Thread getting mightly long again..thought I'd move us over...

Carol and Liz, you asked what the pink 'dap' was..any thoughts???

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Morning all. Was it just me or was the previous thread appearing in LARGE LETTERS? I thought I was reading the large print of Reader's Digest!

Kind of slow at work so far. Suppose to be a beautiful day here - up in the 70's which will just play havoc on my sinuses. Started a new "water-color" quilt last night that I had bought on eBay. It 's of hollyhocks and hummingbirds. I bought another one too of bluebirds around the bird bath. These are so easy to do!!!

I'll be checking in through out the day.

betty, i tryed to go back on posts to find the sleigh but i started to re read the posts now im late for work lol no i dont know what it is for?

jeannine the last ones were so beautiful i cant wait to see thease

have a good day liz

Victoria Harbour, ON

70's, nice day..is drizzling here in the city..saw that it was 52 degrees coming in this morning so that's pretty warm for us at this time of year...How long would it take Jeannine to do your quilt..is it lap size, wallhanging or suitable for bed...maybe this winter when painting slows down and gardening not yet at hand I'll get the one I did done and the cross stitch queen size mom gave me for my birthday quilted...how is the family taken to your working again, and still studying aren't you??? Murphy will be lonely...but, we all have to do what we have to do...

Have to go back and read threads, think Shar, Tangie and Liz all have mega quilts do they not..that might give me something to do this morning to keep myself awake..lol..

Dropped into Rona here in the city looking for 12" tomato cages, no go..not sure where to look for them at this time of year...

Glenview, IL

Good Morning

Was too lazy to make coffee...so Having my first cup now at work while I catch up to you early early risers.
..K.O...got all Santa's cut, will finish the remaining cuts on sleighs tonight. Paint them with the grey and make ready for the finishing...now I have been looking at decupoge! Will an 8 oz bottle be enough for 8?? And I see there is some stuff called hodge podge, there is one for puzzles and one that says all surfaces. I was thinking to get that as it is less for a jug. What do think?

Yay, liz you got your kit!! so are you done yet? hahha, OMG you and everyone, me too be careful with that saw, has quite the tork! I might have a lead on a tomato cage, yippee.

hey be back in a bit...work is calling.

Victoria Harbour, ON

8oz. should be fine Judy...as long as it has a notation on it that you can use on material and also NOT glossy..it will be fine...realize not everyone will be free at same time..so if you have all your homework done, supplies i.e. paints..then I'll do 1st of the workshops on Sunday morning..you tell me the time...it will probably take a little less than 2 hrs. remember, if you are doing more than 1, it will take same amount of time, because of drying time...NOTE: **** will not leave anyone in the lurch..if Sunday is not good for those of you who have your kits..let me know and another day just for 'you' because you are soooo special will be picked...lol

The pink 'dap' will be used just under your santa i.e. where you see him standing..looks like a snowbank..you will need a palette knife, or kitchen knife or plastic knife would probably work better..you will be adding little texture to actually hide the material seam...as it dries, it will turn 'white'....

Oh my gosh, Betty so sorry to hear about your Ornement. It is beautiful! You were just so excited about it.
...that exchange looks like it was fun, at least I had fun reading and seeing what everyone got. Your little sleigh is so cute and Liz's Mallard so pretty!
Thanks about the info on decupodge, think I'll not wonder from directions and get the 8oz. d. I'll be ready any time this weekend, Has everyone received their kits now??

Jeannine, how neat, your making another watercolor quilt! Both designs sounds so pretty.

Shar - hows the tree coming?

Victoria Harbour, ON

We'll set a time for your bunch and whoever else has time/homework done and supplies...what time would be good..would all those kiddies be up by 9am...don't want to take up all of your day....lol

(Cathy), MO

Do all of you know about the Messenger coop going on right now?

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/789271/

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Trop- This is the vine that I'm talking about: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/58078/ Is that what you have?

Jeannine- What is a watercolor quilt?

Going to spend sometime planting trees before the rain starts. Then of to run to the PO, Walgreens, library, etc. Maybe I'll stop by the dollar store too!

Have a good day all! Rachel

Victoria Harbour, ON

Afternoon Rachel and Cathy...will check both your sites...
Rachel..sounds like you've got quite a day planned..now will this be for Thanksgiving or Christmas shopping or just plain having fun shopping?

Cathy what is Messenger..is it a supplement for plants???something like miracle grow???

