Best/Worse and What did I learn today-a visit with friends

Morning...wow, been shopping since 7am..mega sales in some stores, not in others..but always thinking 'crafting' so lots for me to pick up..Darlene and Mike always give all their employees a gift (total between 25 and 30) so she had decided to do the light blocks so picked up all the cords reg. $1.98 for .59 cents and 75ft of ribbon which probably will do 4 or 5 blocks reg. $19.99 for 5.00 so she's all set..then they had lovely white metal trees 6' with 100 lights in them..will look lovely on my lawn so it was a must that I pick up 2 - reg. $49.99 for $11.98 each so that was a great buy and of course odds and ends...

My trip to the beach yesterday was lovely but focus was on being alone..so beautiful and so many memories with both DH's that sadness returns so I talked myself into seeing the beauty and how lucky I am to have such an opportunity... came back to mom's about 5pm..supper was ready..enjoyed...got some lovely things...spoilt rotten Aunt Muriel says...

Just dropped into Michael's and had a 50% off coupon and nothing to buy..must mean I have pretty well everything I need otherwise I'd have had lots to purchase....

Dawn, went to call you first thing yesterday morning before the day got in full swing, called your number and think it rang a couple of times and then I remembered of course that you were 4 hours behind our time so quickly hung up...or Greg would have throttled me..so if you see a number on your telephone that you don't quite recognize it's because I called...was good intentions...

Did get to talk to Rachel, Susan (101) - she's feeling a little bit better but DH now has it..Judy and Shar...

Liz, didn't have your number and Judy couldn't locate it on DG when I called, but did try..so will have to make it a New Years' call...and all others...need your numbers????? lol

Judy and Liz, sounds like your hand crafted gifts went over big..was at Joanne's this morning looking for velvet..quite expensive here..will go to a nursery this week and try to pick up all the cages...it's always hard in the fall getting all my supplies together so I thought if I ordered the special hair..pour and paint all the faces, get the cages then I can wait until the velvet comes on sale and pick it up for all my workshops...omg..Christmas day is but a day old and already I'm planning next year...

Laura, purchased the guitar hero 3 for both my sons family and omg who was playing it when I gave it to them on our family get-together..you got it...my boys not the grandchildren..lol...can remember when Roger was alive, each and every Christmas the boys had to fight for their toys..they never grow up do they...your windchimbs sound lovely...when I get home Laura, I'm going to go through all my receipts and try to find the one for the stained glass package I sent you...if you've not received it as yet, Lord knows where it is gone so therefore I'm going to see if they'll do something??? let's hope..

Oh Vicki..sorry to hear you were not well..could it be something you ate or just the excitement and being overworked? Do hope Santa spoilt you though..that's one thing about being alone, SANTA brings exactly what I want...lol...

Well, better go get some lunch..have a bit of an earache..think it was the wind on the beach...calling for high 70's and low 80's for most of the next week so I'll be spending a few days, sitting there reading and enjoying...

Yesterday it was so difficult to get a parking place..the entire road in front of the beach is closed down ... major construction..hotels/new road etc. so the 2 small parking lots will fill very quickly so must get there 7 or 8 am to get a spot..you'd think they'd arrange some kind out outer area parking and have a trolley bring people to the beach but not so it will be early rise should I decide to go...

Starting to get somewhat antsy..should have brought something to calm me down..2 weeks without anything to do is quite something...I know, I know I need the rest...

Don't think I told you but got a call from BIL (boss) Paul early early Christmas Day, told me to take an extra week, however, had made arrangements to take FIL home for work on Jan.2..so it was a wonderful thing he gave me for Christmas but it will be northern bound..I will though try a lay a guilt trip on him to prolong our going home by 1 day so I can take one day to go over to the coast to visit with Judy...DH Roger died on New Years day..not my favorite time, so who knows...might just swing it...keep your fingers crossed..

Judy, just think, tomorrow you'll be on your way!!!

so lovely to hear from you. all is well here, everyone had a wonderful time and the best bit, there was minimal mess!! i chose disposable plates! lol worked a treat. Dh LOVES guitar hero, and i have to say, i kinda like it myself!

you all sound like its been wonderful, some off for holidays and others taking it easy. ves was it you that was sick? im sure you didnt spoil it for anyone! the dizziness is probably left over flu or something that has effected your ear. feel better.

you will be happy to note that i have been relaxing, taking on board all you good advice and have got the anxiety under control again.
gosh not being at work, i feel like my old self again! i am sleeping well, 9 and 10 hours!! can you believe it? I never sleep that long! obviously i needed it.

