Best/Worse and What did I learn today-a visit with friends

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Poor guy! It's a very cool picture though!

(Cathy), MO

I went shopping at lunch today for the little guys and was surprised how much I'd forgotten! I couldn't get this for that reason, or that for this reason, etc! This might be a little more challenging than I thought! :-)
I'm also trying to think of things I can put in big stockings to help out a little. The poor little guys don't have much. So i thought, I could get some socks! But, guess what, you have to know shoe sizes!!! And it's been so long I was afraid to guess. So I called my daughter from inside the store and asked for her opinion.
Anyone got any ideas of helpful small things I can put in their stockings, that won't step on Mom's toes?

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Cat, my grandson is 3 and 1/2. He likes little things like small flashlights, loves socks and his shoe size is a 9, so maybe that gives you a clue. He also likes gloves, calls them his "work gloves". and he likes any kind of hat, pretends he is a policeman or a fireman, depending on the color. He loves crayons and sticker books. Most of these things can be found at a dollar store. he also likes little things that go together, like packages of little plastic animals. It doesn't take much to entertain him, but he goes through sticker books and colorbooks like crazy. He likes little boy belts, sunglasses, key chains with funny things on them. I had not bought for a little boy in a long time, but these things are among his favorites to pick out for himself.

also, he is about normal size so at three and a half he is now entering the size 4 stage. I hope this helps you.

(Cathy), MO

That helps alot! Thanks so much. 3 year olds don't put things in their mouths too bad do they? I am a bit leery of getting anything too small for the 2 year old.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Ethan has never been one to put anything in his mouth....not sure about others, but he has not had that problem. so I don't know how to answer this one......he also likes matchbox cars, but that wouldn't be very useful, I guess. And I was going to tell you he weighs 35 pounds, thought that might help with the sizing. another thing he likes is night lights...and books of all kinds, also videos but that would depend on whether or not there was something to play them on. You can get kids videos pretty cheap at walmart....the cartoons. He likes toy watches, anything that resembles grown up guys. will tell you more as I think of it.

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Laura, if it was winter down there, I'd say he was in a snow storm but I'm gathering that a huge wave hit him!!! Very cool pic!

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

I thought it looked like a snow storm too. What a fun photo.

(Cathy), MO

Thanks for the help. Time to go shopping again!

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

hahahah yeah, dont know if you know but every seventh wave is a big one!
a minute before it was blue skies and smiles and then bang!
i could stop laughing though.
he was good about it and didnt worry. he was on his motorbike and dried off quick enough.

too funny.

sharron, i was about to post the shells to gunnar and then thought i might take a drive down to phillip island and see what i can find down there. it would be soooo coool if i could find him a sharks tooth in the stores down there. they have all sorts of wonderful things. so, another few days before i send it,

haver a great day everyone!

p.s leggo is good for the youngens and you can get the big blocks for em. not sure about fitting them into a stocking tho! lol

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Thanks, Laura, Gunnar will appreciate all of it I am sure.

Yep, Cat...Laura is right, leggos are a good idea for all the little guys.

Morning all,
I just talked to my BIL. He and my sis drove up from Myrtle Beach and arrived home yesterday.
He said the roads were fine..so that is nice to know Betty won't be driving in any storms.
I can't wait to hear that Betty arrived safely..but I am sure she will have tales to tell.

Liz..wow ..that does add up..but the light boxes Betty made are pretty aren't they...

I did a big grocery shopping yesterday to get the non persishables for Christmas.
It was fun getting all the special items.
I bought a frozen stuffed Butterball turkey that you cook from the frozen state.

Have a good day all.
Cheers,
Carol

Pacifica, CA

Glad to hear that the road is clear for Betty and crew! I'm sure she will have tales to tell. Speaking of tales here is what I found on freecycle.com yesterday (see attached pic!) Early christmas present for my hubby!

Hi y'all
Well, you'll never believe this. Betty just called, and I've been so sick I had to miss getting to meet her. :-( She asked me to post for her, though, and to say she needed Angel wings? She didn't explain, so I'm figuring someone will understand this. I hope I got it right.

Hope everyone has a merry Christmas.
~Susan

Okay y'all ... she made it!!! She surprised me and just left!! Oh, she's just the sweetest thing! I only wish I had felt better, and we had had more time to visit. I guess I'm still a bit dazed that I actually got to meet her. :-)

Concerning the trip ... she says she deserves angel wings for everything. I'll let y'all read between the lines. LOL ;)

Y'all have a blessed day.
~Susan

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

So glad to hear that Betty is doing well! How wonderful that you got to meet each other. Feel better soon! Rachel

Thanks Rachel. :) Yes, it certainly was a real treat.