(Cathy), MO

Good morning everyone. Well, I think I survived moving weekend! I'm stiff and sore from head to toe, and lots of little stuff yet to be sorted and moved or pitched. This is my first day back to work. Until I get an extra line hooked up, I have limited use of computers at home, so maybe it'll be semi slow and I can catch up in here this morning!

Betty, please don't feel bad about the ornament. Those things happen sometimes despite everything we can do. And don't you dare not participate again because of it! I haven't been on DG but a few months, but can already see any forum you participate in takes on a positive, uplifting note. You add so much. Don't let a little thing like that discourage you.

(Cathy), MO

I didn't know what it was either Betty. But apparently lots of people on here use it. It's supposed to bolster a plants immune system naturally, if I understand it right..

(Cathy), MO

Here's the Chat link.

Thanks Cat, will have to look into it...So glad the big move is done. How exciting now you get to decorate...Hope your sore muscles subside quick...also on the fun side you asked about making ornaments before, so do you make them as well and what kind?

Betty, I will be up on Sunday...will work with kids throughout the day! (they get up at different times on weekends) Will let my friend know...
...on the side My vacation time HAS been approved woohoo.

On the bummer side, I think I've caught a cold!! all the sudden sniffly, headache
just plain tired...weird was perfectly fine this morning.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Judy, tell them Betty said "it's an ALL TOGETHER project" so up and at it...going to do roll call and they all had better be up and at it..tell them I'm calling to give directions..that will make them rise..lol...that's the pitz..a cold..surely coming down with something..could you possibly go home and rest before it gets full blown? how exciting about your vacation being approved..Paul took us all out for lunch yesterday and I was gabbing about Florida when he looked and said, 'now where are you going, when are you going' so SIL stepped in and said, Paul, she's been talking to us about it for the past 1/2 yr'...his daughter LeeAnn just came back to work today after being off 1 year so there will be plenty of staff if I take a few extra days more than they do at Christmas...sure hope nothing goes wrong..I'm really excited about meeting you all...think I'll be passing Susan (101) along my route..would be nice stopped for tea with her..will be a long drive on my own, but once I pass the winter hazard zones, I'm ok..don't want to say with new car there will be no breakdowns because that could be my 'famous last words'..lol..then, I start thinking, if I stayed home, I could get 2 1/2 weeks of just resting..

It will be a quick afternoon here as we've not yet had lunch..not sure where we are going but by the time we get back there will only be a few more hours..then, it's TEACHING TIME...they all arrive around 7 just about 10 minutes after me IF I'm lucky...

Cathy, we need picture of your new home...how much fun to move into something that you've renovated week by week..such a sense of accomplishment..cannot wait to see photo's..

Thought about it, won't get discouraged with regards to ornament exchange, was in another, will make sure what I ship is made of steel..if you can't beat them..join them..they want to be rough (post office handlers) then 'break this' lol..felt so bad for Jackieshar..but will send another ornament, feel it's a must...

What kind of work do you do Kathy...

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Wah hoooooooooo....
Look what my daughter brought me....I collect elephants and reindeer....thought the deer might be better for Christmas. Daisy is guarding him.

(Cathy), MO

I will take pictures. And when I get a minute I'll see if I can find the "before pictures.

I work for the gvt, keeping comuters & servers up and running.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

And the tree is still fine....no problem with either tree climbing cat!!!

Not finished yet, but almost ready for Ethan.

We have had lots of much needed rain yesterday and today....another wahooooooo!!! And we still have some amazing color for so late in the year.

With Ethan here I might not be able to join you in our project on Sunday, but I think I can do it on my own. I have so many projects in different levels of completion sometimes I think I will never finish....

Take care and have a good day.

(Cathy), MO

Sorry, I missed a question from Seedtosser. I have made ornaments etc in the past, but the last several years, have kind of gotten away from it. Seems like my time is so limited anymore I have to pick and choose what I do. Gotta slow things down somehow.

(Cathy), MO

Love the deer!

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Rachel, a watercolor "quilt" is actually a "picture" kit you make out of fabrics that looks like a watercolor painting. They are by Whims and are just beautiful.

The kit includes 2" x 2" fabric pieces in tons of prints and shades and the kit tells you where to put the light colors, medium, medium dark, etc. You place them on this fusing fabric (like interfacing) that is marked with 2" squares all over. It's kind of fun deciding which fabric looks best and where. Once you have all the pieces in place, you iron it so the pieces stay in place. then you take it and fold each row over and sew 1/4" seam. You do this all the way down and across. Once you are done, you have "picture" of 1 1/2" squares. Then you cut out the applique pieces they send you and fuse them on and wa-laa it's done for the most part. You need to sew a border on then quilt it.