Off to see friends for lunch today and then to the DD (youngest) for dinner and may stay the night. she had her ultrasound recently and all is well.

Hellllooooooo everyone!

We are back from the road for at leadt 18 hours. Then we hit it again heading up to the cabin. We spent Xmas eve at my parents house down in Williamsburg. Then headed down to Raleigh, NC yesterday afternoon to be with DH's family. Had a great time and Santa was great as he always is! Got a great coat from Lands End that looks like a shearling coat but is washable. Love it. Also got lots of fun trinkets from Gardener's Supply Co. that I had noted for DH. All in all, we had a great time and I'm glad to now be heading into the relaxing part of the week.

Betty, you sound like you are keeping busy. I would have been on that beach with you if I'd been there! Where are you in FL again? I love the west coast beaches - lots of great shells! Love the poem you posted!

Laura, everytime I look at my clock, I always add 16 hrs to see what time it is for you and wonder what you are doing. I'm glad you had a good Christmas

Just back from the beach..sun in and out but it's 80 here this aft. - picked up 4 kinds of fruit and will make a salad for supper and will probably get another hour or so of sun..can't believe that my holiday will soon be over...

Was very distressed last night though...called home to check in, see if Cathy is making out ok with the animals and all of a sudden it came to her who had passed away...it was Bert, Geraldine's husband..remember they were at my house for Thanksgiving...he had cancer but had beaten it several time, well he passed away on the 23rd and Geraldine spent Christmas eve on her own and Christmas as well..I would certainly have gone up to see her (about 80 miles from here) had I known..Bert's family arrived last night, couldn't get a flight out before then so I told Geraldine I'd call her tonight and perhaps might take a run in tomorrow or Sunday...she said they could not do the cremation until 3 days had passed so imagine Bert's son made arrangements today...I feel so sad for her..poor little waif..although since she married Bert she came out of her shell..she lived before her 2nd marriage about 4 miles from me up north..we had lost our DH's about the same time...after meeting Bert she moved to Florida and did a lot of travelling..she's not sure what provisions have been made for her, although many verbally, his son said a few days ago it's too bad that he had not put anything in writting so who knows...she will though stay till after winter is over and then see what the outcome is..though they had originally signed documents in Canada who knows if they are valid here in Florida. So, prayers for her please...

Guess Judy is on the road south by now..haven't mentioned changes to SF as yet, not sure if he'll be willing to get back 1 day late so I can visit with her...that would certainly be too bad, so close and yet so far, not getting to meet her...

Well, must check some woodworking stores here on-line to see if any in the area so that I could bring my SF to them and then off I go...

Everyone enjoying their time off ??? Hope so...now it's time to unwind..lol...

Betty- Glad that you are enjoying the beach, even though it brings back many memories. If you weren't already thinking about next fall we would be worried! I'm right there with you. Yesterday I bought supplies for making wreaths as gifts for next christmas. Going to go back to Micheals and JoAnns today with Anita. Was at both yesterday with my SIL's but didn't have enough time to look at everything. Can't beat 75% off! Also went to Tuesday Morning, there Christmas stuff was 50% off, got some decorative napkins with Amaryllis on them. Thier clearance items were an additional 50% off the already marked down price, got three birthday presents taken care off already! Kohl's had 70% off Xmas items so I got two ornaments for next years ornament exchanges that I participate in and two cut fingertip towels red and burgundy with embroidered pinecones and pine boughs on them for the guest bathroom. The best thing that I bought yesterday was my new 19.2 volt cordless Craftsman drill! I had one for about 6 years before it finally gave up the ghost, used the heck out of it! This one was regularly $125 and was on sale for $89, wahoo!

michaels had some good deals, got 7 rolls of ribbon at 2.99 for the glass boxes, replaced my paints i used for the sleighs good greif they have valentines and st patricks out already
they really know how to put the pressure on me lol now im going to have to drag out the bins for both hollidays but they had lots of fun stuff cheap.
good luck on velvet seems like that hardly ever go's on sale so i bet your getting a nice tan in that warm sun just envy you were freezing heater has been on 75-80 electric blanket to

I had a wonderful family Christmas..22 of us on Christmas Eve..
One gift was a twig plant stand..which will look great out in the Secret Garden and a little twig chair too. A beauitful B&H Yard and Garden Projects..gorgeous pics in it.
There were 11 for Christmas dinner...the stuffed Butterball turkey was so easy to cook and it was lovely..although my nephew said that my dressing that I make is much better than what was in the already stuffed turkey.

