I have more baking to do today although I really don't want to. (bah humbug). I've also got to get stuff ready to go to my parents tomorrow and then from there to my SIL in Raleigh Xmas day. When we come back on Wed, we have to unpack then repack for the cabin. Again, not something I look forward to. Murphy goes to the kennel tomorrow so no doggie for a week. He will get his stocking when we get back from the cabin.
Laura, I wanted to tell you that I have had general anxiety disorder my whole life but didn't realize that's what it was until 8 yrs ago. I thought I was going crazy but realized after reading on the internet and different books that almost 50% of people have some form of it. I take meds for mine and although my first thought when starting them 8 yrs ago was 'I don't want to take drugs', I wouldn't give them up for anything (unless there was a guarentee that I would NEVER feel that way again!). Anyway, you are not alone. I have felt a few "twinges" the past couple of days with being sick and the holidays but I just keep telling myself that I'll be ok. The weather plays a big part in it too. It's been cloudy and dreary here so I know my mind and body loves sun light.
Well, all....I'm off to shower and get the oven going. I'll chat back later.
Jeannine
Dawn can you post your almond brittle recipe?
hi gita, got myself in a trouble of crafts right now so i'll post later on
i use 3mm thick foam sheet in black
i use a roll of masking tape for my circle
then i cut the circle
cut a circle of fabric
then glue the fabric to the foam i use no sew fabric glue
at this point i have several cut out
let them dry,
then i add the rope
put the fabric glue then the rope i use straight pins to hold it in place i insert the pin into the rope through the foam let that dry
then i fold it like a taco in the middle of the fold i push it in then grab the two bottom peices you'll see it start to takeshape i use nail glue to hold the two bottom peices to geather then sew the top with a hanger in it but i should of bought one already made im guessing this is how its done good luck if you have any more questions feel free to ask
OMG...just posted again and think as Liz post came through I lost mine...
Ok..will make it short as many are waiting for the computer..spent part of yesterday and today and now have 11 lovely outfits to wear this summer..so comfy and colorful..not normally me..but they appeal to me at this time in my life..
Mom and Aunt Muriel went out shopping, Jim looking after the dogs so thought I'd spend the day out...was able to find the telephone numbers for both Barb and LIz...called but no answer so either they are enjoying the day or they are back home to be with family over the Christmas season..doubt it though so will try and call either tonight or tomorrow..know both couples enjoy golfing so that's probably it...
Nice here today..sunny and warm..picked up fresh fruit..strawberries so tasty..corn on the cob so will enjoy supper for sure...then perhaps a ride to the ocean..5 minutes away, about the same to the causeway...that will put in my evening...
many sitting waiting for computers today..guess all are trying to reach family for Christmas so will give my computer up..have 45 minutes but I can post later....
Do enjoy your baking/crafting/your company and those not feeling up to par..please get well soon...
Just a quick note..a Jewish man tried to pick me up at the flea market..a few years younger would have been better..wanted to take me golfing..lol...
hey jeanine thanks for sharing that. its not easy telling people stuff like that as they dont understand it or think your just a complainer but here i dont feel that. its true that its effected by the weather for sure! the doctor told me as the barametric pressure changes it effects people differently from migraines to depression. he wanted to put me on medication some time back but because it was transient ( probably didnt spell that right) it would mean i was medicated when i didnt need it. anyhoo, feeling better today and i thank you all for your understanding and support. your wonderful!
now i had a thought, heres betty on this pilgrimage almost and here she goes into a place of learning and wisdom and who should she meet? three wise men! well, they must be if they hang out at the library!! betty's living the xmas story!!!! goodness what will ne next!! hahhahahahahh
well its xmas eve here and we are all geared up. I made a chocolate ripple xmas tree for a desert and tiramasu and a caramel sponge!
Do you make chocolate ripple logs there? they are a chocolate flavoured cookie wedged together with cream. you can decorate them how you like. well i decided i would make mine into a xmas tree so i placed some cream on a plate and started with 6 cookies in a round shape then cream then cookies and repeat. i broke two cookies in halp to make the point. once that was done you then cover the outside with cream. i then piped cream flowers all over it and i will decorate it later with colourful candy and such and put a star on top. I'll take a photo.