Here's the 1st one I did. The picture doesn't do it justice. Next to it are pictures of the two new kits I bought. I'm doing the Hollyhock one now. I'll post a picture once I get the applique stuff on.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Shar..love the deer, wasn't that nice of her to get it for you..hasn't Jazz turned out to be such a loveable cat..not the kitten you saved months back.. going to do several workshops to meet the needs of everyones schedule, not to worry..should have thought about it, could have sent little reindeer and santa on cloth for Ethan to join you..he would have loved it..any christmas material really with a childs' pattern on it and any flat piece of wood..drilla hole and hang it..now wouldn't that be nice to make for 'daddy' for Christmas...suggestions/suggestions..lol.. we didn't get the colors that we normally do, guess it was the hotter than usual fall..but trees are now taking on more color..might be the cold nights..sprinkled here Shar..not sure we need it though but sure beats the snow...bet Daisy is eyeing the situation, trying to figure out how to get to the top..no angel this year..just a pretty cat..Ethan will be so excited to decorate the tree with you...will they be spending longer period of time for Thanksgiving...a few extra days would be lovely..

Jeannine..love the quilts..favorite like Shar would be the Hollyhock then the church..so pretty..you've made a great choice in colors...

Cathy, sounds as though you have a high-pressure job..bet you are on top of the world today realizing a dream..what an accomplishment...are you and DH both knowledgeable in respect to doing a lot of the work yourselves? That sure helps...being on my own I've learnt to drywall, mud, lay floors/paint, do woodworking lol..only thing I won't touch of course if hydro...that would be the end of me..my sons both warn me about that, always tell them I've lots/lots of accidental insurance not to worry!

Laura was thinking of you earlier 'sweetie' .. am sure we all have been..how are things going..(no hidding the truth)? You sometimes keep things from us when you should be sharring so we can send you hugs and prayers from this side of the ocean..glad DH is recovering..and don't you worry, with my not sleeping all night, I'll be up in order for you to get yours done...also, IF you ever get the package with the soldering iron I had included a santa head..so you'll have it there if not this year, next year to do another project...how are the grandkids..doing ok...you haven't posted photo's for awhile..please do..

Murmur..looking for you as well, need pictures of that beautiful child...come out/come out wherever you are....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Shar, going to check it out as well...you feeling ok...still haven't heard from you re medical results..we worry about you...A LOT!!! Haven't called in awhile but will do so shortly..know you've been busy, are in good hands so don't want to bother you but a call is coming...

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

My gosh! I've been on the phone most of the day ...and you guys have been busy

Rachel that is the same wire vine I have. It seems weird to transplant, but I plan on thinning some of it out in spring. Makes a great ground cover for difficult areas

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Hi, Betty....
Re: Medical reports.

Same old stuff.....the Nashville specialist was a neuro/orthopedic surgeon. My regular doctor wanted him to take a look at me and at my MRI films. I have a really bad lower back, in part from the polio when I was very young. Anyway, the specialist agreed to allow me to call my own shots for the time being...just as I have been doing for the past 4 or 5 years. No surgery, but regular steroid injections into the region of the herniatied disc, the stenosis, etc....it is not pretty, but I get around with no help, but I had reinjured it in April when Bob became so ill.

I refuse to take narcotic pain meds, so am often in a great deal of pain, however, I do know what to do to alleviate the pressure and discomfort, so I will keep on doing that. Mild exercise, and no lifting, being the most important. With back surgery in this particular instance, there is too great a risk of paralysis, and without it I can just keep plodding along. (until I no longer can plod.)

So my doctors are allowing me to choose my own path.
At least for the moment. So....that is my story. Now the stomach thing is entirely different. I have a quirky stomach to go with my quirky back, acid reflux, etc....but I am very careful about food, too.....Being mostly a vegetarian, I have to watch protein, but do have a medicine for the tummy, and I think it is working. No weight gain.....but no more loss, either.

That is much more than you ever wanted to know....Ha!!!

But thanks for asking and for caring. You are too busy to call right now...I am fine, really...and read your posts daily, just dont have much to contribute sometimes. but I am always here...so don't worry.
Hugs...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just a hi would do...just signing off .. classes tonight but will get on and respond to your post after everyone leaves...

(Cathy), MO

Stress, ain't it great!? LOL! Shar, do you think stress has anything to do with your stomach problems? It kills mine! I developed an ulcer 3-4 years ago and it flares up every now and then. Until my life settles down a bit, there really isn't much I can do though. Gotta work and pay those bills!