My family that stays with me left on Boxing day afternoon. I tidied up a bit and then fell asleep.

Yesterday was playing around with my digital photo key chain and digital photo frame and my Christmas photos..I love photos..and I received three digital photo key chains. Later I went out to the library and to the hardware store and got some wrapping paper half price and a string of indoor lights half price. Maybe today I will try to return the extra digital key chains.

well its in the am... just after midnight and i cant sleep.

my DH and DS went to the movies tonight meeting my other DS on the way. It appears that one of the friends of my youngest son offered to drive everyone and it turns out she was a shocking driver! a young girl, doing 120KM down a side street that you can only do 50 in!
i was furious that she would take the lives of my loved ones into her hands like that and risk them! apparently when asked to slow down she just laughed! im still furious which is why i cant sleep. she could have destroyed so many lives! argggghhh!!! we have so many deaths on the roads here and its mostly this age group, the car filled with friends and acting like idiots,... im so mad. thank god they are ok. my husbad was quite shaken and he used to be a race driver!!! if i ever see her i will have a thing or two to say thats for sure! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

anyway..................... have to stop thinking about it.
might go and watch some will and grace...

Seed I got your adorable stocking and I have it out. I got it 2 days after Christmas but still how nice that was and so cute. The perfect size for swedish fish candy to be given to me at Christmas.

Best yesterday was I went about an hour away from here to see her after she had cosmetic surgury and she is my age and never been married so she has no family near and asked me months ago to please see her so I did and she was so thankful that it made it worth the gas in my big Ram truck to go.

Worst was that I didn't get some stuff done that I had hoped to while in town and now I have to go back in and waste gas to do it this weekend or Monday.

Best today is that my dh has 9 days off with me

oh the stupid one get this thursday my boss leaves at 4 i leave at 5 then the store closes at 6 so after my boss left the girls move their car to the frount of the store well the good one says omg am i crazy in 1 minute to move a car did you smell her so i walked to go around her and yep she stunk mild like a skunk i guess she thinks were all stupid and live in a bubble.
so friday i told my boss that im done and after this im going to call our district mgr for any more issues she agree'd i have a better story lol one day after her lunch she could hardly open her eyes,didnt smell but sat there eating a loaf of french bread and she is so proud to say she has been fired from every job now having a 2 year old little girl wouldnt you think to clean your act up... kids i guess i'll never understand them lol

rachel, michaels is got both hollidays out already its crazy hit the mall last night made my exchange at coldwaters mall was dead it was surprising , walgreens had the 50 light strands for 1.25 got twelve clear and asst color had two already so now i have enough ribbon and lights for 14 glass boxes now to send mil on the hunt for glass boxes if you want the best deal ask her lol she'll get it!

What a thoughfull post Liz, you addressed everyone I think. SIL is in the marines so who knows where they will go but he thinks to the golf so she will probably stay here for a while.

I can't sleep.

I know. Funny. It is about 23 in the nights when there is no clouds and the days with no clouds are in the 40's lately but when we have rain and clouds it is about 40 in the nights and 60 in the day or slightly less. We act like we are tortured but we are so spoiled in Cal. when it comes to cold.

Seems you miss me.......You know I don't post a whole lot, but I really appreciate the fact that you notice that I am NOT.....

What am I up to? Just chillin' between the Holidays. I drove to NJ to my sisters last Sunday and did not come home until Thursday afternoon. I go there every year, as otherwise I would not have any idea it was Christmas around here. Over there, there are a lot of young people and 11 grandkids and total insanity rules on Christmas Eve when they all rip into some 50-60 gifts at the same time. The adults just kind of sit back, sip their drinks and smile....
The sad part to me is that most of the gifts go unacknowledged as they get tossed aside so they can rip open the next one. As sweet as they all are, I don't like this aspect of it at all. Too mush greed and materialism.
I gave everyone books, mostly. I just hope they all stayed in their respective bags.