As for the sponge, the filling is made of sweetened condensed milk boiled in the tin for 4 hours to make caramel, a bottle of cream whipped til firm and then beat in the caramel and fill the sponge!! mmmmmm if i could get my hands on some butter fingers, I would crumble them on top!
anyway, all is well, you are some of the best things in my life! you keep me sane, balanced, loved and feeling worthwhile. i couldnt ask for better friends. thankyou for all you give me both in the post and from your hearts.
I wish you all the happiness and health and hope your christmas is a good one.
hugs from tomorrow land.
xx
Yummy Laura! I'm full and it's not even Xmas Eve here yet!!
Well, I am finally finished baking!!!! DD and I made pecan sandies which are rolled shortbread "finger" looking cookies with chopped pecan and rolled in 10X sugar when they come out of the oven. Then we baked tollhouse cookies - the ones already made in the plastic tub (yes, I'm lazy!); pecan pralines (for you Southerners that's "pee-cahn"); and cannoli filling. I'm done!!
Now I'm trying to print a stupid (and for some reason difficult) 2" x 2" picture of Murphy for a cute frame I got DH. I'm on my last piece of photo paper so if this doesn't work, I'll stick a picture of Calvin & Hobbes in it!
Well,
I am running off now to do more laundry (cause "OMG! Mom I don't have ANY clothes!"). Yeah, well if you didn't wear 20 pieces each day, you might have some! ARGH!!!!!
Merry Christmas!!! :)
Love you guys!!!
Chat tomorrow for a bit!
Jeannine

xx
laura, merry christmas hope your hollidays are filled with love and joy
Liz- Your 3 would fit right in with my husbands five siblings! I love them dearly but oh can it get annoying! One sister always has to one up everyone else, she's seen it, done it and knows everything! Then theres the brother that thinks the entire world is out to #$%^^ him and has and ego the size of Texas. Other brother can't figure out how to date a normal woman, always goes for the controlling ones that have a million issues (just like thier deceased mother.) Well that's enough for now, I do love them dearly but they can drive any sane person nuts! Did I tell you they will all be at our house for Christmas! :0)
Wonder- Your gifts sound wonderful! Have a lovely day.
Well off to see my folks and go to our friends for dinner. Have a wonderful day my friends! Rachel
Early Merry Christmas all...you are all so precious to me..lordy I'd love to be closer to give you all a hug...
Things are settling in, we're all in our own routine..mom and Jim went out at 8:30 this morning for grocery shopping and to find out why the telephone wasn't connected as per their ok on Friday then they are off to Lowes (tools for Jim) and then grocery shopping...
Of course Mom and Jim would not accept any $$$ from me towards groceries so I decided I would go out and purchase more gifts..on the way down Aunt Muriel (mom's sister) bought a train which has fibreoptics and mom is drulling over it, so I left at 10am and drove around until I found a cracker barrel which had one..so you know how many highway miles I've covered..got it wrapped, hidden in the van...In my travels I found an IHOP..absolutely love their strawberry pancakes..so walked in, asked for a table for 1, while of course every booth contained families, husbands/wives, children, laughing, all geared for Christmas and I fought off the tears, well not quite, used serviette off/on to wipe the tears..no matter how happy you are (or think you are) there is nothing worse than sitting in a restaurant alone..brings the focus on yourself showing you how it's just 'you' brings a sadness right along with it..gee just sitting here typing it brings tears to my eyes, so will have to get busy and fight the feeling...
Liz..omg look at those sleighs..now when I get home will have to look closely at those tinman pieces so I can put one in my garden...
Next year Liz, we should have a double family Christmas..can you just imagine the going ons...lol...
Laura....you are sleeping soundly I'm sure...Christmas behind you and now to get on with the start of a new year..which of course will be a good one for you and yours...looking forward to photo's...
Have had my camera out but haven't taken many photo's as yet..will have to do so or I'll be back with nothing to post...
