Greg thinks he knows where the saw is and hope the black widdows are dead since it has been such a heat wave they are not dormant. If I am at church then I can try to do it from your instructions hopefuly. i didn't think I was going to be able to do it but am going to try, it will make me feel spirity.

You guys all have such busy lives. We are doing an early group of friends Pot Luck Thanksgiving tomorrow, so I may not do my craft if I can't get it cut out. I have to paint my living room before my relatives come the 30th too.

Dawn, when you have a free day and see all those beautiful sleighs, you let me know, and I'll be around to help you..

Liz, I hadn't even though of that.....wow, you are in California right...tell you what I'll do because a few of you will be doing it at 9 (together) just in different parts of the world so my 9 would be 5am your time isn't it..I will be doing wrapping and odd crafts tomorrow so let's see..I will keep checking in every 5 or 10 minutes to see who is doing one checking in..then I'll help each and every one of you..better that way than you reading my instructions that way if you need to ask a question I'll be right here...not to worry..I am excited about seeing your finished project..

Victoria Harbour, ON

It's early in the morning and I'm looking through unfinished projects..came up with Mr. & Mrs. Snowman..guess I'll finish them...did about 5 sets a few years ago, gave mine away and kept this set..guess it's time to become a couple for them..lol..

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Oh!!..I just lost all my post!!!!

Checked back about Betty telling Seedtosser about the Decoupage..the posts about it are up near the top, Laura.
Betty can you confirm about needing it for our sleigh craft tomorrow....the one I have is Podge It..Seedtosser has one called Hodge Podge.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Starzz..(Carol) yep that will be ok..

Liz..will post dimensions wood piece so easy to cut..you just buy the wood and shape the top for head..will post though..coming out cute..

Have to leave for 1/2 hr. wouldn't you know I forgot my wallet in girlfriends car..they are on the way to the city so I'll meet them mid-way..can't believe I did that, Yes I Can..

As for the runners..keep forgetting..I have a brad nailer so I just brad nail them when done..guess you could also glue them on after..you make such a mess in the process we're doing that it would be very hard keeping them clean of paint..let me think..you could screw the runners to the side afterwards, screw them in deeply where you could add wood filler and restain...not sure what tools are available to you, but we'll make it work...glad you are up early..lol...I've cut out a few, will make one or two along with you so I can post where I'm at -step by step...forgot my labtec at work, will check camera video to see how long it gives me...

Pacifica, CA

betty, could you post a finished sleigh again

Victoria Harbour, ON

Ok...Liz you need 8' of 1" x 6" wood to give you this snowman couple... 4' for each

20" for the upper body part...4" for the sitting piece and then 18" for the legs..when you sketch the legs are 2" wide with the foot 4 1/2 inches across..now if you place your sketch of the legs opposite each other you'll have plenty of room...

the male snowman has a different head..will show you when I complete him...these really are easy/easy..just left over materials - I prefer the fluffy plaids but I'm using what's in the house today..some raffia and not much more...I think when I originally bought this couple I paid $125.00 for the set and probably can make it for $20.00

You will notice the blotchy paint on her arms but that's okay because I'll sand it down to give it an antique look..

You need a kind of stovepipe wire to bend to hold the arms..could screw them I guess, but I find it adds to the piece done this way...

I have been totally MIA for the past few days, we've been dealing with school issues - argh. Anyway. it's so neat to see everyone so excited about the Santa sled craft. It's sure to be lots of fun. I can't wait to see all the pictures. Also, thank you to everyone who offered congratulations to Sonora for her win. I don't have the actual picture that she entered in the contest but I'm posting another drawing that she did. This is one of her favourite scenes to draw.

Oooh Betty, I'm so jealous of you going to that craft show, it sounds amazing.

Pretty soon here the elders will start setting up tables in the 'complex' (where the grocery store, post office and other services are located). I'm hoping to get Ella a pair of winter moccasins there. I'd like to make some for our whole family but it would be nice to have a pair in front of me to look off. I also don't know when I'll get around to making them and she's sort of desperate for them. Winter boots are too heavy for her to walk in but her other footwear is not snow-worthy.

Well, we woke up yesterday with everything snow-covered and it's still there. I really hope it stays. I will certainly be glad to have a break from all the mud and potholes that we've had for the past couple of months. Our road here are unpaved and they're clay. When it's dry (or frozen), they're great. When it's wet, they fall apart.

