Congrats Judy!!!! A new baby to spoil!!!

Carol - awesome card for Betty! I KNOW she will love it!!!! Look at those kitties with hats on!!!!

Betty, your snowy yard is just so Christmasy! I love it!!!

Well took my last test for my class tonight. I'm sure I passed. The family met me at the gardens after the test and we walked around looking at the pretty lights. While the lights were great, the orchid house was phenomenal! Here's a picture of just a few there.

Those orchids are gorgeous!
Good for you to have done well on the test. Must have been real pretty seeing the lights.

I wonder if Betty fell asleep early. She has been working so hard on her crafts.
I dozed off this evening too, while watching TV..must be time for bed now LOL

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

I am wondering about Betty, too. What about electricity? Would the storm affect that? It isn't like her to leave us without a word.

Here we go worrying about her again.......sorry, Betty..that's just the way we are.

GG, congrats on acing the test.....those orchids sure are lovely!

OK, back to worrying about Betty.

Hi everyone, it's early morning..been up since 3am .. of course 1st thing I did as I could hear the howling outside of the wind was look out, but all is calm, beautiful and serene..had my coffee looking out the window...

Kyle came over yesterday about 2:30 it was a snowday for him as well..had a great visit, then, Kathy dropped in to gab and spent 2 hrs..was difficult for me to sit and chat when all I wanted to do was come downstairs and finish some goodies..but, ended up enjoying our visit and guess what, she offered to come and stay at my house and keep the animals company while I go to Florida..now for my Florida trip, if all goes well this is what I have planned..I'll leave on the 16 or 17th. with mom and Aunt..am hoping my laminated birth certificate will get me across the border IF the new one I've ordered isn't in...my step father will fly out on the 20th..(he has his passport) to Fort Myers and will bring the van up to Clearwater for me..then on the 30th. we'll both travel home..that was and is my plan..however, Darlene called me yesterday and said they had 3 doctors go over her father and they cannot find anything wrong with him..???? isn't that odd, as Ft.Myers hospital had him sent by jet back to canada because of blockages...hmmm... confusing..so Art is already talking about going back to Florida (not sure what the insurance company will think though) but Darlene still thinks we should bring back the van, her mom and dad can fly down there and if they need a car when friends are unable to drive them somewhere then they can rent one..with flying down and back it would put all their concerns to rest...but still, more checking should happen with other hospitals as to what the problem was don't you think... so I'm feeling good about my possibly getting to Florida and visiting with Judy and perhaps a coffee with Susan (101)..let's hope...

And I did fall asleep, that's why I'm up so early..had all the sleep I need, now it's time to play until 6:45 when I leave for work...will be a short week as I've asked for Friday off to do my annual workshop with the painters...

Carol, how in the world did you do that? I'm not computer literate..omg it's just to cute and yes, wouldn't it make a lovely Christmas card..you'll have to share..brought a smile from ear to ear...I glanced at it ever so quickly last night and thought someone has a similar room to mine...wake up girl..this morning I saw why..thanks...

Happy Birthday Jeannine...hope it's filled with joy and of course presents/presents and more presents...may your family spoil you to bits..

Judy Donovan Blaze, what a lovely name..how exciting for you all..a new baby for Christmas..what more could one want...brings new life and new hope to the world...no more babies in my family..must wait till grandchildren do me the honors...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thought I'd show you a photo of Santa's workshop as of this morning...all my wood is cut for all the 4' Victorian Santa's, sitting in hallway ready to be transported to Coldwater...

Suzanne and her daughter Danielle have been wanting to come and do the snowman candle holders..they were all cut ready to paint but their schedules are insane, so, yesterday I did a good deed and there are 10 snowmen waiting to be picked up...

Yes, was busy/busy..but aren't Santa's elves always ready and willing???