Shar..a jig saw..wow..now we look forward to seeing some projects..we can wait till after New Years of course...
Jeannine..guess your not feeling up to par put you behind but am sure that by tonight everything will be done, including the laundry...does Murphy enjoy the tree? Bet you are all packed up for your trip to the cabin...oh what fun..
Rachel, guess the troops arrive tomorrow..oh what fun..just taking everything all in...there is a restaurant down the street that is open tomorrow for turkey dinner..thought we might enjoy going there? hmmm but can't because someone would have to be excluded because who would sit with the dogs...SF is probably worse than mom..at least I could con her into going into the restaurant for quick bite while the pets stayed in the van...so, guess we're all cooking..
Cat...did you get to do the almond brittle..
Gita..what a beautiful photo..went to Disney years ago, think it was New Years' Day and how I enjoyed similar trees, all made with poinsietta's..what a backdrop for a photo...thanks for sharring...
Carol, bet most of the family has arrived by now...nice to have snow for Christmas but sure hope that no storms brew up and travellilng is great for everyone..nothing worse than worrying over the weather when family is travelling...
Judy, it's almost time to put your bags into the vehicle..lol...bet you are some excited..but Santa has to come first doesn't he..keep trying to figure out things so that I can visit awhile with you and family..am sure we'll manage...
Susan..hope you are feeling better...your yard was lovely, perhaps a table outside to enjoy christmas dinner...wouldn't that be wonderful?
Dawn, hope you and Greg enjoy your Christmas Day...
Jillian, bet the children can't contain themselves..remember just how exciting it was..the anticipation of what was to come?
Trop..the best to you and yours this Christmas Day...
Well everyone, I'm off..won't get to gab with you tomorrow..
Merry Christmas To My DG women Friends
If I were old Santa, you know what I'd do
I'd dump silly gifts that are given to you
And deliver some things just inside your front door
Things you have lost, but treasured before.
I'd give you back all your maidenly vigour,
And to go along with it, a neat tiny figure.
Then restore the old colour that once graced your hair
Before rinses and bleaches took residence there.
I'd bring back the shape with which you were gifted
So things now suspended need not be uplifted.
I'd draw in your tummy and smooth down your back
Till you'd be a dream in those tight fitting slacks..
I'd remove all your wrinkles and leave only one chin
So you wouldn't spend hours rubbing grease on your skin
You'd never have flushes or queer dizzy spells
And you wouldn't hear noises like ringing of bells.
No sore aching feet and no corns on your toes
No searching for spectacles when they're right on your nose.
Not a shot would you take in your arm, hip or fanny
From a doctor who thinks you're a nervous old granny.
You'd never have a headache, so no pills would you take.
And no heating pad needed since your muscles won't ache.
Yes, if I were Santa, you'd never look stupid
You'd be a cute little chick with the romance of a cupid.
I'd give a lift to your heart when those wolves start to whistle
And the joys of your heart would be light as a thistle.
But alas! I'm not Santa.I'm simply just me
The matronest of matrons you ever did see.
I wish I could tell you all the symptoms I've got
But I'm due at my doctor's for an estrogen shot.
Even though we've grown older this wish is sincere
Merry Christmas to you and a Happy New Year.
Love you all!!!
Good Christmas Eve!
...Wow, I am done! Can't believe it, but everything is done. Cleaned the craft table this morning, All is wrapped placed under the tree, even the last stictch of clothing washed -folded and put away! ...Can't wait to hear all the stories. Now for us with "special" guests,LOL take a deep breath and just think of the stories you'll tell.
I have three of Chattiets people coming, hahha, it's a battle of who can get the most words in loudest of tones. Oh gosh i think I'll take the asprin now! But just love the daylights out of them.
Can't wait to give MIL her gift, will definatley take a photo. She is very very finicky with gifts, but I think she will LOVE this one...LOL if not I'll keep it and give her 20 bucks. (just joshin)

lovely sunny day today, quiet morning which is good and everyone arrives later this arvo for dinner.