So today's our big shopping day. We usually do a huge grocery shopping trip once a month around the 15th. I'm hoping that DH will go today. I guess I better get the list ready though.

Hi,
Everyone busy today!...Making ready for tomorrow's big day. I am really excited, last night cleaned my craft talbel and moved it to the sun-room where computer is! Took several hours as, whew! what a mess...picture is from a couple of days ago...All runners have been cut so off to paint sleigh and stain the runners.

Gilli, what a wonderful drawing by Sonora! No wonder she won.

Look at my mess, got to love it though!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Talk about anxious..girlfriend Ann was over..her craft show got cancelled last weekend so we've decided that if I can find the time to make posters this week and post them, we'll have a little craft show next Sunday, I've loads of unfinished projects..just have to find more energy..so today I'm almost finished the snowman couple .. just have to go to $$store and pick up scarves..then I did 2 snowmen that have a teddy on them..of course did 2 of the victorian santa's but they get delivered tomorrow..have a couple of candle snowmen and maybe 5 or 6 other pieces..and Liz, found 3 sets of geese and box to do fresh greenery arrangements..just have to finish the geese..they were already 3/4 finished so wouldn't take long to get them done...tomorrow, I'll do 2 sleighs, so will have them as well..

Know some lurkers will find it hard to believe but here's my next week's schedule...remember I'm up at 4:45am..leave for work at 7am..travel 100 miles each way for work..usually home by 6:30-7:00 pm barring any blizzards...
Monday get home at 7pm - do a few pieces
Tuesday..drop in Barrie get snowman mirror-do homework
(try to fit in Bingo and Dancing with the stars..)
Wednesday..get home at 7pm and teach a class..at least
until 10:30
Thursday..get home at 7pm and clean house..ready for
weekend
Friday afternoon..get off work at 1 - get home at 3..go to Suzanne and do (she'll help) flooring in a 9 x 12 room
Sat. be in Barrie for 9am for specialty class (mirror and snowmen piece) Sat. night - get all the pieces together
Sunday have a craft show...

Now if I read the above, I'd say that person is totally INSANE!!! and I agree...lol...

Looking forward to tomorrow as well..one more decision..you'll have to think if you want your santa in an evening scene or day scene..will make the difference what stages/areas are painted with deep blues...

Can't stop..if I do I'm a gonner..
Liz..here's all my pretty geese..know you've got yours traced...lol have to finish heads/eyes/wings and they are ready for planter boxes...

Doing my post and then it's off for a bath and early night..

Best of today...accomplished much, always a good feeling

Worse of today..no worse..just work/work/work in Santa's workshop

What did I learn today..picked some unopened pine cones so put them in microwave to open them up..usually do it in the oven then they turn bright red/maroon and the sap makes them shine, but tried to hurry..guess what a little miniature bug was still walking around on the plate holding all the pine cones..sooo bugs must be mega strong!!!

lol..night all..see you in the morning!

Glenview, IL

good golly! reading your schedual wore me out.
See you all in the A.M. whoohoo kids too.

...Having fun with kids.
.....there getting on my nerves..LOL
........have a load of fun and lots of laughter...turns out to be perfect!

Good Night.

Pacifica, CA

ok i have to get some rest i know im going to be tossing and turning went to orchard supply and got a small utility table it fits just right in the middle room now to fill the table and im ready, i think i might do a sunset like you mentioned.

oh betty have you seen the 3 geese xmas lights 39.99 had to have it!!

see you in the morning

Thumbnail by lizrainey
Victoria Harbour, ON

OMG Liz...where did you manage to pick them up...have NEVER seen anything like them..guess it wasn't at a Walmart of Home Depot..those are the two same stores that we have here...adorable...awww I want one 2...lol..

Well it's morning, crispy outside but no snow so that's a plus because later this aft. I have to meet my mom in Barrie (45 miles away) to deliver some Santa's then a trip to Michaels...oh forgot, did you buy them at Michaels maybe???

So will have my coffee, no sense trying to get rid of all of my sparkles in the craft room as I'll soon be using more but will make it presentable..go through all my Christmas goodies in hopes of finding some scarves for snowmen..if there wasn't so much wood around one of the knitting machines I'd knit some..knitting is quite easy because I can program the machine and it just click/click and more cliks all on its own..I know, I spoil myself..but I deserve it...right??? lol

Charged the batteries in my camera so let's hope I can take plenty of photos...here's one that I traded Ann for a Santa yesterday..full of gardening things and hand painted by her..it will be for girlfriend Dianne who loves gardening...