Good morning Betty! Thank you for the birthday wishes! I'm up early too - woke up then couldn't fall back asleep. Guess thinking about everything I'm going to do today kept me awake. You are one busy beaver with all that craft stuff! Sounds like you had a nice day yesterday at home. Will the snow keep you home today too?

Well, I'm off to the couch to catch up on my stories. I'll chat with you later today. Thank you again for my BD wishes. My family spoils me so I'm sure I will have tons of presents!!

Bye for now....

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm glad for you Jeannine..do enjoy your day! Nope, not blistery today, lots of snow so we're fine to go...took about 20 calls yesterday so kept fairly busy and we had a staff at work who lives in the city..something new to us..Wayne started 2 weeks ago so was able to take on some of the slack..lol...

Just puddling around this morning..lots of time on my hands..will go out and shovel and start the car incase there is still ice on it..plus, I still have trunk loaded with wood...lol..might as well leave the majority of it in the trunk as I'd only have to reload it on Thursday ight...have to call Diane to see if she can bring her truck here on Thursday night or early Friday morning to load all the materials/compressors and guns...that's always a chore...

Talk with you later...

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

As usual, y'all are busy...I've had a lot going on...lots of funny stuff

Best:watching my daughter get all excited for Christmas

Worst: my in-laws are coming again this weekend, then wwe'll of course have to see them for Christmas....at this point I actually wish they'd move closer so they could do short visits and leave us alone

What I've Learned: Heating/maintaining a greenhouse is hard and expensive. I am mortified of the power bill and have been cutting off every light, etc. I see...and the GH still isn't warm enough at night with one heater :(. As long as I don't kill everything.....lol

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Hi Trop..too bad about the high electric bills. You have to wonder if saving the plants over is worth it.

Betty..I used an old Microsoft Picture It 2001 program to put the Picture Art on your photo. Glad it gave you a grin. I hope your drive goes ok this morning. Doesn't sound good on Breakfast television north of the city.

Pacifica, CA

OMG..thank goodness Paul's busy..it's been so quiet here..girlfriend just called at 3:20 to say she couldn't get through, keeps saying mailbox is full..no wonder, we got here after 10 and I assumed Paul had taken the 'call forward' off but guess he hadn't..all calls were forwarded to my house...no wonder I wasn't getting any calls...Paul will freak for sure...lol...I had 25 calls when I called my home..imagine doing such a thing..shouldn't 'assume' right?

Hello Vicki..what have you been up to of late..getting some of our snow?
Rachel..snowmen are going to Suzanne's place tomorrow..she's giving them away as gifts...better at her house than storing them at mine..lol

Well better get back to work..and they pay me for being 'smart and with it' NOT

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Thank you everyone for the wonderful birthday wishes! I had a great day! First off, I took the day off from work. My parents came up and we went to the quilt store (mom & I were baaaaad!) and then lunch. Mom made me one of my favorite cakes - a 4-layer coconut cake. They left around 4pm - right after DH and kids got home. I then got the gifts from them and as usual, they went overboard! I got 2 Jim Shore figurines - a horse pull toy and a cow pull toy; a beautiful picture that DD drew; a George Forman G5 grill and a new bird feeder, bottom tray, top dome and seed. Then we went to Osaka and had the hibachi dinner. The kids actually liked it and had a lot of fun. After we left there, we rode by one of the neighborhoods that is on the "tacky light tour" for Xmas lights. I can only imagine what these peoples electric bills are like come January!

In addition to the cake from my parents, DH bought me my favorite "grocery store bakery" cake that had "Happy Birthday to the Queen of the House" on it! I loved it!!! So needless to say, I am quite stuffed right now and I'm sure my jeans will be tight tomorrow!

So all in all I've had a great day! I got a number of birthday wishes from friends at work too and also $50 from my DFIL. Oh I forgot, my sister sent her gift with my parents. It was the Mercy Me Xmas CD, a couple of Xmas tea towels, and a pretty glass ornament with a snowman in it.

Betty, I can't believe you spent most of the day on the roads today! You poor thing! UGH!!!!