Wednesday (12/26) my sister, myself and a neighbor of hers took the bus into NY to see the sights. Walked a lot--my knee still "knows" it!
Yesterday, went to an "Unwanted Christmas Gift Exchange" party which is traditional in the Group I belong to. It is done in the Chinese Auction style and is a lot of fun. No one opens the gifts until everyone has picked one and is done trading. Then we all open them at the same time and then people can trade again if they are not happy with what they got. The price limit is about $15. And--OH the food! It is always pot-luck! We have lots of good cooks!
Have the New Years party to go to yet, also with my Group which I have belonged to for 15 years. It is a group for separated, divorced and widowed people. NOT a singles group per say, even though we all are single, but it is a nice support group with a lot of activities in and out of peoples homes, which helps the "single again" (most of us are 50 and above) get back into the swing of life. It was started by a Nun and has very Catholic overtones--but is non-denominational. I am not a Catholic either.
So, most anything I do on the social level is with this group. I, myself, hold about 3 big get-togethers every year. The little craft group I hold is one of them. it is small--only 4-6 people. Then the huge Summer Solstice cookout (45-50 people) and my Halloween Party, which usually draws about 30-35 people--over half of them in some kind of costume. I choose judges and have winners in 5 different categories and then I present them with prizes. People really love my parties as I am a stickler for detail and organization.

So, now I am waiting for life to get back to my "comfortable" hum-drum. Got a few hors at work too next week. Have had a nice 3 week hiatus of NO work...Need to do a lot of straightening and tidying up around this house. Jan. is always a good time, as there is a general feeling of "renewal" with the New Year.

Same happened for years at my house, now one gift is given at a time, everyone watches to see what the treasure will be and a few seconds given for the ohs/ahs to be had..

Will be nice to get back into a normal routine however hum/drum won't it...how nice, New York City...that is one of my dreams, to get to visit all those sights..one day...

New Years' celebrations sound wonderful..it's my hard time of year...I get excited that it's my eldest son's birthday and then let down, anniversary of my DH Roger's death..always try to keep busy so it passes quietly...

Gita nice to see you post too. sounds like a good group and not all alterior motives like singles or partents w/out partners is. I like to open presents one at a time and watch everyone do it. My back was a bit out and I was passing out gifts and so my Dad thought he'd help and started just passing things out fast and nobody got to see anyones reactions and even know if something was missing. I hate that. You should propose an all morning hand out and everyone watching. Hard for kids but it is really more fun for them because they get to make it last longer.

Hi Betty...it is great to hear from you, and what you are doing. Good thing you can escape and do things as you please during the day.
So..a digital photo key chain is like a tiny digital camera screen that you can load with photos from your computer and play like a slideshow to show others, or just amuse yourself.
I have loaded it with my Christmas photos.

I returned the two extras I received yesterday and got a credit. I see they have a folding table on sale starting today that would be handy to have so I will pick one of those up soon.

gita, what wonderful groups you have and all the fun behind them unwanted gift exchange sounds like a blast hope your knee is better, i hear you on the gift thing we now get i enormus box and put everything in side for each person so they have to dig layer by layer and everyone gets to see because of the curiosity of the size of the box works for us, you'll have to show us all your goodies when you have your next craft class.

new year day was a sad day for me to my dad died on jan 1 i was 9 always think what would he of been like had he lived.

i want to make my sleigh but getting the not so dear husband to do it is like pulling teeth! i need him to cut it out for me!

bad day today, daughter accused me of lying and all sorts of things including, can yiu believe it, not wanting the grandchildren around or at any function!! incredible eh?
well, some friends invited us for new years but said they only wanted me and hubby. they asked not to invite the kids. i thought they meant the grandchildren as they said they struggle with little ones.
well when i was asked what i was doing i told her i was going there for dinner and they wanted to go to. i told them to call and that i thought maybe a babysitter would be good so they can relax. my DD asked why and i told her that the friend sometimes struggled with little ones. well, that was it, i am the worst thing to draw breath it seems. the friends denied saying it, though there was a room of people there, the DD called me a liar and thinks i hate the grandchildren and dont want them around, she wont speak to me and i have done nothing! never be 'piggy in the middle'. so the get together got called off as she called the friends asking why her children were not welcome, they denied it and it all came back on me. they even told me to lie to her andtell here we were going away! i said no that i wouldnt do that. when she asked to go, i told her to call them and ask so i didnt have to be involved, they told her of course and they had never said any different!
sigh...

so in her usual manner, i wont see her or the Grand children for some time....one must be punished you know!