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

feel better soon.

not sure what the angel wings thing means...

liz you must post a pic of your bracelts!

now there is another one i make that i will tell you how and its easier!

you thread aboutmaybe a foot of beading tiger tail with your selection of beads. again the length must equal the size of your wrist not including the clasp x 2!
you then fold it in half. then you thread the fine wire with seed beads in the theme of your colour and you begine to wrap it around. say run it upabout three or four beads, then wrap it around in between the beads then up a few more and wrap again. you are catching them all together with the beaded wire. at the end just close off by wrapping as you have done before and attach the clasp in the same way as the knitted ones.

this makes a thinner bracelet and it looks great! you can use wire right through if you like.
its so quick, easy and effective.

enjoy.

Wonder, she said she needed angel wings for putting up with everything during the trip. grin At first, I thought she was talking about someone here at DG ... but when she got to my house, she explained that she was earning angel wings for what she was going through. I'll let her tell you all about it when she gets home. :)

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

As I recall from previous posts Betty is driving her mom, aunt and thier two small dogs to Florida. That would be the reason for earning her angel wings! Can you imagine two little ladies telling you how to drive with two little dogs yapping in the background!! I also recall Betty saying that both her mom and aunt are very "chatty!" I bet she's not getting a moments peace! Bless you our dear Betty, if I where you I would skip over the angel wings and go straight for sainthood!

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Dear St. Betty......

We are all cheering for you. If I knew where you were right about now I would send those little ear thingies that keep you from hearing loud noises!!!!!

Rachel and I just nominated you for Sainthood!

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

I second it, all in favor say I.

(Cathy), MO

Aye! LOL. Sounds like she's ahving an eventful trip!

Liz the pattern came today! Thanks so much. It doesn't look hard at all. I love things that it looks like even "I" can do!!

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

I am so glad she made it down there! The analogy of the mom & aunt AND 2 yapping dogs just did me in! I can ONLY imagine the posts Betty is thinking up in her head to share!!!

IO1 - thanks for letting us know how she was doing. I hope you feel better soon!

I'm enjoying my time off. Kids are out of school starting today and they are already saying "I'm bored"! UGH! DH worked today only so back to tag teaming tomorrow! We've told the kids they have to get up tomorrow morning with the dog so we can sleep in. Speaking of the dog; he went to the groomers for the first time today and he is pooped! The groomer called and said he did not like the big dryer they use to blow the water off him. He got tangled in the hoses trying to get away from it! She had to dry him wil a hand held dryer. He's nice an fluffy and smells like vanilla. See below for the pooped doggie!

Night all!

GG- What a pretty puppy!

Well yesterday I found something fabulous on freecycle.com a 7 week old Queensland Red Heeler puppy! Brought him home and gave hubby a surprise early christmas present. He is settling in nicley with the rest of our four pawed fur babies. Attached is a picture of Scrappy and his big sister Cinder (she is 11, I got her when she was a little puppy also.)

Rachie- My goodness what an adorable little pup. Has Dh given him a name yet? Is this your first puppy? Wishing you much happiness with the lil ball of fur...smiling happily for you.

Cat-so glad you got the tree pattern, can't wait to see your tree of cards!

Dawn...Good to see you, so happy you are feeling better. Hope you are having some good days.

Well, I have been crazy busy!! Was able to get most of my shopping done, so that was excellent.
made a really cool ornament for my manager...She flipped over it! So I was very happy. (pic of the night) Tonight working on MIL sleigh, had a good time doing that-haha, I think Ive podged a quilt!
While I was working on that, a friend I grew up with called me! So we were in eachothers weddings, and then somehow lost touch...18 years, DH found a couple of very old phone books, we sent cards to names of past. In her card I added my phone #. Turns out she has been trying to find me for the last 6 months!! So we talked for several hours, cought up on things...and get this, her father live exactly 10 minutes from me!! Unbeleivable, but very true, what an incredible Christmas gift. I am still realling over it.

...My I am tired, it's late...tomorrow last day at work til 1-7-08, how weird is that, LOL, but yippeeee.

So...you probably are all snug and sound asleep, Off I go to my pillow. See you tomorrow.

Isn't that great news! Thanks 101. What state are you in?
I am happy to know our "Fearless Leader" with the angel wings is ok.
Betty will probably have had to stop a lot along the way. I wonder if the two dogs get along alright. Can you imagine???

Liz..pretty bracelets....where do you find the time?

Sharran..are you adjusting a bit to being on your own?