Laura, love the boomerang card!!!!

Vicki, the snow is beautiful! I want snoooooow! It snowed here on my birthday 4 years ago! We're actually suppose to get a couple of flurries in the AM. And I'm sure it will be TWO flurries and they will probably close schools!!! Our county is so big and a lot of it is rural so if even one bus cannot get down a road, all of the schools close. Well, we can wish!!

Well all, thank you again for the wonderful BD wishes! You all of such great friends!!! I am off to la la land. Tomorrow I start a whole new year!!

Night all!!
Jeannine

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Well aren't you the spoiled one! LOL
Good for you..what a wonderful day you had.

Happy Birthday Jeannine

Cheers,
Carol

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Seed- Glad to hear that the baby is doing well.

Betty- Sorry to hear about the long drives glad that you got home safe and sound.

Jeannine- You lucky girl, I love the Jim Shore figurines too! I have the one of the bunny leaping.

Best- Having friends over to share the first night of Hanukkah with.
Worst- I burned my hand when I was making popcorn last night and I accidentally broke the blister open today, ouch! Thank goodness for waterproof bandaids!
Learned- No matter how long ago someone passed away you never stop missing them. I always miss my Oma and Opa (grandma and grandpa in German) it's even worse during the holidays. I was very fortunate to grow up next door to them and have them in my life everyday. My Opa has been gone for 17 years and my Oma has been gone for 13 it just seems like yesterday that they where here. Just reminds me to enjoy everyday to the fullest and to never hold back.

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

hi there,

glad your BD was so great!

I hear that rachie... i miss my oma too and my father...

The time here is now 8.47pm!

work was really busy today, still sucks but there are worse things.

looking forward to my days off.

a lady i know just told me her dad has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, her motherinlaw had a heart attack and is in CCU and her daughter who's baby died a few hours after he was born, has been unable to locate his ashes. it seems the funeral parlour has lost them!! makes my troubles look trivial.
Please remember them in your prayers.. its sarahs dad with the cancer, russells mum with the heart attack and their daughter mindy who has been unable to locate her babies ashes.

thanks

Morning ... no snow day today, unless the weather they were predicting is closer to the city, it will be a fine cold/cold day...so pretty outside..

Was up early, packing up materials, making my list of needs for Friday project..boy, lotsa work..almost over though..had to clean this morning my craft room or the girls tonight wouldn't be able to find it..so, can't stay long, will respond to all you wonderful posts as soon as I get into work...

jeannine , you had a great bd glad to hear, they sure know how to spoil you wasnt that just wonderfu.l

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Morningall,
I'm going to brave the bitter cold and try to get some more Christmas shopping done.
It is -10c here right now.
Hope your drive was ok today Betty.

Sad thing happened yesterday..an 18 yr. old friend of my grandson was killed on the Hwy 115 leaving school.
His small car didn't have airbags I am told. He hit the median. So sad for the family.

Good news..my DIL had angioplasty yesterday and it went well..she is home resting .

I picked up a book at the library yesterday called "Use the good dishes"..good thought.

Have a good all

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Rachel - Happy Hannukah! One of the guys I work with is Jewish so I bought him a "Sammy the Draidelette" menorah. It's a hoot - but very annoying with the music. He finally got his wife to agree to a blow up draidel in the front yard. THAT was a hoot to see! He is ok with blue and white lights in the yard but she says they are "Christmas lights". He's like, well it Hannukah is the festival of lights! She didn't buy that!!

Betty, glad no snow for you today. It's actually snowing here right now! It won't amount to anything but it sure is pretty!!! I'm sure all the kids at school have their cold noses glued to the windows looking at it!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Did make it in this morning, bitter cold but roads were bare..omg Carol, how tragic for that family..will have to listen to A-Channel...you've a good day for Christmas shopping..understand they've earmarked Dec.16th as being the busiest shopping day using interact! DIL doing ok...they sure don't keep people in hospital for very long anymore do they..goodness..heard of someone who had open heart surgery and he was out within the week..imagine..you'd be in a few years ago for 10 days for any surgery...haven't heard 'use the good dishes' will check next time I'm at book store..thanks for sharing..