So be back a little later to join in with friends for a holiday craft..

I'm up and gathering goodies for our project.
Mine will be a wall plaque..I had a wood piece that is smaller than your sleigh pattern.. but it will work.

Liz your Crystal geese are very pretty. Do you decorate outside like you do for Halloween?
Betty that garden pot will make a great gift for your friend Diane. You sure are in full swing with your crafts.

Last year I took a tomato cage and wound garland around it and put white lights on it..an easy way to make a tree.
Could you tell me about what temp you put the pine cones in the oven to make them turn red and shiny? I have pine trees outside.

Standing by....I've been in the basement looking at all my decorations..getting in the mood.

Cheers,
Carol

morning carol,

not as much as halloween but it does get lite up lol
i like your decorations i tryied to make some grapevine balls got so discusted i think i did not have the right legnths to work with need to do somemore research

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Thanks Liz..I can't believe you are up so early..you are excited..LOL
I will look forward to seeing your geese all lit up.

I would think grapevine balls would be very hard to make. Hard to have the vine pliable enough to get them in a nice circle.

betty is late or maby she ran down to home depot lol

Hey you guys, it's not 9 am - lol..still 54 minutes to go...

But I've put all the snowflake decorations in living room and 2 bedrooms facing front, am putting up hooks in back bedroom and kitchen..went outside and decorated the deck christmas tree..put about 100 decorations on it..still more to do..thought I'd stop off today to buy materials for 3 tree skirts (because surely I have a few hours in the week to play)..I'm all set up, making another coffee..have my geese planter boxes all stained ready to put together, Ann brought me a lot of greenery to do my flowers arrangements for in the house, that's so relaxing that maybe tonight I'll sit and do the house ones if I can find nice fresh flowers...the greenery in the wet oasis lasts forever..I usually end up changing the actual flowers 2 or 3 times..bought battery operated lights for 2 of my arrangements..it's Christmas here in Betty's house...I'll post the 2 santa's I did yesterday...think I'm just a lady of leisure..NOT...just through loose flowers into santa bags as mom wants to decorate the 2 herself...easier for me to do her santa's because when she comes its always...how much longer..gee didn't think it would take this much time so, I do them for her...
Can you believe over the past few years I've done the Victorian Santa and guess who doesn't have one..decided that I will make myself one..put it outside near Christmas tree..Canadian Tire has vouchers for 3' imitation trees if you buy gas..thought I'd buy 2 today and lights as well because I have about 6 more plugs to that music system that's outside..just love that..wanted to turn it on today but I'll give them all another 2 weeks grace..then on with the lights flickering to the music...lol
have you seen those units..I'm sure you have Liz..they are on sale right now at walmart for $99.99-good buy..53 minutes to go..more to do..see you later...

Can you tell me where the star to my Christmas door wreath went..I took it off last year, put in a box and it's missing a star on it's glove..so, must cut another out..hope I can remember the color I used or I'll be making 2...lol

bett, im not on dial up but it is getting slow to get to the last post are you going to have a new site for the sleigh?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Welcome to I hope our 1st craft venture together..keep in mind that it's a fun day, it's the memories of sharing and not the actual piece..it will be a 'treasure' that over the years when you take out your Christmas decorations that you will remember us, your Dave Garden friends who have over this past year shared dreams, laughs,tears...each and every one of you have offered support, compasion with love in your hearts...regardless of the outcome of this project, what you will have gained is being in each others lives however far apart we are..

This being said, get comfy, make sure you are wearing glad rags, you've a coffee/tea in hand, I've made us muffins (can you smell them)..hmmm..they were made just for you...

Before we start we'll prepare our craft table ...

Do you have something old covering your work space?

You need 3 or 4 meat trays or paper plates or anything similar to put your paint on...

If you've a hairdryer, get it out...

I put my piece on something to raise it (I used kleenex box) but anything will do..makes it easier to do the edges...

Now, if doing 1 sleigh, I cut out about 8 pieces of your plastic wrap - maybe 2' long and set each one nearby..I usually put them on chairs, table etc. trick is...don't let them glue themselves together..lol..because they must be easily accessed...

Did you decide to wear gloves??? if so we're ready!!!!

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Ok..got my glad rags on..going to get the hairdryer and saranwrap now..LOL
sweet scentiment Betty..thanks..