Rachie..cute pic of the two dogs..was hubby pleased and surprised? Is Scrappy a fiesty puppy?

GG.. your dog is beautiful with his new fluffy coat..all pretty for Christmas...just don't let him out in the dirt now. My neighbour's dog was just freshly washed once and came outside and promptly rolled around in the dirt under my apple trees.

Laura..Have a wonderful three weeks off.

I put a fire on in the rec room yesterday and did laundry and puttered a bit and read a book..set in South Carolina..Pawley's Island by Dorothea Benton Frank. I like reading stories set in SC as I visit there every year.

Judy..wonderful that you found your friend again..Lots of catching up to do I'm sure. Love to see the ornament you made for you manager.

Have a great day all!

waving at betty where ever you are...

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Hi all, gotta busy day but wanted to say hello.

(Cathy), MO

Me too. Hi everyone. I'm at work but will check in when I get the chance

Victoria Harbour, ON

HI/HI/HI...OMG I'm just so excited, came out for coffee and saw this library which is only about 4 blocks from Mom's and they graciously gave me a visitor's card to use..so here I am...

I will come back (when coffee doesn't get cold for the old gals) lol and sit and chat...lucky me, you just can't imagine what it's like not having you my dear DG friends to chat with..I was just SOOO lonesome..and here I am, with all of you back in my heart and folds to enjoy...

Saw that Susan (101) posted for me..she's such a lovely lady, so did want to spend some time with her but she wasn't feeling the best..just hated to intrude so I told her I'd try and drop in on the way home..but with SF driving along with me and not sure what time I'd be passing through thought I'd get instructions from 4 different garages and find her..which I did..she lives in such a pretty little community...lovely house, decorated for Christmas but not feeling up to par so I did not want to overstay and besides Chatty Cathy was in the vehicle...

Now for my wings..I left home at 8:30 am on Monday morning and Aunt Muriel chatted and is still chatting along, when you leave a room to get some quiet and relaxation she follows you to that room..now I don't mean she just talks and takes a breath, she talks non stop..you know how you talk using your voice but your mind is gabbing within you, well not her she just keep on talking..by last night I wanted to scream and dear friends I'm wonderful with older people and I have patience..they say as much patience as a Saint..but lordy, I NEED Quiet..so how wonderful to be sitting in this library, so quiet...yep..think I'll be spending lots/lots of time here...and then there is mom who sat in the back seat (I drove all the way) who wants to stop at every Crackel Barrel and I'm sure she has spend about $1,000. on the trip down..I decorated her place and we have porcelain Christmas carollers, ceramic santa's, quilts, nativity scene (6 pieces) train set, you name it she had to have it..dogs were good...now when mom started to talk I'd have Aunt Muriel gabbing in the front and mom and the back both talking as though no one else was speaking...I'd be thinking..focus Betty/focus...so if anyone this week is looking for someone who deserves angel wings...its ME....lol...

Weather here is wonderful..will be high 70's and Sunday it should be in the 80's...once I'm back the gals are going out grocery shopping and it will be me and the dogs and I'll sit and enjoy an hour of peace....

I'll either be back later or early tomorrow morning to chat...didn't even have to find a trucker..but you know what, the other day I was chatting with one and mom dropped by and said they were ready to leave so I almost got to post...lol..

Now for the more serious part...I called home last night to check on things and Cathy said that a call had come in and they were thinking it was me who answered, went on the say "Herbie" passed away...now I really was fretty..the only "Herbie" I know is our dearly loved Herbie and I was near tears and upset most of the evening...now I glanced at the Prayer Threads and didn't see anything so perhaps she didn't hear right...I have 2 friends called Harvey so perhaps she misunderstood...so off I go for a quick peak to see if there is anything on the prayers line and if not, I'll feel better and will call friends from home to see if they know who it might be...

Guess you are all getting organized for Christmas..I was just so excited to see that you were all posting...again, I'm going to be back later and gab and read and post to all of you....

YOU just can't believe how excited I am..it's like finding old friends...love you all...as big as the sky.....

Off for now..

(Cathy), MO

Hi Betty. Nice to see your post pop up! I'm glad you made it safely there.

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Hi Betty!! So glad you found the library - and peace and quiet! Your trip down sounds like a hoot! I joke with my DH to stop at every cracker barrel too! Enjoy the sun down there. I'm trying to fight a cold so I'm popping the Zicam and cold-eze to ward it off!

HI to all my other DG "sisters!!

Hey, did any of y'all see the article in Garden Gate magazine with Dave in it? It's about our Garden Watchdog. And there's a pic of Dave!!

I'll check back in later....
Jeannine