Darlene is waiting on her final test results Liz..nobody seems to be rushing so perhaps they don't think the lumps are serious..hopefully she'll have news by Friday..nope, tonight the class is working on all different projects..bit confusing..probably teach next Wedn. then that's it..I've Friday off Liz to teach at a community center..that's where I needed all of those Victorian Santa body parts..lol..

Laura, going to pray for all those you listed..how horrible, to lose the ashes..my goodness, you'd never get over that would you...boss still trying to be nice? was just telling my nephew the other day, regardless of where you work, there are downfalls and perks...so, if the job itself is something you like, just have to try to make the best of it...guess that's what you are doing...good girl!

Rachel, must hurt like the dickens..blisters/burns...yuk...now I do know how you feel with regards to missing loved ones...remember when I took on job of recreation co-ordinator I worked with a group of seniors..they'd all talk about the loss of their loved ones, with such emotion, tears in their eyes and I remember asking someone if this particular group was a bereavement group and the answer was 'no'..when I went on to ask them when their loved ones had passed on they'd come up with 15 yrs, 20 yrs, 30 yrs. and I was in awe of it..to still be so fresh in their minds and hearts..couldn't understand it...then my beloved Roger passed away New Years' Day 1991..today I can recount conversations, feelings, being overwhelmed, feeling the loss as though it was yesterday..guess we will never get over the hurt, but, must also remember all of those cherished memories...have lost so many since Roger's death that you have to wonder if it doesn't in some ways make you have a 'cold' heart to these losses..I often wonder if I should be hurting much more than I am or if it's ones self preservation that kicks in to make us deal with these loses...I'm rambling, must be tired..lol...enjoy your memories Rachel...Christmas seems to bring emotions to the surface
Jeannine, you won't need Christmas after all the gifts you've received for your birthday..goodness girl you did get spoilt..my Jeff's birthday is on Saturday, my GS Kyle next Friday and other son Greg, New Years' Day..he always gets the bad end of the stick..as a child who has birthday parties on New Years Day, then his dad died on his BD so, not something he likes to celebrate now..he'll be 40 next year so think we'll really surprise him and have an early 40th in Aug./Sept.

Been working trying to make arrangements for StepFather's flight to Fort Myers to pick up Darlene's dad's vehicle..now their insurance say it must be back in Canada 30 days from time he was airlifted home..that means we'd have to be back the 28th..can't see that they can't extend it..so she's calling the insurance company back to check it out...problems/problems...

Gab later...

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Betty,

"YOUR" snow just arrived in Baltimore! It is just a steady flurry, but is supposed to last until 9PM tonight. Our first snow! The humidity here plays havoc when we have snow.

Listening to the radio--the roads are a mess! Not so much from the snow, but all the ice. And now all the ice is hidden under the snow! People are calling in to the radio station saying they are sitting for hours already on I-95 trying to get to their destinations.

This is an absolute fact!!!! People here panic when about 5 flakes come down. They just don't know how to drive in the slightest adverse conditions. Most have NO clue that being in a low gear and driving carefully is all that's needed. Of course--then there are all the other morons.....
Of course--evryone also runs to the Grocery stores to buy milk, toilet paper and bread. Like--they'll have to be housebound for a month or something?????? Crazy!

Me--I am home and not going anywhere. Don't look forward to shoveling all the snow tomorrow. Everyone around this area--STAY SAFE!!!

Gita

Victoria Harbour, ON

Gita, much the same here..blizzard conditions and you see the morons driving same speeds as when conditions are A+..then they wonder why accidents happen..one young woman lost her life yesterday or day before because of freezing rain had created a sheet of a few inches on the rooftop, well they did not clear it, while driving it dislodged and flew into her windshield..