Betty, my son is the life saver. He's done a major part of the work on the house. I can do some things, paint, paper, insulate etc. I did the laminate flooring and that was a chore! I'll just be glad when the whole thing is done. We are downsizing in a major way and sorting all the stuff out is going to be awful.

Glenview, IL

LOL Betty will try but can't promise they will get up! Hope you have a great session tonight. Yep now that my vacations been approved I am really going to be getting excited here, funny about Pauls reaction...wonder sometimes if they ever are listening. Can't wait to meet you as well. If our weather stays this way your drive will be good! Hey what happen to your travel companion?

Shar-Beautiful Deer! glad the kitties are watching out for eachother. Yow Jazz sure looks really good, one would never know how she was when you rescued her...Didn't realize what you were going through on the health issues. I am really glad they are under control, if I understand correctly. We do care about you and love to hear when you want to chat about. Love to see all your art and hearing about Ethan too. We still have lots of leaves on our trees too, kind of scarey but could change at any time. today it dropped about 20 degrees in matter of 1 hour! Very Windy.

Jeannine, The water color quilts are so awsom! Very neat technique too.

Cat, I so hear you on the crafting. I have lots of things I want to do, no time to do it, but watch out if I start something, LOL nothing else will get done! I too have several going on right now, hopefully they all will get completed, They have to cuz they are gifts...well one thing at a time.

So, Gilli, was wondering if you can scan Sonora's art so we can have a peek at the prize winner!

Off to basement to cut out the last of the sleighs see you later.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Betty....got my sleigh package today....YAYYYYYYY. I am a happy lady.

Best....getting the package

Worst.....getting a velvet coat that I ordered and they sent the wrong size!!! I hate returning things!!!!!

What I learned....to be thankful for the much needed rain, even with all the dark clouds.

Have a good evening, my friends, I am going to find my nail scissors and start cutting out this Santa!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hello everyone, imagine, I'm still up and running..batteries haven't run out..lol...

Remember last Monday I came home sick, stayed home Tuesday and spent the day in Emerge..I looked as though I was 9 months pregnant with tripplets and along with it came severe abdominal pressure..

Anyway, today, again, Paul took us out for lunch, by the time I got home tonight I couldn't fit into any of my clothes again..then a light bulb went off...I ate last Monday at same restaurant, not same meal only thing I had that was the same was a glass of milk..now I put milk in coffee and cereal and it doesn't affect me..wonder if it's something in their food..just seems an odd co-incidence doesn't it..twice it happens, twice just after I eat in their restaurant...hopefully I can fit in clothes tomorrow..can just imagine wearing loose fitting clothing and everyone saying 'look at that old lady-she's pregnant'...lol

Well, classes just ended..Suzanne doing great job on Eagle..Rita finishing her standing snowman, Joan did one of the sleighs..and the other 3 finished their dimensional 3 piece flower art..thank goodness...Shauneen, well she is off in Florida...the others are hit and miss...so it's 10pm, I'm trying to decide, because we did some gold leafing and my fingers are covered in gold if I should take a bath..do so every night and morning..but wonder if the bath helps keep me awake...

Will post to all in the morning...Shar..really want to read your post carefully to fully understand what the doctor has given you as options...

Rest well all my friends..God willing, I'll be here to gab tomorrow...

Glenview, IL

Best...my friend in Rhode Island drove herself for the very first time!! So Proud of her accomplishment. Big smiles cause she is pleased as punch!!..MEEE Too.

Worst: this cold..dryvin me bonkr=ers.

learned: I really need to say good night.

Really hope you all had a great eve.

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Betty-
You might want to ask the restaurant if they use the preservative MSG in their food. It's used to keep the food looking fresh. It doesn't agree with me, and makes my tummy unhappy. Do you drink milk at other restaurants and at home? If so do you get the same effect?

I will attach a picture of the wire vine twining up a bottle tree. I am going for a similiar effect with my bottle tree.

Best- Got a free igloo cooler and animated/lit deer figure for outside (for the holidays) off of craigslist.com today, will post pics tomorrow.

Worst- Feeling sad for my BIL who is going through a tough breakup right now, they have been together for five years. Personally I think they will both be much happier when it is over, it's just so hard to watch the people that you love go through hard times and heartache.

What I learned- That canned spinach is not nearly as yummy as fresh or frozen spinach!

Rachel..love the bottle art...is the vine invasive..would it grow here in Canada .. might not like the cold winters..know I don't..lol...early morning...talk to you all when I get to the office....