Nope, I did not get to meet Judy. sniff, sniff. I had unexpected company who came in on the evening of the 27th. They did not stay with me but my son invited them back here for brunch on the 28th. Needless to say, I was sort of "caught in the middle". It wasn't bad, but did prevent the 4 hour trip to and from our prearranged meeting place at Mammoth Cave where Judy and her family had spent the night and were eating before starting on the rest of their southward trek. But as Judy and I decided, we don't live that far apart. And there will be other days.

Laura, sorry, but as always "this, too shall pass", ya know??

So now I am fighting something that is going on in my head......could be a cold, could be sinus, could be anything......but yesterday and last night I couldn't breathe and sounded like a foghorn. Now I can breathe, but still sound like a foghorn. so...probably a sinus infection.
I think I let myself get a bit rundown, since I don't usually get colds or that type of thing easily.

Ethan is still here.....my house is like a toy store......and I wish I were feeling better so I could enjoy him more. My son is here also, of course, so I don't have to be near Ethan as much, and maybe won't give him this germ that I am fighting.

Betty is our "fearless leader" (that is what I call her...LOL)..she out-posts all of us..and we can't wait to see what she is up to next..she runs circles around us..makes us tired just to read what she is up to.

Liz..the Digital picture key chain holds 72 photos.
I bought the folding table and it is set up in the living room right now just to see how it works..hope I can get it folded back up ok.
It even came with a cranberry coloured plastic tablecoth.

I bought birthday gifts yesterday for my DIL whose birthday is tomorrrow..and two of my Grandaughters who will be 20 on the 4th and the 6th of Jan.. Interesting that both my sons had children born only two days apart.

I also bought myself a great 2008 agenda that has room to write things on each date to keep track of appointments or events coming up or that a bill is due etc. I keep it on the computer desk and find it very helpful to jot things down.

Laura..what a sad mix up....I am sorry. I do hope things turn around quickly and that your daughter sees some reason. It was not nice of your friends to deny saying that they preferred not to have children there.

Starzz - You have a beautiful family! The daily agenda's are a lifesaver, I have had a Palm Pilot (several actually, they last about two years) for the past 7 or 8 years, can't live without one. Always have it with me. The one I have know is a Treo (cell phone and Palm Pilot all in one.!)

best evening yet finishing up a snowman shovel for next year phone started to ring i could hear dh saying yes hold on its betty i almost fell out of my chair getting to the phone what a delightful person just as wonderful on the phone as her posts are, she sounded so rested and in the workings of planning her workshops already said the weather was nice and warm and they will be heading out in the morning if all go's well weather permiting they should be back in canada in 26 hours, stepfather will do some of the driving that will be nice.

omg the evening gets better just heard from judy they arrived safely in florida,said the rain was something else in georgia scared her lots, they went on a hike today now their on their way to the hot tub to soak those muscles lol
kids are doing good tomorrow there going to get some sun off to the beach
meet some friends for new years and just relax the rest of the time said she was going to try to get to a computer maby tomorrow, not sure if she will get to meet up with betty but hoping asked me to post for her. so with all the excitement im going to have dinner and retire have a great evening all

Ok My best for today is that my close friend just called and said her brother was in an Accident and was thrown 80 feet and lived with just 2 broken bones and road rash. I have known him since he was a kid and he is like 26. He told the Medivac helicopter to call his Mom and he told his mom that he didn't remember anything but he saw his Grandma that died a year ago and she said,"Go back Gene, it is not your time." This is my best and my worst thing today.

I have a second best thing too, my DG friend who I have been praying for that has been treated for colon cancer for the last year is showing NO SIGNS OF CANCER.