Bought my DH guitar hero 3 for xmas! hahhaha men are such big kids, he is playing it now! heheheh
I forgot to tell you that i got wind chimes from my oldest DD too, they are devine, its hard to explain but it is a brass gong about the size of a dinner plate and it hangs from peices of wood that catch in the breeze and makes the most serene sound! beautiful. i also got a hershies bar! yup, a cookies and cream. we are just starting to get things from america here.
anyway, you are all so excited and ready for fun.
merry xmas
xx
Happy Christmas Eve everyone. I'm sure you are all knee deep in the dinners and get togethers of the evening. hope everyone has a wonderful evening and a glorious day tomorrow.
Thanks, Cat, Laura, Seed and everybody....you all have a good Christmas too.
BETTY SO HAPPY YOU ARE ENJOYING YOUR TRIP NOW AND GET A BREAK FROM GABAGAIL.
Merry Christmas Eve girls and any guys too that may lurk here.
Best was just getting everything but a few things that I will need to prepare tomorrow done and having a good day w/Greg.
Worst was that I ate bad today and will tomorrow.
evening all,
just wanted to wish everyone a very merry christmas, hope it is filled with joy and good times for those traveling may you have a safe trip
best got money so now to decide what to spend it on
worst: granny is having some trouble and wont tell anyone she got up off the couch and there was a big wet spot felt bad, mom distracted her so sis and i could get it cleaned up
she is cluless on the matter poor thing.
learned; we can get along finally no arguing
Good morning everyone and I hope your day is full of much love.
Liz I'm glad you could give her the dignity of cleaning it up without her knowing about it. Getting old and out bodies starting to fail is something nobody really wants to face. And we definately don't want others knowing until they absolutely have to.
Merry Christmas everyone
merry xmas all!
Oh....I had a Merry Christmas call from Betty this morning.......I was so excited!!! She was on her way to the beach, ALONE......and the weather there was great. She sounded rested and wonderful, and she really brightened up my day.
I hope this day has been wonderful for all of you, and I hope that you are surrounded by all the love of all your family.
Merry Christmas.

Good Morning!
...Wow, I received a call from Betty too...She hadn't been to the Ocean yet, so I am glad she got to go. I was really bummed that i wasn't able to find my numbers...But we were all in her thoughts on Christmas day....and She said Hello to all!
It's been a really busy and fun last couple of days. Received some lovely gifts...Our family had a wonderful Christmas eve. Went to visit some cousins and when we returned, Jacob had the tree, disassembled and dragged to curb...even vaccumed! So today just add last minute packing and away we go first thing tomorrow! Whew we need a good rest.
So, I wanted to show you my special Baby Santa Sleigh...
Sounds as if it was a wonderful Christmas for all. Lots of fun great gifts and of course good food.
We were busy here. I ended up getting sick. Was fine 3 hours later. We all ate the same food don't know what went wrong. So feel I spoiled the day for the rest.
Was suppose to work to day but that got changed to friday when the truck will come in because of the holiday. That's fine with me. Will relax, get the dishes caught up and throw in wood. Shovel snow. We are getting more snow and my sister and neice left a bit ago to head home to indiana. Will worry until she calls me they got home. Didn't get many pictures. Batteries needed charging. I got sick. But did get a few and haven't downloaded them yet.
DH got me a new puter chair. What a surprise. But I think he thought of it from having set on it a few times! LOL
Typing makes me feel a bit dizzy. So will go for now. This is just so weird.
Vicki
Maybe you have a touch of one of the "bugs" that are going around Vicki. Take it easy today. Hope you feel better soon.
The sleigh turned out great seedtosser. Are you in the picture????
Glad to hear that everyone had an enjoyable holiday! Went well here as well, no squabble, had to bite my tongue and few times and redirect a few conversations before they got ugly (between BIL and SIL) but all in all everyone enjoyed themselves. I slept like a log last night!
Betty called me yesterday morning. It was wonderful to hear from her, we only got to chat for a few minutes but it absolutely made my day!
Well off to do some shopping now. Chat later. Hugs till then. Rachel