Can't understand why people insist that they've things to do on such days, stay in, stay safe and enjoy a quiet day..last week one day they even took the plows off the road, can you tell me why anyone was driving..we weren't but know others who brag they made it...this time ...

Now would your snowfall stay..do you normally have large amounts?
Saw they were using the ski hills in a nearby town to me..last year it wasn't until mid January so looks like they are a month ahead..great revenues for them...

So how will you fill your day today Gita? Reading/decorating/cooking? or just plain relaxing? lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Looks like I'll be sunning in Florida...what did I accomplish today...

Booked step-father on a flight to Fort Myers for Dec.21st. so he can pick up Arts' vehicle...confirmed and paperwork received...

Kathy will stay at my house for the 2+ weeks

Darlene will deliver all the paperwork we need for the van coverage, pick-up and border info for everything we're bringing back

I'm going to have my Aunt pick me up on Dec.16th (weather permitting) or Dec.17th to get to Mom's to pick her up..then it's off for a road trek with mom/Aunt and 2 doggies..lordy/lordy...am I in for a fun ride..lol...

Called Jeff and asked if he'd be disappointed if on the 15th which I'll have everyone over if I ordered Chinese food..said it was fine with him, now just a call to Greg/Mel's to check it out as well...

Order from Sears Canada case for Guitar Hero guitars that I bought, pogo stick, case for another guitar..will pick up metal detector to go with dvd player for Kyle and perhaps Sat. or Sun. I'll get out to finish all that remains, then I can pack my bags..sound organized...let's hope everything goes according to plan...

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

My gosh I can't believe we are still on the same thread. lol.

I survived and it was fine. Good in a lot of ways but at the end my ds got her feelings hurt because my aunt answered all her questions by looking at me and DH got his nose a little disjointed by the same thing only my bil answered all Greg's questions to everyone else.

It is hard to look at a big group when talking if everyone is sitting everywhere. funny. I hate that and have been on both sides of that in a large or small group.

How is your poor broken body B?

Shar that tree is coming to CA. I tell true as my Ukrainian Grandma would say.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Betty,

I am NOT a reader! I have cooked enough in the past 3 weeks! I do not decorate or put up a tree for Christmas, as I always spend the Holiday up in New Jersey with my sister and her "clan"---5 kids, their husbands and 11 grandkids from 4 months -16 years.
Haven't done a tree in about 8 years! Bah--Humbug!

ME? Relax? I don't know how--yet the day gets filled up with all kinds of stuff anyway. One thing--I spend way too much time on the computer!!!!!! I think we all do....

I was asked yesterday (by a man I work with) to paint a white, metal mailbox for his daughter's wedding on 12/22. He just brought it over today. They want their name painted on both sides of the mailbox. Like--"THE JONSES"..... and then a small thing on the bottom that says "Established 2007". Cute! He brought some acrylic paint from a craft store and an example of another mailbox done similarly.
Would you say acrylic paint will stick to a shiny white metal mailbox? I think so! It is going to be used at the reception for people to put their cards into. NOT outside!

I told him to ask his daughter to choose a font from MW and e-mail it to me. I'd rather it was something SHE wanted--not something I thought was cute. ,,Waiting.......

The snow is already slush on the streets. Of course--all that will now freeze and create another problem. I will see what's what when i get up tomorrow.

Have a good evening! Gita

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Gita, I agree with you 100% on how the mid-east coasters react to snow! The snow we got today gave us a good dusting - the ground was getting covered - another hour or two and it would have been completely covered. Luckily, it did not stick to the roads so schools didn't close! By mid afternoon, it was all gone :(

Betty, are you driving down to Florida? If you are what route do you take? I-95 south?? I live 10 mins from 95 - maybe I can catch up with you on your way down???? Let me know!!!

Well, off to watch KidNation. Will check back in later!

Jeannine
